The Rolling Stones are an amazing unique band, living legends and Keiths guitar was magic. Not many guitarists can fall in behind Keith and I heard a really good guitarist say he has riffs that cant even be copied, I am glad Keith is still alive.
What Nils Lofgren said: "Keith wrote two- and three-note themes that were more powerful than any great solo." That sums it up. You are right, but he is a great guitarist nonetheless.

I love Keith. I love Mick. I love Charlie (RIP). I love Bill. I love Ronnie. I love The Stones. Mick soaked me with a hose at Slane Castle in Ireland in 1982. It was a hot July day and people were dying in the heat. We waited and hour and a half for them to take the stage but it was totally worth it. What a great gig.
cahillgreg - I can remember that day like yesterday and my wife would say I still act the age I was then too! We spent the time waiting for the Stones to appear with the crowd trying desperately to knock two huge inflatable balls up the hill. 40 years certainly went by in a hurry. I’ve had a couple of other lives since. Now Charlie’s gone. And J.Giels. That was a great line-up, with George Thorogood too.
Interesting how everybody has an opinion about Keith in this situation. When you've been together for 50+ years in a band, you're bound to have issues on occasion, no "marriage" is perfect. Both Keith and Jagger can be rather full of themselves, but Keith seems like someone who stays somewhat more planted. Looking through it all, they have managed to cope with the fame, abouse and what not fairly well. So hats off to everybody involved.
I think that Keith is that grateful, public grousing aside. Really, when you get down to it, it cuts both ways with these two. As often they sometimes can't stand each other, I think they both implicitly understand how much they sometimes need each other.
There is a documentary where he plays guitar with Chuck Berry. Chuck chews Keith out. Keith just laughs and takes it. Most big rock stars would not have been there.

Say what you want about him, but he sure has got his shit together. He's been off heroin since 1982 and that's pretty amazing considering how available it is to a guy in a rock n roll band of their stature. Most addicts fall off the wagon more often than not.
pac401Most normal people don't need a pat on the back to NOT abuse heroin. Anyway, sure he's off it now but then he rolled up his father's ashes into a joint then smoked it. I don't consider that "getting your life together".
"80" was like saying "a mile long." The point being really, really old. He was never that good of a guitar player. He is a sleazebag and he needs to stop wearing the eyeliner.
Founder and boss of the stones was Ian Stewart-Period. All the stones say it, Jones did too. Even keef recalls in his book going to rehearse for Ian Stewart to get into the band that became The Rolling Stones. Ian Stewarts sudden early death hit them all hard. He was always there, in the back playing, he was the "Unknown Stone". Saw them the other night, true Legends and ICONS. All respect to them. Charlie Watts was his usual, engine driving backbone of the group. Wont be another like them.
"Midnight Rambler" is a song that Jagger performs like a virtuoso and the band backs him up beautifully during it. See it live and you'll never forget it...
What an interesting dude. I wish I could have seen them, or see them if they ever tour again. I had chance on the Steel Wheels tour in Indy, but it was sold out and street price for a decent seat was over $400. That was bottom end, and the better seats were going for $1200 or more. Same with the Pink Floyd this year. Wish I had the extra dough.
Keith is great and when he goes after Mick he just does it, kind of like when I go after my brother or he attacks me. They are who they are and will always attract a large large audience. The stones are the last of my generation but the new generation has to know them. That is their magic....
I love Keef and Mick BUT in the eighties Mick felt that the state of health of a few Stones was such that it was hard to trust them to be there. They benefitted from a hiatus. If it didn't happen the Stones would have fizzled. I'm glad they didn't as they are still a phenomenon. Come to Oz boys. I'll be there!
Stones greatest hit?!? How much of the Stones songs do you actually know? How could ever subtract any track when the Stones truely peaked? The four best albums of the the Stones, Let It Bleed, Exile On Main Street, Goat Head Soup and Sticky Fingers! Yet you came up with Little T & A? Geez Bro you really don’t know the true Stones roots
Look at the video of Under My Thumb, 1981 where the letters above the giant video screen are MIck Jagger. He thought he was above the band. He was not and is not.
Man none of ya'll haven't got it by now and never will. Keith is the best guitarists as well as being the best British secret agent the world has ever had or seen. Why do you think they do world wide tours. Being in the band is a front. Clandestine meetings in various countries. Why do you think they were the only band to play Cuba since Castro took over. Hello!!! Am I painting this picture any plainer?
Keith was a beautiful young man and now he's a beautiful old man. Kudos to him. As for the interviewer, he looks exactly like the type of guy Rolling Stone would send out to do this - the kind that lays awake WISHING he was half as cool as the Rolling Stones EVER in his life, but has to be content with just basking in their aura.
Longest text ever: It is very, very funny that you asked me to go hiking. There was a point where we were either emailing or talking about doing things where I almost said to you that you could do anything but ask me to go hiking or horseback riding and that’s exactly what you asked me to do. You have to appreciate the humor. I don’t know if I could handle the Billy Goat trail but I could give it a shot. You may wind up having to carry me, though 😉 From what I remember, if I’m thinking of the right one, it’s a bit aggressive and there are some things my level of mobility wouldn't accommodate. I’ve been in way too many car accidents over the years. The last one happened after I had been in the hospital for three weeks and was on the way to a rehab facility and got into a car accident on the way there. I wound up in a wheelchair for a year and wasn’t sure if I would walk again. It’s really funny, even when I was younger, I was kind of a klutz. I took a yoga course one time and wound up in a neck brace. And one time I took an Aikido class with my sister. It’s the coolest martial art where you learn to use your opponent’s force against them. I was learning how to do rolls and wound up tearing a ligament in my knee. And of course I wound up in a leg brace. About 10 years ago I was going to take a Krav Maga class but for some reason had a moment of sanity and realized it probably wouldn’t be a good idea for me. But I still try to stay active. I can still shake my ass all over a dance floor and I walk every day for about 45. At least I did until around June when rehab season hit. I won’t limit myself by saying I can’t do something, I’ll always have to try. And I won’t let the pain control my life either so I wind up being able to work through it, at least most of the time. But whatever we do it won’t be tomorrow. I have to go to Front Royal to tend to my garden. Thursday I’m going to Charlottesville to have lunch with your girl Suzanne Savage and Missy Snelling to act like teenagers and talk trash about people we went to high school with. And Friday I have to go to my sisters for the home inspection prior to her settlement. What I do every day is really boring but I’ll tell you since you asked. Next time. I haven’t eaten yet and it’s turtle night again so I need to feed and soak them and give them meds. Plus I need to submit the permit to the project admin for the pond rescue and that’s several hours of paper work.
Mick says that Keith isn't a happy person, but he doesn't come across as being particularly unhappy. Been reading quite a bit about their personalities since Charlie died and it seems that Mick is quite different to the rest of the group, including Bill Wyman.

