I always love Arin’s “trying to pretend I don’t know this is a scary game in order to scare Dan” voice.
You'd think Dan would've learned by now.
@@thebeavpercabethftw9604 It's hard to think rationally when being talked to in that sexy voice

The timing on Dan saying "oh come on, is this what the whole game is?" and an immediate jumpscare death scene right after.
Dan needs to find a spooky experience Arin has never seen and show him it this Halloween. We'll finally get to see what it's like on the other side of P.T.
The problem is Arin is way more terminally online than Dan and Dan is studiously averse to scary shit, so... how

Finding out that Dan can't read music might be the second most encouraging thing I've ever experienced in my life. Maybe I'll write a song about it.
Yep, made me feel better too. I can kinda read music but I mainly play or sing by ear. I’ve always felt lacking because of my shitty music reading skills. But hey, at least I can say I sound good whether I can read it well or not lol. As long as I can hear it, I’m good.
@@Willowin22 Ooo, what sort of music do you produce? ;D
Certain types of musicians must be excellent music readers (or at least acceptable readers), but there's a ton of very successful musicians throughout history that couldn't read a note of sheet music. For example, the Beatles didn't read music, either.
@@Willowin22 I can do the same, I can technically read music but nowhere near the speed to sightread. (I play piano FYI.) But I also play great by ear, and I think i'm good at improvising.

I actually spilled my drink when it happened. Now I have to clean up my tea.
That thing startled me too. If that is all Backrooms is, im not interested. SuperLiminal is a better game.

Once again, their comedic timing was AMAZING!
I'm so stunned at at the timing 😆😆 that was PERFECT
I also like how it just goes back to the calming overlayed music. 😂
Thanks for setting the most replayed time for us!
Dan has the best clairvoyance
It got me too 😂
I’ve never found the backrooms particularly scary but I have to say, seeing versions of it that contain monsters and other spooks make it significantly less scary to me. A big empty place with nothing in it is infinitely scarier.
Yeah, the last time I heard about the backrooms, it was a niche idea with just the yellow wallpaper and infinite space. No monsters or extra floors. The idea of accidentally clipping through reality and ending up there, with your only potential company being stumbling on the bodies of other people who starved to death was much more vivid to me.
Although, I will say the kid who made the backrooms short movies did a really good job.
@@CiaphasKirby The short stories were very well made, I agree
Especially when those monsters are spiders with smiley faces and people with bags on their heads. Maybe it's scary for some people, but for me it's just silly
@@CiaphasKirby
The original post heavily implied there were some creatures there.
Paraphrasing:
"If you hear something, run, because it sure as hell heard you."
@@CiaphasKirby who's to say the only creatures that glitched through reality and ended up there are human? Fear of the unknown is a powerful thing. Maybe there's something? Maybe there isn't. And if there is and you encounter it will you encounter it again? What if those noises you hear are something else?
But in the end it's a game and you can't just get away with spoopy ambient noise and no monsters. There would be nothing to do.
To be fair, I only rewind the scary screams because I miss the scary parts cause they happen so fast. I'm either distracted or looking away when they happen so I have to rewind it to see what scared them 😂
I enjoy seeing them scream and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
_Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure._ 😉

Danny's comedic timing, even when he doesn't intend it, is just amazing. Wondering if the game is nothing but wandering around aimlessly followed immediately by a panic scream.
Love when Dan gets worked up because it turns out the game is scary and not just creepy

I don't know why but I have the exact opposite reaction to liminal spaces. Being in a place like this seems like so much fun because it's like an endless labyrinth and I love trying to solve mazes lol. If this is what purgatory is like then I'd be fine with that.
Yall gotta do complex: found footage now. Its the quintessential backrooms experience, cause it just gets what the whole idea of the backrooms is. Pure liminality, and all the scares are manufactured by your own mind
I gotta remember that one. I already played a simpler backrooms game like this on steam. You had to keep checking your watch or something to remember who you were
@@nondescriptbeing5944 its free on steam. The whole experience is 45 minutes to an hour long, depending on how much you get lost, and I cant recomend it more

