As a season 10-11 Olaf main as soon as I saw the Q changes (especially mana) I knew top Olaf would be better. Since his LvL 1 attack speed is nerfed and he heals now from them his clear won’t be anywhere near effective. However what is any tank supposed to do when he hits Bork presses R perma slows you shreds 30% armor and you can’t CC him because once he’s on top of you his ult is indefinite. Olaf is turbo broken
You're forgetting that now his q completely resets as soon as you pick it up. That's going to make his clear insane, and there's no mana problems in the jungle.
You're missing the part where he get's his q refunded instead of reduced. If you have blue buff you can clear even faster now because before you had to wait at least like a second before you could throw it again. Now you can just spam it if you angle yourself correctly.

I feel like fimbulwinter can become a thing on Olaf, because you can spam Q with huge manapool and W shield scales with missing hp. Wouldn't be surprised to see something like -> Shieldbow, Navori, Fimbulwinter + zeal item and then like botrk. You can probably get W CD to 6s and with navori reduction, you can probably use it consistently every 3 secs, which will be honestly pretty strong. 250 base + 25% of missing HP (let's assume you have 3k max and you're at 1k) = +500, so that will be 750 shield every 3 secs + shield from fimbul + shieldbow. And you car run flash ghost in top, so you stick to people. Idk, seems crazy in my head.

@@Tynine If you're not using champions that have interactions, you're probably not giving yourself a winning chance vs many laners anyway. Darius, Jax, and especially picks that do not attempt to run into Morde's spells (i.e. Riven) will do extremely well into him. Fiora negates his R or negates the benefit of his R by outdamaging him in realm too. There's too much counterplay on the champ and it relies on knowing how to win lane, something most people should already be doing. Last resort, play Vayne top and learn how to kite. He literally can't play the game.
I actually rly like the second camera angle bottom right. Gives me something to look at since nothing else is really changing on the screen, and I like the zooms on chat when they're spamming noted again.

Swain got changed around, basically they took away his damage and gave him healing. On the other hand, they literally buffed every single thing that Olaf does. If they keep those numbers, Olaf will probably be an ultra broken top/jg champ
Olaf is going to be good top now. He is already oppressive early but his lane sustain is going to be alright now and he will stat check top laners. (also a good flex into jungle)
yeah I play the (current) Olaf top lane and it's really bad, Olaf is really really weak currently, super happy to see these new buffs, especially the shield and the R not losing the passive stats.

His level 1 is arguably up there, so he's NOT really bad. He's just incredibly cheesy. Your level 2 all-in, assuming you can hit axes, is good vs everything.

the new swain's E allows to pull ALL ennemies hit, where before you could only pull 1 either on ally cc or your E then it was going on CD. Seems way better to be able to grab a pack of 2/3 or more ennemies with a good E in term of playmaking and even for team synergy since while pulling out of ally's cc you would make them miss their followup 99% of the time, so its also making it easier to read for teammates. for the ult the dmg look pretty freaking high cant wait to see it in action and as you said if he will be able to hold his position while only realying on sustain and since liandry is so good on him no riftmaker heal, runepage switch for conq maybe? itemisation seems weird because go liandry hourglass = nice dmg but 0 hp, he also needs a lot of mana so maybe going archangel for the passiv healing scaling on AP (+ hp and AP stats), and going for riftmaker to get hp and sustain while not losing as much from not having mana as if you would go fimbul wich shield scale on mana (archangel only cdr scales on mana),so: Riftmaker archangel spirit visage thornmail and gargoyle with defensive boots and i guess you are pretty much a beast? could switch a slot for demonic if need more dmg
also you can pull someone without vision now, thats a huge buff as before I had to ward or use my W to be able to pull. That means more mana in your mana pool ;) and 1 more ward to be placed where it actually needs to be placed.
I don't see this olaf buff going though tbh, he is gaining steraks shield on a 5 second cooldown. But also a 3 second immunity to cc with force of nature and or deadman's plate. Then you end up perma reseting that ulti cd. And with thay attack speed and build ip tankiness even titanic hydra will be broken.

