Just love it. The two of you look like you had so much fun doing this. The warmth of your friendship, filled with laughter and music...what more do you need? Thanks for sharing w/us Matt. You make a great J!
For the reasons you said, this will go down as one of my all time favorite videos from anyone from all time. A metamorphosis takes place in Alfie - - goes into character before I had a chance to prepare for it and all in a kitchen . Matt Lucas always is so good himself and so appreciates Alfie's talent - very sweet. These two are great together.
That was quite nicely done. Matt, underneath all that goof is a fine, fine voice. Alfie, when get into character, you get into character. F'got you were in a kitchen! Well done, gents.
"before you say another word Javer-" "alright" "before you chain up like a slave again" "oh yeah" "listen to me, there is something I must do" "he's here again with the excuses, c'mon let's have it."
I love Matt's little comments during Alfie's first words...hahaha. Years ago, I saw a production of one of Gilbert and Sullivans works and they had changed the wording a little bit to reflect what was going on in our politics. It was hilarious! the audience loved it.
I adore the both of you. You both are funny, down to earth, entertaining. Not many like you two left in this world. Hearts of gold it seems. May the Lord Bless all of your endeavors. : )- From a fan, talent admirer
Alfie and Matt are so much fun together, and both are ridiculously talented. What I want to know is WHY there's no soundtrack/cast recording of Les Mis with Alfie and the 25th Anniversary cast? Why cast such an outstanding singer and then not release a soundtrack?
...and as for awards, Alfie has a Tony, too, British theater awards and a slew of awards for European and UK opera. Alfie also does albums. In the past 3 yrs, 3 are Top Ten, two went platinum, and previous ones hit the top ten in the UK Classical charts. So...
Alfie wasn't cast because he is TOO GOOD. If you watch the movie, it's more about realism, not necessarily perfect singing. If he was cast he would have outshined the rest of the cast for sure - especially Russell Crowe.
Matt Lucas would be the funniest Javert ever, he's a great Thernardier though really great, Alfie is my favorite Val Jean. "Three days he'll run to Belgium by then!"
@JoJoBee19 I feel exactly the same way. It's very puzzling and sad. I just got an email from Boston Opera House because the touring company of "Les Mis" is coming to Boston, and on home page of 'Les Mis' website is text of CM raving about HJ and RC being "born" to do those roles: how awful! (I like them both as actors, but for me Alfie is THE Valjean for the 21st century.)
Matt! Daaaannng. :) I knew you were a great comic actor/singer but you're just plain good (and we won't talk about the other guy, you know he's pretty good ^_^) Seriously. That was a terrific little performance right there. Nice to hear you showing off your voice a bit, because it's also great to listen to!
Alfie Boe could sing me the alphabet and i would melt.........Cant wait to see him in 2 weeks time in concert (front row seats!!).......may be tempted to get on the stage with him........watch out youtube!! .
I am shocked to hear Matt's voice in this. He has a powerful instrument there that he is really learning how to unlock! Well done Matt! Oh, and Alfie was pretty good too.... :)
Our School is putting on Les Mis in March down in Devonshire, don't worry we're not all country bumpkins, I was really looking forward to doing Confrontation with my Valjean counterpart, until we saw that it was cut for the school version, sad times :(.
That's such... you think Alfie walked onto the stage Oct 3, 2010 and sang Les Mis for the 1st time? He rehearsed for over 6 mos, and did the show in the Queen's Theatre for 2 wks. Then sang 2 full shows in one day. And if Alfie can sing the 25th, concerts, etc, without blowing a sound system, I'm sure the movie sound techs could cope. Alfie has incredible dynamic control (soft-loud-soft), much better than Jackman.
