Mimi, You are truly inspiring. Today I rewatched Alex video "What to do when you are unemployed? or How to get a job!", because right now I struggle with myself, feeling more down than usual. Recently I decided that studies I chose did not make me happy, so I just left without a doubt, but as days pass I feel so lost, not only with finding a job, but also with what to do next with my life. I know that university is not the only way in ones life, but I know I want to study something. Right now I feel like a failure, but watching Yours and Your husband Alex videos somehow makes me think that every person has it's own path in life. Mimi, keep what You are doing, because You have a beautiful soul and You bring light into people's lives.

+Erika Bakūnaitė I never finished college and I turned out pretty good, haha! So no worries...I suggest asking yourself the questions I mentioned in this video and then finding the job you are excited about.

+Erika Bakūnaitė Hi Erika! I know how you're feeling. I'm a nurse since 2009 and I'm unemployed for 6 months. I've sent hundreds of resume and I've got no job. I live in Brazil, here is quite hard to find a job in nursing. I was feeling so down and I was feeling so lost. Then I started to study English and French, because I always wanted to learn other languages and someday I can move to another country. Now I'm selling cosmetics and clothes to get some money and I created a blog, too. I'm feeling better, but I don't have a job yet. I've got 7 interviews but no ones hired me. This is so hard to handle. But I'll keep trying to find a job. I can't give up. You should try to do something that makes you happy as I did, till you realise what you want to study.

Mimi, this couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I just graduated from university and have been applying for jobs over the past month. I realize now that I haven't been getting these jobs because I didn't have the "sparkle in my eye." I wasn't passionate about the jobs I was applying for. I wasn't aiming for the stars and applying for the job of my dreams. I am afraid of my dreams: Afraid I wont reach them. But of course I wont reach them if I don't even try to pursue them! This video was so helpful and I am feeling so inspired and recharged to keep applying.
    Thank YOU!

+Keltyn Kiresa Don't be afraid to apply for your dream job NOW, it will not only make you happier and healthier, but will save you a lot of time and probably money ;) However it could be hard to decide what is your true calling straight after university and how you can be 100% sure? Probably not, so is good to apply for jobs that resonate with you ( Mimi talks about it in the 1st part of this video) rather than just look for the ideal one. If you still feel it is challenging you can read "What Color Is Your Parachute?" and do exercise described in the book. Enjoy!

+Keltyn Kiresa I don't want this to be a downer but don't count on the first job being your dream job! I mean it could happen but in most cases the first job graduates get will literally be first one...followed by a second, a third, etc. Don't worry about it not being perfect. At the beginning what matters is getting your foot in the door, getting experience, and creating a network

+Keltyn Kiresa I just wanted to thank you for your replies. It's been a crazy week, but I actually managed to get a part-time contract job in the field of my dreams! It's the perfect job to get me exactly where I want to be and will propel me towards my dream job.

Like all of your advice videos, this is really great and incredibly helpful. I started applying for internships at 17, despite the legal age being 18, and got replies from everyone I applied to because of the effort I put into my CV and cover letter to stand out. I even had the editor at one of my internships show my CV to the entire office (an infographic I created on photoshop). I'm now a writer for the first magazine I interned at so the effort you put in really does pay off guys!

You're the kind of person I could have benefited listening for 'careers day' at school. I got my first job at 14 year old for Clarks shoes, I was too young really, but I remember being hungry for the position, and pulling out all the stops. I got hired on the spot, and it felt so good.

Yes Mimi please make a video on having sparkling eyes! I'm in the process of starting my own business right now, it's not easy but what drives me is my genuine desire to create value, uplifting people and giving back to this world. I read tones of books as my virtual mentors and I watch lots of interviews/videos of people that I admire and aspire to be (you and Alex are definitely in this list!) and what I've realised is that you all have this sparkle in your eyes, I want to live with that kind of sparking eyes as well! So again, please make a video on having sparkling eyes! Being a fan of yours for a long time but first time writing a comment. Love ya Mimi!:)

Whenever I am watching your videos Mimi I am so inspired to just quit and do something else. but thats the thing, I don't really have a craft or a hobby that I am good at. Mimi, everything you mention in this video is great. As an older woman I do not want to discourage the young generaton. It is not easy to be hired now a days. There is a tremendous challenge and also I believe you have to attribute "luck" and "who you know." So to the new generation do not feel bad not being hired even with the best resume. Keep trying and do not loose hope, do not feel sad even though you are not happy at your job. Sometimes things happen for a reason at times. Good luck to all.

