I want to make this clear because I don't think I conveyed my point properly here.
I don't think Gatrie "deserved" or is "owed" a girl to "get the ending he deserved". Its more that, from a writing perspective, I think it makes more sense for Gatrie to learn to not be as flirty and to grow as a character and that way he's not treated as second fiddle to Shinon in Radiant Dawn and can stand on his own as someone other than that one guy who flirts a lot. Moreover, I wanted to make it so that both Gatrie and Astrid are solutions to each others problems and character flaws. Thats why I thought Astrid would work as someone who could help Gatrie discover a better side of himself and Gatrie would help Astrid have more confidence in herself and her capabilities.
the whole astrid makalov thing could have been alright if it wasnt for the fact that makalov makes no effort to change. astrid deserves better than this.

Makalov isn't entirely irredeemable though. His death quote shows that he felt regret for being a bad brother to Marcia and the support with Astrid (if Marcia dies), Makalov was going to bring flowers to Marcia's grave since they were her favorite.

Honestly I dislike the majority of RD's paired endings but Astrid with Makalov is easily the worst in the entire game.

God I so fucking agree with you on this. Makalov isn't the single most worst character in all of FE (that's Peri), but damn does he come close and I just hate him so fucking much. Astrid and Gatrie deserved much better.
Seriously, you can pair Astrid with ANYONE other than Makalov in the party, and it would be better.
What bothers me the most about Astrid choosing Makalov is how it feels like she's taken two steps forward in character development since Path of Radiance, but suddenly three steps back.
Makalov is a sleazy bastard to the end. Nothing changes him for the better. And it just upsets me that a girl that wanted to get out of a bad marriage ended up choosing to go for a guy that's just as sleazy, only less sociopathic. Sure, yes, its better than Lekain, but both Lekain and Makalov are a minus regardless. You are not gaining anything good.
Axis it would be one thing if Astrid actually helped Makalov change for the better.
The sad part is that even Makalov himself is dumbfounded that Astrid fell for him.
RD is my favourite game and all but that pairing was just top cringe.

I doubt it. IS is, how should I say...stupid, STUPIDLY faithful to original sources when it comes to remake. I doubt they will give it a chance. I mean, the last they did, it flopped in the eyes of fanbase anyways.

FelicitytheHawk97 it's your opinion alright. They ruined Gaiden with SoV. I don't trust them a bit; the script writers at IS are very incompetent. Without a big change in the writing department, there's no hope for a good remake/game that values narrative as much as gameplay. Speaking of gameplay, I think they made it better and worse at the same time, but overall better. I don't enjoy it though.
I ship these two. but Makalov is pretty realistic. A very flawed man who gets himself in predicaments most of the time. Thats kinda why I like him so much. Also,he does care about people other than himself like Marcia. In his A support with Astrid,she gives him her pendant to sell it. When he realizes it was a memento, he gives it back and begs for forgiveness instead of selling it anyway despite its high value.
Makalov is without any other one of FE's best secondary characters.
But the average fan wants the spotless hero.

Makalov is a good written character... He seems to be created to be a extremely amoral goofy person that you would hate for being so dickish (something that even himself knows), or love him for being a character so different to any other one in the FE setting...
I think he does he's intented job perfectly.
So which one are you? I unironically enjoy his character quirks. He's more interesting than Gatrie since we've already had so many flirtatious characters in FE.

Hmm...Makalov...is not as bad a person as most people think he is. But Astrid is also a character that deserved better...cohesiveness with her character between games.
Her devotion, if shown to Gatrie, would still be SUPER CREEPY. I think it is more of a character flaw in Astrid rather than a bad pairing that makes Astrid and Makalov one of the weaker shippings in FE.
Well thats why I also wanted Gatrie to change and grow instead of being literally identical in RD and effectively just being an accessory to Shinon's smartass attitude.

Lol Joshua only really hit on Natasha and they were a nice balance to each other (Natasha too serious and Joshua not serious enough). His support with L'arachel nearly drives him insane by the end with her stupid divine luck and his support with Marisa never really seemed overly romantic if at all. Poor Gatrie though. Malalov's only paired ending should have been with a boot to the face.
That "fuck him" line instantly made me subscribe.

I gave these two an A support in PoR, They were both really good for me. Plus their support is great development for both of them.
Then Astrid decided "f*** it, i'm gonna go join the CRK and hook up with the very kind of person i ran from, plus forget all my level ups and give myself only a few chapters to catch up."
Ah well, at least Gatrie has Shinon, but the best general deserves better.

Now IS will say that Makalov will be added to FEH before Gatrie.

