Highway patrol needs a complete reform. They're not real cops, they're more like nightclub bouncers who's job is almost entirely devoted to targeting and issue fines to anyone for anything they can get away with, as long as they're in a vehicle. That said, you should really have had an engineering/compliance certificate.

Their general duties colleges call them "cockroaches" because they hide & scurry about. General duties do the real work & a majority of actual policing because they are the 1s who turn up at crimes. I do admit that hwy patrol do see a lot of horrible stuff that many of us will never see.

What annoys me is that a police officer can decide if a vehicle is not safe or compliant. They aren't a licensed mechanic nor engineer. If they think your car is questionable they should refer you to a qualified person for inspection. Best of luck with getting it registered again mate and nice car! Keep up the videos.

Perhaps the video should be titled “The cost of driving an illegally modified car in Australia”.
I think a lot of the way cops operate and behave is bullshit and/or revenue raising but in this case he has only himself to blame.

Yep, it's so sad that we can't just put any old shitbox Datsun Sunny with a supercharged LS on the road. If youre into modding, you need to do it properly while you comply with the rules, regulations and laws.
Modding is great, just make sure that you either have a comprehensive knowledge of the rules, hire someone who does, or just build a track car (that complies with the track regs i.e. noise, safety) .
We live in a society where we have to follow the norms acceptable to the majority, and tossers going beyond those norms just make the rules tighter and tighter for those of us who love the hobby.

    • @diannafiredal
      @diannafiredal Месяц назад +2

All of these things are great, but there are rules for modifying vehicles and if you fall foul of them (or a cop suspects you are falling foul of them and you don't have the paperwork to show that's not the case), those things aren't (and shouldn't be) mitigating factors. They're irrelevant to the issue.

Oh man, I feel for you, I had an R34GTR, super clean and because NSW Transport didn't like it, they just said it was stolen when i tried to get it registered there from buying it in Victoria, no reason, they just said stolen.
They wanted to grind back my firewall and check how the Vin tag was installed and I said no way, who is going to pay to have it all put back to standard? They said I had to.
Botany bay Transport department sent me to forensic police, I passed all their tests and they could not understand why my car was even being checked, the cop was really good and a car guy himself.
It passed their x-ray machine etc, sent back to Botany bay and they then said, we don't care you passed forensics testing, we want to grind back your VIN firewall or you are not registering that car here in NSW.
I left NSW and moved to QLD, they are all a bunch of thugs and bullies mate. I was going to move anyway, so that sort of worked out. Thankfully the guy I bought it in Victoria was a friend by this stage and he allowed me to keep it regoed in his name for over a year, top fellow.
I hope you get through what you have to, but it won't be easy sadly, you will be hit more red tape and irrational BS harassment.
Sadly a few years later in QLD, I got more harassment, my car was mint, stupidly clean as and was actually the fastest 34GTR in Australia at the time on a circuit, but you could never tell.
I had blue plates for everything and I got stopped one night, then told my seats were illegal (Stock 34 GTR seats) and my car was too low on an uneven footpath. They measured it at 97mm.....lol.
Told to go for a roadworthy and show them within 2 weeks, it passed flying colours, but the cop then said, we don;t care, now we want you to take it a bigf inspection station now (moved goalposts again). I had enough, I deregistered, waited 3 months and got it registered again to shake them off my tail, it did work.
I sold it in the end and went full race track racing with an LMP3 Sports Prototype and never looked back, the roads suck, the Australian harassment is bonkers mate and if you are right, they just push and push until they get something, even if they are wrong, corrupt and are just straight up thugs !!!!!!
Good luck mate, i truly wish you all the best.

most of these anti fun regulations came out more than 25 years ago when the demographic for voters was still dominated by boomers who had to control what anyone younger than them was doing.
maybe due to not wanting to feel old they did this to infantilize young adults so they could pretend that they themselves weren't over 40.
from alcohol restrictions on certain "premixed" drinks to nightclub curfews to limits on what cars young people could drive or what mods they could have or how many passengers they could have with them and dangerously limited max speeds on freeways to curfews on driving after midnight and being stuck on a "provisional' licence for 4 years with constant police harassment and "defects" for petty or entirely made up issues during that time cause you had to wear a big red or green "p plate" at all times so they know who to "randomly" pull over.
all this due to the media scaring the boomers with edited footage from japanese hill runs and drifting that they claimed was local or random vids of $500 shitboxes with welded diffs doing circlework in empty industrial sites in the middle of the night while calling these shitboxes "high performance" in the same way that california calls almost any rifle an "assault weapon".
this caused the boomers to cry out for more and harsher restrictions and laws on the young.
this is what happens when the old outnumber the young. you get "get off my lawn" laws.
laws that seem like the restrictions that a comedically overprotective mother on a sitcom would give their teen.
this country hates its young. don't blame the millennials for these laws. blame boomers and gen x.

