  • I wanted to find a categorization method that is simple and can be easily applied to any video concept, and here is where we landed!
    I'm using three broad levels of fragrance collection/experience to explain my recommendations:
    1. Starting- perhaps you've been following fragrance reviewers and building your collection for up to a year now. You're still quite bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and you're very excited about new ways to smell good!
    2. Intrigued- the mainstream realm is beginning to be less appealing. You still enjoy the fragrances you have, but they no longer excite you. You are interested in more interesting options.
    3. Enthusiast- while your mainstream fragrances may still have function, they might occupy a minority of your fragrance wearing. You are generally open to new scent experiences, and might even have a growing interest in the artistry behind perfumery.

    I need that Rosé. I can also fully witness for Overture, it's rough and not for most virgin noses (back when I got my Amouage discovery kit I hated it) and I still slightly struggle with that sharp opening but man that drydown. I own a bottle which is now (sadly) almost past half way down.

    I have yet to try the EDP of H24, but I love the EDT! It fits into the same wearability as 90s fresh fougeres (Eternity, Cool Water, Platinum Egoiste) while smelling original at the same time. It probably wont be a classic like Terre D'Hermes, but I am pleased that Hermes managed to make a very wearable fragrance that is also interesting and original.

    Justin I love that you talk about more exceptionally high quality fragrances rather than the normal mainstream designer one's that you can watch top 10 lists regularly and not that there's anything wrong with that as I am just a normal 8hr a day factory worker that wears a bunch of designer fragrances to work but learning about those special scents that are unique and uncommon allow for a different type of attention you can get so keep doing what you do

      @@stayfreshproductions you're welcome and as I commented on your upcoming live chat with Ross you guys are having no problem with content as you have your own unique way about it which is really refreshing I think if more reviewers were more open minded to the fragrance houses that are not found on discounters it would open up a larger range for content and add more variety to the community as a whole

    As for me, you could use this concept more often Justin. Realy great perfumes you choose this time.
    I'm in this hobby for 25+ years now and with these kind of video's it's nice to see where in your point of view, I should be.
    First a little fact about Houbigant Fougère Royal. It is the first fougère ever made in 1882, but I believe due to shortage in materials, eventualy they couldn't make it anymore. But it set the perfume world upside down and indeed, a lot of mainly old school fougères are made based on this formula. In 2010 Houbigant re-released this perfume and made the original formula a bit more modern. I love my fougères and Fougère Royal is definitaly a casual perfume for me also.
    As for classy I'd pick Ormonde Jayne Ormonde Man and versatile Montale Greyland.
    Personaly I don't realy mind if someone classifies a perfume I love as a starting, intreged or enthousiast. I just wear what I love to wear. Wheter it's Platinum Égoïste, Profumo, Pasha, Drakkar Noir or my perfumes which even on Fragrantica only a handfull of people seem to know about. In the end it's all about if I like it, I wear it.

    Cool concept, appreciate you trying to do something different, regardless of people mostly clicking the basic cookie cutter BS videos. Definitely think of myself as an enthusiast.
    Casual: Royal Crown's Imperator. One of the more unique scents that I've smelled from RC, mostly get a plate of sawdust at first, but a very unique creamy wood combining with laurel. Need a bottle of this.
    Classy: Xerjoff's Alexandria II. Great formal occasions standout fragrance. Powdery oud.
    Versatile: Initio's Paragon. Yet to get it in rotation since this is mainly spring-fall, but it's a very interesting scent. Mildly reminds me of Musk Therapy, mostly smells of plum and smoky palo santo with some musky tones.

    When I first smelled my little decant of Overture Man, I kind of liked it, but was not too sure at first. Now, I love the stuff; even close up! I usually just wear this one for me around the house because I'm don't really go anywhere to dress it up in the evening. A plus is that my wife likes it too. Her tastes have changed a bit along with mine during the last year into loving darker, more boozy fragrances.

    @edgardozara97 Год назад +1

    Fougere Royale is the OG fougere but is perhaps modernized when it got rereleased in 2010. I trust that the nose behind it did his best to retain the old formula with the neccessity to make alterations to adapt to the times.
    Im considering getting Lunar Vetiver especially since Wet Stone is a fragrance i enjoy. I think Amouroud is a very good brand that has classy scents that offers much more than the typical mainstream releases but with a quality that justifies it being a niche house

    I appreciate you trying different approaches to your content, Justin! I do like this 3 levels format you came up with. It's informative for all level of collectors - it helps those ahead stay in touch with and appreciate less challenging scents, and at the same time helps beginners have a peek ahead in their journey and keep their eyes open for what's next. Keep up the good work and have fun!

  • @lecrapface5270

    I really really enjoy the juxtaposition you put in every video. You state where you are as a fragrance enthusiast and then you very graciously invite others in while at the same time warning and guiding people who want to venture down the rabbit hole. Your advice was confirmation for me that I was taking the right steps. I've bought two orders of decants at this point, one of around 10 super common fragrances. The second order was about 15 fragrances and I did start to venture out and take some risk with fragrances that sounded interesting but I wasn't sure I'd enjoy them for sure. I have not been disappointed at all with taking this step. It has only made my journey that more amazing and helped me to realize what I'm in search of. So when you talk about venturing out into niche fragrances, I love it. Stepping into the fragrance hobby has awakened my olfactory sense as if I've never used it before. I now crave to smell certain fragrances that I've purchased. There was a decant I bought, and I lost the small vial. A few weeks later I was craving a fragrance. I thought maybe it was one of the Gucci Guilty flankers, but no that wasn't it. A few weeks on and I was ready to give up. And then I bought a full bottle of the decant that I lost. And bingo, it was the scent I had been longing for, but of which I could not remember the name. Every day I'm waking up with a hunger for a certain scent. It's wild and something I never expected from simply wanting to get a new daily cologne. So now between your channel and one other channel I watch, I'm ready to start into niche fragrances. In my experience, I have been apprehensive of certain notes because I've bought cheaper fragrances with that particular note in them and because of the poor quality, I developed a dislike for certain notes. But as I investigated the fragrances I love, I realize that certain notes can be done well and with higher end fragrances, you can discover smells that you never knew existed, but you will long for them once you find them. I never knew that colognes and perfumes could hold so much beauty. I've gone from seeing these things as cheap cliche aftershaves/colognes to seeing a field of endless possibilities and just hoping I have enough time on this earth to explore them all.

