- Yo whats up!!
Today I'm super excited to show you a full tutorial on how to copy your favorite t-shirt, from start to finish. I go thru the entire process of making the patterns, cutting them out, & transferring them on to new fabric. I also show you how to sew all the pieces together to create the finished product. I am an influencer overall and now in the beginning designer phase, so I like sharing all the things I'm learning on this amazing journey.
I hope this DIY video tutorial help to inspire you to take on some projects on your own. Please leave me comments and let me know what you think and also let me know projects you would like to see me do. A full style post on how I rocked the t-shirt will be on the blog next week too so stay tuned.

Excellent!! No hipe!! No discordant music!!! So clear and well presented. I am very appreciative for this video. Thank you.
Nice beginner project, Norris. Would like to make suggestions. They're all easy and they help make the finished product look good.
1. Put your pins in sideways. It's easier to ease your material to the shape you want and easier to take the pins out as you sew.
2. Iron the shirt you're going to use and the material you're going to make the shirt with. It works better when they're both flat not stretchy.
3. When you're lining up your fabric to get ready to cut, make sure the grain of the fabric (that place where you can see the knit of the fabric) is straight and even. It keeps the shape better. If you cut it sideways or off the grain the shirt can get a funny shape.
4. Use a ball point needle. You get them the same place you get material, pins, and stuff. A regular needle can put holes in your Tshirt material because it pokes through the weaving threads. The ball point goes between the knit threads and doesn't tear them.
5. And last. Show off your finished product. You made this great shirt. We want to see it.
Danny Jane thanks for that & thanks for watching.
Excellent video and your tips. I'd add to iron seams as you go.
That's how i used to do it. But to each his own.
@@digitalbreakthroughs Thank you. I forgot that one. Glad you caught it.
Hi! I am very new to sewing, as in intro/beginners level, and I want to make a T-shirt using a bias cut. From my research it seems like it would have a very elegant, form fitting, stretchier fit. Do you guys have any tips for me on what I should do, and what I might need, that wasn't included in this video?
I know I would cut the fabric diagonally, but that's about it. Should I use a jersey/ballpoint needle? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated :)
Nice tutorial! Hint - stand your measuring tape on its edge to measure curved pieces :)
WHY HAVE I NEVER TRIED THIS, WTF
Hope the neckband fit because 11.5 plus 9.5 = 21. Then add 1/4 inch seam allowance which gives you a neckband length of 21 1/4 inches according to another tutorial. So many different ways. Sigh.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Ty for the reminder...I completely forgot about that 😱🤦♀️🥴
whaaaaaaat you can do that?!
Hey Norris, I know this was recorded sometime ago but still fresh as ever. I've done this numerous times, but luckily I had an old tee shirt that fitted me perfectly (sadly stained with bleach), so was able to seam rip it into sections, and trace the pieces onto freezer paper! I always come back to this video of yours just to make sure everything is done correctly. Thank you to you and Mimi for creating these high quality videos for us. Bless you guys.
This is the best t-shirt tutorial I've seen yet!...detailed enough to get a thorough understanding, yet simple enough to follow and duplicate...thanks sew much!
It surprised me to see a man sewing, and it shouldn't. Hopefully more people (like me) get inspired seeing you. Nice video, keep the good work.
Mónica Sánchez Thank you for watching! I agree with you, men sewing shouldn’t be such a surprise to us all especially since most tailors are guys. Well I’m here to change things!
Norris Danta Ford hi loved ur awesome sharing, and the machine brother quatro
A lot more men sew than care to admit, mostly from necessity. There is so much you can do with this simple tee shirt pattern. I am an experienced sewer who likes to see other people's work. This was quick and easy for me. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant tutorial would have loved to have seen the finished t shirt 😀
Lovaine Niblock I was thinking the same thing.
Lovaine Niblock Agreed
seriously wtf
Maybe it didn't turn out how he was expecting it to be 👁👁
Great tutorial! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Also, i appreciate the usage of the old wrapping paper. Shows people you do not have to have fancy tools to make a shirt!
Why didn't you show the finished product? I was disappointed that didn't show it!.
IKR
resist owo - he did not do it because he thought you would have yours to look at.
He has a link to the finished t-shirt in his description if you really wanna see it
It looks fineee :D
Very disappointed 😑
@@kaylinenoble1057 link is trojan.... nice try
Great video. Very clear and informative. I am a novice at t-shirts but made a few that came out ok. I make my neckband about 2 inches shorter than the neck so it isn't floppy but maybe you have never had that problem. Thanks for the tutorial!
I just started working at Joann's, seeing the cool designs while stocking inspired me to learn how to do this. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks for taking the time to show and explain your technique of garment tracing. I have most of the pattern making rulers and after watching your demo, it's time to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
This was great! Thank you so much. First time tracing my own pattern and this was really simple and well-explained, and I love the top I made, cheers!
That made sooo much more sense to me then all the webs, youtubes and blogs I've seen. I like the weights you used to hold down your pattern. Helps with time for sure. Thank you for being amazing & inspiring! Saw the finished shirt on the link you provided below in the comments. It looks really good on you. Can see why its a favorite shirt.
This is the best tutorial on doing this that I have literally ever seen. Thank you! This is gonna save me so much hassle! 😊
I love you video, it was very clear and easy to follow, well presented and thanks for not having music. I've done this in the past but never thought of using my tracing wheel, that is pure genius, accurate and so simple. Thanks so much.
Alice Crawford I love the tracing wheel idea too. And so glad there was no music!

nice job and ingenious, the right T is so hard to find, so when you do, why not make more!
Thank you! Made my first t-shirt with your tutorial. The sleeves and collar were the hardest part for sure.
Lovely tutorial, tysm! It's great to see male tailors, as a lot of tutorials here are only done by woman. I'm glad other people enjoy sewing too and get very creative with crafts!
You are very practical and go directly to the point. Excellent! Other videos are so complicated. Im starting to sew after all my life of been afraid of it. U gave me push that I needed Thank U!
Finally, you make it easy. thanks and keep it up the good work.
Truly you are a pleasure to see, listen to, and learn from Mr. Ford. I enjoyed this 'no bs' tutorial, and the straightforward affordable tools used by you don't scare me away from finally purchasing my own machine (most of the other tutorials I have seen are terrifying to my bank account and my self esteem as a total noob.)
Thank you for the video! I’m looking into making my own clothes and this definitely helped! Officially a fan!
Just bought a Singer and found your video! I am a beginner at 51 years of age. 👀😁Thank you for this video, as it was easy to understand.

I like your method, the tracing wheel, etc. measuring. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial. Showing everything and explaining as you go is very helpful.
May I offer a couple of tips? First the pins: Always place your pins perpendicular to seam line, that way if you sew over a pin, it won't break your needle. Place the pin from right to left so that you can easily remove it as you sew. Second tip: Do you know that on a sleeve, there is one mark for the front and the back will always have two. That way you will always know the front from the back of a sleeve to match it to the front and the back of your top. BTW, you're a pretty cool guy!
Amazing!! I can’t wait to try. The sleeves and neck line seem intimidating but going to watch this again lol
I love this guy. Simple clear instructions.

I recently did this for a vest , it somehow worked despite feeling like i was tracing a whole mess. this is very precise and will apply to future pattern-copying, thanks so much!