    • @quanthonytrang
      @quanthonytrang 2 месяца назад +3

I'm a gen X. The problem is that both sides are from the same coin. The policies they introduce are usually similar and rarely is challenged. In 2004, a GTR driven by a teen, splits in half - knee jerk, P plater high performance vehicle ban. Both parties pushed for that.
Anyways, both parties are disconnected from reality and neither party represents the average Australian. Most people are uneducated and try to vote for the lesser of evils. Unfortunately, more money you have, naturally the more propaganda you can spread.
And also, as the population continues to shrink, Boomers dying and Millennials not giving birth, you will find that marketing and pulling power will go to the Millennials. Soon Millennials will be the largest part of the population and will have the most influence in the government.

I kept the tires legal size and modified a standard Mazda air cleaner to fit on the 48 ida Webber carbie. They couldn’t defect me because I had interstate plates. I made a baffle that fit in the tail pipe to silence it when it was warming up not to annoy the neighbours. Because it was still a 12a, they couldn’t touch it. Because the tires were a legal size, couldn’t touch me. The brakes were beefed up but looked standard, they looked stock and they didn’t know what the were looking at. The suspension was beefed up but was painted a stock black, they thought it was standard. I’m about to buy an old ‘80’s CJ5 Jeep that came with no doors or roof, a v8 and huge tires and side pipes, it’s perfectly legal but if I was to do it with a newer Jeep, I would be just like you. So u probably can’t run a high flow cat until u pass the test then swap it out.
U also have to run a an air filter setup into an air box and not an open pod filter or no filter at all. The BOV must recirculate back into the air intake as well as the catch can if u have one. Can’t vent anything and definitely don’t run a screamer pipe, you’d near get locked up lol

This is why I only build factory turbo/cars with a turbo model. This nearly happened to me, 400hp MPS6 on Green Ps, pulled over in Hornsby late at night, "yeah nah officer it's totally stock and legal", went back to his car, obviously defeated didnt even open the bonnet sent me on my way little did he know upgraded turbo, front mount, everything done lol. Laughed my ass off otw home.
Now I've moved to an NB MX-5, will be doing low mount turbo kit, same story, nah officer its a stock turbo car (mine not so, but when I put my rego in to repco/supercheap it says it is since there was a turbo NB 🤣).
Its a shame you got cooked but tbh, you need to hide stuff better. These dickheads are ruthless. My intercooler will be painted black and hidden from the numberplate mount in my grill. No seats with brands embroidered into them (I have kevlar bucket seat with no branding), reuse stock top hats on coils to hide ricer branding, you gotta do everything.
At the end of the day, ACAB. Cant even put cute christmas lights on my MX-5 without being skullf***ed by the dogs. Part of why I'm so hellbent on moving overseas at one point.

Hi mate, when I got my Lexus RC years ago I thankfully went to the guy that did the window Tinting for Lexus and Toyota and going direct it only cost me $150 and is still going strong with zero issues over 7 years later.
He told me at the time though what was the darkest window tint legal etc and ensured it was within spec.
You can’t add tint to that top section of the windscreen like you did though unless it came factory like that on the windscreen like many cars do now.
Not sure about noise factor though as had no issues with a Invidia Quad exhaust system for years now and no issues with highway patrol. It does look stock the way it fits so well though.
I used to always get warnings from Cops when I had a loud exhaust on a Subaru I used to own though.
I think also really dark tint when the car has dark paint just makes it look darker in direct sunlight.
As for pod filters they have been a illegal for a long time. I was asked to remove mine from the Subaru too.
I was very close to a defect on that one but they gave me a warning instead.

Being a HWP policeman does mental damage. I had a school friend who was one for a few years. He was great guy at school but after a few years I could not even talk to him he was so deranged. He eventually left on account of mental illness (as I think most of them do these days). I saw him a few times years after and he was totally cured on account of having some normal job for a few years. Back to being an OK guy. This may be a single anecdotal story but I think it's probably the reason why, statically, the vast majority of the older ones that keep working are complete loons.

Adding my, 2 cents here. The red sticker is because of the safety stuff. Steering wheel quick release. Rationale replacing a factory airbag for non airbag steering wheel can be explained as while not being a risk to anyone other than the driver, you must not make modifications that lower the vehicle occupant safety. No airbag means greater risk of trauma and potential cost to society in the way of onflowing affect from what amounts to a long butterfly effect list of things. I. E medical costs, lost productivity, ptsd of first responders, effects on their family etc, Sounds wild but this is how road safety enforcement is justified.
