Thank you Whimsy! Thank you for your insightful and open-minded thoughts. Joel giving Ellie a choice and "I've lost somethin'", both killed me. The thematic work Craig Mazin is doing and how it's clearly going to add to the ending, bravo!
Regarding it being winter: the show starts in late September. Bill and Frank's letter was dated August 29th, playlist went out three weeks later, at the end of episode 1. Three months later puts it right around Christmas.
@Whimsy Psyche might have been a fair amount of backtracking and detouring around infected and other unfriendlies. Plus, they were lost at the beginning of the episode, and needed Graham Greene to tell them where they were.
@@WhimsyPsyche They were in Kansas City in the previous episode, not the state of Kansas. Kansas City is in Missouri (confusing for non-Americans, granted) which is 120 miles further east than the state of Kansas. This is why it took them longer than you thought it might to travel on foot in the winter. Great reaction! Pedro slayed in this episode. "I'm failin' in my sleep!" Incredible.
1:51 Bill & Frank have their last "good day" on August 23, at least several weeks before Joel & Ellie arrive in Lincoln, MA (September) and acquire a truck. After two days of driving, they lose the truck in Kansas City, MO, but gain a few friends to guide them out (only to tragically lose them shortly thereafter). Yellowstone National Park in the Rocky Mountains of Northwest Wyoming (3:33) is another 1,200 miles away by car, going through Nebraska (as well as Montana), which, for Joel & Ellie, would have been another 17 hours tops. On foot, it's a thousand-mile journey of at least two weeks (not including camping). The towns that are brought up in conversation (Laramie, Wind River Reservation and Cody) are all located diagonally within Wyoming, so presumably it would take at least a month or two for the travelers to seek out Tommy without any close calls as dire as their pit stop in KC; Jackson is 57 miles south of Yellowstone, and 10 miles away (give or take) from the Idaho border. The fictional University of Eastern Colorado is modelled after CSU in Fort Collins, which is actually a week's ride southeast (not south) by horseback, and 460 miles east of Salt Lake City. You can look all this up on Google Maps.
I'm a middle aged guy who didnt know what the cup was for -thought it was something something birth control and my mind went racing about why this seemingly idyllic community was giving their 14 year old girls birth control. I think I owe Maria and the town a bit of an apology.
You're not the only one! I saw another streamer that thought the same thing! I think that's exactly why it's awesome they did this, because we need to educate the population more about this kind of thing :) No apologies needed!
Also how Joel got hurt in the game not realistic for this show, no human gonna survive those kinda injuries. They made all things grounded for the show.
i think he realised with the dream of Sarah at the christmas tree that he would take every chance (and every pain) to have one more day with her and he decided to take the chance with Ellie too.
Spoiler, kind of……This is the first reactor that touched upon “The choice” Joel gives Ellie. I found this aspect extremely interesting regarding the big picture of this story and the implication of the aspect of choice in the finale.
Great great episode. Like every episode so far. As far as I know, the Divacup was launched in 2003. So it's just in time for the series. Lucky. 😁 I think the reason why Henry is shown again at the beginning was for the fans, because that's exactly how the cut had been made in the game. One shot, then black, then dam. The reason why Joel doesn't teach Ellie much or let her do it things is that she wouldn't be cargo anymore. Such things create a mutual connection that Joel did not want until then. He doesn't want to give her the option to take care of him. Just like Sarah did back then. I mean she did the housekeeping, made sure he wore his shirt the right way around ect. In this episode, however, he unconsciously refers to her as family during dinner, because she is allowed to stay at the table while he expects Maria to leave. Fortunately, after the quarrel between the two, everything changed. The dog here has noticed that something is wrong with Ellie, but he has also noticed that there is no danger from her. Something Fedra's detectors can't detect. They only know black (red) and white (green), just like Fedra is. And of course, Ellie is infected, otherwise the detector would not have shown red. Who knows how many immunes have actually died from such a scanner. Dogs are the better scanners. Because of Joel's injury. I think that's done far more realistically here than in the game. I mean falling off the second floor, being impaled and then endless running to the horse without bleeding out. Piedro leaning on Bella, would certainly look funny with the difference in size. 😁 You need extreme self-control to leave something stuck in your body that you do not want to have there and does not belong there. The head must remain clear and you must be aware of what is happening to you. Among other things, you first have to be aware that you are in a state of shock. Maria to Ellie: "Be careful who you put your faith in. The only people who can betray us are the one we trust." Probably the most important sentence of this episode if not of the whole series. Maria knows people and she is no bullshit. Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon." This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his. But he does not see this so clearly at the time and still tries to prevent the inevitable. Ellie drank from Joel's liquor and it was "STILL gross". I think that was a callback to Ellie's flashback DLC. Next episode Ashley Johnson (Game Ellie) will properly get an appearance in the Ellie Flashback. This episode was a feast for everyone who played Part 2. we met Dina (Ellie yelled at her as she dined), properly Jessie (cinema), Shimmer, Bison Bar, sheeps, kids playing snowball, Astronauts, Jackson see from the inside. Simply fantastic. The campfire scene was not in the game, but was originally supposed to be included. So far, only a concept art was left in the bonus material of the game. I think the scene would have been important in the game because it underlines once again that both Marlene and Joel are absolutly sure that it is possible to produce a cure.
