„Zeit“ (time)
Three creatures of destiny are named: their names are Urd (fate), Verdandi (that which is to come) and Skuld (guilt; that which should be). Their names are considered to be Norse equivalents of common medieval notions of time in the form of personifications of the past (Urd), present (Verdandi) and future (Skuld).
The song deals with the theme of death and the transience of life. These motifs are expressed within the video through various images and metaphors. At the beginning, when the band members are drowning in the sea, Lindemann sings about the river of time, in which all people are trapped. This metaphor is visualized by the drowning in the video. In the war scene, where children first play war and later a battle actually takes place, the band sings about the inability to stop the future: "You can't summon the future, you don't tolerate a stay". In the same place where children used to play, they now die in war. The song expresses the wish that the beautiful moments as children should always last. The women who give birth to their children at the Sandstrom represent the cycle of time. In the same place where the dead daughter will later appear, children will also be born. The farmer and his daughter are separated in a moment that seemed perfect for them. The father tries to stop his daughter, but fails. Accordingly, he mourns the moment. The character in the video is clearly identifiable as Death by the black cloak. However, the video also equates it with the concept of time, as the passage of time means everyone has to die at some point. Referring to the band, some fans and journalists suspect that Zeit could be Rammstein's last album, which could be another meaning of the album and song name.
Holy shit, this song is dope! Till's voice is just *chef's kiss* I only know a tiny bit of German, but this makes me want to learn more.
Every rammstein song is worth learning german. But to get every little detail and all the double meanings behind words and to get the poetry which sometimes isnt expressing directly what is meant you need to be a native german speaker its really amazing.

Till is a modern poet whose instruments are more varied than any other's: vocals, instruments, pyrotechnics, imagery, word-games, symbolysm, the most disgusting facets of humanity presented through philosophical viewpoints... He's absolutely GENIUS. Rammstein is pure ART.

I could tell that you were getting emotional....when i first saw this i was 😭 I swear everytime i see this video i get emotional some says more than others and i agree with you on that part with the farmer and the way Tills voice comes in..usually i can make it through the video pretty good..maybe a little misty eyes..but OMG! When that part hits...i instantly 😭...its so freakin beautiful 💓 and sad😢at the same time💖
There's a special effect with this song i experienced in watching different reactions. Everyone experiences time in other ways and so they react to it.
I can only suggest to watch it in different moods then you'll see that it emphasizes your current emotional state.

Another thing that came to my the babies being put back in to the mother to be born again on earth and also coming back in a sense they died on earth and are now being born in the other world and their birth or rebirth on earth is them already starting to die because as soon as your born your dying..your dying to live or as Rammstein put it "Wir sterben weiter bis wir leben" "We keep dying until we live" because in a sense what we perceive as dying is us actually being born again into the other world that's why the girl in the end seems happy when she dies because she knows that her death here means her being born over there..if that makes any Sense?
This is art at its finest..a true Masterpiece!!

Angst "Rammstein" Reaction please
I want to thank you for being one of the very few male reactor that didn't look shocked or horrified when they show the scenes of the women giving birth. I was already expecting to see a look of disgust or some comment on how they shouldn't show that. So thank you very much for being a mature adult.

My interpretation and thought was time goes on like a continuous cycle and those rare occasions when we are truly happy of course we want time to stop. The showing of the sand and hourglass ⌛ time keeps going and them showing the scenes reversing to me meant a desire to go back in time either to the moment of birth and start our lives over or to before we're even born saying no i don't even want to be born i want to go back before i was even conscious of my own existence and mortality. Them being blindfolded to me was no one knows whats going to happen in the future we don't know what kind of lives these babies are going to have.

The 3 black dressed figures are the 3 Nornes. In old German fore-christian mythology they represent the past, present and the future. the Norne of the past is named Urd (the destiny) the Norne of the present is Verdandi (that what is now and what will be in the next moment). The Norne of the future is Skuld(that what will grow out of the past and always changing moments). The Nornes spin the rope of life and they decide where the rope begins and where it ends. Germany we still say " life hangs at a thin rope" when things are getting dangerous or someone is really hurt or sick. The Nornes are no gods, they just represent the time of a life. People can't influence time and a lot of things that happen. The life of everyone is created by the Nornes what means by the time and we are all sitting in the same boat mightless in the sands of time. This is the credo of this song.
