Such a nice video, full of great ideas. I am 48 years old, old enough to know about stuff but in reality no, I don't. When I watch your videos, I feel like I am with a friend of mine and your words, your perspective gives me such motivation, that good kind of energy to keep me going about everyday life. Thanks for taking time to make these videos.

My washer broke on Monday, and honestly I feel out of sorts not being able to do my daily load or two! I never thought I'd be a person who looked to routines for sanity but after I had a chronic illness for 4 years... I find comfort in them! New washer will be here tomorrow, thank the lord! Always love hearing your words of wisdom and perspective! 💚

I keep the special things but when other sentimental things are just taking up room and I think I should keep them, I take a photo of them and then give them to charity or someone who will use them, and put the photo in an album, so all the memories are in one place to look at anytime and the album takes up less room 💕

Here’s my solution to memorabilia....I started putting all the things that are meaningful to me, things I’m not ready to throw out, things no one else wants, things I don’t want to use or display ...well, you get the idea. I put them in a Funeral bin. Yep, you read that right. These are things my children can put out at my funeral if they want. These items represent my life. It’s a cross section of things including pictures, awards, childhood things, etc. Every year I go through the bin, organize things and declutter. I’ve written little stories to go with a lot of the items. Everything I have that I think will mean anything to my daughters and grandchildren, I have given to them with the freedom to get rid of it if they want. At 74, it’s simply amazing how much memorabilia you can collect! I’m definitely an advocate of Swedish Death Cleaning, probably because I had to “clean up” after my parents and mother in law when they passed away. Oh my, what an emotional task that was, and I won’t do that to my family! All the best from Northern Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 during isolation. Stay safe!

What a great surprise to find out you are Scottish! My daughter just finished her fall semester at Uni in Stirling. Im so glad she was able to experience a study abroad program because now they have all been canceled at her school due to the virus. We visited for 10 days for Reading Week and stayed at an AirBnB on a sheep farm...absolutely loved it. That trip was a wonderful experience....we had a hard time leaving Scotland...and I hope to go back again someday when this virus hopefully goes away. Anyway, thxs for the motivational content. Love these Q&A videos Diane, thank you! My granny also loved Kelly green. I remember her in a beautiful fine knit Kelly green poloneck sweater and she would put it with navy accessories and trousers. She had such style, as yours obviously did, and money didn't come into it. She also sewed and knit so many of her and her children's clothes, including wedding and bridesmaids dresses, and even studied millinery at one point, her contemporary was Philip Treacy and she beat him to getting a wooden head form he had his eye on! It now stands proudly in my mom's hallway holding her hats. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Niamh in Dublin

A lovely video Diane. I like to be around friends but I have always valued a little time to be on my own to read or study or to just relax with a good film or TV programme. Growing up in quite a large family I would often retreat to my bedroom to read or go and play the piano in a quiet sitting room. As much as I loved my children when they between 8 and 23 years old I had my own sitting room as we had 3 reception rooms. 2 of my children would use it when it was empty to play the piano but they were often playing table tennis or table football on the evenings my husband was off or playing board games and cards with their friends in the dining room in the winter. We did many things and outings as a family but I often found the odd hour to pursue my own hobbies. My husband used to love watching football and he also had other interests so he never begrudged me having time to myself. I am so grateful. As a full time carer to him I make time for me while he is sleeping . I am hoping sea bathing will be allowed this week as a relaxation to the lockdown here in Cyprus. It has seemed a long April but we are grateful the deaths here to covid 19 are still around the 20 mark which of course is awful for the families involved . Because of lockdown the flu and pneumonia figures this year are haven't been as bad as usual .
Have a good week with your family and enjoy swimming with your lovely besties
    xxxx Margaret

It was almost eye-opening how I would so often get stuck in my head when I hadn't even started my day/gotten out of bed... I’ve wondered about the languages you speak. I’ve heard that Danish and Swedish are very difficult for English speakers to learn.
One thing about keeping mementos that you touched on is to display them, use them, or have a rotation plan to display. I love the concept of using “good” stuff in everyday life. I’ve stopped putting mementos away in a closet. The items do no good there, I’ve been sorting through closets with stuff that I packed away 20 years ago. I forgot I had things!

Hi, Diane, haha : are you always happy? Who is? I am most of the time, but if I haven’t the possibility to 'go into my bubble' like you called it, I get a bit nervous and stressed. I use to say: well I’ll have a little reading hour... It seems to irritate people but I can’t help it.
You’ve a passion for languages, too and you really needed it in your job. I did use my language passion a bit at court because I was working with foreign affairs, but of course we hat professionals for translating. For me, it was (and is) fun to understand structures of other languages and it’s such a joy to be understood.
Your easy routines for self care are enjoyable, although I LOVE to go to manicure and pedicures... I’m waiting to support my dear young girlfriend with her saloon again. She’s now in big financial trouble like so many others. I was relieved to hear, how long you’re doing flylady...it looks kind of perfect😉, and I’m struggling so much, hopping on and off. The allergy is so bad this year, I feel already tired, when I'm dressed to shoes😅... Thank you so much for sharing, keep happy and healthy, love, Monika❣️