Hey, master mid swain guy here. I'll try and keep it short. All i wanted was for E to detonate on way out, because thats his most pressing issue when dealing with people jumping on you. As for this rework: -Q changes are great. -W, it's his only overpowered ability if used correctly, dont change it please. It's what gives him unique map agency. -E, how many times will you pull multiple? does it really make a difference if you just pull the one enemy that matters. for botlane: how will elec proc without E-passive-auto or E-passive-W? -R, I feel like it nerfed the damage. R2 change will take time to get used to. What's the difference between 12 seconds and infinite? It seems like they took out the hp stacking passive doubling when ult is up so in truth you get +2hp per stack in exchange for your flat bonus... i hope im wrong. Best buff was the cd, it's massive dont think it'll ever hit live. -Passive: no longer pulling is a nerf for sure, although sometimes you end up screwing your teammate with it since it has no prior indicator to happenning. as for the hp, please look previous paragraph. -Base ms still 325. As for itemization: I'm already building rylais 2nd into stoneplate since i think zhonya's is overrated with how much mobility there is. In conclusion Swain has 3 major problems: E is lacking for self peeling compared to other mages (try and hit a leblanc or katarina with it. Top lane Swain will stay dead in my eyes). There's no real go to rune on swain, I dont like elec since there are better champions if what you want is burst, Conq is my choice but mostly for pom and tenacity. Second tree there's a few choices, i usually take resolve, and i think i'll go with it even more now. Him being mana hungry means you opt for 3 choices: lyandri's and have damage but no hp or survivability, everfrost and it's the other way around and you'll find yourself eventually lacking damage later. Third would be to meme it and build tear into seraphs second, or crown lol. (and i said i'd try and keep it short haha) Would love yo hear your thoughts aswell, hope i helped.
I was under the impression that the pull will be shifted into E so it wouldnt count as a seperate ability. There's not much use arguing over this since time will tell.
Rioter said that MAYBE they have to adjust numbers after the release, so they plan on releasing this version and aren't even sure if he would be OP or even UP with that version.
They for sure have to nerf Olaf’s numbers. The missing hp shield adds a whole new dimension to Olaf, given he is at his strongest when low hp. Considering nothing else in his kit was nerfed to compensate, if anything rest of his kit got buffed, he is gonna be even more broken than Tahm Kench when he got reworked.

Hi, im a master swain otp. I peaked GM when i was building him as burst mage, ludens+liandries (pre mythic changes) and am the only one who does it. Atm, he has no real rune. The best probably is conq primarily because of PoM. I play him exclusively top which is a horror vs bruisers, you cant lane at all. And top of that, he lacks waveclear, high cd and mana cost and that ridiculus 325 ms. Thank god frozen heart is rather op i barely hit masters. This changes looks great esp the R. Tho the numbers i feel are ridiculously high. I wish i live in NA so i can test the changes myself. Sucks that u cant pull off ally cc anymore, but trading it for an aoe pull is worth imo.

You can now pull without vision aswell, as you only need to reactivate E. pulling on allied CC did more bad than good in late game since your allies will not account for your pull. I think this is a much healthier version of swain. I am otp swain top aswell
huuuuh... Ulti was really awkward to use at late stages - as yes it gives cleanse and short unstoppable status, but you lost so much def stats for it... And now you will be like - yeah i have big def... But also immune to cc... But also get damage, attack speed, vamp and shield... So what? executes would be must have... Like Garen's true damage execute with percentage scaling from missing hp...
If they want to make Swain a tanky boy with his r just give him Mr and armor while he has his r cause healing is massively reduce so better to have some Mr and armor imo

