Yeah, Australia is a horrible place for car enthusiasts. So much for being the “lucky country”. Our government and authorities are obsessed with keeping a very tight grip on everyone. I’ve happily spent the last 2 years away as an expat.
100% Agree, Australia is the WORST place in the world for a car enthusiast. I hate how we cannot do anything without the constant threat of a yellow sticker defect or impound. Unfortunately those idiots that go around and do burnouts in the intersections and injure people that ruin it for all of us. Nanny Country!
You are a gullible fool, the police don't need an excuse to harass enthusiasts as they are a constant stable source of revenue, they would target enthusiasts with the support of boomers with or without these "idiots" you attempt to blame
Have a 1100whp vf gts with drag radials I drive twice a week and have for years and never had an issue. Never had an issue with my 720whp vl turbo either lol. Drive like a flog and you’ll get it though.
the fines are objectively disproportionately very high in Australia, but not just for traffic related stuff. its generally a political n easy thing to adjust to pander to a lawnorder voter without really doing anything. stats show getting a fine even small can correct behaviour, the size of the fine [ ie making it bigger] rarely improves social outcome, n at a point can be negative . [ ie people loose licence for non pmt huge fine - little incentive to fix issue but still need transport n often times end up non care attitude n many more infringements that arise later that would not of ocured - no upside to society for this situation that could of been avoided in first contact]
So true. I’m in my 50s now and it’s far worse than when I was your age. Australia is a nanny state. The fines and penalties are way out of proportion to actual danger. Ridiculously over the top now. You’re not allowed to enjoy being a car enthusiast. Cars driving around with no brake lights, bald tyres etc, they don’t care but have a nice set of wheels and you’re a target
@@nibba5692 WTF? I most certainly did not! I always voted to maximise freedoms as much as possible, hence why I was drawn to this video. In fact, I even ran in an election with the Liberal Democrats to try to roll back the nanny state. You know nothing about me yet sit behind a keyboard thinking you know me. Blame the boomers as they were the largest voting block and presided over governments during this time.
Like the one they stacked on the train line cos they weren't pursuing someone they said lmao absolute fucking liars and grubs and who also can't drive but send it built up areas and end up on tracks 🤣🤣
bro Australia is so antisocial Im only 14 and I want an M4 but now I'm scared can't even get my dream car. At the same time we have had police officers come to our school and tell us to pursue our dreams.
@ no EPA, no Dob in for noisy exhausts. If your a dickhead on the street they will come down on you, but that’s on you. If you do the wrong thing, cop it sweet. You know there were plenty of times you didn’t get caught.
Appreciate the content bud.. some valid points here. The main one being, we live under a money hungry tyrannical gov. Speaking from experience, nothing has really changed in that sense of modifying cars in Aus.. in that, it's quite the same when I was on my P's (10 or so years ago), except the cars were different + now there's much more standing around at meets. With respect, the new standard of gen Z's who drive dad's VW, merc or BMW.. these are not slow cars, heavy, robotic things, in most cases with a proper loud exhaust & crackle tune, really obnoxious to the non-initiated car folk. Statistically speaking, P platers are less experienced, mostly attention seeking.. so naturally, you will be targeted. I'm Syd based, my first car was an s15, had other JDM cars, now own a somewhat heavily modified FD.. but it's quiet and doesn't draw negative attention. Not once, have I been pulled over. I drive like a decent human being & If I want to push the car, I go to the track.. seems to have worked for me. The amount of times I get a P plater drive on my arse, wanting to engage in some form of reaction.. literally everytime I take the car out, amazes me.. seems like everyone has a point to prove. In short, this topic can be perceived differently for many.. I find that it pays to keep a low profile.
All good points. The amount of times I’m walking around my neighborhood (Sydney based) and some dude floors a Golf R, or a BRZ to kick in the crackle tune, it’s just pure cringe and obliterates any support..even from car guys like me. I’m in a tuned M2, and when I’m around people, I go in stealth mode. Cops leave me alone and I get on with life. Different scenario of course out on empty country roads and early morning freeways!
Subtle mods for the win. Nothing better than doing mild acceleration / rev matching within the limits and not letting everyone within 3 blocks radius know you're a petrol head!
You're in the most militant state in Australia. I'm in regional NSW, and don't run in to issues. As long as you're sensible about how you drive and where you put your foot down. The tax hungry governments here are the biggest problem.
Ever since we lost the car manufacturers in Australia, 🇦🇺 has gone down the woke shitter Chasing unicorns and rainbows 🌈 and delusional ideology 😢??? 😎Make Australia Great Again❤
i really get what you’re saying about younger generations not bothering. i’m 20 and i’m finally looking into getting a project car to properly learn how to work on cars myself (something like a toyota starlet or k11 micra) and the question i’m asking myself at every stage of planning is “will a cop pull me over for this / could i get defected for this”. i’m not planning anything radical, just a very basic oem+ build kept clean and well maintained, but i can’t help but be constantly paranoid, feeling as if won’t even be worth trying.
