Can’t put the blame fully on the painter the standard of carpentry is disgusting if the the gaps in the woodwork were not there no need for caulking. Caulking any wide gaps in my opinion is just temporary cosmetic and can hide and fool the eye into hiding the crap job done. If I were a painter I would report to the site manager the reason for not painting the out of specification work.
Its a rough old new build house wherever it is? Another thing you get now is half a dozen painters could have been in there to do bits and pieces before you got in?
Why are there massive gaps behind skirts and mitres on frames etc. Joinery is terrible on new builds. What's the going rate for painters on day work? 120? No wonder painters can't be bothered. The standard on new build from brickwork to finish is below standard.
I usually prime everything before I do any caulking and filling. Just saying.. you can have adhesion problems with the caulk on bare substrate like timber and plaster. 🤷♂️ crap painter tho.
Gary Day.. the painting is a bit slap dash as well to be fair :) Regarding priming first.. it’s also saves your finger ends from being ripped to bits when caulking. 👍
How much would you charge just to gun up skirts and arks on an average 3 bedroom 50s semi.......i know not every skirt or ark needs full attention when its a full refurb but lets say about 80 percent ...just a rough idea please ?
@@albertrobinson7392 took me the best part of a day Albert ....I mean with gunning it up then just one undercoat on all skirts ,arks and door casings .... actually a full ten hours with a bit of sanding here and there to get a really good finish

Where is my red crayon. Redo for payment. There are painters and there are scrubbers. It was exactly the same when I started in the mid sixties Seems to me they were more particular then, and we were doing council new build on Chelmsley Wood for Bryants in Birmingham.
What makes me laugh is the building companies ask fortunes for these plots when they sell em and them that care don’t get paid enough ie you and are leaving being replaced by zombies that don’t have a clue shocking mate

There are Painter & Decorators and then there are 'Toshers' im assuming he is the latter, I have walked off jobs where your expected to walk 100 yds to 'the stores' for the paint haul it up 3 flights 'flat 5 is ready mate' get in there, the chippies are still fitting doors, tiler in the bathroom, sparks doing the fuseboard and testing!!!!, yeah cya im off £400 a flat (all white admitted but ffs give me a chance) On domestic work work if someone has had a 'tosher' in and I been called to put it right, my price doubles, no haggling £265 a day and I will only do it on day work as you will keep finding shit no matter how well you look round
White walls against white trim and they still can't get it looking presentable? Things usually look better on video and pictures, I can't even imagine how terrible this must look in person. Sorry about all the extra work they are creating for you. Good luck!

Was he going over new plaster? I thought you’d do that before you start prepping? Thus no caulking or filling was done?

Prime, fill, undercoat and then caulk before top coating . Unless you dress with your underwear on the outside.
You need you're caulk dry early tho so you can cut into it with you're emulsion.. i get it but but me always Caulk first it's outta way