So it seems like Riot has utilized Zeri's Ult mechanic as a design philosophy going forward, which I kind of like within reason to be honest. For any existing ults that give massive steroids to a champion, they are making it such that so long as the player manages to stay in combat, it can stay up indefinitely until they exit combat. It plays well into the manner in which they want to play. Darius for example has a similar design philosophy for his passive. Regardless, since the sort of champions that would be utilizing this tend to be focused on sustain damage oriented (things like battle mages, juggernauts, etc), it plays into the existing manner in which they tend to operate, since these kinds of champions should want enemies to run into them, and due to their stat-checking, can fight their way out so long as they manage the damage they are taking. I'm assuming this tend started with more champions (mainly carry champions) getting resets off of kills either increasing duration or straight up resetting the ability(e.g. Vayne's updated Ult) So I'd imagine that for any underperforming champion subclasses with champions that have this issue of a time-gated steroid that is only situationally useful due to the way they play, they might add a similar mechanic. -Like imagine a change like this on Nasus where everytime he hits an enemy champion with Q or they are affected by Spirit Fire, his Ult get's extended -or when Warwick ults, he get's the maximum buff of Blood Trail's Attack Speed and Eternal Thirst's Onhit + Life Steal, and it will only stay up for every auto-attack or Q he does on champions currently giving off a blood trail (So he could cast W initially to start the chain effect, but if he chooses incorrectly it won't last very long) -or something like every tick of Shyvana's Burnout that hits an enemy champion extends the duration of her dragon form. I don't imagine that this design philosophy is going anywhere. Any new juggernaut to be released going forward will probably have something akin to this, as well as any champion with an ult steroid who, by nature should be wanting fights to be extended. Any currently underperforming champions with mechanics somewhat similar to this will probably get this treatment Like at the end of the day, you're still weak to the same things, but are a more meaningful threat to what you SHOULD BE GOOD AT ANSWERING (Hence why I love changes like this). You get railed by any amount of meaningful disengage and/or mobility that can control the pace of the fight without having to ever commit 100% like say Janna or Karma with poke champions. However, stat-checkers who do their due diligence in choosing their fights get rewarded for doing so, making it easier to balance since all you'd need to do is tweak the difficulty of keeping the steroid going whilst making minor adjustments to the steroids power where needed rather than needing to completely rework a champion to the degree of updates like Aatrox or Mordekaiser (Both of whom, I feel at least, seem a bit underwhelming). Not bad Riot...not bad at all.
Don't know if it matter but it's worth to point out that since olaf's heal is now his passive you won't be able to intentionally get low on him to get the most use out of his passive. This may affect his jungle clear speed.
LS missed why they removed the bonus health on his ultimate: it is actually compensated. Ultimate doubles bonuses from Soul Fragments and the health he gains from soul Fragments is buffed. So he is double dipping into the Soul Fragment health whenever his ult is going (and his ult should be going for a larger portion of the game now). He'd need 18 Soul Fragments to be better off in a Rank 1 ult and 40 to be better off in a Rank 3 ult. Depending on whether the new pull on E also provides a Soul Fragment or whether that part of the kit is lost I think those are numbers that can be hit. You probably have less health right at level 6, but at level 10 you should be better off, with a break even point somewhere in the middle. And then the same powercurve-smoothing happens between lvl 11 and 15. If his E reactivation doesn't give Soul Fragments I think his Passive will feel rather lackluster and you are probably not gonna hit the numbers necessary to be as tanky as before.
I really hope it still doubles. If so I totally agree with you, but if you look at the PBE description it no longer says it doubles health from Soul Fragments. Without the doubling, you still have a TINY increase in hp from 1the 5 > 12 buff, but that's mostly mitigated (or perhaps even entirely but I doubt it) by the greatly lessened number of Soul Fragments you'll end up receiving when losing the ability to pull a soul off ally CC. Your E pull does explicitly say it still gives soul fragments, but that's only for the enemies you hit with E.
Not only is shielding better than healing for Olaf w - it also unlocks taking shield bash as a rune which could be REALLY efficient navori olaf here I come

I expect Swain to itemize as such Everfrost > Merc/Ninja/CDR boots > Rylais > Demonic embrace (I think, the little shogun dude icon) > maybe get a tear earlier stack fimbul? Or go spirit Visage It looks like they're gearing him to be a good answer to assassins and other all in types of mages, where he just keeps sustaining, even through grievous wounds. If you hit that ult In 3 to 5 man fight around dragon, you're gonna be so damn unstoppable, especially since it'll keep going if you keep stacking it in the fight.

