    just leave it stock. take it from someone that did everything the right way modding and getting it dyno'd. it may last for a while but compared to stock, it wont last. enjoy it for what it is. you want a lot of power buy a v8.

    Pro tune pro tune pro tuneee. These cars are reliable stock but the instant you start messing with more than a cat back you risk the engine going boom. My 18 has a bunch done to it including injectors and fuel system and has not given me a single problem for the past 7k miles. All installed and protuned at 1500 miles. Those cobb ots tunes are only good at 0 elevation areas and really should only be flashed to get you to a good tuner. Overall the car is fantastic and im glad you’re loving it!

      Luno Zorrobo not tru my blobeye has 125k been running Cobb Ots stage 2 since 70k car runs great actually the Cobb tunes generally run richer tables for safety reasons and don’t produce the power you can get from custom tune

    No hate at all man fantastic car I have an RA myself. I just don't understand how you modify your car, and then wonder why its making a weird noise. The problem that I see with most STI owners is they replace everything on the car, then wonder why it doesn't sound or ride the same.

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  5 лет назад +5

      Yea you're right, but in my case I wouldn't say I'm wondering whats wrong. The cold weather + an exhaust = definitely a rattle or two. That's all it takes, and that's usually where people start with mods, a simple catback. The STI has a deep bass exhaust note too, so mod at your own risk.

      TS Pro8 as a mitsubishi owner, I would take a 17 wrx over a RA. SST on the RA/ Evo MR arent the strongest and require new clutches to hold over 350ish wtq. They are also $10k+ if you ever blow it. And ontop of all that, you dont get a third pedal to really bring out the enjoyment of driving a performance car.

    Great video and love your scooby in red. We don’t get that colour choice here in the UK. Personally, I’d stay away from the cobb AP. Get a custom tune from a professional tuner using ECUTEK software. Every car is different and a stunning car like yours should only have a custom tune, tailored to your driving behaviours, fuel of choice and mods. 👍

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  5 лет назад

      Thank you. And I wasn't aware of red not being an option in the UK, that's interesting. You're right though, in the future I'll probably go to a reputable tuner and have something custom done. The Cobb maps are meant to be universal, but depending on ones location - climate, altitude, weather, etc., may not work well with the default Cobb tune.

  • @cmiovino
    @cmiovino 5 лет назад +2

    Yep, a disconnection will do it with the ECU/PCM when flashing the base tune on. Always keep all the doors closed, don’t forget with any windows or electronics. Only takes a minute or two to finish.
    Not Cobb’s fault or Subaru’s. Just a goof up. Usually though the PCM just ‘bricks’ and the car won’t start at all.

  • @miker7851
    @miker7851 5 лет назад +2

    I had the exact same thing, P0018 code, but on 100% stock '17 WRX. Subaru replaced the cam sprocket and PCM. So I don't think it was related to your tune, probably just a coincidence. Be glad you found it early because in my case I drove around for a year and a half wondering why the motor wouldn't spin above 4500 rpm, and that fixed it.

    • @defaultdaniel

    i got a better 1 year review. Car's steering is very responsive, 14 year old engine but still giving a good run to cars on the 40-50K range. the bad? the car stock is not very impressive, driving in city traffic for 10 minutes and good bye doing pulls (car gets so heat soaked that it feels very heavy and slow) i started noticing a few rattles here and there about 7 months in. other than those issues i'd say the car is a solid purchase. I've always wanted to own an STI and when opportunity came I pulled the trigger before the "appropriate age" to own one goes out the window.

    The body style looks too much like a family car, turned into a sports car. It’s not even part of the Impreza line anymore, so you’d assume a WRX would look sporty. • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  5 лет назад

      The ringland issue isnt really a problem anymore. On earlier models, especially 12-14 it popped up a handful of times. Since then subaru changed the tuning and a few other small things that make it very rare on new models. I even asked this to the main subaru tech and advisor at my dealer and was told they rarely see it happen. They said if anything, they see rod knock, which is from people not doing oil changes / not monitoring oil levels properly.

    • @bcprm
      @bcprm 5 лет назад

      @@bcprm People always take a little issue and blow it out of proportion, especially if they're jealous / not into the cars. 95% of people don't know shit, but simply regurgitate information they heard somewhere. Just run 93 oct always, keep on top of your oil changes and levels, and watch the tune. Don't add something like a cold air intake.

    • @bcprm

    • @defaultdaniel

      @@bcprm Honestly, I wouldn't risk it. I read a in depth technical review on the new STI / STI RA, and the techs quoted that they noticed a decent amount of knock / engine pinging / predetonation on 91 oct vs 93 oct. The owner's manual calls for 93 oct. Anything lower than that and it will adjust the air / fuel ratios and although it will run seemingly fine, it could be a long term issue.

I would say I've had the Cobb AP on the car for almost a year now give or take and it's been fine. Hopefully that was the last of your problems with the car for a while. I love all these people saying "dont get Cobb, they destroy your engine, blah blah blah" but what do I know.

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  5 лет назад +1

      That's good to know, thanks. And I know, a lot of people think they have the "correct" answer, but truth be told, a Cobb tune will suffice 95% of the time, especially if you follow the correct octane levels / corresponding mods you need for a chosen map. I'm going to tune it again, but instead of using the downpipe and going stage 2, I will just add in the intake and go stage 1+. It seems that offers more HP anyway, just slightly less torque. When I was flashing my Evo with the Cobb AP, I don't think you were allowed to open the doors, put up/down the windows, etc. Did your communication issue occur from maybe simply opening the door?
    This was years ago though. Maybe you can do that during a flash now.

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  5 лет назад

      My door was open, as I was trying to clean up as it flashed. From what I've read this could definitely effect it. Just bad timing on my part. I'll do it again in the near future with the door shut, the cable in a safe position, and everything off.

    @danielmurillo4992 5 лет назад

    Yeah all that happened because your accesport lost connection while it was flashing it screwed up your pcm.. idk if you upgraded your fuel system components but these cars will not last long on stage 2 with stock Injecotes and fuel pump as those components are pretty much maxed out already the way the car comes.. do fine research before going stage 2 there are supporting mods required when installing a downpipe and intake alot of people will tell you "My CaR RuNs PeRfEcTlY FiNe BrO" but dont listen to them....

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  5 лет назад

      Yea exactly, even the slighest disconnect will screw up the flash. And for stage 2, once you go "stage 2+" and add anything more than a catted downpipe or tune, you're definitely risking it. A lot of people throw in an intake and think its part of stage 2, then wind up throwing their a/f ratios and blowing up their engines 20k miles later. Personally I wouldn't add more than the catted downpipe and tune for stage 2, and definitely leave the air intake system stock. I'm sure even this is close to pushing the injector limit, but it's definitely safer than changing the intake on top of everything also.

      I believe Carbotech makes the 1521 compound for the 18+ STIs. I've used them on previous cars and dust is pretty low in quantity, although I am not sure if the lighter coloring is more noticeable on the STIs darker wheels. Overall performance is just stellar...great temp range, good cold bite, very rotor friendly.

      Do the math or google turbo car performance in the summer vs. in the winter. Cold air is much more dense than warm, so the turbo runs more efficiently and maintains boost better. Therefore, timing stays normal and you rarely lose power. In the summer however, most stock turbo cars with small intercoolers w be noticeably slower.
