We have partial responsibility when we know what we are choosing, but we often don’t know. The focus is because the supplier was a physician who knew better, who saw the effects on Matthew and did it anyway. As a physician, he is legally responsible for the death. He needs to be removed from practice of medicine, disciplined by AMA and held criminally responsible. He had a special obligation to protect patients, including Matthew and apparently other patients who were harmed.

There's also a small difference here. His official COD was drowning. So, it wasn't the OD that killed him. The drugs made him unconscious and then he drowned. Meaning, if he wasn't sitting in his pool and was instead sitting inside on a couch, he most likely wouldn't have died.

People are complaining that non-celebrities would not have gotten this attention, and yet the authorities did say that they have been investigating many other cases. Yes, those cases won't be covered in the media to this level ... but shouldn't this coverage be considered a good thing? It is putting unscrupulous doctors and drug dealers on notice that they, too could get caught if they continue this behavior. I, for one am glad Matthew Perry's story is being publicized in this way, and I'm glad these criminals are forced out into the open for all to see.

It’s answering a question the public is widely interested regarding someone the public had a fondness for. When drug addicts die from overdose on skid row, there isn’t the same loss felt by the public because they didn’t know them and there is virtually no question how it happened. This is not to say, the authorities don’t tirelessly work to investigate and prosecute the drug rings responsible. Imagine if they were to give press conferences like this for every homeless drug addict that overdoses. We be asking why the same story is constantly being repeated on the news every day all day. It would leave no room for anything else and serve no purpose.

At least this highlights the danger in substituting one drug for another regarding trying to become clean from drugs. SPOILER ALERT: The substitution method does not work and does not count as being clean. How was Perry to overcome addition by using another highly additive drug? The premise is ludicrous.