These people who said Olaf isn't going to be broken has no idea how stupid Olaf with enchanter actually is. One of the counter player to Olaf was to 1 shot him if he's underfed. Now he's much more tanky than before and with enchanter next to him especially someone with high speed boost (Karma, Lulu, Yuumi) make him a HUGE 1v9 threat. Imagine a champ that has 3k hp in mid game with 60 built in resist with 700 ms that can 1 anything mid / adc in few secs and CAN'T BE CC. If Olaf player is good there's no counterplay to that.
The issue with Swain before was he had high mana cost and his passive refunding mana per soul was to compensate. Without it, Swain can run out of mana after 2 rotations and was reliant on Presence of Mind and Mana flow band to off set it. The reduce mana cost alone for Q and W are enough to help but now with more health per soul and his E pulling every champion, his scaling is more consistent and his own CC is more reliable.
Ive been thinking about the relation between Renata and Olaf recently. Think about the Bailout on top of Ragnarok Olaf. Then add a supp mid = op as fuck.
I wonder if Swain might be the first non-mythic going champ after this rework. He gets so much from so many legendary items that skipping mythic might not be troll. Demonic, Abyssal, Rylai's, Seraphs basically doubling his ult's effectiveness, Cosmic Drive and frozen heart for the seraph's synergy + insane scaling with his passive hp all seem really, really good on Swain, to the point that I wonder if a mythic will even be better than any one of them. Like, your core is probably Rylai's and Demonic, and at that point, is Riftmaker ever doing any more than any of those other items? I suppose time and swain's damage will tell.
What he didn't mention was its now significantly harder to gain soul fragments. Following up on cc was where most swain soul fragments come from so its probably more net negative than ls thinks

The attack speed is level gated now, and q damage down early level, so he is not as weighted to early game. The W shield seems completely broken though.
As a swain main, I do think the main problem why drain tank swain is unpopular is swain basically relies on Liandry's, which gives zero HP, forcing swain to build Zhonya's for second item, which also gives 0 HP. Besides the drain rate is somehow too low as everyone ca reduce your healing. To me I actually think some of the drain rate on R should be transformed to movement speed (because of his demon wings) or some armour
As it is right now, Swain has no waveclear, his q costs too much mana for not enough damage, and he can only be played support effectively if you want an early kill lane lvl 2 or if your topside can carry and then you as swain are just a cc/slow with w and e in teamfights and in choke points
Speaking as a Quinn main the Olaf top matchup would be a lot like the Mundo matchup, if he hits you with q and then uses R he can just run you down and kill you over and over.
It’s interesting that limiting his immunity to 3 seconds but keeping the armor and MR part, I think it will be an amazing split pusher top with the self sustain plus shield plus armor pen, they buff 4 out of 5 oh his abilities, Swain got a big health gain per passive proc, but now it’s quite difficult to use it, you need to hit your w or e to get a soul and teammates can no longer help, definitely they don’t want it as support, but depending on the ultimate power level, I don’t think he will be a good solo laner either
I think LS didn't quite see that his early attack speed (and thus his early clear, if played correctly) is massively being hit. Before he could get almost 100 % attack speed at early levels and now its capped at 40%, also he can't decide when he heals and when he doesn't, which also affects experienced players. Can't quite tell yet how big of a deal this all is tho, gotta admit the later payoff might be worth it. Still the one thing why Olaf was still picked in pro now and then (recently hasn't tho afaik) was mostly his insane early clear speed.
Removing the pull from Swain's passive hurts him higher elo perhaps since its hard to root with the E as is. Maybe he'll just become an ult bot. But because he can't pull off of ally CC he might end up getting less souls

