I'm so glad you did this video because THANK YOU for touching on the issues with the relationship in The Fake Out between the physical therapist and her athlete. I'm an athletic trainer for a college hockey team and I legitimately can't read these books because of relationships like this - I've seen multiple books written with this trope and it gives me the BIGGEST ICK because yes, it is unethical practice: you will get fired, be reported to the board of certification, and lose your license
I know it looks appealing for outsiders because it's basically forced proximity and makes for the perfect meet cute, but let me tell you, I couldn't even look at any of them that way. I'm the same age as some of them but I'm basically their mom lmao

Listen. Maybe a controversial opinion but I think that gay hockey romances are the way to go. I've read many (many) hockey romances over the years and now every time I feel like reading one I'm always reaching for the gay ones. Idk why. I just think they're super sweet.

Dude yes! I got into mm hockey romances on accident but when I tried reading straight hockey romances I was disgusted. They fall into such unhealthy patterns of behavior and are really gross to me most of the time so I don't even bother reading any other hockey romance or any sports romances except for mm ones.

Has anyone read "Check Please!" by Ngozi Uzaku? It started as an online comic, and is available as two graphic novels now! It's SO GOOD! So funny and heartwarming and romantic... It follows the story of a gay hockey player who falls in love with a teammate, how he deals with it, and ultimately how the team deals with something that is so "taboo" in their world of sports. I really highly recommend it!! ❤❤❤

I grew up a few minutes away from where the Panthers play and it's so funny to me because I don't think I knew anyone growing up who had ever actually played it. Clearly it's popular enough that we have two teams but I just always assumed it had to do with how many people here come from up north.

A hockey romance I loved was Icebreaker, by AL Graziadei (NOT the one by Hannah Grace!! Different books!). It's YA, but I'm not a huge YA person so giving 5 stars to a YA contemporary romance for me is nearly unheard of for me haha. Two hockey rivals on the same university team fall in love, sort out difficult family dynamics, and decide whether to come out publicly. It was lovely, and some of the dad/son conversations and relationship progress made me cry!

This isn't a fantasy or a superhero story or something where there are good and bad guys, someone wants to destroy or take over the world, there aren't teams teaming up to save a civilization... it's a high school romance... It's an office romcom... It's tennis.

As someone who has seen more hockey in your videos than anywhere else in my entire life... I'm incredibly confused about how the Stanley Cup works. The Oilers won? But then it kept going? And Florida could still win? Even though they lost? I don't... I don't understand.

Hahahha the teams play "best of 7" tournaments basically.
So it started with 16 teams and they each get paired up with another team at the beginning. They play each other until someone wins 4 games.
Then whoever wins moves on to the next round, where only 8 teams move on.
They play best of 7 again, then there are 4 teams.
They play best of 7 again, now there are 2 teams.
The Oilers and Panthers have won the most amount of games so now they play until someone wins 4. Right now the Oilers have won 2 and the Panthers have won 3. So tomorrow if the Panthers win again, they will have won 4 and gotten the Stanley Cup. If the Oilers win, they have to play AGAIN because they will only then be at 3.

WHAT !!!! I'm also an Habs fan through and through! I had the chance to go see them play live 2 times. I'm geographically closer to Québec but my dad's family was never Nordique fans. Here in Québec we have nostalgic people who are always against the Canadiens just by principle. Book wise now, I recently read book 1 of a french serie about hockey and ..... I was RAGING ! Thankfully it was towards the end so I got to finish it despite the high cringe level. The author wrote : THE GAME WAS 90 MINUTES & he got a RED CARD FOR BATTLE!! I was so disappointed. The author did not research more than 2 minutes. How could this pass editing and publishing. Nobody read it before or what?
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

The fake out is a sequel. I felt like there was more hockey in the first book.

You've inspired me to read outside my normal genres and try books I NEVER would have picked up myself this year. I don't really follow Hockey at all, but I'm curious to read 'Call me Indian' now. I couldn't find one if you've done a video for it, but I'd love your updated favorites of ALL time. I would watch the full length cenima episode of that!

I loved this vlog💓 I know that no-one’s life is perfect, but following along with what you get up to is so cute!☺️
(Also, I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the vlog, but I’ve been struggling with body image stuff and intuitive eating. Just seeing you eat icecream was the permission I needed to treat myself to a brownie today without feeling guilty. Your meals always look so delicious btw!💛)

I’m watching this as a European from a country that is as far removed from hockey as possible (I have never seen a single game of hockey and I would bet no one in my family did either) but I’m SAT and INVESTED 🫡🫡🫡

Kayla, for hockey romance, Canadian author Rachel Reid is THAT GIRL. She writes m/m romance, that honestly are more smutty than your taste, but the hockey content is fantastic, and includes discussion around homophobia in hockey spaces. In her GameChangers series, #2 Heated Rivalry (& its sequel, #6) features love interests that are BOTH hockey players. It’s my favorite of the series. (It can be read as a stand-alone). Her new, traditionally published, wintery romance Time to Shine also features two hockey players as love interests! I haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet, but it might be a good choice for you to try (grumpy x sunshine, probably less smutty since tradpub, signature Rachel Reid hockey content)! I’d love to hear your thoughts, even if our opinions end up differing!

I hate when a hockey romance book is inaccurate! My (somewhat) local team is the Stars. I am rooting for the Panthers. I love the way Tkachuk plays.
