Man, I love how "everything old is new again"...if you live long enough, lol. The muscle memory I learned in mid/late '80s with the slung SP89/MP5s is wholly applicable to my slung Sig MCX .300 pistol.
4 year old reply: Techniques change as needs change. Some needs are cyclicle with the ages. Some techniques become proven with time, while others die. This sling tension technique appears to have survived.
Good video. I always wanted to run an AR pistol like this ever since I saw Clear and Present Danger as a little kid, with Willem Dafoe rocking an OA-93 AR pistol in the same configuration, way back in the day. Cool to see the technique again.
Thank you for video. Went to range today for first time since purchasing SP5K…needless to say, these tips are appreciated. Fun to use and learn about non AR style weapon. SP5K is truly fun to use…just need to practice to improve placing round where needed.
oh man, it killed my soul to hear him say that. I cant fathom the level of stupidity that is required to think that a fore grip is worth making illegal.... out with the atf and nfa
Travis you should do a series of trying different shooting drills like the "Chaos Drill" or "Zig Zag Rifle Drill" by Kyle lamb and other ones out there and basically do a reviews about them I'm sure we'd like to hear what you have to say about it with your knowledge and experiences.
I don't understand how the torquing helps control recoil. It makes your arms rigid I guess, but the gun still flips up quite a bit. The way I was taught was to use a pull pull grip. The nonfiring hand pushes the forend forward, the firing hand pulls back, kind of like with a pistol grip shotgun. Maybe that is what he meant by torquing? Rotational tension doesn't seem to do all that much, maybe for full auto? Some guns have a bit of rotational wobble when shot full auto without a stock, which I think is from the rifling.
What about if you had to transition to a pistol? How would you secure the sub, so it is not hitting you in the nuts or swinging around as you are moving? Awesome video thanks!
.PROPOSED SLING TOPIC: For those wanting to avoid the AR-15 sling brace legal quagmire, would you please demonstrate a good sling tension technique on an AR-15 pistol in lieu of using a brace. Perhaps something akin to the sling tension technique utilized on the MP-5 by the SAS, etc.
In the era of braces like the sba3, sba4, and fs1913 brace is there any reason to use this setup and technique? Some niche application where this is optimum?
How about a forward thumb side grip like the one from Blackhawk? Is that one allowed. I have one on each side of my RF-85 treated, AR-15 style 5.56, 1-8 twist rifle, from Anderson manufacturing. Great control. My thumb is pointing toward the item I am shooting like my old bird dog, red. A point of order,... black shirt, black sling, black gun with a dark background a bit hard to see what you intended for us to see. Just being real. Thanks for all you do. giving training to the armed forces, military and us, the true personal first responders. You do what you have to do,... Respect!
Trav, buddy, find you a SOT, pay him $25 to engrave your gun, pay Uncle Sam $5 to transfer the gun back to you as an AOW, and then you can put that vertical grip on just like God intended. No stock needed on that lil guy.
KoolStoryBreh you got to try one. It's obvious you don't shoot that much. These things are the forgotten about weapon that is as popular as the ar around the world except the USA

*I watch this video today to enforce my anti-rogue ATF option for my MP5 class guns. Semper Fi.*
"That would be illegal" that's why we need to abolish the NFA, Hughes Amendment, and the BATFE!
Preaching to the choir, man.

yes i use lower case on purpose.
And I though Canadian legislation was silly :/
It is. ;)

Hey Travis !!1 Do you prefer Trijicon HD sights on a Glock 19 ? Your videos are awesome !!! Thanks for helping the average shooter !!!!
Can you make an updated video, now that arm braces are illegal. Some range and accuracy footage would be great too
Thx Trav, you rock!
Wonder how this would work with the Kriss Vector. Guess I'd have to put a stop stick on the end of the grip/muzzle end.
Great video about the trusty ol sling. Now a days it seems to have been forgotten about as a tool, what with all these tacticool attachments.
Great technique as always, but more importantly; where can I buy that shirt?
In the era of braces like the sba3, sba4, and fs1913 brace is there any reason to use this setup and technique?

Vehicle work. It is both lighter/slimmer and faster to get up than any other solution, period.
This aged well
@@donh1572 I ultimately opted for this type of setup

Love the t-shirt. What brand is it?
Getting tips for my Draco lol
What is that muzzle device?
don't know if I caught what kind of sling that was, does Haley Strategic offer something like that?
Yes, that one was the D3 Sling SLK version www.haleystrategic.com/weapon-accessories/rifle-accessories
Y'all once did a video on pistol and AR-15 malfunctions I can't find it could y'all Mack another one
Mack on yo momma.
oooh rahhh , Semper Fi. Outstanding vid..would a sling like this work on a mp5???
Audio is turned allllll the way down. Can't hear anything
Yeap, this one was too quiet
Alexander Zając sounded fine to me
Take your earplugs out.
Always work the back hand.
How to shoot MP5K without a sling?

I always thought it was weird that the transfer tax on an a o w is $5 but if you form 1 one then it's 200
I don't know what to do with my hands
Would attaching the sling at 6 o’clock and grabbing it be an ATF no-no?
Does the mp5k have a reciprocating bolt? Wouldn't thumbs over prevent the bolt from cycling?
None of the MP5's have a reciprocating bolt, so you're good to put your thumb there.
Drew M It wouldn't work very well if it didn't have a reciprocating bolt. The cocking handle on the other hand stays where you put it...
