I was not expecting THAT to happen, it caught me off guard honestly. I barely started this chapter and I feel like I'm in for an even more wild ride next episode.

for better or worse, japanese culture is very much collectivistic, selfless and honor-oriented, so it shouldn't be surprising. I actually think it makes sense with the themes of the story itself so far too, we've seen what happens when characters split up and become self-centered. when it happened to Naomi getting pessimistic, Seiko ended up dead, when it happened to Morishige wandering alone, he ended up unknowingly watching Mayu's corpse. it's pretty clear why that is a bad choice, even if an understandable one. on the other hand, we've also seen what happens when it's the opposite, Mayu sympathized too much too soon with the children spirits and that didn't work out in her favor.
