I completely agree with everything that you are saying. As someone with Aspergers Syndrome, I have a few emotional support and comfort dolls, such as my main set of Storm Twins. I love talking to them, dressing them up, or holding them in my arms when I'm sad. They can always make me smile and make me feel intensely happy in a way that I can't explain. They feel like friends to me, and I even consider them my personal doll daughters. I literally take them everywhere with me, and I have a special tote bag that I carry them in when I go out in public. I feel happy being mainly an OOTB collector, and I'm happy to know that there is no shame in it.🖤💜
I thought I was weird experiencing the sensation of wanting to take one with me out- I didn’t even play with dolls as a kid but recently got into them. 🥹🥲 I’m glad I’m not alone.
I totally agree with you my friend!!! 👏👏 I have to have all my Barbies unboxed and displayed on shelves like they’re living in a tiny village right before me. I have a hard time keeping an unboxed doll behind a glass curio cabinet even!!
Thank you so much for sharing information and your opinions! I also prefer getting dolls out of the boxes. But i still have some inbox, because some boxes have backgrounds or decorations that i like. I'm worried about storing all my dolls properly, and still learning. On topic of unboxed dolls - it really helps me to connect with the doll, to create story and character for her. 2024 is my year for unboxing (we are on the same page here). "Not collecting for a future customer". What a freeing statement !! Thank you. I admit, I still had some sense of guilt about reducing the value. Not anymore ! Thank you my friend !!!
Well my experience is that I wasted decades stressing about to unbox or not and the dolls in boxes for 20 plus years are worth less now than when I bought them a lot of the time and aren’t worth much more with a box so just enjoy your collection for you ❤️❤️❤️
I collect some vintage doll's of the '70's and '80's like the Mego celebrity doll's like Farrah Fawcett and others and I have seen that some of these doll's that were kept in box for 40 or 50 years have melted shoulder and hip joints to where the doll's arm or arms are separating from the torso and the melting at their hip joints has plastic melt stains on their outfits ruining the outfit. Doll's can sometimes degrade and the plastics and vinyls or if they have rubber limbs can break down and deteriorate over time since the doll is aging and due to the acid in the colored cardboard inside their boxes can damage them over time. The inside of their boxes is twice as hot as outside their boxes so they have to be stored in a cool room away from a window since heat and humidity can damage them also. There is no point in leaving a doll in the box for many years then it just degrades over time then you never get any use out of it and you may have to just throw it in the garbage. Doll's and toys are made to be opened and used or played with as they are not really a future investment. Some doll's do still hold up well when kept inside their boxes for many years but not most of them. You can keep doll's boxed for about 10 to 15 years and they will be fine but after 20 or more years they may get damaged that way. They need to breathe and get air circulation to stay in mint condition.
@@darklight4251 gosh I have no idea. The fake leather material disintegrates also out of box. And also where the dolls in boxes are stored. A loft or basement will make the damage worse. Yes, it is better to take them out but when the space issue happens (it is inevitable!) some have to be stored. It is a problem.
I had a Barbie kept in-box who actually developed mold from humidity. I had to get her out and wash her and her clothing. And her pleather purse disintegrated.

I agree with you. I have my Mermaze mermaid dolls in box due to fear. One of them hair came out in clumps. I so scared her hair and the others hair will repeat. Maybe I need to work through it and unbox them. Lovely video you such a sweet soul.
I think it is Riviera having hair falling out but not the others from what I have heard. I have bought Riviera in a carboot. My mom and my sister are really sour towards me and long story short I don’t have any toys from childhood. I didn’t keep dolls back then- I let my sister have them as soon as they were gifted to me. She liked them better. My bf just got me my first doll not long ago- he’s been kind of spoiling me actually. It’s so healing. I remember childhood so vividly and honestly feel a bit stunted- not so much by anything that happened but more so by the things that didn’t.