Yeah he played against Alfie. There is another video that Matt put up while he was playing Thénardier and Hadley was in it and that was put up the same time as when Alfie played Jean Valjean
I too have seen many productions of Les Mis, with many different takes on the characters. Matt's Thenardier is epic. I am sure he would shine in any part, but how could you top his Thenardier?
i completely agree, jackman has appeared not only on tv and fims but in the theatre and has won at least 3 awards for theartre. alfie although amazing in musical theartre has never had to spend months filming and prepping for a role, so i feel that out of the two for the role of JVJ that Jackman is the better choice for the movie, also i think that alfie's voice would be too powerful for the microphones that will be needed to capture the songs
Cameron Macintosh screwed Matt Lucas and Alfie Boe inorder for "bigger" hollywood names. That should not even matter, true fans of the show (which is many) would be MORE inclined to see it if Matt Lucas and Alfie Boe were cast, not some other "celebrities" I dont even know if ill see the movie now, since their not in it. THESE two actors have actually done the role hundreds of times. They've put their heart and soul into this show and role. Matt Lucas IS Thenardier Alfie Boe IS Jean Valjean
Shivers at 2:26 when Alfie belts out my favourite line of the song!!!! 😍😍😍
Just love it. The two of you look like you had so much fun doing this. The warmth of your friendship, filled with laughter and music...what more do you need? Thanks for sharing w/us Matt. You make a great J!

Very impressed with Matt's voice, he can hold his own! However, I just love Alfie's voice x
Alfie's pouring his heart out and I'm over here watching Matt have a ball with what should be a serious song, haha. These two together are hilarious.
so as soon as alfie hit that first note... i got goose bumps... that voice man oh man
Alfie's awesome. He can laugh at Matt's jokes, but still is able to stay in character. Awesome
That was quite nicely done.
Matt, underneath all that goof is a fine, fine voice. Alfie, when get into character, you get into character. F'got you were in a kitchen!
Well done, gents.
Alfie is absolutely Phenominal, onstage and off! That man has the vocal chords of God.
wow...Alfie certainly can belt out a song, then, can't he???? Love this man--voice, personality, genuine human being it seems!
I love you Matt! Ha Ha! amazing voice, along with an awesome sense of humor! ;D
"before you say another word Javer-"
"alright"
"before you chain up like a slave again"
"oh yeah"
"listen to me, there is something I must do"
"he's here again with the excuses, c'mon let's have it."
you two are unstoppable.
That was fun to watch....I really like Alfie's face without his beard
alfie is a true profesional for staying in char with matt pissing about
These videos are the highlights of my day. Thanks for posting them.
I LOVE these videos Matt & Alfie do - so funny and adorable together!! NOBODY sings better than Alfie Boe!!! :o)
Matthew is the cutest! But Alfie, oh my, he is fantastic.
Love watching Alfie's stomach before he sings! Good diaphragm breathing!
You guys together are hilarious and both so talented in your own rights. You really do bring out the best in each other. Fantastic!
I just discovered this today. Spectacular. I have chills up and down by spine. You both are so good, too good if that is possible.
Fabulous, Matt really does have a good singing voice, what a duo! XX
Omgosh, Alfie does it effortlessly! Goodness! Gets right in character the moment its his turn!
I love Matt's little comments during Alfie's first words...hahaha. Years ago, I saw a production of one of Gilbert and Sullivans works and they had changed the wording a little bit to reflect what was going on in our politics. It was hilarious! the audience loved it.
Well don, boys. That scene is by far one of the most powerful of the story and Matt did a surprisingly good rendition of Javert.
What was awesome was how Alfie went into total character of Val-jean in Matt's Kitchen. He really is amazing.
Matt you did good...Alfie brilliant as always
I adore the both of you. You both are funny, down to earth, entertaining. Not many like you two left in this world. Hearts of gold it seems. May the Lord Bless all of your endeavors. : )- From a fan, talent admirer
Matt Lucas is a better javert than Crowe.
It hurts me that is so true😂
I specifically looked this up and I am SOOOO happy I found it's still up. I love you both! Wish I get the chance like that one day.

These videos of you two are just amazing! Wish you'd do more next time you get together!
Best giggle on the face of the earth. ("oh wait, it's the wrong song!"..."giggle")
fair play matt's not bad could easily step into the role of javert! even just having a sing song in his mates kitchen Alfie sounds f'n awesome.
I am in love with Alfie...
These two are hilarious together!! More duets please!
Sorry, but I couldn't stop laughing. Mr. Lucas, you are hilarious.
Matt... you knocked this out of the park dude...
Alfie wasn't cast because he is TOO GOOD. If you watch the movie, it's more about realism, not necessarily perfect singing. If he was cast he would have outshined the rest of the cast for sure - especially Russell Crowe.