Thank you for this video. This shed light for me. For many years I had been told and taught that , in order to get a job that I my resume, and interview had to pretty much be short, generic, and to the point. I had been told that employers dont have the time to read these resume's so more than likely the longer resumes would get passed by. I am currently looking for a job, and this truly confirmed to me that its ok to show my passion and personality. I love these types of videos and thank you for your love and passion in what you do.

I rewatched your video a few times and interviewed all week, and I just found out that I got the job today!! I truly think I got hired because I had a "sparkle in my eye" because this was in an industry I had no experience in and I was competing against people who actually had the technical experience! But I practiced and studied and now I actually have the job :) I can't thank you enough Mimi, you're an inspiration!

On interviews I always say that I want to bring some value to the job and to go one mile further and they are always surprised with this attitude (well, not enough cause Im still unemployed :D) Aaaanyways, thank you for everything you and Alex do, without you I would probably cry in my bed about how nobody wants to hire me :D

    why you get lazy applications:
it's depressing AF when you continually put so much effort into applications and don't hear anything back about them.... like wow i spent an hour on each of those 12 applications i sent out and for nothing...
so then you start spending less time and throw applications out into the world in a discouraged, lackluster manner.

+Kat B I hear you, Sometimes you go to apply and the application process is way to complicated, and long, and then I realize when i finish that the company is a lost and ask the question of how they can have such a poor application design. most companies need to invest more on improving their application process since having the right people to work for you makes for success. So I don't get why they don't make it more organized, simple and as well to give a response in a timely matter. But don't give up, because at least you are putting the effort and applying, your one step closer.

Also, I can so relate to what you're saying about being happy in 'whatever' you're doing, but also pushing further on what it is you enjoy about it. Very good video Mimi. I think another tip would be to don't underestimate yourself. I've seen a lot of people not applying for the job they want because they assume they are not going to call, but you have to dare to apply for your dream job and show them your passion and motivation to do it. You can acquire experience or knowledge but you can't acquire that attitude.

    HI Mimi
I am sending this video to all my friends!
I was lucky enough to find my dream job after returning to my hometown last year.
I love to help people, have fun with others, and to travel. Surprisingly enough I found this job that gives me all three at once.
I figured that I would never be able to find a job that fits all these three things in when I was young. I've had jobs that have one or two but never the three. I would like to say that it's possible and it does take time. I took 7 years to come back to my hometown after college and university and working in another city to find it.
Also I would like to support your opinion about it not being about money. You have to be happy to get up in the morning and at the end of the day. If you are genuinely happy in your dream job, the money is second.
Thank you for posting this video and all the amazing up beat encouragement videos.

Hi Mimi! I would like first, to say sorry for my poor English (I’m a French Canadian!). So I woke up this morning, completely hopeless and sad about my current professional and financial situation. I’m a full time student of 24 years old, and I a work occasionally in the kitchen of a medical center. For most of my life, I have always aspiring for something greater for my professional life. Because being a full time student and having so much to pay whether it for school, or food, or rent, I always and up with no money in my pocket! As the years goes by, I found myself being more and more depress about getting a better financial and professional status. I often apply for jobs that are reaching my dreams and expectations, with discouragement, lack of hope and constant fear to not be good enough. So I often end up putting the minimum effort on those jobs hunting. That pattern always leads to no results at all. By watching your video this morning, I started feeling hope again. Your advices and encouragements have strongly helped me to get back up on track. Now I’m convinced that something greater is waiting for me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much Mimi, you are an extraordinary woman and please keep doing what you do. -xoxo-

