The best thing about listening to these is you're getting a great chilling story while you can mosey about and get things done instead of sitting in front of the idiot box without the mundanity and uniformity of an e-book. Best of both worlds.
Been a fan of radio drama since I first discovered it almost 15 years ago and its wonderful seeing so many people, especially the younger ones who never grew up with radio shows, discover these treasures.
I am also pleased that younger people are into it. I grew up listening to them on the radio in the 70s. When these younger people encounter them, they have no trouble recognizing the quality. The storytelling is so good. I think those younger people are going to have an easier time discriminating between good and bad movies and TV also. There is lots of TV and movies that are far inferior to great radio drama.
I think it was Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) who said, "I love it when someone turns on the radio (in our times it would be the television), because it reminds me to go read a book". These are well written and the acting is on point. Better than that really?ality crap on tv.
Your channel is awesome! Thank you for bringing back the good treasures from the past which most people of mine or this generation don't appreciate or even know about!
Amazing collection and content. Thanks for sharing. Started the marathon last night and purposely holding back a little each hour to spread out the Greatness.
"Arch Oboler was born on December 7, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was a writer and director, known for Five (1951), Bwana Devil (1952) and The Twonky (1953)" So cool to find this collection. Thank you!!
I’m too young to have listened to radio shows but I loved reruns of twilight zone in the eighties then my dad turned me onto radio shows on serious xm and arch obler and Ernest chapel were magic together. Nothing else compares to lights out and quiet please
Sorry to hear about your TV. I have a big analog JVC that I got for $65. & yeah it's an older TV, but it has a big screen & beautiful picture and great sound, the only thing I don't like about it is that it weighs ALOT, but it works great. Maybe you can get one of them till you can save for the one you one you want.
I like these stories especially! They are a notch more intense and scary than many radio plays of that era. The warning to listeners is still today….worth heeding 😲🥺😱😉
I agree, they are intense. Arch Obler had a knack for creating grisly stories. Other shows in this genre typically depended on ghosts, but Obler focused on the cruelty of one person against another.
Epic collection of a show that used to blow my young mind not unlike The TZ and The O. Limits on TV in the early 70's, Lights Out, Quiet Please and similar such radio shows in syndication continued to light my fire indeed. Thank you!
I remember listening to Lights Out when I was a boy. Our local radio station would play Lights Out in the mid 50s. Loved it. AFVN in 1968 played Lights Out when I was in Vietnam while in the Marines.
That's so cool. Nice to know you guys had something to remind you of home. I sent so many letters to my friends brother..filled with fun stuff and wrapped it all in the Sunday funnies. He told me all his buddies would ask " has Arlene sent a package?" It gave me great pleasure to make you guys happy.
@@williambooth8631 Whatever you say. Just trying to figure out what you're after by posting this. You seem like you were either confused or complaining. If you're looking for the rest of Lights Out then there will eventually be two more collections uploaded to this channel. I would put them all into one video but RUclips doesn't allow videos longer than 12 hours.
William Booth would be nice if they still had them. Things were so much more simple the further back in time you go. Not easier, simpler. Maybe easier to be happier.
@Eilliw Nodrog I totally agree with you. Hollywood is definitely like zombies. Used to get some fresh creativity from Canada and Britain, but not anymore. If you search RUclips you can find some very creative minds.
Oh man, this is great. I actually remember some of these. Nice to hear them again. Loved this series but forgot how annoying the slow "It's later than you think" was. Lol
I remember a shoe like this on TV in the early 1950's. A Karloff like character sitting at a single candle flame would blow the candle out at the end of the show.
Anyone remember this. Things that go bump in the night, should not really give one a fright, it’s a hole in the ear, that lets in the fear, that and the absence of light. Spike Milligan ( I think)
The youngest of three, I am so fortunate my father was born in the 30’s and raised us old school. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and listened to more old time radio than I watched television. I feel it’s 100 percent the reason I have a great imagination. Love all those shows and even though my family has passed, it keeps me close to them.

Some of you may remember Bill Cosby, back before the Huckstables, doing a stand-up routine of his memory of listening to the Chicken Heart episode while he was supposed to be sleeping.
OMG I had that record I used to listen to it all the time when I was a kid haha. I never knew it was actually based on a real episode. I just figured he made it up lol.
I'd like to imagine that the "most played" graph is the way it is because people couldn't take the tension, especially considering some of the ghastly stories before, and had to skip ahead to hear how "happy ending" turned out.

Thanks for this. Awesome
I’ve listened to many of these old time radio shows - most were not so great - but these lights out episodes are all really good.
Ones imaginations are more frightening than any movie
This 1st one is an extra interesting one as they use the host/writer of the series as the main character starring as himself in his own horror story.
I believe that was the last episode too🥺
Bill Cosby used to do a bit about listening to lights Out,as a child. The story revolved the "Chicken Heart". Funny stuff