This was essentially a 34 minute long version of that part in silent hill shattered memories where danny frantically screams the walk-through to arin to get him through that part where he has to run through all the doors while the monsters jump on him
‘Look around… this seems safe’ as a demon comes from one of the holes in the floor lol
What demon???
Where?
i love how after the first jumpscare the guitar comes back
Arin: "It's like, a liminal space."
Dan: "What's a liminal space?"
Arin: *oh shit he called my bluff*
Except he literally perfectly, if a little sloppily-worded, described both the literal meaning ('transitional space, like a hallway') *and* the pop-culture meaning ('empty, kind of familiar, and just slightly unnerving').
Yeah, Arin frequently misuses words and phrases.
I looked it up though, and I THINK he might be right for once... maybe. It's a confusing definition for my tiny brain.
lmao not to be shitty and double down on it but he quickly blurted a very vague description and said "anyway!"
i mean Dan fell for it too don't feel bad
@@bfitz5610 It was literally both actual definitions, just worded poorly. Look it up. A liminal space (actual definition, word for word) "a space which serves as a transition from one place to another" ("like a hallway" as Arin said), and (pop-culture definition) "a place with a familiar yet unnerving feel, completely empty of life except for you". Literally what Arin said.
@@bfitz5610 He knew what it was, and he said what it was. He didn't have a speech prepared in case Dan asked. Sometimes things are difficult to describe on the spot, but he was still right. Like, what's your problem here? That the description was vague? Maybe that's because Arin is a human and not a walking Wikipedia entry and because he also wants to get the video started and not get bogged down with a lengthy definition when he could just give a brief description and go about his business like any normal human being would do.
So since the mentioned it, first person horror Pacman is just Dark Deception, they should 100% play that
yess, i love dark deception!!
I immediately thought of that
Backrooms gonna terrorize Dan's fragile psyche
is not fragile.....is just sensitive
@@VerbiGereando I feel like that's the same thing
@@Melbeezo it's susceptible, not shatterable
My brain read this as "Dan's fragile physique" at first glance. 😑
His collective trauma grows with each passing day ☺️
17:45 Arin's song about his dad not loving him is both untrue and hilarious. Danny adding to it with his talent is incredible, both incredible.
Now I want to see them attempt to play Vanish, and Arin's inevitable rage as the game continuously changes around him.
The pipe area around 15:00 reminds me of a museum i interned in, the entire basement was a maze of poorly lit cement walls and pipes. Museum was over 150 years old so everything was patchwork of expansions with little to no thought in how they connected. An entire area of the structural department was dedicated to making sure they found every inch of the building because recorded plans were very few. I would gopher between departments and being alone in certain areas felt like there would be no help for me if i had a problem.
Yep. Part of the draw of liminal space art and games, capturing that feeling
that is quite terrifying to experience irl
@Mr Garcia Interns have no rights my man, especially archive interns. edit: did get to see them unload an egyptian tablet so there were some benefits lol
that florescent hum is in the key of B. i will keep looping 2:58 because it's adorable
but of course it is, because the electricity it's running off of is 60hz. the B1 note.
good thing too, if this was in England it would be running on 50hz. the G#1 note. no one wants to hear that shiz.
1:00 I’m surprised Arin didn’t freak out from the slowly rising sound that seems to get a little louder the longer it goes on for.
"is this really all the game is?! *is immediately proven wrong*
AMAZING timing for that first scare
i believe Liminal spaces are spaces that, like arin said are inherently transitional, but specifically bereft of the typical amounts of people, most usually become liminal at night like truck stops, airports, even hospitals (mostly the hallways). The backrooms are essentially an apex concept due to the office-like aesthetic making it seem like things should be clustered with cubicals, furniture and objects and signs of people but since there are none it messes with the expectations and pattern recognition of our minds and it sets us on edge. ^^
'liminality' is also not just associated with places in between, but also, for example, times in between. so, midnight, the point in time between two days, is a big deal as well.
@@Nowolf that's neat. when Arin was describing it i was thinking of the dimension or whatever they go to in Langoliers, and it sounds like i was more right than i thought. and man, yes, that kind of place is hecking spooky.
That's probably part of why I hate hospitals 😭
17:47 - My dad always said to do those necessary things you like least first, after you wake up. That way you get it over with and can get on with your day. Since then, I've noticed he only calls me at around 6am.
Danny screaming always startles me far more than the thing he was screaming at haha
I was watching this video while i was sick and it made my day! Loved the part where you got scared … and scared … and scared again , and again
Liminal spaces make me feel more uneasy than scared, which is pretty cool for a creepypasta.
Same. I think it's because as social creatures the idea of an endless space with no interaction unlocks something in us
There's a Latin word, "genius loci", which means "spirit of place." Some places were harmonious and welcoming, and others were bad or eerie. It was believed benevolent or evil spirits inhabited such places.
I feel some very weird mojo in liminal spaces. They definitely have spirit of place, in a bad way.
@@coyoteclockworkstudios3140 that's probably because liminal spaces are meant to be transitional. you aren't meant to inhabit the space or linger in the space, so the uninviting aura is pretty fitting.
6:51
If you guys want to see a horror first person pac-man you should play Dark Deception!!! I'd love to see your guys' reactions to it!
That stringy creature scared the shit out of me and then Dans scream made it so much worse 😂
I'll never get tired of Arin's MC voice
I love Dan catching up horror trends such as FNAF and the backrooms. Arin should show him some analog stuff.
They should play the courage the cowardly dog arg would be funny not like the scariest but would be fun
I never found analog horror scary. It's mostly funny to me. Idk why, maybe it's the randomness of it.
@@AymenZero its not like ahhh scary some are more just creepy and stuff
@@AymenZero I think it helps if, y'know, you never actually watched stuff on VHS. the idea that for kids these days, 'analog' refers to something mysterious and unusual, as opposed to just...the default nature of existence, is something to think about.
@@Nowolf ah, so for us it's like those really old reel-to-reel movies where you can definitely see each frame transitioning. like that creepy part with the doctor riding that bicycle in House on Haunted Hill, in the deprivation hypnosis whatever the heck that was supposed to be chamber. man, that movie was something else.
Dan playing all these games with Arin makes me want a jolly style holiday song for Halloween in the style of "The Holiday Season" where Arin enjoys a lot of spooky halloween stuff, and Dan's just continuously crying and getting terrified with each thing. Bonus points if they both have to sing along and Arin's all cheerful and happy, and Dan's sobbing through words and manic.