The worst part I feel like falcon and Commodore drivers have it the worst and if you're car is too dark, rims too flashy, interesting headlights, non standard bonnet, a sticker. So much for patriotism and our car heritage.
Yeah I agree I got done on double demerits doing 4ks over the speed limit as a p plater and I went to court and they extended my sentence from 3 months to 4 months bc I hadn’t learnt my lesson plus a 300 dollar fine plus court fees and tell me how that is fair in Australia.
man thats tooo much bs and here in america I thought Cali was strict. come to the US my guy specifically texas you’ll love it coming from someone who moved from aus to the US
I’m in Sydney, and have a garage of many Supercars that I use now and then. I do 40km in my technica and get pulled over. So I decided to get the new model 3 performance which is basically quicker than most cars on the road, and I’ll be launching it frequently and never get in trouble. Ye it’s electric but it’s a cracka of a car for a daily drive. Ill jump in my f8 tributo or gt3 rs on the weekend but ill always get pulled for no reason. Give me a warning and then im off and then get pulled over 2km down the road by a different highway patrol
Hi well done to you to have such machines. Moved here from Melbourne. Where the f are there roads here without potholes? Preferably without speed cameras. A man’s gotta hear the V8
Australia is definitely a nightmare when it comes to being for car enthusiasts, my best friend’s uncle drove unlicensed in the old Holden Commodore right past the police car and they did not do anything, also not to mention the car was unregistered… but as soon as you go past any fancy vehicle they will immediately get you.
I got EPA on my M3 a week after putting the exhaust on i have had 3 major defects on my other car for bags, wheels, low and seats and 2 of those times i was just parked up in my car at this point i mainly just keep my car stock or oem + just to enjoy it peacefully I’m scared of even putting the exhaust back on just because of the time it takes to clear it if i get a EPA again
most of these anti fun regulations came out more than 25 years ago when the demographic for voters was still dominated by boomers who had to control what anyone younger than them was doing. maybe due to not wanting to feel old they did this to infantilize young adults so they could pretend that they themselves weren't over 40. from alcohol restrictions on certain "premixed" drinks to nightclub curfews to limits on what cars young people could drive or what mods they could have or how many passengers they could have with them and dangerously limited max speeds on freeways to curfews on driving after midnight and being stuck on a "provisional' licence for 4 years with constant police harassment and "defects" for petty or entirely made up issues during that time cause you had to wear a big red or green "p plate" at all times so they know who to "randomly" pull over. all this due to the media scaring the boomers with edited footage from japanese hill runs and drifting that they claimed was local or random vids of $500 shitboxes with welded diffs doing circlework in empty industrial sites in the middle of the night while calling these shitboxes "high performance" in the same way that california calls almost any rifle an "assault weapon". this caused the boomers to cry out for more and harsher restrictions and laws on the young. this is what happens when the old outnumber the young. you get "get off my lawn" laws. laws that seem like the restrictions that a comedically overprotective mother on a sitcom would give their teen. this country hates its young. don't blame the millennials for these laws. blame boomers and gen x.
You have to analyse the vehicle standard and certification laws to understand how officers approach a modified vehicle. Honestly the only to loosen the red tape is to form a lobby/association similar to trucking, property, etc to persuade MP's.
I was cruising home from work at 4am, got to a really steep hill and just let the car go, no throttle but also no brake sitting behind a bush at the bottom of the hill a hwy patrol, nothing else on the road obviously no pedestrians perfectly straight road, was doing 120 when I got to the bottom of the hill, I knew I was speeding but I wasn't foot to the floor sending it like crazy, turns out for some reason this dead 3 lane road is 60kmh $900 fine and 12month license suspension. Lucky I wasn't on throttle because I definitely would have copped a defect and an impound if I had been the car has an external gate with screamer so it's quiet off throttle but as soon as you hit like 15psi and the gate starts to crack open it's deafening.
Talking about epa, i have a DC5 and during my Ps i had no exhaust mods full stock but its lowered to legal height including lips n sideskirts u get the vision again, stock exhaust and I still got epa notice 🤦♂️
100% Agree. Not to mention the legalitys of certain mods will be approached differently depending on what cop pulls you over. Running to low was always the 100mm rule, they've now implemented center of wheel to top of guard being within a certain range from factory height. Bottom line is, if you're pulled up as a car enthusiast, they'll try find something they can fine you for..
