The reason I love this series is because he always uses simple cooking tools that I already have at home versus other cooking channels where they use fancy tools that cost hundreds of dollars
Lol yeah, espiecally when they're like, Put it in the food processor and then use this electronic whisk afterwards plus this specific ingredient and I'm like... I got a spoon and two hours, lets go.
You know I actually love the editing team on this. Or whoever makes up the fun bits inbetween Frankie actually cooking and being awesome. I don't normally care about the extras in videos but it's fun.
Making this tonight. I have a Sam's rotisserie chicken that needs to be used. Gonna shred it for this meal and use the bones in a pressure cooker to make broth for later. Then re pressure the bones again until they turn to mush, add old veggies that would be thrown out, run through a blender and pushed through a stainer, pip it on dehydrator trays and make doggie treats. 100% 0 waste
2 things. First, love the sauce packet idea. I did it with all of the packets we have (a small box) and organized it the same way. Works like a charm and I'm using stuff up. Second, this recipe is THE 💣💥. My husband and I ate this up. He went for seconds! Thanx for the recipe. You know your stuff!
In NZ fast food places call them "hash bites". At the supermarket they're "mini hash browns" with the exception of birds eye which calls them "potato gems".
I really like this recipe. I’ve never used tater tots in many years but I’ve made this for my family at least 4 times recently and we all really enjoyed it.
After watching this via Snapchat, I HAD to find it again, saved and will make assp!! This may be my favorite of all taste made history, lol...and Frankie is loaded with anti struggle ideas, humor and wit which keep me coming back for more!!! 👌🏽😘😘💖🙏🏽
I keep freezer bags for bones and veggie scraps. When they fill up I make broth. I even have the bones from a couple of smoked Boston Butts that will go in red beans and rice later. Free flavor!
Absolutely love that you explained how to make your own version of "cream of chicken" essentially. I've been wanting to cut down on using processed/canned foods and this can be used in so many different recipes!!
Love this cooking show. As. First time mom, this has helped me cook some meals while juggling a baby. I no longer work full time so we are definitely on a budget.
I nominate an episode to unusually good foods or ways of doing certain dishes. Example i like enchiladas so i have a recipe that uses doritos and can foods. Its cheap, quick, simple as can be not to mention its an unusual combination that works
You explained a bunch of French cooking terms I only kind of understood SO clearly and easily in only the first half of the video! Amazingly helpful videos!
I wouldn't put the skin in the finished dish because I don't like the texture when it's cooked with liquid, but I do keep it with my stock material where it adds a lot of flavor. My husband would love this - pot pie and tater tots - right up his alley :)
You don’t need one, remember these sauce techniques are dependent on the other ingredients for the ratios to be equal parts so you can basically have x amount of this and just match it with x amount of that wether it’s 2 ounces of each or 10 gallons for both you just mirror the other ingredient to become equal parts
Idk if you added it in at some point but just FYI your best option is always fresh fruits or vegetables, but if those are unavailable and you're left with frozen or canned, always go with frozen. Frozen is healthier and not bogged down with preservatives and sugars.
What states call it hotdish? The dish originates in the Upper Midwest region of the United States, where it remains popular, particularly in Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. Hotdish is cooked in a single baking dish, and served hot (per its name). ... Hotdish.
I like this channel, however, I would appreciate it if it wasn't aimed solely at people in the US. I am in the UK and we don't have tater tots 😞 I suppose I could top this recipe with mashed potatoes, but thats a lot of extra work. Any suggestions?
here in australia we have them more readily available- but i feel like hashbrowns/sliced potatoes/mashed potatoes would work still very well together!!
That looks amazing. But I dont like chewing on fatty meat. I think I would take the meat fat off...but then itll dry out wont it ?🤣. 🤷🏽♀️🤷♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏽♀️
moonymilquetoast I made this tonight but modified for vegetarians. Omit the chicken. Use veggie broth and veggie bouillon (I used a vegan chick’n bouillon). I also used a lot more frozen bagged veggie mix- my blend had diced potatoes, celery, carrots and peas. Yum!
@@steve1253 I know he does, but we can't buy per serving. So before we can make something that $1.37 per serving, we have to go out and buy $27 of stuff.
All that work to ruin it with those greasy, GMO, low quality tots...I would just serve it over toast or on top of white rice. Much healthier and tastes even better!
I enjoy the recipes, but finally have to just stop watching. I'm severely allergic to both onion and garlic, which are used in many recipes (not just here, but all over the Internet), and I don't have a kitchen, so don't know why I'm watching anything that's cooked on a stove top or in an oven. Bye bye.

Love Frankie's fork whisk

Chicken Tot-Pie
I know right?
Perfect!

Frankie, I just got out of a five day hospital stay for my heart and this is the first video I saw, made my day! Thank you!!
MAY Allah bless u and make your health well Ameen 💕💕ll
Love this recipe, Chef Frankie Celenza! I love your techniques using simple tools and cooking tips. Thanx!
We call tater tots, potato gems in Australia. I eat them with salt and vinegar. 😋 delicious
In NZ fast food places call them "hash bites". At the supermarket they're "mini hash browns" with the exception of birds eye which calls them "potato gems".
Susan Yammouni That sounds yummy. I will try it.
Jessica M hash bites!! i love the name!! 😭
Potato gems sounds so much more gour-met. ;)
It’s amazing. I watch and re- watch struggle meals when I want to make something yummy and thrifty!
I really like this recipe. I’ve never used tater tots in many years but I’ve made this for my family at least 4 times recently and we all really enjoyed it.