4:19 missed opportunity for the smooth guitar to turn into a jojo to be continued joke
love that arin thought the crouching mechanism was just cause
I have to imagine this is a game for a very specific kind of phobia. I've worked in goverment buildings that had similar lighting issues and blank endless hallways, its more numbing than anything.
Little did Dan know that it's Ghoul Grumps time.
26:42 That's the hardest I've laughed in a while 🤣
Shit was hilarious 😂
I like to think Dan finds walkthroughs to hide from video horror..... And he never avoids it.
Hope Dan mentions House of Leaves again because liminal space is inextricably linked with it in my mind.
That first one actually scared the crap out of me. It was just such a long time without anything happening, I don't blame you for screaming Dan. I almost fell out if my chair lmao
That was kind of fun, the first jump scare, all 3 of us screamed like little baby mans in unison.
30:29 - Arin flexes some knowledge of compositional technique, right there. (He's correct).
well, now I absolutely need a video of Dan and Arin watching those recent KanePixel Backrooms videos.
Just to let you guys know that limital spaces are basically the bridge to point a to b. So when your in school or in the mall, you usually only think about getting to point b, but not the hallways or the little details of how you get there🤙
It's a transitional space between two main points, but what makes them frightening is when the space is taken out of context. A bustling school hallway at lunchtime isn't really scary, but when the school hallway is empty, in the middle of the night and taken out of context, it suddenly becomes nerve wracking and you pay more attention to your surroundings and start to see the limital spaces that's between point a and b.
The backrooms I basically when you noclipped outta reality and it can happen to anyone at anytime. Usually this will be the first level that your forced to try and survive, but there's an endless amount of levels that the poor souls noclipped into.
The frontrooms is normal reality(Earth)
The midrooms and sub rooms and pocket dimensions of different backrooms
The backrooms is the limital spaces of purgatory, your not dead but you can still be killed by the entities of the backrooms💀
Sorry for the rambling Arin and Dan😭 This concept is just really amazing! It's very reminiscent of LSD Dream imular and this will make an amazing movie/game ideas😎🤙
I already know arin is gonna have a hard time with the birthday party tables lmao

Dan's amazing musical ability despite his apparent lack of being able to read music is nothing short of incredible
I mean, not really. You don’t need to be able to read to hear and produce language of any sort.
so weird that dans usually strays from a perfect fifth chord but always the harmonic 7th when he harmonizes