The EPA thing is what fucks me off the most. I had exactly what you described. To make matter worse as well, closest place that could test was over an hour away and no availability until AFTER the period. I had to beg for an extension otherwise rego cancelled. Didn't even touch the car, passed absolutely fine but yep, had to take a day off work and pay $130 for the pleasure. Guilty until proven innocent.
The i30n isn't p plate legal, but I've seen a i30 sedan N on p plates and as well hearing stories on social media of how people can get away with droving them on p plates. 8:38 so they check fast cars regularly, but then they let those with utes and suvs get away with it??
South aussie is even worse now, They now have a new licence for high-performance cars, yet XR6Turbo fits into those specs Im thinking of moving now as it's beyond ridiculous
Good video. It does suck a bit! I haven't had a negative interaction with a cop. My car is modified, they aren't looking for engineering approval. Generally if you don't act like a meathead, cops are usually good imo
I'm pretty sure one car got impounded 2 streets away from me. It was a Holden and it was the nicest sounding thing. it was all specked up and looks like it was driven on track and then it just diseapered 3 months ago and I haven't seen it since.
Next problem is the regulations on the car manufacturers.. less and less V10 and V8… some of the new AMG series is whit 4 cylinder ( A45s, CLA45s, C63s EP, GT43, GLC63, C43 ) 😢😢 And all kind of other regulations is killing the car enthusiast market so it is only the super rich that can enjoy a real car.. I work hard minimum 37 hours a week and whit one man income and a house I can not afford much more than a VW Polo GT I like to buy the older AMG C43 at list it is a 3L V6.. but already that is out of my budget 😢
As a young guy who is trying to rebuild up an old car im afraid that whatever i do. Even if its right at the time i finish it i bet the laws will.change and take away everything ill be working my ass off to build. Im scared to even try buy a car so i can fix this old ass.shitbox im in at the moment which is a HJ45 (old ass landcruiser, cool as hell and build when toyota landcruiser was more than a name). Ive talked to cops before, ive been pulled up to a rbh were i had a yarn with the cops and my mate got defected litteraly right behind me. My car has maybe a couple years left to live chassis wise, what isnt rusted is covered in oil leaks, my windscreen has cracks and chips in it and my tyres are like 10 years old. Yet fixing this poor old thing seems like a worse option then letting it die due to the stupid laws. In the region i live in now cops have been overly fucking brutal with defects, nearly all my mates have been slapped with one and i would trust their cars woth my life more than nancy over the street with a bashed out lancer her son got her with no floor in the back which wont get a 2nd look. Everytime i see a cop car or a rbt i get freaked out as if im doing something wrong despite following the laws and being 19 in a 4x4 i get treated the same way. This living under fear, living under oppressive control needs to be fucking stopped.
for me the most annoying part is how arrogant and completely ignorant the police are. every time i've been pulled over the cop has been insanely arrogant, and when i was defected, the officer genuinely had no idea what he was looking at. tried to get me for an "oil leak" when it was just a bit of a dirty engine bay (30 year old car), wheels to big for the car when they were within legal size and tried to claim my seatbelts didn't catch when they caught perfectly fine. im all for enforcing the law, but it'd be nice if the cops had some humility and didn't pretend to be an expert at something they're not
This is the exact same for us fourby owners, 99% of us drive normally on public roads but we get instant defected when we pass a cop, even if the car is completely stock or engineered for the mods legal or mod plate required
honestly, it all depends on how you drive and what you do to your car. I have an NB Miata. It’s got an STi wing, an RX-7 diffuser, lowered to just about 105mm, and has a noticeably loud (but not obnoxious) exhaust. It’s got 15x8 +25 wheels, bringing the track width very close to the +25 increase in track width allowed in QLD. I daily drive the thing, doing about 60 km per day. I see cops almost everyday. Never once did they pull me over. Probs because I usually drive 10 under. Honestly, it’s not as bad as it seems. If you modify according to the rules and law, nothing to worry about. If you disagree with the law and decide to modify your car the way you like it, then be prepared to be pulled over when a cop sees you. I’ve seen cars with obnoxious body kits that the cops let pass by. But I’ve also seen clean builds get pulled over and got a defect because they didn’t have a mod plate for their seats, or have a ground clearance below 100mm. All of which are already clearly defined by the relevant TMR of QLD laws.
i didnt realise you had to be on those l/p plates for so long in victoria, here in tassie its l plates for a year, rep p's for a year and green p's for a year
Aftermarket gearnobs, underglow, tinted break and headlamps, dark or mirror tints, fibreglass bodyskits, sound systems too loud, gauges above the steering wheel, wheels over 2 sizes bigger than stock, wide tyres and spacers, aftermarket break and headlamps, ride height, aftermarket steering wheels, bucket seats, wide wong spoilers, loud exhausts, pil catch cans, any air intake with pod (unless in enclosed box, but thats a dicey one), blowoffs valves, aftermarket front moint intercoolers, cabron fibre hoods or boot lids, aftermarket mirrors, big decals on the windows, aftermarket horns... and many, mannny, mannnnnny more. There is some mods that can be done a legal way or mods that are adr approved. But its really not worth it going that route.
