  • We caught a couple of BART's Fleet of the Future trains at Rockridge station, with majestic clouds and the SF skyline making the experience all the more scenic.
Rockridge station offers some of the most alluring views of the BART system when you walk to the western end of the platform, where the entire skyline of San Francisco can be viewed as trains round the bend in the distance by Children's Hospital. It is also the only single-line station in Oakland.

by any chance, do you know why some of these new bart cars are passing through LA? parallel to the L Line on 210 in fact.

You should get a radio scanner so you can listen to their communications(to my knowledge isn't encrypted) because you might hear some interesting stuff and might get a better insight. Also, don't get a analog scanner, they use digital system because "talkgroups" are limited to digital radios.

The Bombardier BART Fleet of the Future is slowly becoming the only type series operating with the Legacy Fleet going into retirement.

I really wish that BART figured out some kind of a sound screen for these highway median stations. But I guess this would be a very expensive and unlikely upgrade. Not much ridership improvement potential and probably no one will agree to pay some kind of a parcel tax to build it.

@@TohaBgood2 actually, the yellow line has good ridership to create those sound barries and seal the station from the outside.

@@Alejandro-vn2si I feel like this will either be done on the cheap (some super basic metal fence replacing the chicken wire fence on the highway side), or they will keep deferring it into perpetuity.
What I would actually like to see would be either fully enclosed stations with platform screen doors, or just platform screen doors. That would take care of both the noise and safety.
But probably too expensive to actually happen.

@TohaBgood2 we should tell BART that we need those barriers! They actually had a plan to install screendoors but once the legacy fleet was retired. Now, we need to wait until final retirement and start working towards sealing freeway median stations! It's not impossible, we just need to demand BART and other government bodies that we want this!

    • @TohaBgood2

@@Alejandro-vn2si Yes, fully agreed. But BART will mostly likely die in 2026-27 when the current state funding runs out. Ridership is not recovering fast enough to save the system. They will have to go to 30 min or 1 hour frequencies and that will start the 2-3 year death spiral.
I don't think that they will have the time to implement anything like this, sadly. And since the survival of the system is at stake, I want them to just focus on that. Anything that is not directly improving safety and cleanliness needs to be pushed back. BART needs to focus on addressing the main rider concerns, which are safety and cleanliness.
If they survive post 2026-27 then I will gladly join you in this advocacy. In the meantime, I only care about more cops, more security guards/ambassadors, and more fare inspectors!

BART board member Debora Allen said BART will not post CST video of gang assaults because they would
create "racially insensitive commentary". In other words, political correctness is more important to BART than
    the safety of its commuters.