Lovely video to get to know you better, Diane :) :)
I used to love moving the furniture around bc it kept me from getting bored with the room. But now, we do not have the lay-out to move things around differently (window/wall placement, etc). I think though, we feel good about not moving things round today bc we have a clear space without all of the clutter so we enjoy it as is!
I am working through all of the saved kid's papers, as of the past month. I had saved EVERYTHING. I think we save all of the things bc at the present time, when we are saving it, it is meaningful/relate-able. This makes it difficult to let it go when they are now 19 & 22. I will take your advice about the note on the calendar! I am good about not keeping too many things when they do not pertain to the kids. Hmmm What is a "jotter?"

Hair dresser appointments...I remember those. I am considering going all grey and the transition line from grey to bright red is shocking. If I go all #stayinandgrayin I may have to revisit my old punk rock energy for the transition. I will have to reread the DYT info on gray hair for type poo e 3. My roots are very type 2 and that is not me.
I always love seeing your grannie's necklace. Today I loved the shapes that your jacket was creating against the green blouse. The green crescent moon atop the tall triangle reminded me of sculptures and paintings by Joan Mir[ó. And the movement of the shapes was very animated. The graphic quality of the shapes reminds me of your love for graphic elements of stripes and polka dots.
Your living room furniture is inspirational. I love the wall hung book cases and the sectional up on legs so you can quickly clean under everything. ❤👍

We are Swedish but my kids speaks mostley english. My daughter Lily-Rose begun to speak English with me and my hubby so that her littlebrother David wouldn't understand what we said. She was about 7-8 yo then and David about 3-4 yo. Well it "backfired" for Lily-Rose, because David learned English very fast and when he went to 1:st grade, the teacher har to finns hon to speak Swedish because everyone in hus class couldn't understand him. Now in 2:nd grade he have another teacher and he answer David in English if he asks a question in English, it doesn't matter what subject they learn about. I love Davids New teacher. We suspekt that David have dyslexia and belong to the 3% who learn English very easy. David have better "grades" in English than Swedish 😉

I love your videos and I’m fairly new to your channel so I’m catching up. You may have answered this or it may be too personal and I certainly understand if it is, but because I’ve had a serious illness in my immediate family, I wondered what it was and who it was in your family. My daughter was diagnosed this last year with several serious autoimmune diseases and it was very stressful to say the least. She is doing much better with a lot of different daily medications, but with so many unknowns and symptoms, I worry and get myself in a panic. I certainly wish I shared your optimistic attitude, as I go immediately to doom and gloom.

Multi-linguist Diane good for you!! Tuesday!!! major day for my garden, new moon two days ago so I have to clean the garden i.e. uproot weeds, and more important to spray for aphids and various insects the roses and my fruit-bearing trees (orange, tangerine, lemon, apricot and pear trees plus a small vine). F.y.i. I use only ecological methods like onion juice, cinnamon, banana peels, and a mixture of paraffin oil and water!! Have a nice day everyone and stay safe!!!

Love your chat and q&a videos! It is great that you can speak different languages. Wish I could learn another language! Random question, do you use a Roku or smart TV for watching your Netflix shows? Do you have any favorite RUclipsrs that you watch? Thanks for this lovely and positive videos!

Happy terrific Tuesday to you too Diane. I was wondering which language would be easier for an English speaker to learn Danish or Swedish? I have heard they are similar. Just wondering what your opinion is.

    • @DianeinDenmark
      @DianeinDenmark  4 года назад +2

      Definitely Swedish! 😃

    • @celimendez7620

I've lived in both countries, and Swedish is easier. Much, much easier. I tend to get Swedish pronunciation right 95% of the time, while my Danish other half always makes me repeat my words when I try to speak a bit of Danish 😂. It gets old fast.

Do you, or anybody here, have any recommendations on how to adapt the flylady system for a chronic ilness and limited energy?
I have started doing the homebelessing not at once but spread out over the week, a little task every day. But with that, and the routines, 10min zone cleaning, and 10min deluttering, I still crash into a malaise, and my selfcare / personal hygiene suffer for this.
So I'm curious to how others do it.

Hi Angelic! I give info on how to adapt for chronic illness in the Flylady Refresher Course videos Here's the link for you 👋ruclips.net/p/PLxIYCyTLBED-1vdMwaAhm7Z_3Br__gals

@@sandyh8755 No, not yet. I had gone through the refresher course last week, before asking this question, but did not notice any special advise for 'spoonies'. No luck with google in general either, trying to find someone that goes more in detail for this. I will go though Diane's refresher couse again.

Oh boy, do I ever understand about the feet. I don't want anyone touching my feet. My mom said I was born that way, because I was that way from infancy. It's really a terrible feeling. Bad news is, I passed that gene along to one of my sons and both grandsons are like that. You think I should blame my Scottish genes, lol?I have a Scottish and Irish background (ancestors).
