He should've cooked the butternut squash with garlic, onion, stock, a bit of milk and spices and then put the mix into a blender. After that's done he could add cheese into the butternut squash sauce with some cooked pasta. I've made mac'n'cheese this way sooo many times because I can't have too much cheese and it's reaallly good!
You can try a makeshift cheese sauce. Boil some potatoes and carrots, blend them together with some milk, add a bit of garlic. Boom! Vegan cheese sauce that is utterly divine
mac n cheez: under $2 meatloaf: also under $2 chicken pot pie: u guessed it. under $2 all the caffeine that frankie and the tastemade editors had while making this video: PRICELESS
i remember making butternut gnocchi and was shocked at how "meaty" it tastes. not like you could fool it for meat but its very savory with the right spices
Recommend butternut squash fried rice microwave the squash till soften add it to egg fried rice base + peas + leftover chicken or ham ( recommend ketchup or saratcha )
I almost clicked off after the sad looking Mac and cheese but I stayed and the meatloaf and pot pie look genuinely good. 6.6/10 video. maybe make a cheese sauce with squash cheese and cream instead of just throwing it all in...
Yup, one of my fave cheap & easy meals is butternut squash soup: the recipe in good & cheap has like, 4 ingredients. Lasts me a whole week & there's nothing better on a cold day.
1 box of elbow noodles ($0.89). 1 can of Rico's Premium Aged Cheddar Cheese Sauce (1.98). Boil noodles. Drain. Add contents of can to noodles. Stir to combine. Makes 3 big servings of acceptable mac and cheese for $0.95, or 4 decent servings for $0.72. Ingredients are shelf stable for years and widely available any time of year - unlike butternut squash. I find mine at a corner store with no produce section next to the condoms, motor oil, and scratch off lottery ticket kiosk.
Luv ya Frankie. The show is so great 👍 Just wanted to pass along my fresh ginger hack...it keeps amazingly well in the freezer (put it in a zipper bag first)...and it's also much easier to grate when it's frozen.
Recipe request. Gluten free, like cauliflower or ground flax seed crust pizza. A big salad, a black bean soup made in a small blender, with like canned tomatoes and stuff. Oh for another episode winter cooking because like buying in season saves you a lot of dough
Dice the squash add evoo salt pepper and garlic. Roast in hot oven until golden and cooked through. Mix up meatless egg frittata with whatever leftover veggies on hand. Have cheese? Use it .. or not. Hot sauce sure that is a great add in.. bake until set up. Yummy
For the mac n cheese I would cook the squash then blend with cream then simmer with cheese. It's extra steps but would make a more traditional looking and tasting mac n cheese. (I use to do something similar for a vegan mac n cheese)
I saw this first on Hulu and tried the meatloaf recipe today. I was kind of skeptical at first, but the butternut squash made such a difference. I will never use breadcrumbs again in meatloaf.
Do you have a cookbook of the struggle meals? I cook for a big family n would love these recipes, the measurements. Please inbox me n let me know. I love these recipes.
as a peace corps volunteer i love these videos because luckily i can find a lot of these simple, basic ingredients in my town's local market and small grocery stores. and give me inspiration for when i go back to the US! but it would also be really helpful if some basic nutrition info were included at the end. like it's two dollars per plate, but how filling is that $2 serving? how much protein or calories am i getting out of it?
I would suggest making the mac & cheese in a saucepan, or any other pan. Boiling water in cast iron will ruin the seasoning and make your pan way more rust prone.
Hey Frankie cooks how com u don’t post on Snapchat no more I always watch ur cooks prolly 1st person cuz it helps a lot I literally stay up until 12:00 am Tuesday so I can watch but 1 time I wait n non cane yo I was thinking Snapchat trippin but u just don’t post there u should
Hey Frankie, could you do a video on budget-friendly homemade pet food or pet treats? We had a "people crackers" recipe in one of our kid cookbooks, and if you make your own you could probably make a cheap food while avoiding fillers (and avoiding some trips to the store during COVID). What are the principles to work with when creating pet food? I'm aware that pets can't take certain spices that humans enjoy, that dogs can be hurt by chocolate or grapes/raisins, that cats are obligate carnivores who need to have meat-based food (even if the owner is vegan)... could you research this and come up with something useful, like maybe a Dog Food, a Cat Food, and a Pet Treat that works for both? Thanks!
who's on a Frankie video binge right now? love his energy!
