I did this to my old tires. They work great now.

*That's so wild there's enough material left to recarve them like that!* This wasn't what I was searching for in DIY retread, but I'm still glad I found it.
*I have a rear set of off-road racing ATV tires that I am going to glue and screw rubber squares onto, and flex seal the inside portion that screws pass through with water proofing paste.* A couple hours of work to discover if I can retread them in this way indefinitely and I suspect I can.

the warning for 'regroovable' is for liability purposes, most tires have 30% rubber remaining before they hit belt... if they're in good shape you can get more mileage if you're in a pinch... but if you have the money to just replace them - time is money if your time is worth money

I have some 70 to 80 percent tires that I might regroove now versus later. I see it like this, if I regroove them now I can run them until they are once again looking like they are now and I won't be close to a blowout but I will get better performance out of them in the meantime.
