Ofra Haza, you gave the world so much. You gave a singular range of voice and range of expression. Better to celebrate the gifts you brought us than to mourn your absence.
Israeli pop star Ofra Haza, famous for her haunting voice and blending of Middle Eastern and western music styles, has died aged 42. The singer died from massive organ failure after being in intensive care in Tel Aviv's Tel Hashomer hospital for 13 days. R.I.P! I didnt know :( Im glad i got to hear her music from Prince of Egypt at the time she was still alive! She had a wonderful voice! God Bless her soul! We will never forget you Ofra!
Ofra Haza's paths and mine have been crossing two times; one in Oslo and one in Israel; - and I did not do an effort to meet her; but how could I know that that young woman was to leave us; I thought there would be plenty of time for encounter. Well, her spirit is strong and present; but it is a difference, anyway.
The lyrics are very sad, but is a fabulous song, specially because the life of million women in Middle East, Africa and Asia. Ofra sing like a godness.
For such a morbid subject, this is such a nice song! Ofra's gorgeous voice, Iggy's silky smooth voiceover, and the groovy beat come together in a beautiful way. On the whole, the song itself transcends its own subject and theme.
Well said, humans seem to have forgotten the fact that we are all the same species,no matter what the ethnicity, orientation, religion...to much hate in the world
does it really matter where we come from or what color we r...shouldn't the music bring us all together...i remember ofra when i was a child...and i loved her song im nin alu...i didnt care if she is jewish or arabic...i love her and her music she was a great artist and will never be fogoten...R.I.P Ofra....
Dans la mesure où cela ne dépend que de moi, je ne peux pas commencer une année par entendre une autre voix que celle d'Ofra! "Daw da Hiya" était ma préférée, rien de plus logique que ce soit celle que je choisisse!
tks god i can understand 6 languages ,but yemani accent so strong for me even i can speak most of arabic accents, she knows how to play with the words in her way, i mean her prononciation its so special
Loving is a crime not only in ancient times - its happening all over the world today. Sad but true - no change under the sun. Great song and beautiful rendition.
Ofra Haza,....a VERY BEAUTIFUL girl with such a BEAUTIFUL voice,....luvin' this and all her songs, and this from somebody who didn't know about her until,....TODAY! Thumbs up to gil1111 and thankin' my buddy Ossama for sharin' 'You', 'Yerushalayim' and this song, truly MAGNIFICENT!!! = D
@pplrliving The song's story is about yemeni girl in the 1930s her name is "DawDaHiy" also it's the name Tribe that the girl belong to which is a Yemeni tribe! :)
So many have been murdered because of the laws... I wonder how many hypocrites have thrown the first stones,or drowned,or knifed the woman or girl accused and have gotten away with rape, molestation or because they knew someone who would help them out if they denounced the woman/ girl!!??
thankyou shathab for that. i didn't realize there was a real history on that. :D thank you for posting that. :D as a belly dancer i would love to preform this song. :D
i did have a mini disc cd single of her song im nin alu which aparently got lost but thanx to youtube for my memories gt afresh...please post the song "mathar" by indian vibes...thank you.
@lonishar As an American woman to you and your Saudi friend, I hope one day all women can realize the rightful and equal place we ALL deserve. It may seem to many that we are a bit closer in the western world, but we do still have to deal with sexism and we're still unequal in many ways that men do not, probably cannot, understand. Much love and luck to my sisters around the world. We shall overcome! (One fine day.)
Ofra Haza, you gave the world so much. You gave a singular range of voice and range of expression. Better to celebrate the gifts you brought us than to mourn your absence.

Daw da hiya, I don't know if that's a real figure or fable, but the song seems to be based on "Dawdachiya/دودحية" a folk yemeni song.