Amanda my first video on here was called dolls and toxic family! I absolutely get where you are at and honestly I struggled to buy myself a single thing 10 years ago. I am totally no contact with my mother and sister who did so much damage it would make a book! So I hear you and just wish I could give you a great big hug. But your dolls will do that snd every one you collect will be whispering how amazing and worth it you are! I wish you nothing but absolute joy with your collecting. Oh and chosen family is a real thing lovely. 🥰 ❤️❤️❤️
Your room is LOVELY! I always want to unbox for all the reasons you have elaborated but if I think they may dramatically appreciate in value I leave them in box. If I can afford it I sometimes get two but, of course, space is always a consideration too.
Maureen I realised with my Barbie’s that often it’s the ones you don’t think will increase in value that do…. As nobody collects them and they become rarer
I have an inbox Jade but my unboxed Jade has a very special story and she became the Queen of the dolls in my collection. My glitter girl Nixie is a very special doll and we are never apart. I buy her clothes and bought her a pony and a donut cart. My beanie boo I renamed Bzzzzz helps me accomplish my financial goals 😂 for real. So unboxing is opening a world of magic and relationships.❤❤
After listening to your side advice Candy, I have at last, let Mr Sulu out of his box, his soul is set free at last. Have fear of the yang energy, through trauma, I know he will help, he feels so gentle, protective and even supportive. Thank You this video was the encouragement I needed. ❤❤
That’s ok I read it as “sound” do you know I often think auto correct has magic in it. Sometimes the words it changes it to for me is so telling of secret messages. Im so glad you have freed mr sulu and I love what you are using him for …. For healing. My doll shelf with the couples on is for similar. Thank you so much h for watching and commenting it made me so happy to read ❤️❤️❤️
I love my dolls out of the box. I've never been a in box collector. I found the boxes also take up too much space, even as a kid. I thought, why buy a doll if you gonna keep the doll in the box. You made some great points
I had wizard of Oz Barbie dolls when I was a little girl and I played with them all the time. The wizard of Oz is my favorite movie ever and the tinman is my favorite which is why my RUclips channel is called tinmanlover
I have an I Love Lucy doll I got when I was a kid, did everything in my power to keep her in her box until just recently. Her box survived a lot to the point of damage, so she had been stored in my closet for a while. Then about a week ago I realized that I'd be able to appreciate her more out of her box. New subscriber. Thank you for your content :)
I've always taken my doll out of box. From watching toy story movies seeing that Jessie doesn't like being in a box and in storage And being in the dark. Alot of my dolls are in storage but I have opened a lot of my dolls manly American Girl dolls and I've been collecting Monster High dolls since Gen 3 their in their box because I'm not able to put them on display or play with them right now and I had rainbow high dolls and I opened them put them on display and I let my oldest niece who was really little play with them. I Started collecting fashion dolls as a collector and when monster high Came back with G3 I always connected with monster high since the beginning with G1 with the message of monster high it really reignited with me and when I watched the live action movie I felt the same way I felt when I heard invisible by my favorite singer for the first time. I knew I belonged in the monster world with monster high.
So many people I think can’t see past value accumulation though I know that’s what my dad always viewed the collection as but you’ve got to enjoy it for you ❤️❤️
I can't understand inbox collecting, unless you plan to sell soon. I've seen stories of damage in box, like mold, and the doll would have faired better if she was taken out. They need air. I don't understand how you can truly enjoy a doll inbox. No disrespect to those that are inbox collectors, I just can't do it.
I always loved them inbox so much but didn’t realise just how much MORE I would be connected once I unboxed. Now I couldn’t go back. But unboxing was terrifying for me ❤️
I love when you pan the camera around the shelves, you have such a neat collection! It's cool how it encompasses several decades. Kind of a pop culture snapshot of time. Does that make sense?
Number 1 reason I unbox my dolls: I’m going to die one day, I’m not gonna keep them in a box so when I die someone else can open them and enjoy them. They’re mine, I’m going to take them out of their box and enjoy them.
