    * I see many comments about me saying "Canada doesn't have racism"
Now that I think about it, I realized I wasn't thinking straight. Of course racism exists everywhere.
But the reason behind saying that is, growing up in Vancouver, Canada, I felt like it was less prevalent compared to other countries.
When I was traveling to other countries, there were a lot of incidents where I was mistreated because I was an Asian.
However, I feel like I wasn't mistreated for once because I was an Asian in Canada. (Maybe this is because I mostly stayed in Vancouver, especially in school campus) That's why I said compared to other countries, Canada doesn't have racism.
But I feel like I said this in my perspective, not considering others who are actually experiencing racism in Canada.
Sorry for the confusion, and I really apologize for saying that. :(

Yeah, I am also disappointed 🙁 in the amount of racism towards black people coming out of South Korea still.
They obviously know what they are doing and the way the public behaved towards Sam after he called out those children Blackface. I truly considered my support for Rain, Lee Seung Gi, Lee Min Ho, Jung Hae In and few others and so many others.
I am still upset about the last Ji Chang-Wook drama Backstreet-Rookie especially as a Jamaican 🇯🇲 with lots of Rastafarian in my family and friends.
South Koreans can no longer use the excuse of not knowing what racism is.

Until black people stop calling themselves then N-word not all of us will be offended when it is directed at us.

Well, I think that’s pretty normal for anyone to go to a country and you’re not native to them. I’m white and I would probably get stares too, because I’m white, and also fat lmao. They’re probably not not racist just don’t see much black or white people, etc. I don’t think it’s racism just surprised cause everyone is like them and it’s strange to see someone out of the ordinary. Probably wondering why you’re there. I don’t think that’s racist to stare. In America , it’s a diverse country and there’s a lot of people and you probably wouldn’t get stares because people are used to each other and being around different races unless it’s a person that never seen someone outside of their race before. That’s also common in America. So a not diverse country like Korea would probably wonder why someone not their race would be carrious and stare but I don’t think it’s out of racism.

He could not understand why for the love of it, people came up to me asking was my boss look to buy ☺️. He then experiences it with people telling him to cover his face and threatened to spit on him.
He was so hurt after experiencing it on both sides he started telling me to go to shops before him to see how staff behave before he spends his money.

It's such a double edged sword. Some Koreans are racist against black people, however when in other countries, especially America, they're experiencing the same type of racism. Why can't we all just like or dislike a person based on character instead of the color of one's skin color? If I relied on the media to tell me about asians, I would have every stereotypical idea in my mind about them, but I don't rely on the media, I form my own personal opinions. Also, yes Canada does have racism. It's just not as prevalent as the United States, so please don't make a false statement like that. If you're going to do videos based on race, you have to be honest and not false advertise. The interview was okay. Trying to dumb down that Koreans aren't racist?? That's another falsity. I have been to Korea, and my visit there was fine, but some people want to touch my curly hair and that's a big NO. I was told I wasn't black because of my skin color, and I am most definitely a black woman with both parents being black. I'm just a lighter hue of a black woman. We just need to stop with the racist shit, and accept people for who they are.

It’s 2021 & I’ll say since about 2016 social media has expanded & grown so for me personally there is no more excusing the racism in Korea by saying “ they aren’t educated “ there’s so much information on the internet for them to still be ignorant. Especially when Kpop idols are ignorant or so racist things because they are very aware of what’s disrespectful & what’s not because 90% they use social media . It’s hard for me to believe they can educate themselves enough on the trends that come from specific cultures or just copy a culture but can’t educate themselves on what’s appropriate & what’s not . Racism is TAUGHT ignorance, because at the end of the day a lot of the times you know if something you say is disrespectful or not

    • @annwashington471
      @annwashington471 3 года назад +5

My daughter lived there for a year she was spit at , taxis like here in america wouldn't stop for her. It's not ignorance it is simply they don't care . There are no repercussions for racists acts in South Korea. The older generation won't change I hope at some point a lot of the younger one's will learn to be respectful. It also has a lot to do with their culture
light and fair skinned is what is import that is their beauty standard so they aren't just racists against black people but their own as well. In bts RM is hated because he is considered too dark .

there's so much discriminstion and bullying in South Korea. I worked and lived among them for a year in the mid 80's. Frequented the country even after my contract finished till 2018 then stopped coming. I realized that Korea was one that triggered my severe depression in the early 2000's yet still traveled back in hopes that it is not that made me lonely and upset but throughout the years I was making business the more I became upset that even made me cried and run at the very moment back home. Unfortunately it wasn't possible as I need to tackle so many things before wrapping up my business in Seoul and Busan. Korea I must say isn't a country that you can settled in neither make business with rather than bring their business out of Korea. After my recovery, I moved my business to Bangkok and lived in peace with thais that even there is also a language barrier, I never experienced racism and bullying. After Japanese and Filipinos, I find Thais that is easy to get along with too. It's easy to build friendships while it is not with Koreans. For a year of living in Seoul and a business the exist for decades, I only have 2 genuine korean friends. Funny huh?

A great video to create awareness, which is much needed in South Korea. However, Joonkik, I think you should also do a video about experiences from other cultures and races. I have also experienced racism in S.K, just due to the way I look. I have dark skin, and people generally just look down on me. Everyday when I walk on the streets, people who are walking towards to me would move onto the road just before passing me, as they are either scared of me or they think I might steal something from them. I am also gay, and in the gay community here, the majority of Korean guys would not even shed one minute of their time with me, either and I am too ugly for them, or it is my race/skin colour. I have been here for almost 7 months now, and all I wanted was to make friends with some Koreans, even just 1 Korean friend would make me so happy, but I guess that is too much to ask for here and I just don't know what to do anymore :(

Because I'm South African, the moment I saw her I knew she was South African 😅🇿🇦and then when I heard her name I was like "yeah".

I literally live around the corner from a venue with a “no foreigner” sign. It’s here and legal. The pandemic really brought out a lot of the discriminatory practices here and racial fears/biases.

Canada has racism. I experienced it. I remember crying. It’s not something you see a lot of physically. But, go on the comment sections on Facebook, it’s shocking. People being blatantly racist hiding behind their phones. Makes me very cautious. I get worried about what my colleagues really think about me. But they all seem like great people.
