- Trench Town Kingston Jamaica The birthplace of Reggae Music
After visiting the Culture Yard, I walked down 1st Street with our tour guide
This seven-block plus, public housing scheme known as Trench Town, was built in the 1940’s as an affordable place for a transplanted rural population.
It became home to a family of musicians, poised to change the face of world music.
We turned north on West Rd with an informational sign showing the legends of 1st Street: The Wailing Wailers - Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh; Wailing Souls - Winston ‘Pipe’ Mathews, Lloyd ‘Pipe’ McDonald, George ‘Buddy’ Haye; Vincent ‘Tata’ Ford
Paintings of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Alton Ellis, Marcus Garvey, Massive Dread, Martin Luther King and Haile Selassie
We then turned on to 2nd Street
At the end of 2nd Street we turn north on Collie Smith Drive and then walk west on 3rd Street
At the corner of 5th Street and West Rd is Trench Town SDA Basic School and Trench Town Seventh Day Adventist Temple
We walk along 5th Street and then turn south on Collie Smith Drive with Boys Town across
Collie Smith Outstanding Cricketer Statue
I wonder if Jamaicans know just how influential to the world they are? Like do they know how loved their country is, their people? God Bless Jamaica and her beautiful people!
I couldn’t agree more
They must in Trenchtown- considering these signs on every corner which invite tourists to walk through their neighborhood. Just my opinion but I think they should take the signs down to give less incentive for tourists to be invasive..
@yumyumbumblebee yeah they should just stay poor because it's keeps them authentic
This is where i was born and lived until I was about 13 years old. 1 lower second street Kingston 12. Cutty was nice with the ital stew. Hurricane Gilbert blew down the breadfruit tree in our back yard back in 1988. I will never forget Trench-town.
Thank you for your memories
Bidi bidi bong bong !🐭🇯🇲
Would love to see Jamaica 🇯🇲 one of these good days THE FATHER sends...beautiful country
Most people vacation at a coastal resort but visiting Kingston is a real treat
I agree with you@@MountainsOfTravel
I would love to help the poor people in Jamaica.
Poor? They are rich in love like no others. Go check it out.
Our family left Trench town in 1964, because Wilton Gardens ( Rema) was being developed and we assumed our block would be included. Imagine after all this time and several virtual trips on Google Earth, to realize that the place has not been touched. Excepting that " Hogsh*t Lane was made into part of Third Street. I gotta go have a look!
Awesome video bro. Thanks for showing the birth place of Bob Marley. Watching from Barbados
I thought his birthplace is st. Anna
@@gipsybulldog3286 You are right. Bob Marley was born in Nine Mile, St. Ann. He came to Trenchtown, when he was twelve.
@@ullix4994 NO! HE CAME TO TRENCH TOWN AS A TEENAGER. ASK RAS CARDO FROM TRENCH TOWN WHO IS STILL WITH US. HE HAS THE DETAILED TRUE HISTORY AND MORE. HE CREATED REGGAE, AND WAS A TEACHER OF BOB MARLEY AND OTHERS.
Thanks for the nostalgic stroll down memory lane. You however left out two notables from Fifth Street. Gladstone Robinson, (Collis' brother) who played cricket for Boy's Town & Jamaica and KSAC Councillor Walker.
Thank you for the additional names
THE CULTURE YARD THEY NOW HAVE WAS JUST THE YARD BOB USED TO BE AT MOST OF THE TIMES, BUT THE REAL CULTURE YARD WAS BEHIND RAS CARDO HOUSE. IT HAD A SPECIAL NAME. RAS CARDO HAS ALL THOSE DETAILS IN HIS COPYRIGHTED WORKS.
Very interesting - thank you for the info
I love this video, I saw 4th Street, Memories of my birthplace

Damn u showed more of the billboards than the walk down the street
I thought it was important to show all the legends who grew up in Trench Town
Anthoney Doyley aka 'Knowledge' grew up in Trench Town but NOT a mention of him or his home.
@@MountainsOfTravel, see my comment above.
All that bill board is foolish people still live there and no investment no development nor money collecting to building the community out of poverty.
It look a lot like Africa
Yes it does
Trust me, only the ghettos look like this.
@@MountainsOfTravel Which African Country does it look like?
What tour company did you use?
I managed the trip myself
@MountainsOfTravel so you went there by yourself no tour guide?
Correct

@@MountainsOfTravel YOU ARE MISSING OUT A LOT OF PEOPLE. SO MUCH MORE. I HAVE THE DETAIL NAMES AND CENSUS.