+Jojo t Girl, your English is perfect and you are waaay too young to be that frustrated. The fact you study and work at the same time to support yourself is also an achievement already. It's not you the one who has the problem, the problem is that nowdays we generally think of success as a one-fits-all standard and we make social status a life goal. Not having money sucks but people who don't have it are not the ones to blame, at least not always. And having money doesn't guarantee happiness. Even people who have become rich and/or made all their dreams come true can be unhappy (it must be boring not having any more dreams to achieve). Anyhow, what I mean to say is you should be proud of yourself already :)

karmina83 Thank you very much. You are so right when you refer success of our current society as a one-fit all standard and I definitely agree with you. Sometime, we are so focus on reaching that standard and so harsh on ourselves whenever we don’t, that it makes it hard for us to appreciate and congratulate our self for the achievements that we made so far. And the lack of money sure makes it even more difficult to realise this. But once again, you are right, money is not the key word for happiness! Thanks again for taking that time to cheer me up, I really appreciate it. :)

Hey, interning for free and just getting out there and telling people and institions that I really want to work for them - that's exactly how I got most of my jobs so far :) I'm a historian, and all my former university classmates are complaining that this field is so competetive that you don't have a chance getting a job, but that's not true. You just have to try hard and show people your passion and interest, and they will be happy to give you that chance!
Btw thanks Mimi, I always watch your videos when I'm feeling a little down or depressed and I always feel encouraged and inspired afterwards!

It was so sad for me to be afraid of shining. I used to talk to my friends about it and they just couldn't understand what I meant because I am so ambitious and I look so confident so they just couldn't see my fear of succeeding at something and finally shine. Now I know I'm not alone and I got emotional too when you said it because I feel less lonely and in some ways understood. All the information you gave in this video are really helpful by the way, and I'd like to see the other videos you suggested :) But the best part of the video is the end, when you talk about the "sparkle in the eyes" and I totally get what you mean. I really do love talking with someone who has that sparkle, and I mean even from a non professional point of view: I just love when people I've just met or even my friends talk about something they're really passionate about because they smile so lovely, they got excited and their eyes just speak their soul and I totally understand why you are looking for someone who can do all these things while applying for your company. I mean, every employer would be happy to hire someone who's really passionate about the job because it means he/she understands and care about the company himself. Anyway I'd see every video of yours just because I like you as a person and I'm really curious about your point of view about certain things so please do the fashion & sparkle related one! Have a nice week :)

Actually listening to you - you're a great speaker, full of good healthy energy, it's refreshing! - However, I think that what you say could boil down to: "To live a happy life, by mentally healthy" and what you describe is just how mentally healthy people think and behave. Great! Now, many of us have fears, anxieties, traumas, inner conflicts.... and that's why what you say is not easy to apply for many of us. Have a great day!

I'm doing my 2nd year at Uni (out of 6) and my dream is to have my own business in the future. However berore that, I need to (and I want to) gain experience working in other places. Recently I spotted a place where I'd love to work and in a month and a half I'm having my first, week-lasting internship there (I won't be paid, but that doesn't matter). I have so many classes that I can't do both the internship and Uni. Still, I'm going to do free internships in different places every winter and summer holidays and I'm going to volunteer in my dream company each year. They're not looking for anyone to hire now, but maybe in 4 years they will, who knows? So you see Mimi, I'd followed your advice even before you gave it to us ;)
Thank you for a great video! I'm certainly going to share it with my friends, who're looking for a job.

Hey Mimi! I totally agree with you! From my own experience when I was looking for a job I did not expect to get a good salary and was even ready and open to work for free (like internship and volunteering) as far as I really wanted to be a part of that team and do what I love the most. And how many applications I send non of them reacted towards me as possible candidate because I was luck of experience as I just graduated from my University. However, I never gave up even I felt so down and not appreciated I can tell that being honest to your possible employer is the biggest plus. That is how I got 2 jobs at the same time, just by writing very open and honest letter without attaching my portfolio (I am a graphic and web designer also working with production in general filming and editing). So one thing that is for sure right - if you want something from all your heart and do anything that do not harm others to get fulfil your goals as job you want for this matter, you will always get one! People should stop being stubborn, do whatever it takes to and believe in themselves no matter that previous job interview was not successful or application did not get through the next step!

Thank you so much for this Mimi! It's so great to hear from someone who is on the hiring side. It's changed how I view applications and interviews. I also found from experience that applying for your dream job is in some ways easier than for a job you don't really want to do. I worked at a supermarket because I wanted extra money at university and the application was so tedious because I found it really hard to answer questions like "Why do you want to work for us?" But when I was applying to my dream master's degree course, writing the statement of purpose came so natural because I was so passionate about it.