Its a very healthy change for Olaf players. Being able to Ult in every fight is a good feeling instead of the 'Cant be CC'd but lose armor and MR' tradeoff.
As a support Swain main, not sure how to feel about this yet. First impression I'm thinking this makes him more viable in mid lane, and less in bot lane. Not pleased with pull only working off his own E. Not pleased with losing HP gain on ult. Don't quite understand the ping thing for W. Don't really understand the numbers for ult drain heal. Kind of feel like I might have to switch to a tanky mythic item. For now I've stopped playing him so if all these changes go through, I won't mourn the champ I was most attuned to.

Swain got changed around, basically they took away his damage and gave him healing. On the other hand, they literally buffed every single thing that Olaf does. If they keep those numbers, Olaf will probably be an ultra broken top/jg champ
On the long run swain will suffer the same problems as before they have to just change his W into something useful like his old CC ability pre rework

Olaf is going to be good top now. He is already oppressive early but his lane sustain is going to be alright now and he will stat check top laners. (also a good flex into jungle)
yeah I play the (current) Olaf top lane and it's really bad, Olaf is really really weak currently, super happy to see these new buffs, especially the shield and the R not losing the passive stats.

His level 1 is arguably up there, so he's NOT really bad. He's just incredibly cheesy. Your level 2 all-in, assuming you can hit axes, is good vs everything.

At this stage of the game when items like Goredrinker combined with death dance is already broken. I don't see any reason why this kind of buff can go to the live server. If this kind of buff exists in PBE is not for a purpose of testing and remains unchanged on live servers, Riot's balance team should be dismissed.
the new swain's E allows to pull ALL ennemies hit, where before you could only pull 1 either on ally cc or your E then it was going on CD. Seems way better to be able to grab a pack of 2/3 or more ennemies with a good E in term of playmaking and even for team synergy since while pulling out of ally's cc you would make them miss their followup 99% of the time, so its also making it easier to read for teammates. for the ult the dmg look pretty freaking high cant wait to see it in action and as you said if he will be able to hold his position while only realying on sustain and since liandry is so good on him no riftmaker heal, runepage switch for conq maybe? itemisation seems weird because go liandry hourglass = nice dmg but 0 hp, he also needs a lot of mana so maybe going archangel for the passiv healing scaling on AP (+ hp and AP stats), and going for riftmaker to get hp and sustain while not losing as much from not having mana as if you would go fimbul wich shield scale on mana (archangel only cdr scales on mana),so: Riftmaker archangel spirit visage thornmail and gargoyle with defensive boots and i guess you are pretty much a beast? could switch a slot for demonic if need more dmg
also you can pull someone without vision now, thats a huge buff as before I had to ward or use my W to be able to pull. That means more mana in your mana pool ;) and 1 more ward to be placed where it actually needs to be placed.
I don't see this olaf buff going though tbh, he is gaining steraks shield on a 5 second cooldown.
But also a 3 second immunity to cc with force of nature and or deadman's plate. Then you end up perma reseting that ulti cd. And with thay attack speed and build ip tankiness even titanic hydra will be broken.

The logical response to a Zeri or Olaf or Swain being fully ramped is to try and disengage so the BS ends. I guess that's the gameplay they're trying to promote.

