Hi guys....Must tell you - I'm not sure if you realized how VERY helpful this is. Not sure why, but the whole packing/shipping section of doing this business is somewhat of a speed bump for newbies. The way you explain little details REALLY HELPS. It's not exciting, it's not sexy, it's not fun - but lord knows it's necessary and having someone with knowledge and patience is just more help than you probably know. I guess I'm trying to say.....THANK YOU!! LOL
Expended Tape Core: I keep a few of the empty tape rolls around and use them to protect delicate protrusions on items, such as the head of the Giant Build a Fig, which I noticed you put extra bubble on his head. Just adds some extra help keeping the delicate part of the box edge. I’ve also used them to put ring boxes and loose accessories (and similar sized items) inside the core with a bit of bubble.
Love the packing videos. Doing these every so often, especially when you have odd stuff to pack, would be awesome. You two are by far my favorite RUclips flippers to watch.
lol Those glass cups should stay there forever, always makes me laugh. Anyway, loved the video! Just wanted to say thank you, I have been watching for a while now, and have learned a lot about both sourcing and shipping from you two. Thank you for all you do.
1hour 30 😮 great video Lonnie and Candice 😊 must say Lonnie not only you are a packaging pro you also do a great running commentary all the way through which is not easy 👏👏👏👏👏💪
Book Set Pack Void Fill: when I use paper void fill on the 4 corners of a square item, like the book set, I roll up the crumple paper, but center each piece on a corner, rather then along the side. Often, the carrier damages the corner points of the outer box in transit, so I like the voids in the corners protected more. If you put 4 pieces centered along the edges, the corners often do get as much as they can take.
I hope you understand at how much help this video truly is. I’m starting to get into reselling and shipping is the one thing that confuses me the most so far. I know I’m doing mostly clothes, but it still helps me understand what type of packaging for the different items/ routes of shipping. Thank you so much.
I just bought that tape dispenser. I LOVE IT. I got the 3 inch but just run 2 inch in it - works great. Very much worth it but dang that edge is sharp.
Hey, Candice and Lonnie! I really enjoy your videos. I watched every minute of this one. The packing tips and tricks are awesome, and for reasons I don't fully understand, it was very relaxing to watch. 😃Keep 'em coming!
Hi Lonnie and Candice. I love when you have a packing segment on your show, so this one was a real treat. I always learn some tricks and tips from you in packing and maybe I can return the favor. I do the whole resizing thing like you do, I even have the same tools (I bought a resizer from your back in the day). My tip is that when you are scoring a box, rather than drawing a line on the package, then freehand the scoring, you can skip a step and be more accurate at the same time. Use your straight edge as a guide and just put the roller wheel right on the edge and you will save a few seconds each time, which, as we all know adds up. Mike from NY
Thank you so much for making this comprehensive tutorial on packing - I didn't move the entire time. I learned so much about resizing (didn't know you could resize Priority boxes like that), as well as tips on where to find supplies. This reselling business is so complex at first. I have a barn full of "stuff" I have collected over the years and now that I am retired it's time to sell it. Good thing I saved bubble wrap, boxes, paper, etc. too right? Keep up the good work, your videos mean a lot to us out here!
Only thing better would be to do one live, then maybe Candice could take any questions. Just at an hour in, learning a lot, super helpful. I told my husband it's like hanging out with friends only neither of us have a beer and we can't have a conversation 😂? We need to get in Grainger about sponsoring or something, I'm headed there next week, gearing up for 4tg quarter. Thanks Lonnie!
Hey Cathy, I don't think there are any sponsorship opportunities from Grainger but that's ok, I'm just glad we found another good supplier. Their boxes and paper are pretty awesome. Maybe we will do something live in the future, haven't really done anything like that for a long time. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
For funko pops, when Gamestop gets them they come in little individual form-fitting cardboard boxes that are perfect for safe shipping. You can usually either ask them directly for those boxes or check their dumpster for good clean ones.
I love to watch you pack! I've been reselling for 5 years and I still learn. Plus it's very relaxing to watch you as you explain everything. I agree with everything. It's so important to pack better than necessary! But I hate packing. I hate it... Thanks for your great videos and sharing your lives with us all.