I just discovered his vids last night & having been binging like crazy!
Love Frankie! And his awesome struggle meals. Don't wanna hear anything negative. I know y'all just joking! ;)
Currently am, could come in handy 🙃🙃
OMG, I just discovered him and i'm loving it all!!!! He's inspired me to expand my palate while not having to expand my bank account!
I lost my tv remote and it stayed on this channel. I can’t stop watching him now.
How is he such a dad without actually being a dad
Norina Sun ur so right he holds so much dad energy
Frankie: “More savings. More nutrition.”
me: that’s the power of the home depot
Andrew Cepero better pizza. Papa John's
I've always wondered what Frankie would be like on coke... This video answers that question.
Saad Ishtiaq he definitely was on coke
Spent your check on nose candy? This is the video for you!
Saad Ishtiaq I’m watching this at 1.5x and it’s exactly what I’m thinking 😂
I'm at 2x speed. This guy is energetic!
Add some butternut squash to your coke and it becomes more nutritious. Also, makes an 8-ball go alot further.
Let's up the cost to $2.25 a plate and add more cheese! #LeGourmetTV
#worthit
I like butternut squash but that mac n cheese just looks sad. Needs more cheese.
We on a budget boi
He should've cooked the butternut squash with garlic, onion, stock, a bit of milk and spices and then put the mix into a blender. After that's done he could add cheese into the butternut squash sauce with some cooked pasta. I've made mac'n'cheese this way sooo many times because I can't have too much cheese and it's reaallly good!
Ayah Thats what I thought he was going to do.
Ayah it's about cooking on a budget
You can try a makeshift cheese sauce. Boil some potatoes and carrots, blend them together with some milk, add a bit of garlic. Boom! Vegan cheese sauce that is utterly divine
mac n cheez: under $2
meatloaf: also under $2
chicken pot pie: u guessed it. under $2
all the caffeine that frankie and the tastemade editors had while making this video: PRICELESS
Hahaha, maybe mastercard can sponsor us!
"caffeine"
$22.97 at Charbucks
No not priceless it’s about 60 bucks maybe 80
Tor J Keyes I think what he was on may be a little stronger than caffeine, Lol
Good to see these return.
they give me inspiration to cook
i remember making butternut gnocchi and was shocked at how "meaty" it tastes. not like you could fool it for meat but its very savory with the right spices
lyinsroar 😂😂 I want what he’s on.
Ás
Recommend butternut squash fried rice
microwave the squash till soften
add it to egg fried rice base + peas + leftover chicken or ham ( recommend ketchup or saratcha )
Try to make fried rice using frozen peas/corn/beef and flavor it using butter, pepper and salt
He did a variation of fried rice with grated cauliflower as the rice in one video, it looked freaking amazing!
Frankie I miss you so much on Struggle Meals! I love watching you cook, and talk about the food such enthusiasm! Please make more Struggle Meals!
He has his own channel now
Chef Frankie, I love all of your budget-friendly recipes.
"Because the butternut squash is filling in the cheese... with nutrition" 😂😂😂
This is brilliant! I love how it focuses on taste and cost
Frankie, you are so much fun to watch while in the kitchen. so glad I found this channel.
Take a shot for every time he says "nutrition" and "butternut squash"
and if you want to up the flavor just caramelize the onions before adding to the the meat mixture.
Yay Frankie's back! This is my favorite cooking series on RUclips!
I love struggle meals!
You lost me when you said you don't need much cheese for Mac n cheese. Lies.
Right thats the comfort part. The goowey cheese. That was sad dry macaroni. Id rather just eat the noodles with a littlw butter.
Maybe he was skimping on the cheese for lack of time? If you watch his other mac and cheese videos he adds an absolute TON.
1234 it's not mac n cheese if there's no ooey gooey cheese. The whole point of mac n cheese is to taste the cheese
I use 4 or 5 different cheeses in mine.
Exactly Ginger - it has to have all the cheese.
Great video! Frankie is so innovative and makes recipes easy to replicate
I almost clicked off after the sad looking Mac and cheese but I stayed and the meatloaf and pot pie look genuinely good. 6.6/10 video. maybe make a cheese sauce with squash cheese and cream instead of just throwing it all in...
I’ve had a crush on this guy since the first Struggle Meals video I’ve seen
Yup, one of my fave cheap & easy meals is butternut squash soup: the recipe in good & cheap has like, 4 ingredients. Lasts me a whole week & there's nothing better on a cold day.
Absolutely love this guy! He is so inventive and entertaining that it makes me want to try new foods.
LOVE HIS ENERGY🥰 ... MY FIRST TIME SEEING HIM I LOVE HIS LOW BUDGET MEALS PLAN🥙🍛 YESSSSSSSSS👍🏽 ♥️
Bring this series back! ;_:

