Turned out great! I would never criticize you or anyone else who is learning a new skill. I always appreciate how you show us the difficulties you encounter in various projects and how you problems solve them. The room is so lovely 😊
You have the most beautiful space! I can’t tell you how much I love every choice you made! I am trying to do a wall with the Billy Bookcases and have been watching countless videos. Thank you for explaining the process to create such an absolutely beautiful space! I downloaded the video on my phone and took pictures to be sure I can come back! Thank you so very much! Mary B.
OMG you crack me up! The “trigger” warning. My oh My it’s so nice to see someone else struggle with this type of thing and thank goodness for caulking, wood putty and now bondo! All good things to make our learning experiences appear seamless. Thank you for showing behind the curtain, it truly is a gift for those of us that try so hard and have the same type of results even on the third or fourth try! Hopefully people understand that learning is 3/4th the job and getting to experience it with you is a gift!
Ha, thanks Kim! 😅 I know people will freak out on that piece I wedged in there, but at least I didn’t try to caulk the gap! That would have been worse. Oh well, I keep learning with each project
I love watching you figure things out…the hard way! Just like the rest of non-contractor people who do not do DIY professionally! Good for you and thank you for allowing us to see all good, the bad, the ugly and then finally the fabulous!
Thanks Catherine! I think that’s one of the reasons I like DIY because it’s like a puzzle to riddle out. It’s especially pleasing when the projects actually turn out. 😅
I love your beautiful fill in job with the floor molding. 😂 I learned a long time ago that I am the only person that is going to see the flaws and making it work areas. Caulk, wood filler, etc are wonderful things. I still stare at the baseboard in my bathroom. I should have pieced it in, in a different area. It annoys me, but I am not redoing it. I’ve been staring at it for 10 years. I believe learning as I go and accepting that sometimes it just has to be “ good enough,” has helped me grow as a person. I’m 63 and still growing.
I have a piece of molding in my bathroom that the builders didn’t cap off and I stare at it everyday. They were pros and didn’t do right! 🫠 But yes, wood filler and caulk are like magic 🪄
This is exactly what I like to see - the challenges you faced and the learning process. It makes me feel more comfortable to start projects than when I see something that just happens magically!
Turned out beautifully! I'm encouraged by how you adapt to the various challenges. It helps me not to feel so incompetent when I run across the situations that arise when things don't always go as smoothly as we hope they will.
Holly transformation 🤩It would have cost you thousands to hire out your vision and you totally nailed it!! Again, thanks for showing your mistakes along the way ( and being hilarious about it) “I’m sorry if this may trigger some people, but I’m doing my best,” had me on the floor lol. The furniture community can be pretty wild 😂
Right? Wild, indeed! I know people are gonna see that piece and go crazy. I thought about not including it, but it’s real life and things don’t always go to plan. 😬
I love how you calmly handle all of it! Your enjoyment of doing it is palpable. So enjoyable for me to watch how gracefully you move through the project. You really need to be pleased with yourself on this one ~ fabulous! I love it, too!
I am so impressed by your ingenuity! I love that no one swooped in and rescued you. You solved all your issues and should be very proud of your beautiful work! I think the colour is gorgeous and I am going to use your sconce trick of using battery light bulbs!
Hello . You did an amazing job on the bookshelves. You say you learn as you go, but you press on, and you seem to always come out on top. You know more than you give yourself credit for. So well done!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
It turned out fantastic! Kudos to you showing your mistakes. It’s too bad the desk isn’t slightly longer to look more built in but still amazing job. And I love the color ❤
Thanks!! Yes, I considered bringing in the bookcases a bit, but I decided I wanted the flexibility to pull the desk and add a sofa or bed later down the road. I tend to rearrange a lot. 🫣
🤣😂🤣 your caulking was hilarious thank you 💙🥂 I agree colored caulk is the way to go. Great job, I just painted my Billy’s flat black and added copper hardware.
Terrific job! Thank you for sharing your learning curve as it gives us a realistic expectation as we endeavor to learn a new skill. Blessings from West Virginia.
Every seasoned carpenter can look back and see how they cut things to short or the other cuts they messed up. We all want to be like you and be brave enough to at least try a new thing. Loved how this turned out. You have talent girl. Linda Beals.
I appreciate your honesty and transparency re: mistakes. You're both humble and sweet. Plus you're encouraging to the rest of us making mistakes too. Nice job!
