Holy shit, I couldn't possibly imagine a version of this song better than the studio version, but I had wrong. This is absolutely amazing in every way.
It's actually "ain't this just like the present to be showing up like this". But, yeah, wow is right. One of my favourite verses of all time and my favourite part of the song.
Seriously, when Justin sings "and I said I... know it well" at 2:10 , notice the silence, calmness in his voice and the sun in his face.. it's as heavenly as you get it..
saw him at green man fest 2009 on a recommendation , not knowing his music left the arena a bon iver lover..it was such a profound and moving experience, there wasn't a dry eye that night.truly memorable. .xxx
When i heard this song in show called Chuck i couldnt get it out of my head. Via that show Chuck i discovered so many good artists and bands and one of them is Bon Iver with Creature, Skinny Love and Blood Bank in the show just amazing.
The background singers and him, they match so incredibly good. So much emotion in this performance, i could easily get lost in it. One of the best musicians of our times
just saw them tonight in calgary, and blood bank was one of the best performances of the night Bon Iver needs to release a live album, their crazy good live
@willdavidbarrett there was a free podcast download available of the last show they did before their "hiatus"... it's amazing and blood bank is done just as well as this, but you'll have to google it cuz i can't remember where it was :/ sorry
At some point during every one of their songs, I've cried. From For Emma ... to the Bon Iver,Bon Iver Album .. to the blood Bank EP... To 'Brackett, WI' .. & even to 'Rosyln' from the Movie series I despise the most (Twilight). Bon Iver always evokes some form of emotion from the listener. Amazing.
@0Pooyan i agree if you are comparing him to a David Gilmour he looks likethis is the first time he ever touched the Guitar, however i don't this band is about that....
@corbyboy12 I would give anything to see them live. Their albums have already changed my life. I'm curious as to what it would be like to see them live.
Then the snow started falling We were stuck out in your car You were rubbing both my hands Chewing on a candy bar you said ain't this just like depression To be showing up like this There's a moon waning crescent we started to kiss wow
haha yea i love those... especially the one with justin, mike and sean just sitting in a room with a bunch of old toys and playing flume... but i would love the link for this show if you could send it.. thanks dude
You do realize he is clearly quite capable of at least playing in key? The solo played here is intentionally atonal and is done in a fashion which you do not understand, which doesn't make it 'badly performed'.
Well I met you at the blood bank We were looking at the bags Wondering if any of the colors Matched any of the names we knew on the tags You said "see look that's yours! Stacked on top with your brother's See how they resemble one another Even in their plastic little covers" And I said I know it well That secret that you knew But don't know how to tell It fucks with your honor And it teases your head But you know that its good girl 'Cos its running you with red Then the snow started falling We were stuck out in your car You were rubbing both of my hands Chewing on a candy bar You said "Ain't this just like the present To be showing up like this" As a moon waned to crescent We started to kiss And I said I know it well That secret that we know That we don't know how to tell I'm in love with your honor I'm in love with your cheeks What's that noise up the stairs babe? Is that Christmas morning creaks? And I said I know it well I know it well And I said I know it well I know it well And I said I know it well I know it well
This might be a common interpretation, but: I view that blood bank as a metaphor for the couples soon-to-be child. They 'met' there. The secret that show knows is that she's pregnant, which she then tells him while they're stuck out in the car. Then the couple faces sharing their secret with others. Fast forwards a few years to when the child is a bit older. That noise down the stairs, or those 'Christmas creaks' are from an ambitous child going to open gifts. It took me awhile to piece it together, but I can't view it any other way now. Its a really subtle, beautiful song.
Even 12 years later. Still one of my favorite songs. This live version is amazing!!
Who else still loves this song over a decade and a half later?
This is my favourite song that I play every day on my acoustic... I know it well.
I come back to this once or twice a year
The guitar solo at the end is insane
Holy shit, I couldn't possibly imagine a version of this song better than the studio version, but I had wrong. This is absolutely amazing in every way.
Yes! So much better
The more homeless you look, the better musician you are. :D
This is just simply amazing!
It's actually "ain't this just like the present to be showing up like this". But, yeah, wow is right. One of my favourite verses of all time and my favourite part of the song.

THIS IS love song!
This song makes me want to be a better person.
aside from Bon Iver's live performance of Skinny Love on Jools Holland, this is my favourite performance. This man, Justin Vernon, is the God of Indie
Props for the Eau Claire t-shirt!
their voice combo is great...
♥️
@0Pooyan I think the idea of the solo is that, in some parts, it's just random noises.
eargasm
Vernon you are the best example of how every man should be
And you're playing with a broken string!
Vernon Is God! What say you!?
@corbyboy12 I would give anything to see them live. Their albums have already changed my life. I'm curious as to what it would be like to see them live.
simply great....
goosebumps!
this is amazing stuff
Then the snow started falling

I met him at the blood bank for the first time.
@willdavidbarrett do you think that you could possibly give me that link too?
Oh lord.
1.15 life changing 30 seconds.
Agreed :)
@bwlee24fsu Great song indeed. Lucky you, your heard a solo at the end...
1000x better than the studio version i think. so powerful
@spinasweetness it was"live at the riverside" in milwaukee... if that helps
You do realize he is clearly quite capable of at least playing in key? The solo played here is intentionally atonal and is done in a fashion which you do not understand, which doesn't make it 'badly performed'.
id love a link too!
his voice is like a combination of jesus and fergie
@willdavidbarrett ... I would like the link to that mediafire file if possible. Preformance looks great,
Damn!
@Muse13NJ It's a close call between him and Paolo Nutini but I think I'd have to go for Paolo.
Cold but brutally warm.