Everything is illegal, there is no such thing as legal modification in Australia no matter how much the "just engineer it" cukks scream, any mod is illegal and not getting caught is all just luck
The exemption for high powered vehicles gets abused all the time. The law states if you A) can't afford a car that complies or B) is your families only car
This is very interesting. I lived in victoria for the first 18 months of me coming to australia and i didnt see much of the car culture because it was my beginning and didnt have the money to have a performance car. Fastforward i moved to WA and owned multiple sports cars my loudest one being the e90 335i with catless downpipes and full exhaust sustem. Hybrid turbos and all the mods that come woth upgraded turbos. Not once i was pulled over not even once. Fines are a bit lower here too not by much tho but at least u dont need a roadworthy certificaate every time u buy a car. Id say for a big population country like victoria this is truly horrible. Move to WA mate it might not be europe but its definitely way way better than victoria. Good work mate, first time came across ya. Subscribed
I'm split here. I'm very much a car guy, worked in the Industry for 30 years, live in the northern suburbs of Melbourne ..but I've seen some horrible hooning, VN-VX Commodores with the arse sagging on the ground, 20-inch chrome wheel on the front and a 14 or 15 inch steelie on the back. Some of the tyre marks these people leavve behind in quiet suburban streets is disgusting and unfair to residents who need to look at this for the next couple of years. These people deserve everything they get and MORE, no sympathy. On the other hand I got to a lot of car shows and meets with my son, I have a nice car (Lexus IS350), no crazy mods just a beautiful tastefully specced machine, never any trouble there, and tbh, I have noticed a lot more car shows and meets, rather than less, eg Killer Cars, Blossom Society, Classic Japan, Campello Euro vs JDM, Motor Ex, Motors and Masterpieces and many little local cars and coffee gatherings. All that said, Victoria is ridiculousy draconian and they really need to focus on the hardcore dickheads driving like maniacs rather than you're average car enthusiast.
Honestly bro I bought one of the only Japan imported Volvo S60's with T8 engine and tuned the thing a bit but kept the stock exhaust and even removed the R design body kit and slapped 16" wheels to make it look 100% nanny car hahah. The car is a complete sleeper, the police have no idea that it has nearly 700 BHP, and I am loving every moment in this sleeping BEAST lol The police in Australia, especially in Victoria will jump a dead body to give you a speeding fine 🤣
2035 isnt going to happen. but the quality of cars has already taken a big hit. eu regulations now on new cars are insane. the uk isn't in the eu but the uk is a nobody and the manufacturers still sell the car with the same eu regulations. The 20mph within city areas isn't so bad but the speed limits being lowered all around the country are stupid. A road that used to be 60 is now a 30 in my local area. everyone still does 40-50 and wants to do 60-70 but doesn't in case a camera van appears. You'd be screwed. Construction everywhere getting done at a slow pace. Journeys now take 30% longer than they used to. Doing 0mph on a motorway is just the daily norm now. I've been on the m25 and have had to drive at 0mph and wait on the motorway each time (with no accidents too). the uk needs to focus on its economy and stop acting like it can afford the luxury of feeling good about everything it does.
It's a complete joke being a car/motorcycle guy in Australia. As a photographer specialising in roadside photography you just don't see many people being able to enjoy their vehicles without shitting themselves about a cop around the next corner. Watching pullover videos from overseas where they get let off with warnings for stuff you'd get borderline executed for by Australian cops is insanity. I shoot roads similar to Tail of the Dragon in the states and I can only dream of that sort of road where it's well known as an amazing road to drive/ride and it's celebrated - here in Queensland we have Mount Glorious which is an amazing road to ride and/or drive and while people run the gauntlet on it of course it's ridiculously heavily policed and any sort of enjoyment is stamped out if spotted. It's insane.
Personally i might move to the USA after i turn 20, my parents say that it would be stupid, but think about it. Its my passion. Why should i give up what im most passionate about in my life, just for the government who wants to control and grip me to follow specifications made by people who arent even qualified mechanics.
Not just cars. Australia ruins anything. Music festivals are done for example. Also internet use is extremely strict. New Zealand has far better freedom.
