Take it in that the reason drivers and blades share weapon(s) in base Xenoblade 2 all started because of Lora and Jin, some 500 years ago! Fucking love this game, man.
I always wondered exactly why weapon passing was a thing, but this DLC's cutscenes make it much more obvious why. A Blade can't use their full range of power while they're fighting on the front lines, which is what Lora realized completely by hapinstance. The moment where Jin is going in with the sword, only to pass it and activate his shield, so Lora gets in a sneak attack, is the epitome of why the system works. And all because they couldn't afford another sword.
2:47 It's not you. Torna is running on a better version of the same engine XC2 ran on. That's why it looks better. It's also why they were allowed to have Torna have a separate physical release too. As opposed to XC3's dlc which still used the same version of the engine. In fact this is the same game engine that Monolithsoft has been using for every Xenoblade game since the first one on the Wii. And with each game they've improved on it more and more. All the way up to Xenoblade X DE. They're actually working on a new game engine that's completely different from this one that will be used for a variety of different Nintendo games. But it won't be ready for another 3 years.
@ Who do you think helped with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom? If it wasn’t for Xenoblade X those games wouldn’t have been as beloved as they are. Monolithsoft even has a separate office dedicated to providing assistance to Nintendo games. Like Zelda, Splatoon and Animal Crossing. Now get these guys to help Gamefreak on Pokemon cause they desperately need it.
I am still convinced that someone working for MonolithSoft is a sorcerer, because there is no explanation beyond black magic for how they have managed to get these games to run so well on such weak consoles relative to the size of the worlds these games take place in.
I think it's more likely that Future Redeemed didn't get a standalone release because it would be extremely hard to follow if you didn't play all the other games. Anybody can just pick up Torna and play it without much fuss.
It's pretty common for followups in the same engine to have a lot more refinement for basically the reasons you were mentioning. Ocarina->Majora, Red/Blue->Gold/Silver, AW1->AW2, etc. Also helps that they actually had time to work on this. Addam had the hood on in the base game because they weren't able to finish his model in time.
I'm glad you think Jin is beautiful Zeiga because in the base game, when you commented on how Addam had nice looking lips in his hooded form... well, the game was rushed, y'see, and Addam's model wasn't complete yet, so the developers used Jin's model as a placeholder and put a hood over him hoping nobody would notice.
I'm so excited for this! Fun fact: The game creator said the reason blades and drivers fight separately is because, at this time in the world, trust between blade and wielder wasn't as universally strong as in Rex's time. It's very rare to see a human holding a Blade's weapon. And they designed the battle system around that! Good work on the not drinking :) Adam is such a neat guy. Not really a spoiler, but the way this one ends leaves enough dangling questions that aren't answered until the base game, that it's genuinely possible to play this first and not be fully spoiled. Best comparison I can give is if Revenge of the Sith ended with Anakin on the side of the volcano, so you didn't see him turn into Darth Vader and didn't see Padme give birth. Yeeeaaah, you're finally starting it! Let me sincerely welcome you to "Torna: The Mythra-roasting country"! I look forward to your experience in this DLC!
as a reminder. between main game and torna was 300-500 YEARS (i forgot the exact time gap) so yeah addams probably dead by main game on that fact alone.
Addam is such a goofy ass mf I can't help but love him. And you're so real for that Mythra fan cam. As far as the whole prequel thing goes, it's always the same. If someone from it is not in the main game that usually spells bad news. As far as Xenoblade goes we're 50/50. 1 Definitive Edition and the upcoming X Definitive Edition have sequel story expansions. 2 and 3 on the other hand got the prequel treatment.
First off, that beginning is very relatable (gotta love being sick), second off, the sound effects for Lora's punch and kicks caught me off guard, excellent.
They actually had to change the name of the dlc in development. Originally it was called “Mythra has a mental breakdown and gets ptsd”, but they decided that didn’t sound catchy enough.
Your journey with xenoblade 2 truly never ends lol it'll be neat to see this with xenoblade 3 as well whenever you get the chance to play it. Also glad to see you enjoy Addam's infectious personality.
22:45 He founded Fonsett Village and and built Spirit Crucible Elpys as His Tomb and the resting spot of The Third Aegis, stated in the Base Game. To knowledge of whether he had children or descendants I will not speak of because it is a spoiler.
