I’ve got a 2010 SRT8 with the 6.1. What a great ride, and what a great deal (I bought it in pristine condition in 2016 with only 20K miles on it for $26K). Silly me, I put a Magnusson supercharger and a Bolsa exhaust on it, boosting HP from 425 to around 590. What a blast - but now my wife won’t drive it, it scares her. For anyone considering going this route, it’s about an $8K adder, but it’s a simple drop in, no engine mods required - and it comes with a pre-tuned ECU. The base 6.1 always put a smile on my face, I would have zero regrets if I dialed back the hands of time and did not put the blower on it. Oh, and by the way, I have had zero maintenance issues on this car, which now has 60K miles on it. Thanks for the post, I found it informative

Truth of the matter is that the 6.1 is a classic: the grandfather to the generations after. The one thing I love about the 6.1"s is the DVD entertainment system in the front and the center console pop out screen for the backseat riders and you can also download music to the car from an IPOD. Much more space and its design has its own aggressive stance. The 6.1 is nostalgic, the 6.4 is new technology.

I think what it mainly comes down to is how far do you wanna go, how much money do your want to spend. A ‘15+ 392 stock for stock is lightyears ahead of a 6.1 car, but when it comes to real mods (more than bolt ons) I have to tip my hat to the 6.1 cars.
A 6.1 with a nag is way more solid than our 6.4/HP70 cars. If I’m building a purpose built racecar, 6.1 for the win! For daily/street fun the ‘15+ 392’s are the ticket.

But it still pulls the same 0-100 times and breaks easier....
6.1 all day. Get her stroked out and there is nothing comparable unless you go get yourself a Hellcat or Daemon.
6.4's are good - but if you think its waaaaayyyy ahead of the 6.1, you're having a laugh. Line up next to a stock one in your stock 6.4 and see how much you won't really win in a race. All you have to do with the 6.1 is spend 10k on cold air, performance radiator/intercooler, slightly larger throttle body, Edelbrock EFI, extractors with a full exhaust system and they will have more power across the rev range than a 6.4 without even cracking the heads or block. Then throw a performance cam in there and she will block smoke all over a 6.4. There's a reason the 6.1s are highly sought after - you can stroke them, tune them right up and push them to the limit and they won't bite you in the arse and break after a big day of Q mile runs.

I'm curious. I hear a lot of people comparing the 5.7 L to the 6.4 L. I've heard that the 5.7l L has trouble with the roller lifters which end up shaving the cam lobes almost to circles. Plus I think the valve guides drop. Other than that I've heard of people getting a little more than 400 hp without spending a ton of money.
Then I hear that the 6.4 L naturally comes with more power but the internals aren't heavy duty so if you try to build them up, they will grenade. I'm looking for something that I can build to make a Powerful engine that runs long and dependable, not for something that can give out at any time.
I haven't heard almost anything about the 6.1 L. Do they have the same problems as the 5.7 L ?
Do they have any of their own problems ? Do you or any of your subscribers know about building this engine up or out of the three engines, which is the most dependable and which one can you get a LOT of hp from without selling your house?

Would like to see how far I can take the 5.7. Likely after the cam, heads and Long Tubes the nxt step will be forced air and forging, reinforcingthe car as I believe on stock parts its only equiped to handle 550hp roughly though this has been disputed though longevity would be my concern if kept stock in any way as I continue to mod

    The 6.1 Hemi:
The engine's bore x stroke is 103 mm × 90.9 mm (4.055 in × 3.579 in), and many other changes were made to allow it to produce 425 bhp (317 kW; 431 PS) @ 6200 rpm and 420 lb⋅ft (569 N⋅m) of torque @ 4800 rpm. The engine block is different from the 5.7, with revised coolant channels and oil jets to cool the pistons.
A forged crankshaft, lighter pistons, and strengthened connecting rods aid durability. A cast aluminum intake manifold is tuned for high-RPM power and does not include variable-length technology. Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System is not used on the 6.1
    6.4 is 4.09 piston bore , 3.724 piston stroke.
Better heads and different improvements that I don't know.
From what I've been reading 5.7 , 6.1 and 6.2 have same piston stroke with different piston bore .
The 6.4 is the best N/A from dodge available in their respective cars.

If it were me, I would find a 5/7 with an 8-speed. Save up for a 3.70 rear diff out of a manual Hellcat, tune for the transmission and for the engine and full exhaust.