What is a modification? Are using non OEM parts regarded as modifications? What if your car is 50 years old and OEM parts are long gone and to keep the car running and roadworthy you must use aftermarket or non standard parts or parts from a later model, is that modifying? Who's says those parts are no good? The aftermarket parts business is massive, are they now saying you can't get parts from a parts store like Repco, Auto One, Summit ect?
This is really sad, in our modern era where there’s so many new threats and dangers to the general public, whether they’re digital or physical, how is doing a little pull on an empty road in the middle of the night causing a threat to anyone. Our government attempting to disguise this into anything other than a cash grab is truly pathetic. Stay safe out there gang 😮💨
by memory if your car comes stock with 18inch your allowed 20inch your allowed 30% tent even though some cars are sold with 20% and with 4x4 your allowed a 2 inch lift as well and your allowed to lower your car only to a some point im not 100% sure since im fully licensed i haven't been pulled over for a long time i think our police in vic just target younger drivers as a dominance thing
thankfully i live in canberra we have pretty good laws here, im gonna be getting a stage 2 328i soon and i was scared but i did my research and it fine in canberra, but im a bit scared to go out of state with it
Makes me happy I live in SA, even though we have some of the toughest modification laws, as long as you arent over the top cops are fairly chill. Cant imagine living in VIC 💀
Been a car guy here in Victoria for a long time and it sucks. What you didn't mention is that defect notice also means you cannot even sell the car until the notice is cleared. Get them to hate your car enough and it turns into a blacklist where even with an engineers certificate you cannot register the car at all EVER. I know because it happened to me... some kid got a cheap set of wheels with a free car because I couldn't do anything with it and it hurt too much to just have it sitting in my driveway rotting away
1:31 they generally dont pull u over for that 5% of the time when u are being a little roudy, they pull u over the other 95% of the time, when your driving it like its a toyota yaris. They target these cars. It used to be like skylines and souped up commodores, now its any luxury high performance car.
just to put this into perspective for non Aussies/Aussies who haven't had these types of run ins, I lost my license for A YEAR for doing a 5 second pull on an EMPTY 4 LANE HIGHWAY AT 4AM. Yes there's the obvious "well you were speeding, you deserved it" or "well that's your fault isn't it", but think for a second, I deliberately ONLY did it in that situation because I was certain no one could get hurt. The ONLY way I could've done that more safely, was on a track, which is way out of 90% of car enthusiasts budgets. It's a luxury, which means if it's not accessible for the majority of the public, it's not safe.
Perhaps the Police minister could do the unthinkable, be friendly with the car community and organize / do some Police track days at their cost for the car community
21 yo with an M4, "95% of the time I'm driving normally", bro, this is BS. You would be the one to pin it from a set of lights because a camry pulled up beside you, you are the reason we (the car community) get a bad rep. We were all your age, and we've all had fast cars, but just understand its a bit of a throwing rocks in a glasshouse type of issue. Again you are 21yo, with p plates in a high performance car, ofc you are going to get heat. As for the tickets, yes they are steep, but if you are smart you can drastically limit them. Or if you are balling (which you are making it seem), you register the car to an ABN, and play the "I don't know who was driving the vehicle" card when you get a ticket (you also pay ~5x the fine cost but no demerit points). Go back to driving a camry, get some more time behind the wheel, you are only 21, there is far more to driving on a road then being able to recover from the backend coming out, build the other skills before you have a cry.
You seem a bit jealous there, I don’t know how this video has annoyed you that much. I’d love to see you the proof of me driving like you suspect as that’s completely incorrect
Not jealous mate, I’ve been in your exact same position with similar cars. I’ve now grown up and understand the nuances of driving in Australia and modifying cars. I’m not getting into an argument with someone who has such strong opinions on an issue that they have made a video about it. P.s. make sure you get your crank hub done would hate for you to bitch about that when it let’s go
As someone who lives in Adelaide, that isn’t entirely the case. Yes, SAPOL is generally a lot less strict compared to the police in Victoria or NSW, they’ll generally leave you alone and only target people who’s cars are either heavily modified where they stand out (i.e slammed cars) or actual hoons being dangerous at meets, but things like the UHPV licence (which is a complete joke due to lacking a practical component), and regency being a pain in the event you get defected as even if you return your car back to stock to clear a defect, they’ll still do you for the most minor of things
About 10 years ago, there was a segment on today tonight or a current affair or something, and it was about an elderly woman in her late 70’s who was fined for speeding in a Datsun 120y. She was allegedly clocked at something like 140 kph. The news crew who covered it the story took the dainty little 120y that was bog stock standard to a test track and discovered it struggled to reach 120 kph. What this guy is claiming about the rules that are made to be supposedly for our safety, really being a cash grab by local governments is absolutely spot on! What human beings deem to be safe and not safe is entirely subjective i many instances and that is evident in the nz / Australia comparison. It’s highly important to understand who you vote for and what they represent and believe in as they can turn around and legally coerce and extort you!