I felt like they showed Joel thinking about Sarah just before he turned off the light to go to bed to allude to the fact that that may have been what changed his mind about going with Ellie...that the bad dreams aren’t going to go away whether he goes or not, and this is his way of atoning for his past failures. The writing is just so good at so many points, it makes up for the very few instances where it is lacking a little. And your insight into the show is pretty good, Whimsy. I never played the game, but it is clear you have, and remembered so much of it. I’m fine with spoilers, so hearing your expectations on the upcoming episode (and next season) based on the game is great, because you always seem fairly accurate. Keep up the awesome content! ✌️
Hola Whimsy! Even if I have not played the games, I would still watch your content because I think it’s really cool and your reaction videos as well. But since I have 40 played the games, it’s all good❤
This is a late comment, but I need to point out leaving the stabby bat handle in is survivor 101. But if he galloped away with that piece of wood inside Joel his guts would have been in worse shape.
Not in my opinion, especially regarding the placement. No important organs are near there. Of course there is always a risk, but here the risk of getting it worse was not as bad as the risk of taking it out and bleeding to death. It's always a matter of what outweighs the other!
Great video! Only thing that was missing for me was the inclusion of Sarah's photo, though I imagine they'll incorporate it some way later in the show.
First of all, love your outfit! Second of all, yay, I'm excited for this! 02:15 I loooove those two. Instantly became two of my favorite characters in the series. 😂 02:55 Thought the same thing! 04:00 That's definitely a panic attack. 05:55 RETROACTIVELY HURTING US LIKE THAT! UNACCEPTABLE! 😭😭😭 09:00 The only thing I can think of why he did that is that you can't possibly know the exact point where that shot came from. Too many things it echoes off of. And if there was someone then they would've scattered and Joel and Ellie would've seen them. 09:30 Learn how to whistle! It's so easy! 😂 10:05 A dam has a turbine inside that is turned by the water. Getting electricity from that is basically a reverse electric motor. There is a coil inside and it's being moved through a magnetic field, if you change the magnetic field inside a coil it will generate electricity. That's the basic gist of it. 10:55 Makes sense that they use dogs to check for an infection. Don't think they will have the means to build those scanners. 12:00 They soooo knew that there will be a second season. They didn't just build a town for one or two fucking episode! 13:10 That MUST be Dina! Maybe Dina is older. Do we know the age? 14:30 He can and he will, Joel. 🌝 14:55 Thommy did not like that realization. 😂 16:35 Makes sense that they give him a really good excuse for not wanting to come with. 20:10 Not purple, eggplant. Maria must be Canadian. 🌝 21:10 I love this conversation so much. Maria just knows one side and judges Joel for what she knows from Thommy. Not sure if she was a great lawyer. 22:00 Makes total sense that Joel tells Thommy about her being immune. I guess that could be the only thing that would make Thommy go and take Ellie with him. That's why he joined the Fireflies and now he has a chance to make a change. 24:50 Such an amazing scene! 31:25 That annoyed look of yours. Priceless. Hahaha, love it. 😂 That episode was jaaaam pack. So next episode will be the DLC episode, I guess. Super good reaction, as always, Whimsy! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Hey whimsy! U think if Ellie ran away, it would have been more emotional for Joel and Tommy to go searching for her and finding her? Joel's PTSD made a lot of sense and I liked that aspect. I'm curious to see how they're going to pack so much into the last 3 episodes 🤔 Thx Whimsy, have a great day ❤️
the music that plays in most of the emotional scenes like bill & frank eating strawberries or joel and tom reuniting is called "It can't last"... just gonna leave that here, also yea that was dina it was semi confirmed by the show creators. great video as usual ❤
I'm sorry, I'll be copy/pasting one of my own answers on another's comment: Yes and no. There is a risk of course, but he could've held unto it, also the placement is not too bad (not near very important organs). However, taking it out is GUARANTEED bleeding profusely, whereas leaving it in has less risk overall. It's always a matter of statistics and try to get the best outcome basically
Joel had to take the broken piece of the bat out because if he left it in, getting on and riding the horse and the constant movement would have only made it worse; possibly driving it deeper.

Good, yes, however, I just do find it's too rushed (especially the university part). Miss a little bit more of clickers or runners, even for a tv-show.