I saw this at 1.5x speed, and imagine that's how it looks to be on coke.
Carlos Romero watch this at normal speed and it’s already similar to coke
1.5 is hilarious. His voice still sounds kinda normal but it makes the jump cuts really quick and coked out seeming.
Carlos Romero lmao I lost it when he said what up doc at 1.5 speed
Guessing and effing around with someones reputation sucks.
Wow, I adore Frankie almost as much as these new recipes.
I like how he took the squash out of the microwave that was already in a bowl into another bowl 😂
Bring back this series or struggle meals in general inflation is crushing people
Best series returns!!!
Oh my god! A season 2! So damn excited! I love this series!
Love these tips and tricks to saving and not having to eat boring things and the budget friendliness
I FREAKING LOVE THIS SERIES!
Good to see these, and Frankie, back. I like Frankie.
I love this guy.
Love this show and how funny he is!
you should’ve made a cheese, cream, and squash purée for the mac and cheese!! i make it for my sister bc she refuses to eat veggies!!
Luv ya Frankie. The show is so great 👍 Just wanted to pass along my fresh ginger hack...it keeps amazingly well in the freezer (put it in a zipper bag first)...and it's also much easier to grate when it's frozen.
Guess who's back, back again. Frankie's back. Tell a friend.

Yes! A new season!
Frankie is the Bill Nye of cooking. 😂
he has so much fun with cooking but at the same time he has great ideas ☺️ 💡
For the mac n cheese I would cook the squash then blend with cream then simmer with cheese. It's extra steps but would make a more traditional looking and tasting mac n cheese. (I use to do something similar for a vegan mac n cheese)
Woohoo! Welcome back! We've missed you.
I’d like to see a “struggle kitchen essentials”. What you TRULY need in a kitchen. Maybe a kitchen tools episode and a pantry edition?
This is awesome. Reminds me of everything I did in my 20s when I had my kitchen gadgets.
I'm so happy this is back!!!
I saw this first on Hulu and tried the meatloaf recipe today. I was kind of skeptical at first, but the butternut squash made such a difference. I will never use breadcrumbs again in meatloaf.
Does anyone know what the measurements are for any of these recipes? Particularly the meatloaf one? Thanks
Great series love it!
I feel like frankie has a lot of fun filming these
Do you have a cookbook of the struggle meals? I cook for a big family n would love these recipes, the measurements. Please inbox me n let me know. I love these recipes.

Look, man, I’m not putting Butternut Squash in my Mac and Cheese.
Love your videos, would love to see a vegan episode of struggle meals :)
Wondering why I didn't discover Frankie earlier. Love this series.
as a peace corps volunteer i love these videos because luckily i can find a lot of these simple, basic ingredients in my town's local market and small grocery stores. and give me inspiration for when i go back to the US! but it would also be really helpful if some basic nutrition info were included at the end. like it's two dollars per plate, but how filling is that $2 serving? how much protein or calories am i getting out of it?
Hurray for more Frankie!
You are a great teacher!
You can roast the seeds like pumpkin seeds too for a snack.
Happy cooking Great tasting food!
I never knew the words BUTTERNUT SQUASH could frighten me so much until the start of this video... Very impressive.
This show is awesome!
I looooove this series!
You out here saving live maan! Thanks 🙏
That Borat impression was spot on
Watching this while eating about a third of a can green peas (chilled) with ranch 😅 thx for this video 🙏🏻
I'm watching this for the second time and I don't even have an oven and also don't like mac and cheese that much... this show is awesome!
I do enjoy his videos - he is soooo funny and cute af also.
I would suggest making the mac & cheese in a saucepan, or any other pan. Boiling water in cast iron will ruin the seasoning and make your pan way more rust prone.
i live in brasil. what do i use as a substitute for stock?
He's so enthusiastic on this episode like very

Welcome back my dude!
I was just wondering what happened to Frankie! Good to see him again :)

Am I the only one that think this reminds me of a 90s tv show? xD I'm loving it. Haha