Gotta keep the fun stuff for the track days man. They are def far too strict and feels very unfair. I wish they concentrated more on criminals than regular folk but criminals don’t pay fines so they are incentivized to punish law abiding people.
I grew up modifying cars since the early 2000s. My current car is fast but its just the engine and exhaust modded, also i only send it certain times of the day and when no ones around so i dont get pulled over really much at all. But its still sketchy with cops and i still see really modded cars around from time to time and it baffles me why they havnt been defected?. The last year ive been thinking of selling my car and moving into the city and walking everywhere lol. Its not fun anymore, even running or buying a car is a rip off
AH Victoria the place NOT to be... Geez What a load of BS just to get your drivers licence today !!! Looks like I was born in the right era ... When I got my licence in South OZ back in 1976 it was 6 weeks on a learners permit then full licence after at 16 years of age including no cc restriction on motorbikes however this changed 2 years later with the introduction of P plates and a 250cc limit on motorbikes . The South OZ coppers were just as bad back then on modified vehicles and loved handing out yellow canary's of which I got plenty . In 1985 I moved to QLD and never got hassled by the cops ever for car mods . Now living in NSW we have the dreaded road worthy inspection every year so it pays to keep your car in good condition ..
@@onpole01 You sold your baby AMG because you state "there's just no way to enjoy it properly" when there are purpose built facilities for exactly that. No I didn't miss the point. The point is people complaing because they didn't factor in all the costs and not wanting to take personal accountability.
Got defected for having a valved exhaust. Despite the fact that butterfly valves are legal when fitted by the manufacturer and the fact that my exhaust has a bmw logo on it. Still got fined and forced to get a rwc on a stock car
I’m Australian, and I enjoy my cars, and I’m a car enthusiast. What I am not however, is someone who modifies cars outside ADR regulations, or in fact break road rules. So far, I’ve been okay. The fact that you are constantly looking over your shoulder to check for police shows that you know you are breaking the law, so just don’t. Weird concept eh? I had my windows tinted and I couldn’t see a damn thing out the front side windows at night. I had to put my drivers window down so I could see where my driveway was at night. I took it back and had them pull it off and replace it with compliant tint. There IS a reason tint levels are limited. The cost of certification should be factored into the cost of the modification itself.
Dude, no one is driving on the road that doesn't break the rules. Don't tell me you drive 10km in car park , or never turn without indication , even gone above the speed limit. This is for normal granny. If you are a car guy driving 50 in a car making over 200kw. The car will not even drop lower gear . If you have newer car with more than 6 gear it's more comfortable to drive low speed and it will hit 5th . But 6 gear and below . It's uncomfortable driving in 3 then feel underpowered or stress on engine driving in high gear in low speed.
Unfortunately, you don't have to be breaking the law to be targeted or pulled over by police in this country, hence why he's always looking over his shoulder. Like he mentioned in the video, they'll also target or pull over any car that looks clean, sporty or modified, whether or not everything on the car is legal. Even my mum, who drives a stock VE Commodore V6, is frequently followed and pulled over by police while not doing anything wrong. Meanwhile, grandmas all over Australia have been driving around in their bone stock Camrys with bald tyres, no lights, metal-on-metal brakes, etc for years and never been caught. As for the tint, yes it could be a safety issue if it's too dark, but something around 20% would still be fine for most people; my previous car came with 20% (legal on the rear in NSW, but front must be > 35%), and while it took some getting used to, it was still easy to see out of at night. Just because the government says it's for safety doesn't mean it is for safety. Australian state and federal governments are well-known for being greedy compared to the rest of the world, and if you can't see that, you're as oblivious as they want you to be.
Yeah, Australia is a horrible place for car enthusiasts. So much for being the “lucky country”. Our government and authorities are obsessed with keeping a very tight grip on everyone. I’ve happily spent the last 2 years away as an expat.
No wayyy, big fan 🤩

100% Agree, Australia is the WORST place in the world for a car enthusiast. I hate how we cannot do anything without the constant threat of a yellow sticker defect or impound. Unfortunately those idiots that go around and do burnouts in the intersections and injure people that ruin it for all of us. Nanny Country!
I willing to bet Singapur takes the cake mate.
The great nanny state of Australia. Our new slogan. This video is 100% correct.
BRO WHY ARE THE FINES SO HIGH?