    I'm right at that point of becoming more interested in fragrance and I strongly agree with what you said about rose/floral. Yesterday I got a sample of Bvlgari Garanat and I really like it. It's very minimal, all rose and incense. Great choice to sample for someone who wants to test drive the rose accord with no distractions. I learned that I like it but I need something more complex, so Zaharoff Signature Rosé sounds like a good next step for me. Great video! 🙂

    I started getting into fragrances at the end of last year when I got gifted my first scent for my 20th birthday by my best friends - Givenchy Gentleman Réserve Privée... A very nice classy scent! Few months later I grabbed Prada L'Homme as my second, to have a versatile scent. Yet I still needed a scent to kind of casually represent my identity, that's when I bought Hermès H24 EDP just a while ago. And now I'm seeing this video and feel confirmed haha...

    I transitioned from level 2 to level 3 in the past couple years... I have become very interested in which perfumers create the fragrances that I enjoy and exploring more specifically from them if it seems like something I would enjoy but still being open to selections from them that might surprise me. Been going from more known niche houses to lesser know houses. Will list some of those in a minute but first wanna go over some of the perfumers I really like as far as their offerings - Chris Maurice (nishane and xerjoff mostly - want to explore the lesser known houses he's worked with), Dominique Ropion, Marie Salamagne (just for by the fireplace - one of my favs all time), Jorge Lee & Bertrand Duchaufour. Houses I want to look more into: CoSTUME NATIONAL, Electimuss, Profumum Roma, The Harmonist, & Strangers Parfumerie to name a few... but there's many others... It's just a matter of budget for me right now.

    • @mrrob4590
      @mrrob4590 Год назад

      If you like by the fireplace and are interested in looking into profumum Roma I would definitely recommend Arso (Embers) from that house. It is primarily Pine couples with a woodsmoke note over a base of unsweetened amber. Despite these strong notes it wears close and soft but has great longevity. It’s becoming a must have for me however because of the pine smoke amber combination it is not very versatile and demands being worn on exceptionally cold days IMO of course. Because it’s so winter focused I’d recommend the 12 ml rather than the 100 ml as a little goes a long way try to test it out if you can. Another from the house I enjoy and wear most often is Antico Caruso. Almond and amber. Reminiscent of Le Male but when side by side. Complete different scents.

Carnation, Oud, castoreum, civet, musk, amber gris, pepper, pimento, frankincense, myrrh, cumin, tobacco, guaiac, patchouli and leather are among the ones I like to know more about. Love this video lots for me to try here. I did try H24 and thought it is alright, may I should give it a full wearing but it didn't move me much as say Vintage, Bucheroun, Versace pour homme or even Versence (yes the lady's), Acqua Di Gieo perfumo. As for Gentle fluidity silver I love it. I also highly recommend Opus 1870 from Penhaligon's. Lunar Vetiver sounds interesting.

    I would consider myself somewhere around “intrigued”. Ive tried basically all the “basic” main stream designers and quite a bit of niche as well. Ive also owned about 25 bottles so far, but i only keep 1-5 fragrances at a time. Right now i have 3 that im really into. Lazy Sunday Mornings as something versatile all around, Angels Share as something for when im feeling myself or i want a “pick me up” sort of scent and By The Fireplace as something thats warm, sensual and balanced.

    Great video, i really like the idea of the different fragrance levels. Lately i was wondering if you have tried „Aqaysos“ by Pierre Guillaume, i just got a full bottle of it and i love it! It‘s a fresh type of scent with a dark fruityness, kinda simple but with an interesting twist, because it features a prominent black currant note and drys down into smooth musk and cacao. I could imagine that you could like it, because it reminds me of mfks gentle fluidity silver in terms of how its kind of familiar and simple but still unique and interesting. I highly recommend you to try it out.

    Love the opening of Renaissance does anyone get similarities to Habit rouge once it dries? They are obviously different scents but I feel once dry the two have similarities. If I can make recommendations for the enthusiasts out there I have recently purchased Escale en Haiti and Escale en indonesie both from Les Indemodables the first being a study in vetiver and the second being focused on ambergris which the write up claims is an actual ambergris tincture. As I am recommending these for the enthusiast they are not what I would consider mainstream mass appeal fragrances they do however smell really lovely and seek to focus mainly on the main notes with little other supporting notes. I have spent a little more time with escale en Haiti which seems to have multiple facets of vetiver through its life span. It is very dry no sweetness no citrus just vetiver that changes through its dry down. It is a cologne concentration but due to its lack of citrus lasts at just better than a skin scent due to the heavier note of vetiver. Super classy and I’d recommend wearing in the fall dressed at least smart casual. I’d you like terre de Hermes
    Chanel sycamore creed vetiver geranium chances are you will appreciate this one as the vetiver used is in the same vein as these
