Hey everyone! Director J here. Happy 1 year anniversary! We’re so excited to bring your the very first MTG EDH episode of Secret Partners!
We filmed this with Post waayyy back in April. Remember the episodes where the cameras overheated and got choppy?? This is from that same day. So it’s not your internet when Post & Michael’s camera is a little choppy for the first five minutes. And it’s not your computer when Joe & Evan’s camera is a little choppy about an hour in. Just our cameras suffering through a long shoot day with no AC.

We play this as “King, Bodyguard, two assassins and the Jester”. The King is revealed and starts with 50 life.

I do like that you guys shows the version of the played card and not just any version of the card that was played. For me as a budget player wo loves these alternative Versions a lot it brins my inner Monk to peace :)

My pod has been playing 5-6 players for about 2 years now. Kingdoms is another really fun format along with star. My play group is working on a dnd inspired game style that has been pretty epic so far. Working on the details and if they are ever ironed out I'll definitely pass it along.
One thing I recommend with more than 4 is a round table. It really makes keeping track of what is on the battlefield a bit more feasible considering how crazy things can get.
For home play, 100% a round table. I definitely didn’t have the cameras to cover a round table on set. I coulda used an extra two cameras for reverse coverage as it was. Will be better covered next time!
@@jasonballantyne3021 for sure I get it, we tried once with one camera as a test and it totally failed. I think that we devised that if there were two cameras in the middle facing down at the table you could split the tabletop and have it presented 3 on top and 3 on bottom and maybe have to do some video cropping (in a 6 player game). We were thinking cheap with another 2 cross shots for the players, but 4 would probably be ideal, but then you've got cameras everywhere, and then audio I'm sure can get rough. Thought you guys did a good job though and look forward to more.

My friends and I used to play a 5 player mode called kings. I think the way you guys are friends and enjoy politicking you guys would really enjoy it.
5 players
1 King - role is reviled and starts with 50 life
1 knight - role is hidden defends the king. The king wins the knight wins if the king loses the knight loses
1 Assassin - role is hidden and wants the king dead if the king dies the assassin wins
2 bandits - roles are hidden and needs the assassin dead before killing the king to win.
Both bandits can win this way as long as the assassin is dead and the king dies after. If the bandits kill the king while the assassin is alive the assassin takes the game.
Sean coming in like wildcard Charlie cutting the breaks of the game

Bang the card game (which is already western themed MTG artifact decks) is built around this secret role mechanic and is so fun.
I've played Assassin edh a bunch but never heard of secret partners. Kinda similiar but cool twist

I like the idea of this and it played out well but IMO and in my experience 5 player games don’t really work so well. It’s weird because you wouldn’t think the jump from four to five would be such a big deal but oddly it is. ALSO HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE JOCKS OF THE TABLE TOP! Thanks for an awesome year of commander content.
5 player games and up are rough but hopefully this is a way to show everyone it can happen easily and effectively! Also thank you for the belated birthday shout out! Thank you for being there and loving the content!
@@TabletopJocksI thought this game worked amazing! I loved the banter most. Maybe 5 and up work best with an established group but I’ve only done it with rando’s at my LGS and that’s been crunchy. At least you’re showing us that it is possible.
Very similar to Secret Kingdoms (personal favorite) and Treachery EDH variants. Both of which involve teams and their own unique role cards.
This was super fun, but, Posty, I love you: Jin-Gataxias is never "just chilling" and while Teferi is the master of chill, nobody likes him either, haha.
i like playing with secret partner. if you ever played "bang the dice game" you can play it that way as well. a sheriff, deputies, outlaws, renegade. very very fun way to play and its a lot like secret partners

I love how the odd 5th person is actually in the game. Always find the spectator person to be an awkward 5th wheel but this one was great.

It's annoying how Sean felt like he had to be apologetic to Posty for playing Farewell. Like, it was a perfectly reasonable play and why commander is such a great format - if someone rolls up with a cedh deck and develops a quick boardstate, it's gonna get dealt with. Beautiful.
That was epic! Great episode! Curiousity though on Helm of the Host. I believe you cannot copy the token as it is not created as a legendary since the main target is still on board when it resolves. Also, it does not create the text "haste" on the tokens, so the new token wouldn't gain haste. Am I wrong about these? For my own Helm of the Host curiousity.

I know this video is older, but am I the only one that noticed when Teferi got swords-ed, the Rhystic cast trigger would've resolved first (so if that card really would've helped, it would've been in post's hand before swords exiled Teferi)?

It’s usually for 5 and above since there has to be two teams that are face up. If there was 4 it would be one team and two lone wolves. I’ve never tried that but it could work. Let me know if you end up making it happen!

I have a episode request for y'all! OG EDH. Where you have three generals and one Commander and you can't play your commander without having your three generals on the battlefield. The only restriction is that you have to have a 3 or more colors in your Commanders identity.

One thing I noticed.
Michael missed his lifelink ancouple of turns. Could have made a difference unless there was something on the board that prevented this.
The Deathsprout miss-play is killing me!! Cruise wouldn’t of had enough land to equip helm to Norn and swing lethal at Post😭😭
Hahaha was a fun game. Will say as a fellow Isshin player I'm pretty sure the curse doesn't trigger twice, since its just an attack trigger not a creature attacking trigger. I learned the hard way lots of cards people would suggest for my Isshin deck don't actually combo with him because of stuff like that.
It still works since the curse was triggered by a creature attacking
@@Kristjan0209 Nah it wouldn't, since the trample is a static ability. The only triggered ability on the card is a creature dealing damage not on attack. So you wouldn't get a double trigger from isshin. Alot of people be getting his ability wrong by using cards like mishra claimed by Gix, emberwilde captain, Adeline resplendent cathar, or Brenna the demagogue. They're all triggered abilities on attack yes, but they don't say when a creature attacks just player. That way they don't actually trigger from Isshin.
@@jaisonk22 it doesn't have to say creature the effect just needs to be triggered by an attacking creature. But just in case I did some digging and found it works on online and arena like this as well (you also seem to have misread the curse)