THIS IS ENOUGH MONEY TO FEED MYSELF FOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS
the fines are objectively disproportionately very high in Australia, but not just for traffic related stuff. its generally a political n easy thing to adjust to pander to a lawnorder voter without really doing anything. stats show getting a fine even small can correct behaviour,
the size of the fine [ ie making it bigger] rarely improves social outcome, n at a point can be negative . [ ie people loose licence for non pmt huge fine - little incentive to fix issue but still need transport n often times end up non care attitude n many more infringements that arise later that would not of ocured - no upside to society for this situation that could of been avoided in first contact]
Treason .
Because our country likes to dominate their people
Because the Australian law system and authortities is extremely corrupt in all aspects.

You and your generation voted for this
@@nibba5692 WTF? I most certainly did not! I always voted to maximise freedoms as much as possible, hence why I was drawn to this video. In fact, I even ran in an election with the Liberal Democrats to try to roll back the nanny state. You know nothing about me yet sit behind a keyboard thinking you know me. Blame the boomers as they were the largest voting block and presided over governments during this time.
The worst part about this that if you get reported by someone you will have to prove your innocence.

@ArmySigs how much they paying you? 😄
@ArmySigs what country were you living in..?

The tax hungry governments here are the biggest problem.

i really get what you’re saying about younger generations not bothering. i’m 20 and i’m finally looking into getting a project car to properly learn how to work on cars myself (something like a toyota starlet or k11 micra) and the question i’m asking myself at every stage of planning is “will a cop pull me over for this / could i get defected for this”.
i’m not planning anything radical, just a very basic oem+ build kept clean and well maintained, but i can’t help but be constantly paranoid, feeling as if won’t even be worth trying.

The worst part I feel like falcon and Commodore drivers have it the worst and if you're car is too dark, rims too flashy, interesting headlights, non standard bonnet, a sticker. So much for patriotism and our car heritage.
Australia is the worst country for car guys
Go to any European Union country and you’ll see how bad they have it there!
At least you don't live in a state in which a lot of performance car enthusiasts now need an additional UHPV license.

Its pretty simple.
The revenue they raise from car enthusiasts is poltically a easy play. They know this.
Thats why its never going to change.
A man’s gotta hear the V8
that MIGHT be the caribbean business park
Australia is definitely a nightmare when it comes to being for car enthusiasts, my best friend’s uncle drove unlicensed in the old Holden Commodore right past the police car and they did not do anything, also not to mention the car was unregistered… but as soon as you go past any fancy vehicle they will immediately get you.
I got EPA on my M3 a week after putting the exhaust on i have had 3 major defects on my other car for bags, wheels, low and seats and 2 of those times i was just parked up in my car at this point i mainly just keep my car stock or oem + just to enjoy it peacefully I’m scared of even putting the exhaust back on just because of the time it takes to clear it if i get a EPA again
most of these anti fun regulations came out more than 25 years ago when the demographic for voters was still dominated by boomers who had to control what anyone younger than them was doing.
maybe due to not wanting to feel old they did this to infantilize young adults so they could pretend that they themselves weren't over 40.
from alcohol restrictions on certain "premixed" drinks to nightclub curfews to limits on what cars young people could drive or what mods they could have or how many passengers they could have with them and dangerously limited max speeds on freeways to curfews on driving after midnight and being stuck on a "provisional' licence for 4 years with constant police harassment and "defects" for petty or entirely made up issues during that time cause you had to wear a big red or green "p plate" at all times so they know who to "randomly" pull over.
all this due to the media scaring the boomers with edited footage from japanese hill runs and drifting that they claimed was local or random vids of $500 shitboxes with welded diffs doing circlework in empty industrial sites in the middle of the night while calling these shitboxes "high performance" in the same way that california calls almost any rifle an "assault weapon".
this caused the boomers to cry out for more and harsher restrictions and laws on the young.
this is what happens when the old outnumber the young. you get "get off my lawn" laws.
laws that seem like the restrictions that a comedically overprotective mother on a sitcom would give their teen.
this country hates its young. don't blame the millennials for these laws. blame boomers and gen x.
paragraphs of pointless snowflake gen Z dribble.. cope.
Crazy people in a suv is way scarier than any tuned cars.
You have to analyse the vehicle standard and certification laws to understand how officers approach a modified vehicle. Honestly the only to loosen the red tape is to form a lobby/association similar to trucking, property, etc to persuade MP's.
As a responsible M4 owner if the government don’t you the insurance companies will.

They want be lenient with everything else rights for everyone but when it comes to car enthusiasts its living hell.