I just started feeling that way too but i do have a couple of Granddaughters that like dolls so i am going to keep a few in box for them to open but Candy has me seeing the light. I have started unboxing. I am 63 so i might as well enjoy them before i go 🙏🙏 Many Blessings🥰🥰❤❤
Great video 👏! I loved all your reasonings for taking your dolls out of the box 👍 I am an out of box collector too so it didn't take a lot to convince me but those weren't all true reasons 😎 I only have3 dolls in box that I never wanted to take out but now I'm really convinced to do so including the Rainbow high doll Lily that is invisible in her box & her box is huge 🤓
Ooo you will love it when you can actually see her. I think invisible dolls are the saddest ❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much for watching and joining in the conversation
Wow Candy! This video was a big hit! It took me awhile getting through all the comments lol. I have mainly been storing in box or buying two or buying used because i have a real hard time unboxing them because they look so pretty but you have a lot of valid points so today i unboxed Jade and Sunny and Luna Madison. I had a little anxiety but was quite happy after i held them in my hand. I am going to keep a few inbox for my Granddaughters but i think i will be unboxing many more when i get back home. I hope you are feeling well. Much love and many Blessings and thanks for the Great video ❤❤🙏🙏🤗🤗🥰🥰
i keept a doll doll on box for years, finally i opened it and what i saw? a huge bug egg on her hair and it was veeery sticky, how long or how it got there? i do not know, what i do know now i prefer them out of box
I don’t like to unbox my toys in particular but I started doing it with the newer non vintage ones to save space. I collect My Little Pony. Scented ponies have a tendency to discolor due to the chemicals in the scents, so it is best to have them unboxed in a ventilated area. The newer Basic Fun scented re- releases have the same issue so I had to unbox them when I learned about the problem. I felt a little sad because the packaging was so pretty but it was satisfying to take them out and smooth out their hair. Something to consider if the doll is scented. I have some boxed vintage Barbies I’m on the fence about unboxing
I get the reluctance or unsure ness about unboxing. I haven’t got to my collector ones so much yet that are going to feel like a big thing to unbox. I started off with easier ones. I think I just want to know they have air around them now after all these years. Thank you so much for watching and joining in the conversation ❤️❤️
My childhood American Girl dolls hair ties detraired over Time and when I brushed their hair the hair ties detraired and I tossed them out and got new hair ties that are goody Brand which is better. I have Alot of my American girl doll collection Are in storage and I need to check on them because Kailey and Nellie doll's vinyl skin can turn orange it's a factory defect of the time. I pray my dolls aren't orange because Kailey was my first doll and Nellie was my 3rd doll.
I like to keep the expensive ones boxed. I’m not much for playing or taking them out, so my dolls are a fun thing I do, and something I own that is of increasing value. I like that. Also, my doll hating daughter can sell them when I croak. 😄 To each their own👍
Totally all as valid points as the ones I made too. Honestly I love that you shared this as everybody has a different relationship with their doll collection. Thank you for watching and commenting ❤️❤️
Thank you for this eloquent and well thought out video essay. I am am out of box collector. for me, there is no reason to have a doll if I can't touch her, redress her, do her hair or make new clothes for her
I don't like to unbox dolls, not at all. I prefer to buy them second hand already out of box. It saves me the hassle. I like to handle my dolls and take pictures of their gorgeous faces so of course to keep them in box is not a good option. They come to life out of box and some of them look so much more fabulous out. I love to redress my thrifted dolls. It is great fun and I admit I have a soft spot for my thrifted girls. I really love Jade's boots. The problem is that despite her gorgeous black lipstick, I don't need another Jade and she is a lot above my price range limit! My rules have to be respected lol 😁 I bought Tropical Splash Barbie in the UK in Woolworth. She was called Tropical Splash.