Hey, master mid swain guy here. I'll try and keep it short. All i wanted was for E to detonate on way out, because thats his most pressing issue when dealing with people jumping on you. As for this rework:
-Q changes are great.
-W, it's his only overpowered ability if used correctly, dont change it please. It's what gives him unique map agency.
-E, how many times will you pull multiple? does it really make a difference if you just pull the one enemy that matters. for botlane: how will elec proc without E-passive-auto or E-passive-W?
-R, I feel like it nerfed the damage. R2 change will take time to get used to. What's the difference between 12 seconds and infinite? It seems like they took out the hp stacking passive doubling when ult is up so in truth you get +2hp per stack in exchange for your flat bonus... i hope im wrong. Best buff was the cd, it's massive dont think it'll ever hit live.
-Passive: no longer pulling is a nerf for sure, although sometimes you end up screwing your teammate with it since it has no prior indicator to happenning. as for the hp, please look previous paragraph.
-Base ms still 325.
As for itemization: I'm already building rylais 2nd into stoneplate since i think zhonya's is overrated with how much mobility there is.
In conclusion Swain has 3 major problems: E is lacking for self peeling compared to other mages (try and hit a leblanc or katarina with it. Top lane Swain will stay dead in my eyes). There's no real go to rune on swain, I dont like elec since there are better champions if what you want is burst, Conq is my choice but mostly for pom and tenacity. Second tree there's a few choices, i usually take resolve, and i think i'll go with it even more now. Him being mana hungry means you opt for 3 choices: lyandri's and have damage but no hp or survivability, everfrost and it's the other way around and you'll find yourself eventually lacking damage later. Third would be to meme it and build tear into seraphs second, or crown lol.

They for sure have to nerf Olaf’s numbers. The missing hp shield adds a whole new dimension to Olaf, given he is at his strongest when low hp.
Considering nothing else in his kit was nerfed to compensate, if anything rest of his kit got buffed, he is gonna be even more broken than Tahm Kench when he got reworked.

Hi, im a master swain otp. I peaked GM when i was building him as burst mage, ludens+liandries (pre mythic changes) and am the only one who does it.
Atm, he has no real rune. The best probably is conq primarily because of PoM.
I play him exclusively top which is a horror vs bruisers, you cant lane at all. And top of that, he lacks waveclear, high cd and mana cost and that ridiculus 325 ms. Thank god frozen heart is rather op i barely hit masters.
This changes looks great esp the R. Tho the numbers i feel are ridiculously high. I wish i live in NA so i can test the changes myself.
Sucks that u cant pull off ally cc anymore, but trading it for an aoe pull is worth imo.

That might be 스크래치 (scratch). He plays top with ghost-flash and builds rocketbelt-liandrys. Sometimes he plays spellbook and grasp, that could be him i think.
You can now pull without vision aswell, as you only need to reactivate E. pulling on allied CC did more bad than good in late game since your allies will not account for your pull. I think this is a much healthier version of swain.

If they want to make Swain a tanky boy with his r just give him Mr and armor while he has his r cause healing is massively reduce so better to have some Mr and armor imo

it should be noted that Swain's "hook" where it no longer procs off of all cc it does now pull every enemy hit.
So it seems like Riot has utilized Zeri's Ult mechanic as a design philosophy going forward, which I kind of like within reason to be honest.
For any existing ults that give massive steroids to a champion, they are making it such that so long as the player manages to stay in combat, it can stay up indefinitely until they exit combat. It plays well into the manner in which they want to play. Darius for example has a similar design philosophy for his passive. Regardless, since the sort of champions that would be utilizing this tend to be focused on sustain damage oriented (things like battle mages, juggernauts, etc), it plays into the existing manner in which they tend to operate, since these kinds of champions should want enemies to run into them, and due to their stat-checking, can fight their way out so long as they manage the damage they are taking.
I'm assuming this tend started with more champions (mainly carry champions) getting resets off of kills either increasing duration or straight up resetting the ability(e.g. Vayne's updated Ult)
So I'd imagine that for any underperforming champion subclasses with champions that have this issue of a time-gated steroid that is only situationally useful due to the way they play, they might add a similar mechanic.
-Like imagine a change like this on Nasus where everytime he hits an enemy champion with Q or they are affected by Spirit Fire, his Ult get's extended
-or when Warwick ults, he get's the maximum buff of Blood Trail's Attack Speed and Eternal Thirst's Onhit + Life Steal, and it will only stay up for every auto-attack or Q he does on champions currently giving off a blood trail (So he could cast W initially to start the chain effect, but if he chooses incorrectly it won't last very long)
-or something like every tick of Shyvana's Burnout that hits an enemy champion extends the duration of her dragon form.
I don't imagine that this design philosophy is going anywhere. Any new juggernaut to be released going forward will probably have something akin to this, as well as any champion with an ult steroid who, by nature should be wanting fights to be extended. Any currently underperforming champions with mechanics somewhat similar to this will probably get this treatment
Like at the end of the day, you're still weak to the same things, but are a more meaningful threat to what you SHOULD BE GOOD AT ANSWERING (Hence why I love changes like this). You get railed by any amount of meaningful disengage and/or mobility that can control the pace of the fight without having to ever commit 100% like say Janna or Karma with poke champions. However, stat-checkers who do their due diligence in choosing their fights get rewarded for doing so, making it easier to balance since all you'd need to do is tweak the difficulty of keeping the steroid going whilst making minor adjustments to the steroids power where needed rather than needing to completely rework a champion to the degree of updates like Aatrox or Mordekaiser (Both of whom, I feel at least, seem a bit underwhelming).