South aussie is even worse now, They now have a new licence for high-performance cars, yet XR6Turbo fits into those specs
Im thinking of moving now as it's beyond ridiculous
Perth is the only city with chill car mods
Next problem is the regulations on the car manufacturers.. less and less V10 and V8… some of the new AMG series is whit 4 cylinder ( A45s, CLA45s, C63s EP, GT43, GLC63, C43 ) 😢😢
And all kind of other regulations is killing the car enthusiast market so it is only the super rich that can enjoy a real car.. I work hard minimum 37 hours a week and whit one man income and a house I can not afford much more than a VW Polo GT
I like to buy the older AMG C43 at list it is a 3L V6.. but already that is out of my budget 😢
Just wanted to say that you have one of the cleanest M4's I've seen
Thank you bro 🫡
Police have essentially oblitersted all modified cars so 4wds are the next target
Had a VK Brock blue meanie was defeated for the Factory Momo steering wheel! Car was 💯 original, cops were not interested in the facts!
It’s always better somewhere else until you move there. But some of those laws are outrageous
This is why I prefer sleepers!
honestly, it all depends on how you drive and what you do to your car.
All of which are already clearly defined by the relevant TMR of QLD laws.

it's not the pod itself, it has to be properly enclosed i.e real airbox

The UK has 20 mph speed limits in major cities and the phasing out of ICE cars by 2035. And the possible pay per mile charge too.
There’s also tall poppy syndrome where they will target you because your car is nicer then theirs
How do we change it?
Unless the government is forcibly removed and replaced with something else it will never change, and only get worse year by year
Why don't you upgrade to the M5 with all wheel drive and all your oversteer issues are fixed?
I love oversteer hahaha, and well a m5 is worth double my m4
Personally i might move to the USA after i turn 20, my parents say that it would be stupid, but think about it. Its my passion. Why should i give up what im most passionate about in my life, just for the government who wants to control and grip me to follow specifications made by people who arent even qualified mechanics.
Not just cars. Australia ruins anything. Music festivals are done for example. Also internet use is extremely strict.
New Zealand has far better freedom.
Agreed
Are you sure? Lots of weird stories of woke crap and some weirdly race based laws coming out... I think things are going down in NZ too!
Mate you need to learn the difference between legal and lawful, then you'll be able to exercise your new rights.
I wished the government made a lot more tracks. I would be happy to go to more track days rather than doing streeto runs
by memory if your car comes stock with 18inch your allowed 20inch your allowed 30% tent even though some cars are sold with 20% and with 4x4 your allowed a 2 inch lift as well and your allowed to lower your car only to a some point im not 100% sure since im fully licensed i haven't been pulled over for a long time i think our police in vic just target younger drivers as a dominance thing

Yet you need a special licence to drive a lambo lol
Why do u have a 420i badge
Perhaps the Police minister could do the unthinkable, be friendly with the car community and organize / do some Police track days at their cost for the car community
same lol
Is that an M4 or 420i ?
M4
And i thought being a car enthusiast in NZ was harsh 😬
Come to NZ bro. Much better for car lovers, and less bugs or things that can kill you. It's a win-win.
P.s. make sure you get your crank hub done would hate for you to bitch about that when it let’s go
Tall poppy syndrome/nanny state worship on full display, you are everything wrong with this country
You would love SOUTH AUSTRALIA it is the best state with the least opression, bring your cars to adelaide the city loves it!
INSERT ULTRA LICENCE HAHAHAHHA
As someone who lives in Adelaide, that isn’t entirely the case. Yes, SAPOL is generally a lot less strict compared to the police in Victoria or NSW, they’ll generally leave you alone and only target people who’s cars are either heavily modified where they stand out (i.e slammed cars) or actual hoons being dangerous at meets, but things like the UHPV licence (which is a complete joke due to lacking a practical component), and regency being a pain in the event you get defected as even if you return your car back to stock to clear a defect, they’ll still do you for the most minor of things
Just moved to Melbourne from NZ. Our phone usage fine actually just increased to $150 from $80 (wow) but I do find the fines here insane.
Its not fun anymore, even running or buying a car is a rip off
This M4 is better looking than the new one
I just sold my A35 AMG as there's just no way to enjoy it properly 😢
It's called a track day mate.
@khamid1 i think you're missing the point of his video. Yes I've done track days but thanks for stating the obvious 👍
@@onpole01 You sold your baby AMG because you state "there's just no way to enjoy it properly" when there are purpose built facilities for exactly that.
No I didn't miss the point. The point is people complaing because they didn't factor in all the costs and not wanting to take personal accountability.
@@khamid1nanny state bootlicker
Yes, for Victoria, it’s all about money. I have reconciled with it and follow rules religiously
Got defected for having a valved exhaust. Despite the fact that butterfly valves are legal when fitted by the manufacturer and the fact that my exhaust has a bmw logo on it. Still got fined and forced to get a rwc on a stock car
Dude I feel the same way - recently just been tailgated all the time by cops sucks
Your a cop for sure
