Our mission is to encourage, empower, and inspire people to live a life that Blesses God, in accordance with His word. As the Psalmist proclaims, "Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, O you who are of Israel's fountain" (Psalm 68:26 ESV), and "Every day will I bless Thee; and I will praise Thy name forever and ever" (Psalm 145:2 KJV). Just as Simeon, after encountering Jesus, "took him up in his arms and blessed God" (Luke 2:28 ESV), we seek to lead others in a life of stewardship, relevant engagement, and practical living that honors and blesses the Lord.

Lavital law made it obvious that slavery was for paying off debts, was temporary, and if you CHOSE to stay as a slave you were to be treated well and with the utmost respect as a fellow Israelite. The new testament was so against it because Roman slavery was nothing like biblical slavery. It makes sence that the abolition of slavery was promoted by Christians.

@@omnikevlar2338 The verses which caused Christians to condemn slavery aren't always ones which have the word 'slave' in them, which is one reason why people sometimes miss them. One of the most important ones is in Genesis where ALL humans are made in God's image, putting us all on equal footing right from the start.
Also, Paul includes slave trading among some of his lists of sins, which indicates that forcing another human being into a live of opression is wrong by God's standards. So I get how only reading verses with the word 'slave' in them could lead you to the conclusion that the Bible is more for than against slavery, but it's not like anti-slavery sentiment is totally absent.

Even in the ancient world when nobody could grasp the idea of a society functioning without slaves, Christians made efforts to free people from slavery, despite not expecting to abolish the industry. They'd go to slave markets, buy as many slaves as possible, and give them their freedom. Augustine and his church raided slave ships numerous times.
Another fun detail which wasn't explicitly mentioned in this video is that as after anti-slavery sentiments in the early church matured into abolitionist propositions, the Catholic empire actually managed to basically eradicate slavery for a while in the Middle Ages before the conquest of the Americas, when it started up again because human beings are jerks.

One of the key things God told the Children of Israel immediately after leaving Egypt in the book of Exodus said was, "You shall not oppress a sojourner. They removed the exodus, arguably the most important book of the Old testament and removed revelation, one of the most important books of the new testament. The standard kjv has about 1200 chapters in it, the slave bible has under 300. If you have to remove that much of the book to be pro-slavery, id say the book overall does not aupport slavery.

What version of Leviticus are you reading? Chapter 25 verses 44 through 56 make it very clear “As for the male and female slaves whom you may have, it is from the nations around you that you may acquire male and female slaves. You may also acquire them from among the aliens residing with you and from their families who are with you who have been born in your land; they may be your property. You may keep them as a possession for your children after you, for them to inherit as property. These you may treat as slaves, but as for your fellow Israelites, no one shall rule over the other with harshness.” There’s also a long history of Christians promoting slavery and owning slaves. Sure you can use parts of the Bible to argue for either side, but that’s more of a problem for Biblical consistency than for the people pointing out it’s issues.

"Christianity was like a depth charge."
Nope. Humanism was like a depth charge. Chattel slavery was perpetuated for more than a thousand years by Christians. It was only after the advent of Humanism the slavery was abolished, and Christians had to borrow from Humanism in order to oppose slavery.

How much more clear can it get? There is no commandment that says “Thou shalt not own another human being as property”. Owning a slave is not a sin. Exodus 21 tells you where to buy slaves, how long you can keep them for, how you can treat them, etc. Anybody who tries to twist the meaning of this knows it is immoral to own slaves and wants to falsely defend the Bible. For example, there is absolutely no mention of the words “indentured servitude” in the Bible, but apologist will swear that is what it means. In any case, that is STILL owning another human being as property. It doesn’t matter if they were treated nice or were let go after some years…slavery is slavery no matter how much you try to sugarcoat it. The laws governing non-Hebrew slaves were more harsh than those governing Hebrew slaves: non-Hebrew slaves could be owned permanently, and bequeathed to the owner's children, whereas Hebrew slaves were treated as servants, and were released after six years of service or the occurrence of a jubilee year. If slavery were ever re-instituted and you yourself were likely to to be enslaved, would you then consider slavery wrong? If the answer is yes, then slavery is wrong. There are some moral absolutes that transcend religion.

Kind of funny that those who get outraged like this don't truly understand how actually evil the ancient world was. Not only this, but the same people who don't understand the evils of the ancient world also don't understand the difference in types of laws given in the Old Testament meaning, most of the laws in the Old Testament were case laws and ceremonial laws, not actual commands for the Isrealites to implement. There's a difference in giving laws that govern current behavior and laws that are meant to change behavior.

I went and found the verse I was talking about in replying to your other comment elsewhere in this section. 1 Timothy 1:8-11 Paul is talking about how God's law is intended to condemn people who rebel against God, and he launches into a list of examples of such people, one of which is slave traders. My interpretation is that that's Paul listing slavery as a sin.
In 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 while Paul is making a point that your Earthly status doesn't affect your status in the Kingdom of God and most people should retain their existing culture or social status, he throws in an aside that slaves should gain their freedom if they can. In other words, even though being enslaved doesn't diminish their value in God's eyes, it's certainly not a state Paul wants them to stay in.
There are also arguments that Philemon is basically Paul nullifying a slave contract.
Also I'm not sure if this point came across in the video, but I think the reason why the NT writers never called the church to abolish slavery was because they lived in a society where ordinary citizens didn't have that kind of social reforming power. I think buying and freeing slaves from markets in large numbers and raiding slave ships were the best they could do at the time (which they did). The call to politically abolish the institution on a large scale only came up once Christianity started to have political power.

@antonioperez4091 Diogenes Laertius, Dio Chrysostom, and In "The Republic" Plato makes an argument that slavery is unjust. My contention isn't that slavery hasn't always existed as it still does, but that only secular laws have made it illegal and that while for thousands of years it was accepted, it was accepted on very dubious excuses and justified so people could feel OK about themselves. Just as Christian apologists do today to justify the clearly immoral teachings and instructions of their god.