Music Reel Pack: I sometimes like to roll the excess bubble wrap over hang towards the reel end and tape it. It makes about a 4 -6 layer rounded bumper for the ends, helping the bubbles up item float in the center of the box.
I get the flat lay packing paper at Walmart maybe they still carry it by you. I use a priority shoe box and stand the paper up in it. You can just grab 1 sheet from the center and it takes about the same room as a roll.
I am really enjoying the roll kind, it's nice being able to customize the size. It's way way cheaper too. That is good to know though. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
You’re completely right. I don’t remember the last time I went to UPS since ground advantage was lunched! UPS does have the advantage when it comes to shipping golf clubs!
I love that you guys have so much fun together! I wish I could get my husband to join me in my thrifting side hustle. Keep sharing your finds, see you in Punxsutawney!
Thank you, Lonnie, for this very informative packing video. I learned so much just by watching you today. I learned what size boxes to keep on hand and some tricks of the trade. Thanks again for making this video for us to watch.
Lonnie if y9u got some galvanized pipe and mount it to the bench vertically you could slip the paper roll down over it and it wouldn't slide around on you but you could still pull Paper off in strips.
That's an interesting idea and definitely a candidate. I'm also considering mounting it to the wall so I don't take up precious bench space. Not sure yet. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
I loved this video, the packing was always the most intimidating part of reselling for me, and seeing how you do it and hearing why as you do it makes me think, “I could do that, too!”
Hi Lonnie, I’m also a reseller and this video sure did help with resizing boxes. Now I’ll have to get some of those tools from your Amazon links. Thanks man! 🍻
Love your packing videos. You can get priority mail stickers to use on regular boxes. Your camcorder going to Florida just needed a few priority stickers. Thanks for all your content
I came here to say the same thing. I figured Lonnie already knew and he meant he overpaid because he used his own box but wanted to specify for those that might not have gotten that from the video. I have three rolls of priority stickers on standby 😉 because sometimes they just don't have a priority box that is either strong enough or remotely the right size for an item.
How do they use those exactly? Does that help them sort? I really don't know how that works, I guess I figured they had some kind of scanner that would sort by reading the labels. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
@@shedflips you can just ship Priority without the stickers but my post office told me to order them because sometimes it will end up sorted wrong or get missed and delay shipping. I put one on each side. They are in the free section when you order boxes from USPS. Thank you for all of your content.
I used to use empty tape rolls to ship jewelry, but I bet they'd protect small items of other sorts too. better still, they're free! They were great for smaller bangles and pins, but any small glass bits would like it too. Edge on they're pretty well crush-proof; trust the USPS to put that to the test, but it's essentially double-boxing without a box.
You should know by now that talking is not a problem for me lol, I wonder how many total words I've said now. Thanks for watching Wayne, as always - Lonnie
Clothing Shape Boxes (1095, 1097, Med Flat Alternate, etc): often, when I void fill a Clothing Box for a thin item, I will do the small bubble, as you did, then wrap it in 1 layer of Large Bubble, taping the edges into a “bulge”, then slide it in. The full wrap of Large Bubble does a quick job of centering (and protecting) it on all 6 sides.
I deliver for Canada Post and this video was awesome! "It's not a secret ... its a box!" cracked me up! And good job, wow! I'm not going to lie, stuff gets bashed around a lot unfortunately as much as we try hard to avoid it! Overpacking is a good thing!
Thor Comic Pack: when my bubble is over the open sides, like the comic, I like to “tuck” one of the bubble overlaps in, around the edge and bring the second edge up with a small piece of tape the center. It double bubbles each edge and bulges out the bubble at the 4 corners, creating something of a bumper.
When you wrapped the size small dog bee costume. I noticed you did not tape up the sides of the poly bag after you folded it in half. Heads up .. I had one come back opened (missing contents) because I did not tape down the sides.
Kraft Paper Bubble Mailers: years ago, I started with the paper coated bubble mailers, but have since shifted to the newer style ((like the eBay branded style) because they hold up better to any rain or snow encountered in transit or packages left on door stoops. The cost is a bit more, but it’s one of the items I use my eBay coupon to get.