It amazes me how much Matt's improved. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in more roles hopefully
Both talented singers, fantastic duo :)
Until I watched Les Mis I had no idea that Matt Lucas could sing, it actual amazed me how good he is
LOL Matt is great as J! Love Matt and Alfie!
excellent.just recently watched the doc about you preparing for les mis.You did a great job of Thenardier
Matt Lucas is brlliant in this, compliments Alfie's voice fantastically...
Matt Lucas would be the funniest Javert ever, he's a great Thernardier though really great, Alfie is my favorite Val Jean. "Three days he'll run to Belgium by then!"
Jealous LOLi would love a chance to sing with Alfie, i think he has an amazing voice
I love how Alfie does a accented crescendo at around 2:27--so dramatic and musically intricate. :)
They are wonderful!!!!! ¡uf!, I love them!
Gave me the shivers. Well done lads.
Thanks, Matt - what a treat! Wish I could see you two live in London. My O2 video (and these kitchen warbles) will have to suffice .
@JoJoBee19 I feel exactly the same way. It's very puzzling and sad. Can't stop laughing and I've seen this so many times omg..hahaha. But I didn't know Hadley was playing Javert!!
I agree. He did exceptionally well for not being trained! And Jonas was trained... not sure what his excuse is.
A comic version of the 'Confrontation'. These two should have their own show.
they have very lucky neighbours...
Matt! Daaaannng. :) I knew you were a great comic actor/singer but you're just plain good (and we won't talk about the other guy, you know he's pretty good ^_^) Seriously. That was a terrific little performance right there. Nice to hear you showing off your voice a bit, because it's also great to listen to!
have no words, this is amazing. Matt you're awesome
Matt Lucas is an amazing singer! But you can definitely tell who's the professional ;) x
That was absolutely amazing lads! Very well done! I had to listen to it twice to listen to each part properly. Can't beat a good counterpoint eh? x
OH god, Matt would make the FUNNIEST Javert!! I adore these two :) My personal favorite Thenardier and Valjean
Matt's really good too at this song!! :D
"What must be DooooN" love it Alfie!
Yes, yes, yes - I love this!!!!!!! More, guys!!!
That was amazing!!! And they were talking about Hadley :D!!!!!!!!!
God look at the muscles on Alfie *dies*
@Pepoland9 Welcome to the BOE Craze! The kitchen ones are awesome, but my personal favorite is when he sings 'In My Daughter's Eyes'
one of the best things i've watched in ages!
I would like to see them do it more than I want to see the actual movie. Both of them should have been in the movie!
*applauds* I really wanted to clap for that.
Our School is putting on Les Mis in March down in Devonshire, don't worry we're not all country bumpkins, I was really looking forward to doing Confrontation with my Valjean counterpart, until we saw that it was cut for the school version, sad times :(.

Funny, I can *ACTUALLY* picture Matt as Javert! XD
they r so much fun together!
I
OHH I love this!!!
I too have seen many productions of Les Mis, with many different takes on the characters. Matt's Thenardier is epic. I am sure he would shine in any part, but how could you top his Thenardier?
by ARSE that Lucas has a good voice!
So wonderful
I'd rather watch this over and over again than the actual Les Mis movie
i completely agree, jackman has appeared not only on tv and fims but in the theatre and has won at least 3 awards for theartre. alfie although amazing in musical theartre has never had to spend months filming and prepping for a role, so i feel that out of the two for the role of JVJ that Jackman is the better choice for the movie, also i think that alfie's voice would be too powerful for the microphones that will be needed to capture the songs
Good God he looked pissed when he said "i'm warning you javert!" whoa...
Love it!!! Got the feeling Matt is channelling Norm Lewis - intonations are the same... but great video guys!!
and that, as they say, is the TRUTH!
Both are a crack up
this is fucking fantastic
Love it lov it love it
@JoJoBee19 "Jackman can sing a little". He's been singing professionally on stage for longer than you've known he exists.
Brilliant.
@JoJoBee19 haha thats funny hugh jackman just moved in to my street. is he doing the movie of les mis ?
Cameron Macintosh screwed Matt Lucas and Alfie Boe inorder for "bigger" hollywood names.

lol "three days, you could run to Belgium by then."
'Well, he's good'. 'Pathetic' !
They really should do a tour together, they are so good together chalk and cheese, but brilliantly funny. How about it guys?