I think it turned out so well! It's really beautiful!! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has trouble with projects like these... everyone always makes it seem sooo easy, and sometimes it's just not and you showed that... thanks for that! Job well done!
OMG! I'm only at 16 minutes into this video & am shocked; okay maybe baffled? I think everyone makes mistakes & that's how we (hopefully learn how to) avoid them in the future. I've never accomplished a project & not had to re-somethingerother up, nor have I paid a professional to do something that didn't have to be reworked at least once. I hope this makes sense. Every project is a journey & they're generally each unique, IMO. You go girl; looks great! I'll continue watching, now & am excited to see your finished project.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so impressed and amazed. You are something else girl. You have inspired me and motivated me as well with your knowledge and your hard work. I’m exhausted from watching you but I’m also 75 years old. I love doing things like that but I get frustrated and tired but you seem to keep plugging away. Of course you’re a lot younger than I as well. Anyway, it turned out great. Thank you for sharing and also for explaining everything you did. Hugs
Aw, thanks Linda! I’m kind of a slow diyer. I’ll plug along, hit a snag, take a few days off to puzzle out the problem and then come back at it. I just keep taking small steps until it’s finally done. 😬☺️🙌🏼
Thank you for showing the problems and how you dealt with them. I have a lot of projects coming my why & you are helping me to not become frozen by fear of failure. I SO appreciate your videos!!! ❤❤
Your honest and open display of how this all came together makes it all the more real! Creators often cut the frustrations we all experience doing such a project. It came out so beautiful! Love the bird print! Would you like to build a Murphy Bed for me?!
Fabulous transformation! Love so many things about it, including the addition of brass accents to the desk. The rechargeable lightbulbs are new to me, and I’ll definitely be using them in the future! Matching caulk? Amazing! ‼️TIP‼️I can suggest getting an inexpensive ‘contour gauge’ to help with trim. It’s made up of a series of metal or plastic pins. You push it up against the trim, etc. that you need to match, and the pins move to duplicate the contour. You then trace that contour onto the trim you are cutting. It’s a game-changer! I appreciate you sharing your ‘missteps’. I’ve had many of my own! I have completed a lot of DIY over the years, including trim for 2 of my houses, a storage shed, and a potting shed (with up-cycled storage shelves/ cupboards made from bedsteads and a table from a Habitat for Humanity Restore). I spent a lot of my time in my dad’s workshop. Dad always told me that there’s nothing you can’t do, as long as you put your mind to it. My parents couldn’t agree on what to buy me for my 21st birthday, so my mom bought me a sewing machine and dad bought me a router. 😁 I’m now subscribed. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Your dad gave good advice about getting tools as you need for a project. My dad gave me tools for birthdays and Christmas; very appreciated and thoughtful gifts. You learned so much! Great design on colors, beefing up the bookcases, wall molding and sconces. I will use your technique to strengthen the shelving and secure it to the wall on a "death trap shoe unit" in my closet.
Ha! Yes, I choose not to edit out the flops. It’s just part of the process. Sometimes I have to walk away from a project for a few days or weeks, riddle out the problem in my head and then I’m ready to try it again. It will get finished one day if I just keep plugging along. 😊🙌🏼
I love your sense of style! Very classy and professional looking results. I particularly love the extra touches to the desk. I’d have never thought of that but it gives everything a look of luxury.
This looks fabulous. I know there are many who feel the need to criticize other’s processes. We all have to learn and figure it out. You did a great job on this and with adapting and fixing where you needed. I have been woodworking for 36 years and still make mistakes. Sometimes it’s costly too 😅 but you just figure it out and move on. Great job and beautiful color!
You did a great job, I think you're very brave not to let anything stop you!!! The mistakes you make throughout your learning process remind me of me. Good to know I'm not the only one LOL... Everything looks fresh and professional...
That is so amazing. I was rivetted. You are such a great, patient teacher. Ive watched so many slick Billy DIYs and my mind shuts down. Yours make it took possible both for your showing of minor flubs and your great explanations. Thanks,
Everything came together so beautifully! I love all the details you added to make the bookcases look more high end. The picture moulding turned out perfect - how nice to have a simpler way to do it! Dying about the trigger warning!😂🤣
❤THANK YOU for showing all your “issues” you had with this beautiful project. A lot of RUclipsrs, well most actually, would not dream of sharing their little bumps in the road but this helped me to tackle some jobs I had been hesitant about doing. Yours turned out PERFECT🎉
Very very nice! A friend made a library. Billy book cases covered all walls but what made it complete was the bookshelves over the door and window. She also put the trims like you did. Very nice! I might copy you when I do my office.