Don't know if it matter but it's worth to point out that since olaf's heal is now his passive you won't be able to intentionally get low on him to get the most use out of his passive. This may affect his jungle clear speed.

LS missed why they removed the bonus health on his ultimate: it is actually compensated.
Ultimate doubles bonuses from Soul Fragments and the health he gains from soul Fragments is buffed. So he is double dipping into the Soul Fragment health whenever his ult is going (and his ult should be going for a larger portion of the game now).
He'd need 18 Soul Fragments to be better off in a Rank 1 ult and 40 to be better off in a Rank 3 ult. Depending on whether the new pull on E also provides a Soul Fragment or whether that part of the kit is lost I think those are numbers that can be hit.
You probably have less health right at level 6, but at level 10 you should be better off, with a break even point somewhere in the middle. And then the same powercurve-smoothing happens between lvl 11 and 15.
If his E reactivation doesn't give Soul Fragments I think his Passive will feel rather lackluster and you are probably not gonna hit the numbers necessary to be as tanky as before.
I really hope it still doubles. If so I totally agree with you, but if you look at the PBE description it no longer says it doubles health from Soul Fragments. Without the doubling, you still have a TINY increase in hp from 1the 5 > 12 buff, but that's mostly mitigated (or perhaps even entirely but I doubt it) by the greatly lessened number of Soul Fragments you'll end up receiving when losing the ability to pull a soul off ally CC. Your E pull does explicitly say it still gives soul fragments, but that's only for the enemies you hit with E.

Not only is shielding better than healing for Olaf w - it also unlocks taking shield bash as a rune which could be REALLY efficient

It looks like they're gearing him to be a good answer to assassins and other all in types of mages, where he just keeps sustaining, even through grievous wounds. If you hit that ult In 3 to 5 man fight around dragon, you're gonna be so damn unstoppable, especially since it'll keep going if you keep stacking it in the fight.

These people who said Olaf isn't going to be broken has no idea how stupid Olaf with enchanter actually is. One of the counter player to Olaf was to 1 shot him if he's underfed. Now he's much more tanky than before and with enchanter next to him especially someone with high speed boost (Karma, Lulu, Yuumi) make him a HUGE 1v9 threat. Imagine a champ that has 3k hp in mid game with 60 built in resist with 700 ms that can 1 anything mid / adc in few secs and CAN'T BE CC. If Olaf player is good there's no counterplay to that.

The issue with Swain before was he had high mana cost and his passive refunding mana per soul was to compensate. Without it, Swain can run out of mana after 2 rotations and was reliant on Presence of Mind and Mana flow band to off set it. The reduce mana cost alone for Q and W are enough to help but now with more health per soul and his E pulling every champion, his scaling is more consistent and his own CC is more reliable.
Does this mean that Serpent's Fang will be a staple against Olaf comps?

