- Cut It Out is a psychological drama following Tara as she is being guided to defuse a bomb in a school, which leads her into a surrealistic situation she has to escape from.

My interpretation was her giving up her time/life (the ticking hallway) for the one she’s told to travel down. She is wearing a mask, probably to represent her seeing the world through someone else’s eyes, someone who wants to use her. She is then peer pressured to do something and become something bigger than her (possibly a cult or something similar?). She is an infant, helpless, but she still has her mind. They weren’t able to influence her mind, so she got out, destroyed everything that was trying to control her, and is no longer wearing the mask. She can see the world through her own eyes. And she is going back to the hallway on the left, her life. That’s my take on it anyway
Fighting a toxic abusive relationship? Cutting off horrible blood relatives maybe and being reborn from letting go. I might be way off course but.. at 5 am 2 sleepless nights I needed this. I'm making the right decisions no matter how hard or lonely. Beautiful animation/story thank you 💕

How were weak under pressure, an abusive relationship that consumes you, and how hard it is to cut the abusive person out of your life even if its obvious to others that it's the thing to do, and then how you're reborn a stronger person after it.
It's really about her boss who's a blob thing and it's just too demanding. She cuts her ties with this job literally and goes of to find out where that bloody ticking is coming from.
Very freaky concept, I certainly did not expect random baby Tara. God, now I'll have to search for the meaning in this CG nightmare..

So an anomaly with possible cognitohazard as command baited her into that room thinking the bombs in there and seemed to be under the influence of some cognitohazard with reality warping abilities

running from something toxic or something that is ruining her life. the voice telling her what to do is her heart, and when we see her as a baby, that could represent her starting new from something she has experienced or gone through.

Hello! I was part of the team, and for this project most of our pipeline was in Autodesk Maya, rendered with arnold. Tara, and the tumor bomb were sculpted in zbrush, and textured in Mari, and our TD implemented Houdini here and there. finally the rendered images were composited in Nuke :)

I believe the veins were a growth sim from Houdini, and the jelly fluids were a fluid sim from there aswell. I don't know the technicalities, as I am not a Houdini artist myself.
We initially had plans for more FX elements, but lockdown and working on the project from home forced us to prioritize and reschedule:)

On another note, I think this was pretty well executed.
EOD suit, Not hazmat. EOD suits almost never have gloves because its more importent to have good grip/control on the tools you would be using.

She is wearing a suit for bomb defusal, which do not have gloves because gloves would make operations more difficult. It's how they are irl too

But, even with what I said in the previous comment, this animation does have a meaning behind it, It's a metaphor for escaping a toxic relationship: Often manipulative people make you cut ties with the people around you, to make it seem as if they were indespensable, when the best thing to do from the start would've been cutting them out from the start.