Well done. The brass fittings on the desk are perfect for your touch of campaign. Building in bookshelves is a challenge and you did very well. I really like the mouldings on the wall. The ability to color caulk is a hame changer for sure. Again, well done!
Wowza! Well done! I would put a big basket filled with a few throws right in that corner that bothers you. But seriously, you’ve given me inspiration and confidence to do this in my bedroom!!!!! Thanks! 💓
Absolutely LOVE the result! Its like Dark Academia, light in its not so heavy or cluttered which i appreciate so much, it can work for both you and your husbands activities and be a great place to “get away” and read or meditate if you wish. Love the colors, love what you did with the book cases and especially the Build a Batten so much useful info this time and I am here for it! BTW love the campaign look you gave the deal that was quite smart, see you are converting me to love it! All my best!
I love the Light Academia description. It fits to a tee! Yes, once I add a few more touches it will be the perfect little reading spot. It’s where I do my voice overs and I think it would be a good background for videos. 🙌🏼😊
Excellent job! What a great idea & the build a batten is genius! I bet that saves a lot of people from tearing their hair out! I think your mess up looks fine. It’s part of learning & if someone is down on the floor looking at that, well then you need different acquaintances! 🤣 I love the color & it really does look high end! 🦋
Ha! Yes! I figure if someone is that close, well, they’re probably weird. 😅 The build a batten was fabulous! I will probably use it again in a small space.
I think it looks fabulous! I love the color and the built-in look. The wall molding looks very professional, and I don't know how anyone could tell by looking that it isn't wood.
Girl…..you did a fantastic job! It all looks amazing 😊 and I learned a lot from you! So don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! I love the soft colours you chose 😊great job.😊
Great job! I don’t like doing miters either. I hold my trim up and with a pencil I draw a line in the corner as to the direction the cut needs to be. This has saved me on buying more trim. Only critique I have is the outlet cover under the desk. Paint it the wall color so it all flows.
GREAT job. I actually watched the entire video. We all learn as we go. I winced when i saw you cut the panels with the circular saw [you put your hand under the panel to stabilize... ouch] get some 2 inch insulation board and lay it across the saw horses!!! Again. I loved watching you adapt to and solve problems. Fantastic
We share the same miter skills, But are both masters at the caulk! Your result is great-you crushed it! I have been wanting a brad nailer and “build a batten” sounds like just what I need. I recently got a quote of 11k for crown and batten moulding! Thank you, so glad I found your channel.
As always great job. That is what I like about your videos, you get real and show difficulties and how you work thru them. I liked that you showed good tips and hacks that make the job easier (framing & colored caulk). Thanks
Wonderful job, you did such a great job!!!. Never get down on yourself when learning something new. You stuck with it, and completed it. Thats what is important😊😊, love the color and the framing for the bookcases and scones❤
It looks Amazing! Good for you not getting discouraged and being brave learning some new skills it looks incredible!! That corner that you’re not too happy with, would be challenging for a professional. There are so many planes coming together there at different angles. At the end of the day, your eye does not go to that area so I would say mission accomplished.
Looks fantastic! You have done what I’ve been wanting to do with my master bedroom wall - bureau instead of desk. I think you did an awesome job and I’m going to use this to make my own! Thank you for the very specific instructions. ❤ Shirley
Great job Lisa. Looks super. Thanks for your honesty in the video. It’s my first time watching your videos and very much enjoyed it. Keep up the good work. Adrian UK 🇬🇧

Well done. The brass fittings on the desk are perfect for your touch of campaign. Building in bookshelves is a challenge and you did very well. I really like the mouldings on the wall. The ability to color caulk is a hame changer for sure. Again, well done!
Thanks Ron! Yes, that colored caulk saved me SO much time in touch ups. 🙌🏼
Wowza! Well done! I would put a big basket filled with a few throws right in that corner that bothers you. But seriously, you’ve given me inspiration and confidence to do this in my bedroom!!!!! Thanks! 💓
Ha! Great idea! Honestly, I’m pretty picky and it doesn’t bother me. Maybe I’m mellowing out. 😅 I’m so glad. Good luck with your project ☘️
The build a batten was fabulous! I will probably use it again in a small space.