Torna the Golden Country is the peak of Xenoblade IMHO. I've been waiting from this series with baited breath, and your first episode does not disappoint. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Warning: I hate to be a spoilerino, but please complete sidequests! Think of it like Ursula’s quest that takes forever, but unfortunately sidequests are mandatory Completion time takes between 10-20 hrs Welcome to Torna The Golden Country
oh daaaamn I didnt think it would be this soon. But I sure am not complaining. Time for the arguably most fun xenoblade combat system, a great story and definitely no tears at the end
Don't know if you'll try to keep up with these, but there's a new camp conversation after every cutscene, and for some reason that includes the pre-battle scenes, which as you'd guess, get overwritten by the post-battle scenes (if you're wondering how you'd see those, it's just flavor text for if you lose a fight). Gotta love that Jin and Lora being broke is the entire basis of the combat in the main game. Also, remember to adjust the audio settings here as well, those cutscenes were sufferin'. You can also turn off the "added to Community" animation, in case you don't wanna see that every time you talk to a new NPC. It doesn't skip the community complete animation.
Adam is such a goofy goober. He basically has the power to wipe out entire continents in his hands, yet off he goes getting chummy with a group of broke stangers who adopted a random child from some scorched ruins. And we all love him for it.
5:23 speaking of that, I was thinking of how torna Jin is way different from main game Jin. It's like watching a movie where an actor is playing a really evil role, basically being the villain but then in another movie the same actor is playing as the most nicest person ever. It's feels so dizzying too like we watched him be evil but then all of a sudden he's super nice.
I didn't initially like Lora's voice from the flashback cutscenes in the base game. I thought the deep voice was very ill fitting for her youthful design. Now that we got Torna and hear her voice a lot more I do take it back. Her voice is really nice.
2:47 Comments correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure Torna the Golden Country uses a different engine or an updated version of the previous engine from base game.
As a guy who has bought Torna 3 seperate times you could say I'm mildy excited for this. Finally found the physical editon of thia game last week maybe I'll play alongside you
I bought it digitally a standalone first because I wanted to be be able to play it independently of having my XC2 cartridge in, then I bought the XC2 expansion pass later which comes with Torna included in the price. Lastly, after two years of searching, I found the rare physical editon for it at a local store and bought it to complete my collection of physical Xenoblade Switch games. The case has art of Malos overlooking the Torna titan on the inside and comes with a code for XC2 DLC pack 1-3 (unfortunately of no use to me due to my purchase order)
I... HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR U TO START THIS LETS GOOOOOOOOO. In all seriousness im glad u can finally play this amazing dlc, and actually the final cutscene in the game (no spoilers) has my probably my favorite piece of dialouge from any xenoblade game and i cant wait to see ur reaction to it.
I do wonder what made his personality change. Cause he's a lot more lively and flirty in the base game but more quiet in Torna. Actually Mythra doesn't even recognize Mihkail in the base game if I recall. Yeah I get it its been 500 years and he's grown up as a Blade Eater, but still. Missed opportunity if you ask me to have them talk.
@@FireFury190 Honestly, more confusing than Mythra not recognizing Mikhail is Mik seemingly not recognizing Mythra. (Or maybe it was just puberty and he did recognize her, but not how beautiful she was.) As for the personality change, I've heard that it's likely thanks to Milton telling him to keep smiling.
LET'S GOOOOO Alternate names for the DLC: Trauma: The Broken Country Everybody Hates Mythra Two Zesty Boys A Series of Unfortunate Events The writers 100% knew you were going into this with all the trepidation you're displaying, and played with that intentionally. It's brilliant. Good luck with the side content. It's massive. Not as much as the base game by far, but you're looking at probably a good 60 hours. And it's all fun, imho.
I'm glad you said you're going to do the side quests as you go along because, in the DLC, there really isn't any "side quests". There'll come a point in the DLC where to advance you'll have had to do basically all of the Side Quests to continue the main story so it's best to just do them as they come along. Also, Jazz battle music is my jam every day!