I was so sad to here a relative tell her daughter she shouldn't take her new doll (gift) out of the box because it would be worth more. Poor girl! Dolls are generally made to be played with. 😢
The only dolls I have in boxes are the ones that I have that are doubles and I am selling them. All my collection, I don't have every doll nor do I want every one, is on display.
I have been trying to figure out why I strongly hesitate to open some of my dolls. As a child I had lots of toys and great memories of them. Some I still have and some I have found. But being an actual doll collector is relatively new and of course the dolls are new and more current. I have been watching videos of thrifted dolls and some pretty sad lost looking dolls some of them are. They look how I feel. Even now. If they were inbox they never would be like that. If they never left their safety, the world wouldnt treat them like that possibly. The world wouldnt be able to hurt them. The box is kind of like the arms of a mum who loves them. Without that where would they end up? Without their mum who are they really? Without my mother who went to work 8 years ago and never came home my heart goes to the lost and forgotten dolls in the pile. I never want my dolls to be treated like that. And so I hestitate, to protect them, the dolls, in case I dont come home.
Ooo you made a grown women cry with this one. First of all I want to give you the biggest hug ever! And I hear you I really do I think it’s why I always love the underdog because I know how alone and torn apart life can make you. Having been bought to my knees myself by my own mother’s cruelty I hear you! But I also want you to know from my liver experience I’ve discovered that our “safe boxes” after trauma which we rightly create when we know we cannot cope with one more thing in life, they do often turn into prisons further down the line that can cause as much damage eventually as the original trauma itself. The damage just creeps in in a different way. I think healing looks like opening the box trusting that if life plays up again there’s always a doll lover just round the corner to come spread love again. And the realisation that you are that doll lover too is a beautiful thing too. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

👏🏻Thoughtful video!!!!!! At first, it sounds like you’re talking about online dating and long distance “relationships”, lol!!! Uh-uh, not interested/not applicable. No thanks and never again. *runs away fast!!*😆 ……though I’ve become a stronger person because of my Angelic Soulmate. THE BEST!🥰🪽 I think much of it depends on the doll line, to be honest, and yes, I do see your smart points! Some vintage doll lines, as with my favorite Hasbro JEM, for example, have the coolest, most vivid box graphics you’ll ever see. The sensory experience is turned up to 11, at first sight! The windows show most of the doll to feast one’s eyes upon! My favorites are NRFB, albeit with shelf-ware, but because JEM is a fashion rocker line, I have multiples to display some of the “rad” and more glamorous ‘80s fashions. Rubber hair ties go either way. Think of stringed dolls, for example, where they’ve got rubber band strings holding their dolly parts together. Over time, a restringing is needed. Some dolly accessories degrade over long stretches, box or no box, I found, and despite careful everything. Why, only yesterday, I picked up a dolly with my hands - it was one of two Brooke Shields dolls!! - to reposition her, and guess what, both legs fell off! *scratches & shakes head*🫤😐 P.S. Your shelves are sweet as can be!🥰 P.P.S. I won’t be buying a replacement / other doll.

I remember childhood so vividly and honestly feel a bit stunted- not so much by anything that happened but more so by the things that didn’t.
I struggle with treating myself. 🥹 this is a really helpful video. Thank you!
@@tinysoulwhispers4011 I am so glad you are my family Candy 🍬 🍬 🤗🤗
Mandy this comment is so beautiful ❤️

After listening to your side advice Candy, I have at last, let Mr Sulu out of his box, his soul is set free at last. Have fear of the yang energy, through trauma, I know he will help, he feels so gentle, protective and even supportive. Thank You this video was the encouragement I needed. ❤❤
Sound advice,The auto correct has changed the word again.
Thank you Dexster ❤️❤️
I had wizard of Oz Barbie dolls when I was a little girl and I played with them all the time. The wizard of Oz is my favorite movie ever and the tinman is my favorite which is why my RUclips channel is called tinmanlover
That’s amazing ❤️
I have an I Love Lucy doll I got when I was a kid, did everything in my power to keep her in her box until just recently. Her box survived a lot to the point of damage, so she had been stored in my closet for a while. Then about a week ago I realized that I'd be able to appreciate her more out of her box.
