There’s a distillery out here in So Cal that does bourbon matured it’s entire 7 years in used Tokaji barrels he imports from his hometown in Hungary. Good stuff.
Is it true that this distillery is similar to a beam/Heaven hill flavor profile?
Yeah a beam relative is the master distiller their normal own distillate tastes just like beam
Their Rye is Phenomenal in my opinion. Minor Case Rye. Named after Minor Case Beam.
"soft wood doesn't get the job done" ROFL. Great review! I picked this up but haven't gotten to it yet. I have last year's release which I really liked, and you could definitely tell it was wine finished. I also picked up another Tokaji finished bourbon this year, which was the High N Wicked "The Judge" which was 14 year TN finished in Tokaji. That one is pretty tasty. Looking forward to pitting the 2 against each other. Locally a store got a Tokaji finished Barrell blend (#AXT1) that I've also been eyeing. So many Tokaji releases this year!

This rant is more tame than some you’ve done. I only have one whiskey finished in tokaji and that’s Penelope. Good stuff. I’ve never seen a Yellowstone LE
The only Tokaji finish I tried was a Penelope bourbon, which was pretty good but it didn't give me any fruit and just added more sugar sweetness to it

It was rumored that they sourced from Jim Beam just because of the founders/master distiller. But then they were bought by Luxco, and Luxco was rumored to source from Heaven Hill. But now it’s owned by MGP so who knows any more! 😂
The 7 year is probably their's, the older is sourced for sure. They haven't been distilling for long, maybe 7 years
Great review. We felt very similar about this 1. We bought this because we liked a tokaji finish and had high hopes for this. I don't hate it, I'm just disappointed
Surprise surprise another year and another LE from Yellowstone that fails to justify its msrp color me shocked
The finished craze is getting out of hand. I can do sherry port finishes and they are great. But the ambrana is something I can have in small amounts but not something I’m going to hit nightly. And honestly the prices on these are getting to high for me to go with them. And finding them is hard enough let alone the cost. So this will be a hard pass for me. Nice review. Enjoy!!
