Hey I like your channel. Finally no influencers bullshit and constant marketing and product selling, just a regular guy playing with the sounds and gear with pure love and sharing his thought and discoveries. It feels a bit like being with a friend in a bedroom talking and experimenting with what you've got, not just constantly wanting the next new thing on the market. I hope you continue that route, for the most part, with this channel :)
Thank you for the kind words! And yes that's exactly the route I intend on continuing on. I'm a bit more interested in exploring and sharing the application of the equipment rather than focusing on the equipment itself. I try to use no frills industry standard equipment for the most part for that reason. Thanks again for the support. More to come!

I agree with the statement above. Most channels are just mindless gear carousels, flashy this, flashy that, with some hyperactive guy barking affiliate links and shredding at 200 miles per hour. Your content and your laid back approach to giving useful and musical tips is the real magic! Your playing is very tasteful too. If you feel like it, how about a video on semi hollows? :)
Love your demos, Michael. No BS, no trying to sell us anything. Just good honest info with easily accessible gear. I have a Boss DD6 and a late 90's DMM. They work beautifully together.
Great video! Just last week I bought a 2nd delay to be used exclusively as a nearly always on slapback in order to free up my other delay pedal for longer delays. I combined the two and it opened up to something more than the sum of the parts and led to hours of experimentation. I didn't realise I'd been hearing these sounds in lots of songs! This video is a great resource for these sounds, thanks very much.
Recently re-added my old Donner Yellow Fall in front of the MXR Carbon Copy Mini I replaced it with. Great options, like you, Donner for slap, "long" delay & short repeats, CC Mini for more verby delay, short delay many repeats, icing is the modulation button. Together, they balance each other out & create a cool roomy vibe. 6 knobs, 2 minis, no brains required.
All very great uses for delay! One of my favorite delay settings right now is running a reverse delay into a modulated delay (walrus fundamental delay into keeley caverns). I’ve always been a big fan of stacking analog and digital delays as well.
Been enjoying your videos the algorithm has sent my way. Another AMAZING pedal with the dotted eighth rhythmic setting is the TC nova delay. Love your suggestions for the different stacking options. Looking forward to more vids.
Nice one Michael! I have been messing about with multiple delays for quite some time now and your last two items on this video are super valuable, the diffusing sound of delays that are not in time with each other is such a pleasant way to add atmosphere in a room. I have stumbled upon some of these things but really have to commend you on distilling them into such an awesome concise video and memorable explanations - you are so awesome man, keep it up!
Another great video as always! I love doing a lot of what you mentioned with my DD-8 and DD-3T. Sometimes I switch one out for my Carbon Copy but I find it to be too dark at times.
I usually play a shorter delay into a longer one, MXR Echoplex into the DMM setting of my Electro Harmonix Canyon. I could use the MXR with a digital or reverse delay sound on the EHX. There are possibilities, for sure. Thanks for the tips! There are things to explore. Also, beautiful use of the volume knob there! It's not as easy on a Telecaster, it in this case Telecaster Deluxe, as it is on a Stratocaster.
Catalin Bread Belle Epoch Deluxe into three delays options in my oceans 12 Two delay verbs and one reverse delays which also does reverse reverb as options.
I'm not sure if that's what you meant, but I think "Where the Streets..." is just one echo, with some modulation, set to a dotted 8th, not two different echoes. Edge is not known for using more than one echo at a time, or multi-taps. I think there a couple of tracks on the Zooropa album where he used multi-taps, especially the title track, but that's about it.
Very nice and informative. What is your guitar model & pickups? I find that influences all after... Thanks. BTW I really like your room design, perhaps you could give us a little tour?
Great ideas! How would you go about setting up an analog, tape (el cap) and flint pedal order for versatile mucking about with some of these ideas? Any order that’s more obvious or just a case of keep shifting them about?
Hello! Congratulations about excelent video. One question: In part "4. Ambient Wash Using Multiple Delays" did you use a reverb effect from de amp or other resource? P.S, this sound is amazing
Hey thanks! I don't think I did actually, or if I did have the amps spring reverb on it would have been very minimal. I didn't think it needed it in the end because of the way I was playing but reverb can definitely help mask the repeats into more of a wash if you need it.
Hello Michael I just found your channel today and subscribed. Nice stuff. I have a Keeley Halo, Strymon Cloudburst, and a Strymon Brig on my board. I play at church and like the sounds similar to what you were playing in the beginning of this video. Have you had any experience with any of these pedals or combinations of them?
Nope, good question. It's personal preference as far as I'm concerned. I tend to prefer longer into shorter most of the time. Try both and see which you prefer, that's what I do anyway.
MICHAEL BANFIELD, If you use delays that have an effects loop ports for the Repeats you can use guitar pedals connected in the REPEATS only. IF you stack two delays that both have effects loops you can put guitar pedals like a tremolo pedal and phaser pedal for the REPEATS only. You should make a YT lesson about this.
@@MichaelBanfieldGuitar thanks, Syd Barrett used two echo units stacked to get longer delays and also layered slap back delays you can make a YT lesson about. Listen to pink floyd first album with Syd Barrett and the guitar solo for See Emily Play is using 2 echo units to get those multiple rhythmic stacked slap back reflections effects. Also Robert Fripp made solo albums with Brian Eno uses Sound on sound delays if you have a fender amplifier that has 4 input jacks for 2 channels you can connect the delay pedals to the different fender input jacks to create sound and sound delays to get those Fripptronics sound on sound which you can do a YT lesson about.
I wouldn’t feel too bad, those multi function delay pedals have so many modes and hidden features it’s easy to forget a few things and just stick to the main controls, a lot of the time that’s all you need anyway.
The order of the pedals is always going from right to left here. The order does change the sound a little but it's totally personal preference if you ask me, just try both and pick your favourite.
Both the old and new DL4 should be able to do the classic 1/4 + dotted 1/8 delay. Stereo delay mode on the old one (can be run in mono) and the new one has a dedicated dual delay mode that looks promising. I’m not that familiar with the DL4 to be honest but make sure you explore it fully before ditching it, or consider adding another delay pedal with tap tempo along side it, a setup like that could do pretty much anything! Have fun
Cool sounds….that said , I think you can do most of this with a Strymon DIG with the highest audio quality. The 12 bit setting is incredible and the fidelity overall , mixed with its voicing for guitars is unmatched. The dual delays are so musical. Get a Volante next to it and I’ll take that combo over any.
I think the 2nd one, what I’d call a classic rhythmic dual delay is the closest for that. Although it’s only an approximation of the type of delay sound he’s known for, so you can tweak it to your hearts content.
@@MichaelBanfieldGuitar I had one on loan for a few months back in the 1980's, great guitar, those Fender humbuckers are fantastic. The owner didn’t want to sell it, unfortunate for me, but wise decision..

Cool shootout. Yeah, I heard differences on all too. Preferred the 1992 for all the hi gain stuff for the reasons you mentioned. I like how the 1992 original compresses the mids into a lower frequency range vs the older 6505. I feel like it puts the guitars into a sweet spot come mix time. The older 6505 seems to emphasize an upper mid range that I would probably end up Eqing out in the mix anyways.
