This is the reason why we love Android. Also the fact that this video is 10 years old and still amazing to see.
Just showed this to my wife and she walked away saying great! Now the lights and the kettle are going to talk back to me! I LOVE THIS
Man, you are brilliant! I have found my focus and knowledge to be a bit lacking when trying to set up commands on tasker in the past, but you have re-inspired me. This is so amazingly cool! Thanks for sharing. Peace :-)
The secure settings plugin is what did it! Thanks again for the motivation!
Isn't it easier and faster to do it by yourself? Im just so greatful that when I grew up in 90's, there were no cell phones, no internet, life was so easy and simple.
I just sent my whole Android entourage to watch this video ;) Great job!
Man thats just awesome! Gotta study all that stuff as well, going to have this too :)
Awesome work. I can't wait for a Tasker interface for Google Glass, that will be AWESOME!
Awesome dude....Can't wait to mimic this setup ASAP!!!
Now its up to you to take this guy's help and create a tutorial Armando... I soo love Android :)
Awesome video Dough Gregory... simply Awesome!
Brilliant! Whilst the voice recognition makes for a cool vid, the real beauty of Android Tasker is doing this stuff without even touching the phone! Like automatically switching on lights if I get home after sunset, or switching on the underfloor heating 30mins before whatever my alarm is set to, but only if it's cold enough to need it. Beat that, Apple.
This is truly exciting! Nothing I want more than the setup you have here! Excellent job! Hopefully we can see how this works soon! If you could reach out to me, that would be incredible! Thanks for sharing!
Wow, thats fantastic!!! I will definitively intergrate some of that cool things in my house. Everyone in my house is using Android devices from smartphones and tables to android tv boxes and chromecast, so it should intergrate well.
SO AWESOME! I need this for all of my listings!!!
Love the portal sounding power down clip :p
Makes sense...While automation is possible using Android, this does not exactly conform to the definition of automation. Glad you ended the debate though, that went on far too long lol. I still enjoyed the video. Can't wait to implement this. =)
You sir are indeed the master of your domain!
Only with Android... now thats power in your hand! am using Nexus 4 too! would love to try all this!
That is awesome! I would love to have that setup!
This is exactly why I prefer android over iOS. Great job. PLEASE for the good of man kind make a tutorial for us.
great job just when I thought I was done I learn something new
Entire house needs this
Thank you for your insightful contribution
To you thinking this is fake, I can reassure you this is NOT fake! I have my Xperia Z setup with AutoVoice and Tasker and it is KING! Every time I hit the voice button and say my phones name "she" responds and I can give her a command! One thing to note though is that it will only respond to the commands you set up, it doesn't automate everything from scratch! Tasker is THE best app you can have on your phone, its worth it's weight in gold! =D
How does this only have 300 views..sharing this awesome video.
Yes, we need a tutorial. I want this thing for my home, too. This is the future.
Incredible,,,blown away
This is simply awesome! You are the boss!
I have got to get one of those!!! Awesome
Well done! You, sir, are the winner of the internet today!
Was it just me or he turned the lights on and off and on a lot? Moderately impressed.
Far ahead of your time you were. Don't tell Jeff Bezos. He'll probably hire you.
that was just AWESOME!!!
Suuuper mindblowing!!
This is incredible. Wow!
This + Google Glass = Awesomeness!
This is too fucking good. I mean, i knew it was possible and all, but i didn't know it was possible to integrate with Google now. Real sweet work!
This is awesome!! I want this.
FUTURE!!! Im gonna love this decade aren't I
Teach me !!!
I'm in love with this house !
I just love technology, real cool stuff
One can do this with an Apple device. All you need is the right set up. As for Android, you are only limited to what you can do with Android. The possibilities are endless. All it takes is the right imagination with such an open OS.
Yeah, those with no tech knowledge would call it fake. Those in the know, know this is pure tech savvy!
It' s not about Android. It' s about electronics. I believe that creating the App was the easy part of all this stuf. I think that the difficult part is how to connect all these power enabled devices in one receiver and how this works. The android app just sends the commands to this receiver. This is the trivial. I would like to see an article on how this can be done. Good job and good luck with you career Doug Gregory!
Great job on this.
This is so AWESOME!
I made a write up about your demo on the Land of Technology site :)
Subscribed, I want to see more!!
MY MIND has been BLOWN
Amazing! You are a genius!
Doug, I think you forgot to credit Assistant Event for Tasker in your software list. Awesome demo!