New subscriber. Thank you for your content :)
Aww I’m so glad you freed her. And thank you for subscribing it’s so appreciated ❤️❤️
This was wonderful ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Patricia ❤️❤️
Isn’t monster high just Amazing ❤️
I just started collecting dolls last year and my son tells me to leave in box. I hate that!!! I buy used dolls so I can enjoy them out of box.
But unboxing was terrifying for me ❤️
I personally keep my dolls in the box just because I find the boxes works of art themselves and I love to display them just as much as the dolls!
A very compelling reason, yes I love that ❤️
Such a lovely, thought-provoking, insightful video. Thank you 💜
You're so welcome! Thank you liz that’s so kind of you ❤️
I love when you pan the camera around the shelves, you have such a neat collection! It's cool how it encompasses several decades. Kind of a pop culture snapshot of time. Does that make sense?
Totally I feel sometimes it’s a timeline of my life ❤️
Number 1 reason I unbox my dolls: I’m going to die one day, I’m not gonna keep them in a box so when I die someone else can open them and enjoy them. They’re mine, I’m going to take them out of their box and enjoy them.
Best reason and biggest reason of all ❤️
I just started feeling that way too but i do have a couple of Granddaughters that like dolls so i am going to keep a few in box for them to open but Candy has me seeing the light.
Aww sunshine dawn I’m so glad you freed some of the girls. Much love ❤️

i keept a doll doll on box for years, finally i opened it and what i saw? a huge bug egg on her hair and it was veeery sticky, how long or how it got there? i do not know, what i do know now i prefer them out of box
Eeek! Yep! I mean bugs can get on them out of box too but at least you can see it and sort it when they are out. That’s horrifying ❤️
I hope they are fine it is sad to think of our dolls declining with age isn’t it ❤️
I hope they are fine ❤❤
I like to keep the expensive ones boxed. I’m not much for playing or taking them out, so my dolls are a fun thing I do, and something I own that is of increasing value. I like that. Also, my doll hating daughter can sell them when I croak. 😄 To each their own👍
Totally all as valid points as the ones I made too. Honestly I love that you shared this as everybody has a different relationship with their doll collection. Thank you for watching and commenting ❤️❤️
Thank You for sharing 🌷
You are so welcome ❤️
Thank you for this eloquent and well thought out video essay. I am am out of box collector. for me, there is no reason to have a doll if I can't touch her, redress her, do her hair or make new clothes for her
Aww thank you so much I appreciate that ❤️
Un-box 💯❤ for me.
Mags what dolls do you collect? I’d love to know ❤️
@@tinysoulwhispers4011 I have a miniscule collection compared to you. 💓But I'd love to collect more Rainbow High and Barbie for sure.
My rules have to be respected lol 😁
I bought Tropical Splash Barbie in the UK in Woolworth. She was called Tropical Splash.
Yes that’s something about second hand dolls there’s also no pressure about to unbox or not.
I was so sad to here a relative tell her daughter she shouldn't take her new doll (gift) out of the box because it would be worth more. Poor girl! Dolls are generally made to be played with. 😢
I agree so much. ❤️
Okay you scared me to open my stuff 😅
Oh no sorry I didn’t mean to scare you into it ❤️
@@tinysoulwhispers4011 now I can stars to collect for myself 😊
you are good vibes
Thank you ☺️
The only dolls I have in boxes are the ones that I have that are doubles and I am selling them. All my collection, I don't have every doll nor do I want every one, is on display.
That’s amazing. I love you have them out of box ❤️
@@tinysoulwhispers4011 there is one song that sums up how I feel abt my mother. It's bette midlers song from Beaches. My mother had a challenging life too and this song means everything. ❤

Oh no to the legs falling off and great points for a different view of unboxing or not . Loved this ❤️