I found this channel about a week ago and it has been so great! I love the money saving tips and cooking education. You're amazing! And so funny.
I bet biscuits on top would be just as awesome
Cheaper, too. And then you can add potatoes to the filling, heartier and less expensive than the tots
It is!
I keep freezer bags for bones and veggie scraps. When they fill up I make broth. I even have the bones from a couple of smoked Boston Butts that will go in red beans and rice later. Free flavor!
Oh God I need to make this asap. Looks sooo good!
Update: I made it and it was delicious!
Absolutely love that you explained how to make your own version of "cream of chicken" essentially. I've been wanting to cut down on using processed/canned foods and this can be used in so many different recipes!!
If you want a really good cream of mushroom, look up Alton Brown's green bean casserole recipe.
Omg dont stop what your doing your amazing. I love watching you cook. You give me so many ideas and make me laugh.
Love the cooking show. I keep a lot of food staples that he used in my kitchen.
You actually managed to make hot dish look not terrible.
You the man Frankie 👍
I like that I can make this gluten free and my family really like it too. Thank you Frankie .

Doritos and tuna macaroni with peas are so good.
Yes please do a cookbook
I love this recipe.
So much fun to watch! I can strictly just watch your cooking RUclips channel all day.
I'm guessing hash browns can be used instead of tater tots? (in the UK where tater tots aren't really a thing)
Yes, they're almost the exact same thing!
I'd probably use hash browns as well, since they can actually cover the top like a pie crust
According to google the UK, like NZ, calls them mini hash browns.
Yes! And i imagine you can layer them and they'll be like lasagna
Looks so amazing!! I've been looking for better alternatives to cream of stuff due to chemicals in it....thanks Frankie!!!
Stephanie Durham there’s chemicals in everything. Salt is a chemical
WAT no DROP THE STOCK WOWOWOWOWOW moment?
Eh well.
Also, I gotta say it, you missed the chance to call this Chicken Tot Pie. But that's OK WE EATS IT ANYWAYS.
Another thing I appreciate about this recipe is being able to make the sauce gluten free. So good.
You explained a bunch of French cooking terms I only kind of understood SO clearly and easily in only the first half of the video! Amazingly helpful videos!
Could you put the cube in with the broth or do you have to put in by it self

Have been enjoying your videos.
Straight up awesomeness!
What is your background and what led you to start this channel ? Great tips
Anybody wondering why the recipe isn’t in the drop down box 😫😢
Shaquita Davis ugh yes! 🙁😫

You can still find it on StruggleMeals on FB.
What temperature did you use to bake the chicken thighs???
Bruh this is my favorite thing you've ever made.
This food scream "I am depressed and also i like to cook"
How dare you call us out!
no, you are!
Well it's called Struggle Meals. It can be depressing to be broke, but he makes it look not so bad, because you can at least eat well.
Yo it tastes so freaking good though
There's nothing depressing about this food honey
Can I use almond milk as I'm lactose intolerant 😫?
It's like a chicken shepherds pie

Nothing wrong with frozen vege always use them better than fresh sometimes love your channel
What the frig are tator tots? (I don’t know if that’s how it’s spelled)
Curious, what part of the country calls a “casserole” a “hot dish”?
What states call it hotdish?
The dish originates in the Upper Midwest region of the United States, where it remains popular, particularly in Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. Hotdish is cooked in a single baking dish, and served hot (per its name).
...
Hotdish.

Christina Gallagher hash browns or potatoes O’Brien from the freezer section!
You can grate a potato, mix with an egg (or not) and "fry" in a skillet with butter/oil till crispy and brown. Use any potato pancake recipe.
Thanks for the replies, I'll give it a go. Still wish we had tater tots, damn uk 😂
here in australia we have them more readily available- but i feel like hashbrowns/sliced potatoes/mashed potatoes would work still very well together!!
Tht is the classic 50s and 60s american suburbia meal.
Is there a cliffhanger? But Im in love with... BECHAMEL. You're so hot... dish. Anyway miss your Italian accent Frankie.

Yummmmm!
Frankie, can you please stop smashing the pig? He's a real buddy!
Hey Frankie, gimme some of your tots
😋
Only one recipe?!?!
Frankie 😍🥰😘
Chicken skin too?
You want to put the garlic in last because it only takes a minute to cook and the onions take at least five.
You hear this all the time but ive truly never ended up with burned garlic and a bitter/unpleasant dish because of over cooked garlic.
MI in a dish
this guy is the good eats alton brown 2.0
Butter is not frugal
I couldn't even get the tater tots for $1.37
@@steve1253 I know he does, but we can't buy per serving. So before we can make something that $1.37 per serving, we have to go out and buy $27 of stuff.
veggies dont have bones :)
But Monsieur, why did you include the skin of ze chicken?!
Use a whisk.
No whisk! Struggle tools only, Sir!
This guy watches Babish.
Shepherd's pie turned into a tater pot pie yummy
All that work to ruin it with those greasy, GMO, low quality tots...I would just serve it over toast or on top of white rice. Much healthier and tastes even better!
Nope. Nein. Nyet. Nada. No big French words for me, thanks!
