There are a number of theories of why Gus didn't get to the car. But my favorite is the simplest: he does shit like this all the time.
A certain german chancellor survived at least 42 murder attempts on him by simply not following his schedule. He would randomly take different routes, move his meetings in different buildings, cut short state visits and other such things, and it would throw the assassins' plans in disarray; timed bombs had to be disarmed or rescheduled for example.

    • @Derkosson
      @Derkosson 4 месяца назад +4

@@williamshelton4318 And at the same time, he had advanced the meeting, causing the assassin to have to retime his bombs, but he could only get one of the charges and had to disarm the other. Had the bomb been at full power, it would probably have been enough.

I guess this is a spoiler for the next episode, so avoid it if you care about spoilers.
The prevalent theory of Gus not going near the car is because of the meeting with Jesse. Jesse tells him that Brock was poisoned. Gus, knowing he didn't poison him, has a suspicion of it being a setup to draw him to the hospital through Jesse. Only after that, he changed his scheduled departure, I don't think it was part of his normal calculated paranoia. I do believe Gus acts like you said in other instances, but in this case there was almost a certainty in his mind about imminent danger. His car, or the parking garage in general, was the most plausible attack vector.

"But my favorite is the simplest: he does shit like this all the time."
This is mine too. A man in Gus' position would have to develop a sixth sense for these situations to survive, through previous experiences and a natural ability to "read the room". If he didn't he would be dead or in prison by now.

This episode commonly gets somewhat underrated/overlooked I think when people talk about the great episodes of the show but its one of my favourites and I think it has the most iconic moments of any episode (Walt spinning the gun, Walt making the bomb, Walt vs Jesse and the bombing attempt). I think Episode 8 Hermanos -> Episode 13 Face Off is probably the greatest 6 episode run in TV history.

Gus knew *he* didn't poison Brock. On the way to the car he gets thinking about who might have done it. Walter is the only other person who might make sense, but why? Gus actually puts it all together correctly while he's standing in the parking ramp. The clue he has that we don't is that he knows he didn't do it.

Here's my personal formulation of Gus's thought process at the end:
    1) A child being poisoned and without a know cause is rare and given Jesse's line of work and history, Jesse may be likely to infer that something nefarious is going on.
    2) The most likely villians are Walt and Gus.
    3) If Jesse blames Walt then he is more likely to have already confronted him in person. But Jesse says nothing about Walt, not even to cast suspicion on him.
    4) If Jesse does blame Gus then he will certainly want vengeance and there is some likelihood that it would involve Walt's help. Basically, it is suspicious that Jesse has not hinted at blaming anyone
5)Here's the important part: what could Jesse's plan be? He did not ask or encourage Gus to do anything, to give anything, to go anywhere, to pay anything--he did not influence him in any way...except that he induced him to come to the hospital and that's all.
    6) And nothing happened at the hospital, Gus is about to leave scot-free and go back to the places where he always has surveillance and security...except there's the one last part about leaving which involves getting in the car and driving off

edit: and to be fair maybe the scenes i dont like with him were the writers problem, not his.

Jesse thinks that of Walt because of all the mean things he has said to him before and because he thinks he would want revenge on him for being the cook because of the way he acted with him the last time he was going to cook his blue formula without him and even though Walt is not trying to hurt Jesse, Jesse is not wrong. Knowing you guys are already on the next episode i guess i can say this, remember the lilly of the valley plant that the gun pointed to? Walt would not kill the kid with ricin but he would with lily of the valley because he can recover from that he needed Jesse to realize that Gus is still the bad guy just because he saves Jesse's life in Mexico by not taking him out too with the poison and that he needs Jesse now doesn't mean he is not willing to kill Walt's family and kids and didn't mean he didn't order Andrea's brother to be killed when he said no more children so he needed Jesse to get back on his side with hateing Gus and since Jesse wont talk to him or listen to him the way to do it is to blame Gus for poisoning Brock as a move to get Jesse to do the killing for him that's the story he wants Jesse to believe, i think he knew Jesse would suspect him since they were the only two who knew about it and he would have to plant the idea of Gus doing it to him .

The ricin was in a tiny vial. When Walt told Jessie not to smoke it; he was joking! because Jesse chose to hide the shit in his own cigarettes. I suppose it's possible that the vial or the seal could be damaged, and that the ricin could partially be inhaled - but that's not likely. This show is unlike any other show in that it doesn't dumb things down for the audience ever. It the audience is confused it's just too bad- I've never seen any other tv show like it.