I’m late by 2 minutes, I DESERVE to get Hubert treatment. In all seriousness, last I played XBC2 (you made me get my hopes up I could beat Elma, and I did, so neat.) I had a feeling you’d like Torna’s opening hours way more than the base game (ignoring the fact your always skeptical when you start a new series where your is up by 100 till you start getting in sync with your party) let’s hope I’m right.
I was wondering when this would happen, so excited to see more Xenoblade! Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions in this DLC 👀 They also sadly roast Mythra a lot in this game as you noticed in 21:41 lol I'm still watching the video so I apologize if you already said something or read in the comments about it, just a tip; make sure to complete the side quests along the way since they will be mandatory later, so you can enjoy the story without interruptions! 😊
I mentioned before in the finale that Malos was born from Amalthus' destructive desires, but had lived for over 500 years and developed into his own person, even if he did come to the same conclusion as Amalthus in his own way. Here you see prime douchebag Malos before all that who is just enjoying the evil.
23:00 is that Django Django playing in the background it's hard to heard but I keep hearing thay song after I started playing GG Xrd. Edit: yesh that definitely is hearing it in later pauses great music choice
I have really got into the series in the last year, I think I had seen you played Strive on the channel at once. The music in that series is phenomenal, Strive having lyrical themes for every character and even the non rock songs and more somber tones from games like Xrd SIGN are really good
Glad to see the start of Trauma the Golden Experience. It’s a very unpopular opinion but I didn’t really enjoy it as much as the base game because the combat felt more finicky to me.
19:09 If you can notice, sorry for spoiling, Addam and Mythra don’t share Myhtra’s sword, Addam uses his own. Lora and Jin use the style the base game is familiar with and EVERY driver uses the concept of sharing the Blade’s weapon. I won’t outright say it, but Lora and Jin may have shaped Alrest’s history
This is something people complain about but didn't bother me, but you should know: the game gates progression by Sidequest. so I'd recommend doing every sidequest as soon as it's available.
28:42 it’s funny that you compare Lora to Rex. There’s a theory that when Mythra disassociated into Pyra, that she viewed Jin as everything she wasn’t: quiet, controlled, thoughtful, good at cooking, etc. and this formed the basis for Pyra’s personality. So Lora and Jin work as a kind of inverse of Pyra and Rex
This is the story that made me love Xenoblade 2 even more. Honestly, Lora is someone in the franchise who deserved better. At least Pyra and Mythra managed to walk out of their struggles with smiles on their faces eventually. Lora will never be afforded that opportunity. 1:04 In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. Remember, Jin is meant to be a foil to Rex.
Since you beat the base game you should know there’s a secret title screen you can now see when you boot up the game (and don’t worry, it doesn’t spoil Torna in any way).
It really makes you wonder, with all the improvements in the U.I in Torna, including a spot to look at previous tutorials, why didn't they add that stuff to the main game in a future update? It's kind of baffling.
Addam really is a combination of Rex and Zeke. He's got Rex's looks and Zeke's personality. I also like how this game showed that Addam and Mythra's relationship is more of a father daughter one. Welcome to Mythra Gets Roasted: The Video Game
Got dam I thought it was 100+ or something goddamn!
9:19 their race is indoline
I'm so excited for you to play this! You're going to love it!!!
YES. were one step closer to the xenoblade 3 dlc
16:00 I love that LMAO
Only love for Addam (and Mythra) ❤
TTGC if full of wonderful moments and other moments that will make you cry
Addam is such a goofy ass mf I can't help but love him. And you're so real for that Mythra fan cam.
As far as the whole prequel thing goes, it's always the same. If someone from it is not in the main game that usually spells bad news. As far as Xenoblade goes we're 50/50. 1 Definitive Edition and the upcoming X Definitive Edition have sequel story expansions. 2 and 3 on the other hand got the prequel treatment.
I love that the reason people use their blade’s weapon in xenoblade 2 is cuz 500 years ago 2 people were broke
I love origins like that. Like some Jak And Daxter shit lol
First off, that beginning is very relatable (gotta love being sick), second off, the sound effects for Lora's punch and kicks caught me off guard, excellent.
