  • The Union Pacific Railroad Geneva Subdivision is an N Scale model train layout in its 11 year of construction. The layout is built for operations with many fun ops session successfully completed and many more yet to come. In addition to realistic model train operations, the layout strives to follow the actual Union Pacific as prototypical as possible.
This episode is an Operations Video on the Union Pacific Railroad Geneva Subdivision. Depicted are Global III yard crew operations that involve movement of cars from the classification tracks and the load.unload tracks. These operations are in addition to regular work adding and removing cars from trains that enter and depart Global III.

Daryl,There are 2 Intermodal trains that pass through Southern California each day. B.N.S.F. All J.B.Hunt containers. The U.P. train is all green containers, E.M.P. or Hub Group. The containers on this train are all in blocks. E.M.P. at the front end Hub at the rear. No mixing. It's come all the way from Chicago. On line wags refer to it as the " Green Machine" or the white wall and green wall. Mosetly Intermodal trains are a mixture of containers. Sometimes I think you could turn the study of Intermodal trains in to a hobby all by itself. Cheers, Chris Perry.

Global 3 located south of Joilet, Illinois? I heard that they were going to close this intermodal hub? I love intermodal operations! I'm planning on building a large container yard/trailer yard auto rack yard on my future layout. Total yard length about 25 feet long. Big intermodal yard to supply my 18 foot long container port! I have started building a small 6 foot container ship, but I just might turn that into a full size Panamanian SuperMax container ship? A true HO size container ship is about 15.5 feet long and 2 feet wide and 1.5 feet tall, I believe! 3 or 4 2 foot tall container cranes will be built to load/unload the ship.

The reason some trains are mixed and others blocked, is because of either the boat that brought them: some ships will bring containers from other companies’ inventory as the shipper only had those cans available, or because they had a few hot containers that needed to go and they just combined those well cars with other consists.

Just a heads up, I dont believe BNSF has full exclusivity for JB Hunt movement. I live in Cincinnati and just shot a large CSX intermodal last week that was majority JB Hunt containers running thru Northern Kentucky and have seen them running in the area for a couple years. Maybe its because we have a major JB Hunt hub in the area?
But I have been looking for months for JB Hunt Containers with no luck to go with my NS/CSX layout. I just want a couple. So I will definitely be paying attention to your channel more to hear if you do a giveaway. That would be awesome.

Jbhz containers on a BNSF deep well isn't out of the question. How's this for realism? Jbhz containers on a trailer chassis (jbhz chassis are usually found under jbhz containers for the following reason) on spine cars?
(Don't forget the ups trailers and Schneider, too)
Although BNSF originates the logistics of a move, the container (s) can move on any pool (foreign or BNSF) car, with that car being trip leased (itx) by BNSF for the duration of the move (f-y-i).
A 1¢ thought that has 2¢ tax tacked on.

JBHunts can and are only JBHunts. The box is the same size but the front and back pin holes are set closer to the corner of the box they call it wideset pins.
And the tunnel is narrower as well. When you have a chance tape measure out the JBHunt bare chassis.
You'll see what I mean. And they scrap their boxes like UPS does they don't resell like the others do.

    • @jerrykinnin7941
      @jerrykinnin7941 5 лет назад +1

@@silversunlicker not sure. My guess would be got absorbed by UMAX and EMP. pay attention to all the different names on the "cans". UMAX seems to have the most variety in old names. Some I've pulled are 15yrs old and have 2 ,3 names in host on them. And don't forget about 20 ft ISO tank containers. Schineder and Quality Carriers has 40 ft tank containers. They are rare on the rail though.
When staging the boxes under the crane. 20s stack on 20s 40s and 45s can stack together 53s stack together. And the 53s at 1 rail I go to go straight to the chassis off the train. But that rail is a UPS hub. So it deals in trailers as well.
I've only seen 3 48 ft cans in 6 yrs of hauling rail freight.
And they were in the weeds in a back corner of a back corner of the rail. One rail I go to is a litteral mud hole.
      Think gravel pit/dust hole.
      Nothing stays new for long.