Here's my opinion on the Kraft bubble mailers. First, I agree with everything you said. My experience - I've yet to encounter a time where someone complained about their item getting wet in one of them. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen and maybe I've just been lucky. The reason I usually prefer the Kraft kind is they are much "sturdier". As ridiculous as that may sound. They are much stronger, especially against edge strikes. The poly bubble mailer offer almost no crush protection at all imo, aside from the bubbles. The Kraft ones do. I have no proof to back any of that up, it's just my line of thinking. Appreciate you taking the time to expose people that watch to your viewpoints. -Lonnie
@@shedflips Lonnie, thanks for the quick response. Packing/Shipping videos are among my favorite and your running monolog was a great way to show your process. Makes me feel like I'm in the shed having a conversation with you. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so rain is often an issue. Many of our carriers leave incoming packages around the property randomly, even out in the rain. So, if inbounds get wet, I worry about outbounds, especially to the snow belt. haven't pulled the pin on it yet but Staples sells some shipping boxes I use a lot like 8x6x4/10x8x6 and their pricing looks similar to Grainger or Supply Hut and have free delivery on orders over $25. Grainger is 30 min away for me so I'm on the fence
Ok, so for someone that is starting out and needs to purchases boxes for shipping, what sizes would you suggest purchasing and keeping on hand all the time? I am selling everything I own and then some. Books, dvds, clothing, shoes, glassware, art work, comic books and so on….thank you. My husband and I have been watching Lonnie for the past four years and now I watch and thoroughly enjoy watching such an awesome husband/wife team, I learn so much from your videos. Thank you for always sharing so much information. Debbie
Good tip on paying little extra for priority and using USPS box vs ground and your own box. Hard to keep a supply of each size for ground, plus most of us have a big supply of USPS boxes.
Thanks, kinda have to consider that now since I am using so many of my own boxes. Ground advantage is a whole new way of thinking about shipping. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
I never see you using air pillows as filler. People have saved a bunch for me and I find I’m using them more than I thought. They do take up space but I know there is a machine that makes then on demand too.
This video had me thinking how everyone applies bubble wrap meaning, bubbles facing product or bubbles facing away from product. I usually put bubbles facing product. Is there really a correct way?
😊 Hi Lonnie and Candice! Just curious. . . After pulling all of your orders and placing them on the bench, where do you move them to so that you have the room to start packing?
Lonnie, do you have a link to the thick paper on the roll that you are using to pack? Would you think it is thick enough if crumpled up to support glass items in place of the air pillows that seem to be out of stock everywhere?
Still watching and learning, but why take all the time to customize the size of a box instead of just finding a box that fits? Where does one find the heavy duty diamond boxes?
I refused to use paper as void fill for years until I saw you using it for nutcrackers. Now I am using it and saving money! Also I am loving the $7.20 Priority Shipping & Ground Advantage.
I buy smaller boxes from Staples, they have bogo deal so boxes are cheaper than comp for me. Last time Staples have clearance on their scotch 6 pack tape, I bought over 100. So I'm alway looking out for shipping supplies as well.
Hello Lonnie and Candice. Lonnie it is almost like you need a up right heavy duty paper towel hold with a lazy Susan base. Just a thought. Thanks for the video.
I'm leaning more towards a wall mount, just because I really don't like anything that takes up bench space while I'm packing. I'll try and get it done soon. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
On the comic book. Couldn't you just have mailed it in the box flat like a envelope with a couple pieces of cardboard on each side to make it stronger?
That would have probably made it, I wanted to make damn sure that slab didn't get cracked though. I'm admittedly a bit of an overpacker though. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
Ground advantage is not only losing UPS business it's increasing our business. Buyers see cheaper insured shipping and are more likely to buy. I've moved about 1/3 of my inventory to Ground Advantage and have seen good results.
