What is Human-Centric Robotics?

- Robots like Digit are purpose-built to do tasks in environments made for humans. We aren't trying to just mimic the look of people or make a humanoid robot.
Every design and engineering decision is looked at through a function-first lens. To easily walk into warehouses and work alongside people, to do the kinds of dynamic reaching, carrying, and walking that we do, Digit has some similar characteristics.
Our Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Jonathan Hurst, discusses the difference between humanoid and human-centric robotics.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
At Agility, we make robots that are made for work. Our robot Digit works alongside us in spaces designed for people. Digit handles the boring and repetitive tasks that are meant for a machine, which allows companies and their people to focus on the work that requires the human element.

Digit is such an awesome robot. Excited to see what the fleet can do in the coming years.
They're in direct competition with Boston Dynamics & Tesla, and in my opinion, they are in 1st place. Teslabot is new, and is likely 1-2 years behind them, and BD has the most impressive robots, but they feel more like a R&D lab, then a company manufacturing a robotic solution for people & companies. I wish them good luck.
Boston Dynamics is owned by Hyundai now, who had their own robotics labs, they have an interesting looking exo-skeleton that goes beyond the legs now, there's also Fujitsu and Toyota and a ton of others. Tesla just looks like Musk saw some youtube video's while stoned and decided he had to do it too and just bought out a company that was already working on it.
@@MrTrilbe yeah I wouldn't bet anything on shit that Elon has to do with lmao
Tesla's robot isn't even on the same plane of existance to Boston Dynamics lmfao
It's like comparing a highschool science project with CERN
Proud to be a Robotics engineer
Why are we not seeing these in industries yet? Accelerate the automation process and do it now.
Mainly due to cost , each one of these cost 250K , you can lease them thought
The goal of human-centric robotics is to build machines that augment and enhance human talents. This video explains in detail how this method seeks to enhance our relationships with technology.
It looks like it was made with a few scrap mops and some wires put together. That being said, I would probably still get one if the price is well within the range of reason.
I wish I could have worked at Agility Robotics!
This is brilliant. Thanks for this perspective.
Love to see it
Out of interest - what type of gearbox is used for the joints' movement? Stain-wave, RV?
Wouldn't RV gearbox make more sense given the industrial applications? Less wear and tear, more robust...
Not sure if it's RV specifically, but the Cassie joints used some type of cycloidal reducer, so probably the same on Digit's legs. There's an old promo video where Andy holds up one of the cycloid discs to the camera.
this is amazing! 😊
How far or how beind on you guys on the Tesla bot?
good like guys
I thus remember an Alien movie film
Your Awesome yet headless robot is somewhat disturbing and unnatural -Yet! The Headless Horseman, the mythical figure in folklore since the Middle Ages does give it potential and historic perspective once you add a horse companion. Just Kidding! Proposal you get your "Human-Centric Robot" into a comic relief movie or TV series, bring real awarness and acceptance to the Public.
I think that what you say here at 1:45 is a strong point to start from when arguing for being created by a great Lord with all the knowledge that we just try to mimic in our designs like any other design like planes boats and so many more, btw thanks for this video
I see robots working as inefficient as a human in the first fragment...
I mean I'd very much still class that as a humanoid robot.
Next army is invented.
Will they share a single AI mind?
Not going to work as intended
