      Yeeee, I cant stand it that people think the Norse had horned helmets too!

    • @braydenherum2223
      @braydenherum2223 4 года назад +4

      @Sam Bowling Alley Yes, Odin is often depicted with horns, but no archaeological evidence supporting horned helmets have been found, with the exception of the Veksø helmets which were only used for ceremonies and were long before the Viking Age. Horned helmets are also not mentioned in the Icelandic Sagas. Besides, wearing horns on a helmet into battle is quite impractical, since you're then easy to pull down to the ground. Maybe you should do some research before you challenge someone at a topic that you dont know about.

    • @braydenherum2223
      @braydenherum2223 4 года назад +2

      @Sam Bowling Alley It cannot be plausible if there is no evidence or accounts of it.

    That balloon part took me right back to junior school, we did it to make some masks

  • @adamlindsay265
    @adamlindsay265 7 лет назад +3

    Two things, next time try Wheat Paste instead of white glue and instead of shaving wood down, if you rip newsprint and brown paper bags, alternate the layers, and save the white glue for the inner and outer coat, you will get an excellent product. We make helm, hats and masks this way in theatre. Drillable, sandable and Paintable.

      +Adam Lindsay Thanks Adam for the tip, I know that trick, when I was in primary school we used to make art sculptures from wc paper and glue with water, but in this video I wanted to show to myself and you bros that it is possible to make it only from wood :) but I definitely recommend using toilet paper if you decide to make one ;)

    I like how the natural variations in the wood-mâché give it that battered hand forged look as soon as paint is applied. Impressive foresight; I'd have wound up making it perfect first and then distressing it after.

  • @ricardodemarco3486

    This, the only thing that I didn't even wondered to do in wood, can indeed be done... Allfather be praise, what a time to be alive! I can now make my very own viking helmet! For Honor's warlord cosplay, here I come!
    Anyway, an advice of someone that has already tried to make a chainmail, and almost made it through, you better avoid that kind of rings for the chainmail, they can be torn appart with no effort at all, because thy are not ribbeted together. I learned it the hard and sad way. And, I will finish my messer as soon as i have a free weekend.

    • @EpicWorkshop
      @EpicWorkshop  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you Bro :) Yeah go for it :)
      I know but to make 970 ( I think) of these rings is a "PAIN IN THE ASS" hahahahah
      If I was riveting each one of them this video would come on internet in MMLXXXVI AD :P
      But for my need they work amazing :) I closed them really good ;)
      Have an epic day :)

    Nice build! I really like the use of shavings, but i would like to add that it is slightly too small since an original would have a cloth liner to raise the helm of the head and cushion impact.

      50 C but this is only to speed up the process, be careful it is easy to mess up, it is better to leave it to air dry

      @@EpicWorkshop Thanks for the advice. Also, out of curiosity, do you have any advice regarding chin straps (as in what is the best way to attach them)? I've been looking at pictures of discovered helmets, some seem to have straps, and others don't.

    • @EpicWorkshop
      @EpicWorkshop  5 лет назад +1

      Use leather (or twine) on the sides of helmet and then tie them under your chin.

    • @EpicWorkshop

      +Bethel Vingthor I used wood shavings glued with mix of glue and water (to make the glue more spreadable) If I used plaster the helmet would be brittle and prone to breaking too easily :/