Finally, I've been waiting for this
this is jin before he went coo coo crazy
Before he became a genocidal serial killer
Xenoblade Chronicles X DE gets announced and my boi is starting Torna, the Earth is healing once again
Firstly get ready for heartbreak! 💔😢
Secondly little does he know how you progress the story he he he!!! 😅😂
Torna the Golden Country is the peak of Xenoblade IMHO. I've been waiting from this series with baited breath, and your first episode does not disappoint. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
Warning: I hate to be a spoilerino, but please complete sidequests! Think of it like Ursula’s quest that takes forever, but unfortunately sidequests are mandatory
Completion time takes between 10-20 hrs
Welcome to Torna The Golden Country
it is still funny to me that lora and jins fighting style, which later is kinda standard for drivers and blades, is born cause they were broke
It's hilarious I love that
oh daaaamn I didnt think it would be this soon.
HELL YEAH, FINALLY. Our guy is about to experience emotional damage
Adam is such a goofy goober. He basically has the power to wipe out entire continents in his hands, yet off he goes getting chummy with a group of broke stangers who adopted a random child from some scorched ruins. And we all love him for it.
I was expecting F you to be said every single time Jin showed up but I guess it didn't.
Man, I can't wait to wash this!, it's been a long time coming! :)
I'll give my opinion after I watch the video.
FINALLY!!!!! I’ve been waiting patiently!!
I’ve rewatched the xc2 twice to hold me over. I really enjoy your commentary and your content. THANK YOU!!
Haze is so adorable
Yep...good thing nothing happens to her.
Have tissues on hand, you're gonna need them.
And I don't mean because of Mythra's thighs.
I was told it's an upgraded version of the same engine used for base Xeno 2
I’m right behind you man lol about to do the same
With my track record you’ll most likely finish before me😂
As a guy who has bought Torna 3 seperate times you could say I'm mildy excited for this. Finally found the physical editon of thia game last week maybe I'll play alongside you
What reason would you have to get Torna 3 times?
Mikhail in the base game: 500 years old and still living with his dad (and also picked up his dad's accent along the way, replacing his native one).
(Or maybe it was just puberty and he did recognize her, but not how beautiful she was.)
As for the personality change, I've heard that it's likely thanks to Milton telling him to keep smiling.
finaly it feelt like etirnaty
10,000 years in fact.
LET'S GOOOOO
Alternate names for the DLC:
Trauma: The Broken Country
Everybody Hates Mythra
Two Zesty Boys
A Series of Unfortunate Events
The writers 100% knew you were going into this with all the trepidation you're displaying, and played with that intentionally. It's brilliant.
Good luck with the side content. It's massive. Not as much as the base game by far, but you're looking at probably a good 60 hours. And it's all fun, imho.
16:58 adam's face is somehow reminding me of gizmo duck.
We re so back!
Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions in this DLC 👀 They also sadly roast Mythra a lot in this game as you noticed in 21:41 lol
I'm still watching the video so I apologize if you already said something or read in the comments about it, just a tip; make sure to complete the side quests along the way since they will be mandatory later, so you can enjoy the story without interruptions! 😊
11:00 I was like "please don't say it, please don't say it" and then you said it.
17:17 I again notice the jiggle physics somehow. How am I so good at this?
I mentioned before in the finale that Malos was born from Amalthus' destructive desires, but had lived for over 500 years and developed into his own person, even if he did come to the same conclusion as Amalthus in his own way.
Here you see prime douchebag Malos before all that who is just enjoying the evil.
19:27 that stare from Mythra
I hope you enjoy A Moment of Eternity when you get to the credits. It's my favourite song ever and super intrinsic to the story of Torna
You love to see it!
23:00 is that Django Django playing in the background it's hard to heard but I keep hearing thay song after I started playing GG Xrd. Edit: yesh that definitely is hearing it in later pauses great music choice
AYE! A Guilty Gear fan! I love the music in those games and Django Django is perfect chill music imo
The blue people are called Indoline
19:09 If you can notice, sorry for spoiling, Addam and Mythra don’t share Myhtra’s sword, Addam uses his own. Lora and Jin use the style the base game is familiar with and EVERY driver uses the concept of sharing the Blade’s weapon. I won’t outright say it, but Lora and Jin may have shaped Alrest’s history
YESSIR WE GOT TORNA BABY!
Something worth noting is that you can review tutorials also you will have to do side quests but there is something special for doing them all
This is the story that made me love Xenoblade 2 even more.