Say what you want about him, but he sure has got his shit together. He's been off heroin since 1982 and that's pretty amazing considering how available it is to a guy in a rock n roll band of their stature. Most addicts fall off the wagon more often than not.
He stopped using heroin in 1977, after getting arrested in Toronto.
You are right. Even more amazing.
... But leaving heroin made room and time for other stuff 😂
Oskarileikos: yeah, like wearing eyeliner and becoming an old jukebox.
pac401Most normal people don't need a pat on the back to NOT abuse heroin. Anyway, sure he's off it now but then he rolled up his father's ashes into a joint then smoked it. I don't consider that "getting your life together".
Men like Keith should be teaching
Fantastic autobiographia Keitha Richardsa - "Life"
he knows - what a great person
Keith is CEO of cool
Keith is the Captian Jack Sparrow of rock n roll..literally
Actuaally far better, more depth, confidence, and style. He is what Jack Sparrow wishes he was. (
How often do you see an 80 year old man wearing eye liner? Just sayin...
"80" was like saying "a mile long." The point being really, really old. He was never that good of a guitar player. He is a sleazebag and he needs to stop wearing the eyeliner.
sam V Keith Richards guitar icon/composer/producer/song writer/gatherer of coconuts . . .what more can anyone say!? Oh: Rolling Stone!
Richard Deckard I would define a great guitar player as someone who makes the guitar sound great. Keith passes the test.
fiveredpears
hahahahahahahahahahaha
How often do you read guys say just sayin' and it makes you wanna hurl? Just sayin'.
I have the utmost respect for Keith. He is one of many musical legends. They don't make em like that anymore. One question: Does he wear eye liner?
1:45 in “Keith Richards, guitarist Rolling Stones”. Whew, I was wondering who this guy was.
Wont be another like them.
they have held it together ,, thank all gods ,,
"Midnight Rambler" is a song that Jagger performs like a virtuoso and the band backs him up beautifully during it. See it live and you'll never forget it...
The virtuoso performance on Midnight Rambler is Charlie’s.
At Brussell 73 it was Jagger and Taylor who gives the incredible intensity to this song, I saw them but anyway without Keith no song, so...
Who created the percussive beat. Jones. I know not acknowledged. At this point, considering all the deception regarding his work, that is irrelevant
Greatness in combination with humility =HERO
So many other musicians tried to copy his looks for so many decades, and so many failed. There's only one Keefer, love this man!
Keith is great and when he goes after Mick he just does it, kind of like when I go after my brother or he attacks me. They are who they are and will always attract a large large audience. The stones are the last of my generation but the new generation has to know them. That is their magic....
All of the stones are great 👍
I love Keef and Mick BUT in the eighties Mick felt that the state of health of a few Stones was such that it was hard to trust them to be there. They benefitted from a hiatus. If it didn't happen the Stones would have fizzled. I'm glad they didn't as they are still a phenomenon. Come to Oz boys. I'll be there!
Keith is there for the music 👌
Keith stayed real and grounded the peacock in Mick
Those particular fingers rocked the Rolling Stones into international legendary stardom.
.
Keith is also the lead singer on the Stone's greatest ever hit "Little T & A".
Pity you didn’t comment on his solo efforts tho…as in solo album. By the way Tattoo You was one of a number of sell albums, just saying
That was also before they made him run, wasn't it.
That's one of my favorites stones songs too!
Do you want to hear Keef`s harmonies???????? Listen "You gotta move" From "Sticky fingers" album!!!
great stuff..he is such an intelligent and funny guy,,
that guy is a great interviewer. id love to see the whole thing
This has to be one of the oddest comments I’ve ever read on the Web.
COOLEST MAN EVER
So glad Keith is with us and you are right about his song writing. He's so damned funny too. Roll on Keith, Namaste, Z
Keith was and is the spine of the Stones.

It is very, very funny that you asked me to go hiking.
Mick and Keith wrote Midnight Rambler together. If Keith is implying he wrote it for Jagger, he’s exaggerating for sure. Mick has said elsewhere that they wrote it together, and it’s obvious. Love Keith forever!!!
Happy birthday, Keith!
Give the man a break - he's lived hard and survived. I don't care what he looks like, I'm just glad he's still around.
I wonder if the "dead flowers" on the table were there to make Keef look relatively young and vibrant.