Elizabeth K Blanco I mean it most likely would happen, everyone with a "cannon" relationship mentions their partner in one way or another in FEH (unless your Eliwood and maybe Ninian and maybe some FE 4 characters, because I don't have them all) just look at VA Roy and Lilina, Sigurd and Dierdre, even Arvis/Alvis makes a point about it
Frankly, I don't mind characters who never develop (and it comes back to bite them), including Gatrie and Makalov. I also don't mind the portrayal of unhealthy relationships, since not everyone would end up like Marth and Caeda. I still really hate Astrid and Makalov's ending together. It drags down her character to the point of breaking suspension of disbelief. Makalov is disliked by virtually everyone in the army, even to the point where the people who love him (his sister) have their limits. Yet, Astrid is willing to overlook everything, for some reason.
While I do agree with the arguments for the ship and that it's legit much better than Astrid/Makalov, I don't really think Makalov is a bad character. I honestly believe that he's supposed to be written as unlikeable and pathetic, I think that's his charm. However I also feel it's part of the reason I really dislike his paired ending with Astrid, he's better off as a complete loser who just so happened to get roped in to something way bigger than he expected, I don't really think he deserves a romance or redemption like Radiant Dawn attempts. So in a roundabout way I pretty much agree Astrid deserved better, like with Gatrie. (It doesn't help that they both pretty much devolved into walking jokes in RD)

Brave Kid Keon Bennett Ike and Elinicia weren't canon in Path of Radiance either, in fact Ike says multiple times that he will leave when his contract ends. All of the teasing came really came from localization, in fact Ike outright rejects her in the JP version of PoR.

I agree with fuck makalov, but astrid marrying her is not completely out of her character, and honestly makes sense for her. In RD, she's found her strength, and because of this, she's able to choose who she loves. Although makalov is a unlikable douche, it just makes it better for her, as even with all that, she chooses and even defends him. Makalov is also someone addicted to gambling and alchohol, but this is what he wants, and he doesn't care about what other people think of him. I think it's understandable that astrid can look up to this sort of lifestyle, as from por to rd, she's been trying to find her will, she's still sheltered and naive.
tldr astrid deserved better but it's not entirely out of character for her to get with makalov

Idk I guess I'll be a dissengnting opinion here and say I think Astrid x Makalov is awful but makes sense if you read her support with sothe. She choose Makalov of her own free will I feel like a part of why she chose Makalov was because of how freely he goes through life which is something she desperately wants to herself.

It would have been okay if there was just a follow-up after there original supports in Radiant Dawn, but that would require RD being a competant game story and writing wise.

I always had a theory that Makalov slept with Astrid between games and he's actually really good in bed and that's why she defends him so thoroughly. Do I have anything that proves this? No, but it makes me angry so I have to try and find some amount of logic to it.

Twisted see you can ship Lyn x Hector all you want, but enjoying a pairing does not necessarily mean that it's well written. Lyn x Hector creates a lot of problems, especially in regards to how forced it is and how it RUINS Lyn's entire character arc
I go back and forth about Makalov, honestly. On one hand, he was written to be irredeemable, unlikable, ect, and that is unfortunately a realistic personality. I can respect that, even if I don’t like it. On the other hand, I’m a massive Astrid fanboy, and groan at literally every word that comes out of her mouth in RD that isn’t tower boss conversations. Either way, though, she absolutely does deserve better.
Still, the sheer amount of Makalov hate in these comments and the video itself has earned my sub, even if the channel isn’t active anymore. *I’ve finally found my people.*

Makalov is a great character. human unlike others who are only puppets. if he wants, he can also be heroic. And basically it is a good-hearted person. he also knows how to be loyal to those around him. (Marcia and Astrid)
Astrid ends up with Makalov because she's the kind of girl who likes to fix her partners. Also, Makalov has more late game potential than Gatrie.
I like to think Astrid dumps Makalov later and hooks up with Marcia.

Forget clown boy my gosh he always let me down when i needed him to do something anything hes trash level in character and gameplay and ive only played radient dawn gatrie on the other hand is my favorite knight in all fire emblem so far ive played radient dawn my first fire emblem dang that was some baptism by fire awakening all of fates and echoes so you know where my expirence is gatrie never ever let me down and he deserves a happy ending and so does astrid i used her on my last run through and while no shinon she is very string when trained well and i like her character defenately deserves better than that drunken clown loser who im better off not using at all he is yamcha of fire emblem
...Why not just keep Astrid single instead? I mean her overall goal IS basically her independence so putting her into a relationship with anyone mildly underscores it (at least that's how I interpreted it). Or maybe make Makalov a better character? IDK?