He is using a plugin called Secure Settings. The paid version allow us to use the Google Now swiping for Tasker's task etc.
Notice the icon when he swipes. It is the logo of Secure Settings.
0:35 "now light it up" *house burns down
Incredible work man. You've inspired me to start my own project like this. It's not nearly as advanced yet, but hopefully someday...
That's pretty amazing!
Totally awesome!!!
I need this in my life.
Awesome job! :)) Never thought this was possible with Android until i saw this vid. Could you make some tutorials and stuff?
That is really cool!
the Portal voice of SHuting down is the best:))
You should make a tutorial. Awesome job.
Andriod is our future, is it part of virtual realty. Realy unique.
"Shutting Down!" LOVE IT!
I NEED a tutorial. GREAT video.
Yeah. That's the beauty of technology today. You just made Back to the Future and almost every other futuristic movie feasibly come true. Now get in your automated, flying car and get outta here! ;-)
Dude your my new hero
0:47
Him: Im home!
Robot voice: So?
Doug, I really appreciate your stuff. Is there a video on tutorial instead of a demo. Keep up the work, You have opened a can of worms and I'm looking to overhaul my home now making it more techkie after seeing some of your videos. I went out and purchased a Vera Lite and a bunch of outlets, dimmers, etc... I'm a hybrid between Droid and IOs. Is there another resource you know that works with IOs devices?
Again, I really appreciate your stuff...
That's awesome, now you need to develop it for Google glass
Nice setup
Dude this is simply amazing!!! Take that apple!! XD this brilliant now a how to step by step video because I want this
Thanks captain!
Need one at home.. awsum!
Bua! Omg! Brutal!
you make my day :D
Try the Autovoice app for Tasker, it's like Google voice search, it recognizes what you say and does stuff based on the context.
I'm going to leave it at this,WOW!
Nice Portal "Shutdown" refrence.
This is quite awesome! You have inspired me to do something similar with my lighting. I am curious how you were able to use tasker to change the google now up swype. That is the final piece remaining for my puzzle.
You are awesome.
Quite simple really.
It looks like he already has one of these installed:
micasaverde[d0t][c0m]
And a GoogleTV. Both systems have API's and he uses and Andriod application called Tasker along with AutoVoice and AutoRemote plugins.
A benefit to this would be it would force people to enunciate properly out of frustration if it doesn't understand you.
Is there some sort of way that you could hook up external microphones all around the house so that way you could just speak to your system from anywhere in the house, hands-free, by a simple "ok google"? i.e. (walks toward bedroom)...."ok google, goodnight"..... and everything thing shuts off in the house. ...??? Is this possible?
I know this comment is really old, but I think it is possible. If you set up a main system, say an old computer running linux or raspberry pi, write some app to that can access all of the items you wish, like the tv, lights, ect. (not sure if anything like that already exists and can be downloaded) and combine with some speech to text program. then somehow setup the microphones around the house. Im not sure how the actual listening part would work though, would it be always listening for your commands? that would require it to always be running the speech to text program constantly analyzing all sounds, or maybe make it to constantly analyze only when you want it to, for example when you home.. activate it by telling your phone "im home" and deactivating it when you say "im out". Im sure it is possible, I dont know how exactly, but this is just my idea on how it would work
Random question, what are those things on the wall? Sound absorbers? They look very nice not some cheap foam kind stuff.
Awesome demo. Inspiring me to wire up my place similarly.
Can you link to the components you used? (I've already got Tasker, XMBC, Yatse, etc.)
That's fly will do this for my home office
This is awesome
Now there's "Ok Google" everywhere which makes it a hell lot easier!
really awesome
Simply awesome, top that apple
Very impressive
Tutorial, please! Nothing fancy, just take us on a short tour of the hardware (close-ups where necessary) and the software (mostly, the setup you went through, and any fine-tuning, trial-and-error stuff you dealt with).
I'm SO envious of your automation! By the way, which Google TV hardware are you using?
Sick!!
Wow inspirational.
AMAZING
Thays pretty bad ass. What app did u use and what phone to do all this. How are the lights likned? By a reciever or did u wire it in to a computer?
Finally! someone who'll listen to me
wow thats amazing...
Great. I have sent the link to all my friends :>)
This is amazing. I was able to find the Reddit post about this, however, there doesn't seem to be much details. Any chance you could explain how this is all accomplished?
And for those of you who are calling him lazy...imagine how much work he had to put in to get this all working.