It was so beautiful to see how passionate you are about helping people reach their potential and live their dream life. As an aspiring business owner I am now faced with the reality that I will soon have to build a team so I really appreciated your advice. Cover letters are such a crucial element in the hiring process. They really give life to the resumes. And internships are such an amazing opportunity to build your skill set and network with people. And today, most internships are paid which is a nice bonus. Definitely loved that you mentioned body language. So much can be said about a person from the way they carry themselves. And I loved that you said the employers want you to succeed. They want you to be the person they want to hire. Such a great, positive message! Overall, great advice, Mimi!!!

Sometimes.. You don't always know what your dream job is. I am very gifted at working with the community and non-profit. I always felt pushed by family and friends to work in social service. I always have a project I am managing. But, because it is something I care so much about, doing it full time as my job became quite consuming. Especially, when taking all of the non-profit project manager positions, I would become so invested in my projects that I would literally put all of my money right back into the agency that was paying me. It wasn't until after I was hospitalized for ulcers that I realized that I enjoyed this so much more when I wasn't getting paid for it. I switched to a job at a very small accounting firm. Here, my biggest drama is not getting an account to reconcile or not having enough information to file the correct tax forms at the end of the season. I love it mostly because I can put it down and leave it there. I still volunteer in different agency's and take up project. I am doing a business and leadership seminar for the Girl Scouts of Northern California in two weeks, starting teams for walk a mile in her shoes ( a campaign for North Coast Rape Crisis) and Bowl For kids sake ( A campaign for Big brothers big sisters.) I am doing what I love to do and committing myself to what I am prepared to be emotionally invested in. My job is wonderful, but it is just my job. I learn so much and enjoy the mental challenges I am faced with.

I am 19 and I am in my second year of college. I study to become a midwive. I always knew I wanted to do something with people (especially kids). But on the other side I have a passion for fashion and make-up, I love the fact that with clothes and make-up I can express my own style. After I graduate college, I want to follow a make-up cours. I think I never will be sure what 'the job' for me is because I am interested in so many different things.

On one hand I think I'd like to study medicine because I love working with people and I'm really interested in health but then on the other hand I love fashion and I would love a job in it. I really have no idea what the best job is for me. It is such a hard decision.

+Goossens Maud and +niamh1998 , although you're too young to worry about figuring out what to do for the rest of your life, I have the feeling (could be wrong) your natural talent is helping people. We get so much influence from social media, we get distracted and think of fancy jobs and lifestyles as our dreams. Most of us love fashion, music and movies and all those sparkly things, but it doesn't mean our ideal jobs are in those industries. I started studying to be a social psychologist, gave up for fashion design school, and HATED the studies and the work as well but kept doing it because I thought it was a dream that came true. It's hardly ever as fun as it seems. Your job in fashion is not necessarily to express your own style, but someone else's (designer or fashion house), except if you're a big high-end designer, which means you have to constantly be inspired and work non-stop for the next collection. Make up artists usually follow designers' and stylists' directions, and work backstage at a fashion show is stressful as hell. The fashion industry makes it look this way because it sells, it's part of the marketing. It took me a lot of time to admit to myself that my "dream" was mistaken and start all over, who would give up a life that was so many other people's dream, right?! I finally went back and to social studies and graduated from there too. I never miss working in fashion, I just like observing it and dressing up, and that, is fun.

Just like this one for instance. I learned a lot. You mentioned different things that I would have never thought about. For instance on how the employer wants you to succeed and if you are nervous to just mention it while mentioning how thankful you're for the opportunity. I had an internship interview yesterday and it's so funny you've publish this video this time when i've been looking for a job. And I understand now that I have to make an effort with writting application and the interview...I worked pretty hard on my application, mostly personalizing it and describing my experineces in more details. I've put some of my work about my workshops as well and employers were very interested in me. They've practically just called me to tell me, I've got it. And all it took for me is to be myself on paper as in person and just believe in myself that this is what I am capable to do. Thank you for sharing this video!