I love it so far, I hope it stays good like it has been. Curious to see how the holiday rush affects delivery times. So far so good though. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
I will try to remember to add it but the paper comes from Grainger supply. We don't have an affiliate link or anything for them. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
Lonnie...corrugated box expert! Should have been a box designer...:-). You are right the corrugated medium in inner wall of the double wall is stiff and rigid due to fiber and heated starch glue and will crack if scored and broken apart.
Diane the MyGo2 tape does not have a quiet version at least not yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they add it at some point because I have seen a lot of people request it. I do not know regarding Grainger shipping, we have only done pickup so far. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
Yeh I was kind of thinking about that too, not sure where I will land on those. I might use enough of the 12x12x4 to make it not matter. Definitely something to consider.

So, what would be the reason you couldnt have used the other half of the 12x12x12 box for the funko pops?
Enjoyed the packing!
This was a great video! If you don’t mind me asking, where do you purchase all of you boxes?
I never see you using air pillows as filler. People have saved a bunch for me and I find I’m using them more than I thought. They do take up space but I know there is a machine that makes then on demand too.
Mujhe lagta hai ki itni chhoti cheej ke packing ki ye first video hai jisme kaphi sandar tarike se samjhaya gya hai 👍👍
Love the video!
Informative and entertaining! Thank You!
Loving the video great tutorial
Thanks Kirsten :) - Lonnie
This is very helpful video 👍
Where do you get your boxes from? What size boxes do you typically carry on hand? Thank you!
This video had me thinking how everyone applies bubble wrap meaning, bubbles facing product or bubbles facing away from product. I usually put bubbles facing product. Is there really a correct way?
Wow pack pack. Huggers 😊
Thanks for watching! - Lonnie
I think this is the longest Shed Flips video we’ve gotten yet!
I think it just might be, not counting some old live streams or something. Thanks for watching! - Lonnie
Oh my God that's brilliant.
I refused to use paper as void fill for years until I saw you using it for nutcrackers. Now I am using it and saving money! Also I am loving the $7.20 Priority Shipping & Ground Advantage.
I have like 40 listings up and only 2 sales but I’m worried to buy cards to flip bc I’m so worried about losing money any tips so ik it will
I buy smaller boxes from Staples, they have bogo deal so boxes are cheaper than comp for me.
Could you please share your source for the paper you use for shipping? Please!
Grainger - if you have one local you can order on their app then pick it up once it comes in. So no shipping cost.
I was under the impression you couldn't modify the USPS priority box. Good to know you can.
One caveat - don't modify the flat rate boxes. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
Yes ...that was a nice packing
Ground advantage is not only losing UPS business it's increasing our business. Buyers see cheaper insured shipping and are more likely to buy. I've moved about 1/3 of my inventory to Ground Advantage and have seen good results.
I love it so far, I hope it stays good like it has been. Curious to see how the holiday rush affects delivery times. So far so good though. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
I enjoy watching you pack but the open box cutter drives my OCD off the charts. Great content!!!
very helpful!
Thanks for watching - Lonnie
HAHA Candice LOVE your shirt. If you know you know!
Do you have a link for the rolls of paper?
I will try to remember to add it but the paper comes from Grainger supply. We don't have an affiliate link or anything for them. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
Lonnie...corrugated box expert! Should have been a box designer...:-). You are right the corrugated medium in inner wall of the double wall is stiff and rigid due to fiber and heated starch glue and will crack if scored and broken apart.
That cracking sound they make is terrible, I try not to do it. Thanks for watching! - Lonnie
Are you working on FBM or wholesale or PL?
Do you know if the tape comes in a quiet tape? Also, does grainger charge shipping on larger orders? I can't find what their shipping would be.
Diane the MyGo2 tape does not have a quiet version at least not yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they add it at some point because I have seen a lot of people request it. I do not know regarding Grainger shipping, we have only done pickup so far. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
You ever thought about gluing a super nonslip pad underneath your desktop tape dispenser?
I should do something, it's got suction cups which aren't really that great. Thanks for watching - Lonnie
IMO do 12x12x6 or 8 instead of 4. You can always do a little shrinking but you can't make the box bigger.
Yeh I was kind of thinking about that too, not sure where I will land on those. I might use enough of the 12x12x4 to make it not matter. Definitely something to consider.