I wonder if Swain might be the first non-mythic going champ after this rework. He gets so much from so many legendary items that skipping mythic might not be troll. Demonic, Abyssal, Rylai's, Seraphs basically doubling his ult's effectiveness, Cosmic Drive and frozen heart for the seraph's synergy + insane scaling with his passive hp all seem really, really good on Swain, to the point that I wonder if a mythic will even be better than any one of them. Like, your core is probably Rylai's and Demonic, and at that point, is Riftmaker ever doing any more than any of those other items? I suppose time and swain's damage will tell.

What he didn't mention was its now significantly harder to gain soul fragments. Following up on cc was where most swain soul fragments come from so its probably more net negative than ls thinks
The stacking of Swain passive's isn't as important as Sion one for example

The attack speed is level gated now, and q damage down early level, so he is not as weighted to early game.
The W shield seems completely broken though.
The q spam is still strong early game most, keeping the mr and armor after R is huge plus he also have a huge shield is broken

As a swain main, I do think the main problem why drain tank swain is unpopular is swain basically relies on Liandry's, which gives zero HP, forcing swain to build Zhonya's for second item, which also gives 0 HP. Besides the drain rate is somehow too low as everyone ca reduce your healing. To me I actually think some of the drain rate on R should be transformed to movement speed (because of his demon wings) or some armour
As a resolve tree support swain player, the changes are a bit favorable on how i build him
As it is right now, Swain has no waveclear, his q costs too much mana for not enough damage, and he can only be played support effectively if you want an early kill lane lvl 2 or if your topside can carry and then you as swain are just a cc/slow with w and e in teamfights and in choke points

Speaking as a Quinn main the Olaf top matchup would be a lot like the Mundo matchup, if he hits you with q and then uses R he can just run you down and kill you over and over.
It’s interesting that limiting his immunity to 3 seconds but keeping the armor and MR part, I think it will be an amazing split pusher top with the self sustain plus shield plus armor pen, they buff 4 out of 5 oh his abilities, Swain got a big health gain per passive proc, but now it’s quite difficult to use it, you need to hit your w or e to get a soul and teammates can no longer help, definitely they don’t want it as support, but depending on the ultimate power level, I don’t think he will be a good solo laner either

I think LS didn't quite see that his early attack speed (and thus his early clear, if played correctly) is massively being hit. Before he could get almost 100 % attack speed at early levels and now its capped at 40%, also he can't decide when he heals and when he doesn't, which also affects experienced players. Can't quite tell yet how big of a deal this all is tho, gotta admit the later payoff might be worth it. Still the one thing why Olaf was still picked in pro now and then (recently hasn't tho afaik) was mostly his insane early clear speed.
Removing the pull from Swain's passive hurts him higher elo perhaps since its hard to root with the E as is. Maybe he'll just become an ult bot. But because he can't pull off of ally CC he might end up getting less souls

Olaf not lossing the passive resists on ragnarok has to be a mistake, I can't see how a 120 resists 2,5k health 250 ad unCCable running at ppl and be balanced
Its a very healthy change for Olaf players. Being able to Ult in every fight is a good feeling instead of the 'Cant be CC'd but lose armor and MR' tradeoff.

As a support Swain main, not sure how to feel about this yet. First impression I'm thinking this makes him more viable in mid lane, and less in bot lane. Not pleased with pull only working off his own E. Not pleased with losing HP gain on ult. Don't quite understand the ping thing for W. Don't really understand the numbers for ult drain heal. Kind of feel like I might have to switch to a tanky mythic item. For now I've stopped playing him so if all these changes go through, I won't mourn the champ I was most attuned to.
W ping is just so your teammates know if you're in range to put a slow or help

@@sevenofquills well pretty usefull, other than that yeah I think swain supp is getting killed but I always felt bad that a commander, that is describe as a Leader is just a bland support, being on a solo lane feels nice