Oh & I love the bird picture! Gorgeous! 🦋
You have great taste 😎
Absolutely beautiful and so calming.
Thank you so much!
Looks great! Love the color, the molding, the desk. You are amazing.
Aw, Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Wow. That was a LOT of work. And worth it. Good, no Great job.
Indeed, it was! Thanks! 🫶
Such a great job! -Thank you for showing us the details, the mistakes - those all inform the process and are helpful.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I loved watching this! Thank you for sharing that this was not easy peasy and required a learning curve. We learn as we go, right? Beautiful job.
So true! Thanks Ellen! 🙌🏼☺️
I think it looks fabulous! I love the color and the built-in look. The wall molding looks very professional, and I don't know how anyone could tell by looking that it isn't wood.
I agree! That build and batten saved the day!
Girl…..you did a fantastic job! It all looks amazing 😊 and I learned a lot from you! So don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! I love the soft colours you chose 😊great job.😊
Aw, thanks Nikkie! 🤩🙌🏼
Great job! I don’t like doing miters either. I hold my trim up and with a pencil I draw a line in the corner as to the direction the cut needs to be. This has saved me on buying more trim. Only critique I have is the outlet cover under the desk. Paint it the wall color so it all flows.
Thanks! Yep, you’re the first person to mention the outlet. I hate it and plan to buy a cover that I can paint to make it seamless. ☺️🙌🏼
Wow. Looks beautiful and way to finish all the way to the very last detail
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼 I sure tried! 😊
Beautiful ... love how we fail forward and it's still a win 😊❤. Thank you & going to consider for an office makeover.
Thanks Carole, for sure 😬 Good luck on your project ☘️
Beautiful! Thanks for the step by step and clear explanations.
My pleasure. Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I subscribed because you are "real". You make mistakes and figure out the solution. Good job.
Thanks so much! And welcome! I’m glad you’re here 😊🙌🏼
Fantastic
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Sometimes camera angles make it seem that way, but I really am careful. 😬
I appreciate all your efforts. It reminds me of my own adventures on approaching something new. NICE WORK!
Thanks Margaret! It was a journey 😊🙌🏼
We share the same miter skills, But are both masters at the caulk! Your result is great-you crushed it! I have been wanting a brad nailer and “build a batten” sounds like just what I need. I recently got a quote of 11k for crown and batten moulding! Thank you, so glad I found your channel.
Ha! Soul sisters 😅😬 Caulk is magic 🪄
Good luck on your project! ☘️ It’s definitely a budget saving project
As always great job. That is what I like about your videos, you get real and show difficulties and how you work thru them. I liked that you showed good tips and hacks that make the job easier (framing & colored caulk). Thanks
Thanks Debbie! Yep, you know I share it all 😅
Thank you for showing the tools as well! I’m a newbie to this and need all the tips to make this project happen
Good luck! 🍀
Wonderful job, you did such a great job!!!. Never get down on yourself when learning something new. You stuck with it, and completed it. Thats what is important😊😊, love the color and the framing for the bookcases and scones❤
Thank you so much, Michelle! I think the fact that I actually completed it makes me the most happy! 😅😊
You are so talented, really skilled! And I loved seeing the build a batten portion. Great job!
Aw, Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Wow, so beautiful! You did a fabulous job! Oh how I wish I had a midge of your amazing talent! You turned this drab room into a show stopper! 😊❤
Thank you so much, Pam! I love it so much! 🤩
You did a beautiful job. You are amazingly talented. Thanks for sharing.
Aw, thanks Stefanie! ☺️🙌🏼
Bravo! Great job! Very professional. Thanks for sharing the process! 😊👍
Thanks for watching! ☺️🙌🏼
Thanks Kelly! I agree, at least that area isn’t front and center. 😅🙌🏼
Looks fantastic! You have done what I’ve been wanting to do with my master bedroom wall - bureau instead of desk. I think you did an awesome job and I’m going to use this to make my own!
Thank you for the very specific instructions.
❤ Shirley
My pleasure, thanks for watching, Shirley! Good luck with your project 🍀
Great job Lisa. Looks super. Thanks for your honesty in the video. It’s my first time watching your videos and very much enjoyed it. Keep up the good work. Adrian UK 🇬🇧
