Spirit Ivy was always pretty good at this team fight support. Gun Ivy was just more powerful than it early on, so no one really looked at it. Now with a lot of spirit resist items getting changed to bullet resist, and the new buffs (especially the range buff) people are actually seeing it for how strong it really is.
I played ivy for the first time ever today and picked “ac130 bomb” from the build browser and it was exactly this 😂 pretty fun. I think the item that reduces cooldown on imbued ability could be useful too but range charges and damage/slow are the best
A lot of heroes that you'd usually build weapon, have some interesting spirit builds too. Been trying to build full spirit Paradox with her pulse bomb damage amp and 3 walls + ult
At lower level I would probably rather go echo shard than refresher, kudzu being a non ultimate ability, echo shard will be on a 21s CD instead of 212 from refresher. Sure echo shard is less useful in teamfights (can't stack kudzu, and can't refresh ultimate) but it means that Ivy will always have at least one kudzu charge available at all time so it will have a better uptime overall for skirmishes and farming. You know for sure that in matchmaking your team will pick a fight when you're out of kudzu and refresher is on CD
The biggest part for me is the fact that as you buy these spirit items your laning phase becomes easier and there comes a point where you can just throw one kudzu on a jungle and clear it. At that point where the kudzu is massive and does insane dps already i start jungling everywhere and buy up like 6 insane weapon and lifesteal items and go bonkers with the gun. So much faster than going gun items early building a gun ivy
Is Duration not a good item for this build? It seems like it synergizes really well with Kudzu and also the Air Drop. Perhaps in place of Mystic Reverb?
crazy considering catgirl before had said she was waiting to see someone make a real kudzu bomb build. this makes more sense with weapon items being nerfed
I have always felt slowing hex is a REALLY strong item on ivy simply because it guarantees she can land her gargoyle form, But is this early really better than just hex + mystic punch combo damage? Can always go into kudzu in the mid to late game, but Melee charge, spirit strike, lifestrike, slowing hex and t2 stoneform basically one shots anyone outside of Abrams and shiv
Personally, while Mystic Reverb is nice for the bit of extra aoe, its very cost inefficient. The passive proc only deals 40% of a single tick. You're far better investing into Mystic Slow and spirit damage overall instead.
I thought that too. The passive 15% ability range is really good though and even binding it to your ult doesn't sound too bad for the extra nuke damage. But having it bound to Kudzu does mean it can consistently proc the big AoE slow every time and provide extra utility that way.
I believe the most valueable stuff in this build is just ivy does 4.5s massive aoe silence and the kudzu is just a cherry on top. With refresher it is like 9s, at that point everyone is dead already
I've been playing grenade Kelvin for a while and it's kind of a similar deal. People keep focusing on the beam on spirit builds but the grenade is really fast to toss out and has longer range plus heals.
The only reason this works is because people still aren't building any defensive items despite tanks items being far more efficient than damage items. It's better on Mo and Krill who can lock the enemy down. Ivy barely has any hard CC other than her self-peel. Could definitely build it if you have a Wraith or Dynamo
As someone who used spirit/kudzu Ivy before this update, and who made one of the builds for it [F4U Corsair Ivy]: Kudzu and spirit ivy always dealt insane damage, what was effected this update was the consistency of it via the buff to radius. The spirit scaling buff is pretty negligible, it only pushes a couple extra bits of damage out in th lategame. It is not the slight damage increase, it was that +2m radius increase at max level. Before, it was too easy to get out of, now it actually feels like a proper radius, and combined with the options for stun combos, you can properly nuke people. That said, from a numbers-pusher, I don't recommend refresher. Your options are better spent with superior cd/duration on your four so that you can more frequently fly in general, then surge of power, reach, escalating and rapid recharge for your bombs, boundless spirit chain, and mystic reverb to flight so scale radius of everything.
Guys they didn't buff Kudzu bomb, it's always been this strong with these items lol. I just figured people preferred shooting rather than throwing vines since builds around her 1 weren't as popular.
@@turtley8581 I was wrong, it did get buffed but both of those buffs are not very significant. You could absolutely get similarly high damage numbers with kudzu bomb before that patch.
@@turtley8581 alright so just for you I actually went into the sandbox and did the math on old vs new scaling. Even with every flex slot filled with spirit items (which you probably won't do in most games), you get to around 134 or so spirit. The difference between .7 and .6 spirit scaling at that number are 93 and 80 respectively. Which is about a 13% increase. The difference between 80 and 93 extra DPS when her base at T3 is already 120 dps is incredibly minimal. If you account for her base 120 DPS then that .6 to .7 buff is only about a 6% increase in overall total damage.

I was watching and wanted to cover it with how busted this build looked. Lil recording between games goes far.
I wonder if leaning a but more into gun items will be nice maybe some resist shred. Spirit ivy is super strong i found a build a few weeks ago that had a similar idea but was using echo shard. Refresher is so broken haha
My most played hero and I didn’t realize I could 1 when I was doing ultimate… I have no words 😂
I think that was recent, 2 weeks ago you could only 3 out of air drop, now you can drop a bomb during it too
but how will this affect the economy
I've been doing this build for months... kinda happy but also scared that its meta now after the buff lol, hopefully no nerfs incoming
Also McGinnis supporter was insane too. Gonna reviewing that?
Since you already are focusing on a damaging AoE, how about alchemical fire for this build?
Damage does not scale + uses an active slot
It's better on Mo and Krill who can lock the enemy down. Ivy barely has any hard CC other than her self-peel. Could definitely build it if you have a Wraith or Dynamo
Stupid Gargoyle: Flies around with a Silence bomb and applies DOT to non-suspecting victims without BKB (definitely an S+ tier hero/build)
As someone who used spirit/kudzu Ivy before this update, and who made one of the builds for it [F4U Corsair Ivy]:
Kudzu and spirit ivy always dealt insane damage, what was effected this update was the consistency of it via the buff to radius.
- Ivy: Kudzu Bomb T3 now also grants +2m Radius
- Ivy: Kudzu Bomb spirit power scaling increased from 0.6 to 0.7
it got some pretty big buffs lol
@@turtley8581 I was wrong, it did get buffed but both of those buffs are not very significant. You could absolutely get similarly high damage numbers with kudzu bomb before that patch.
@@MajorCrasher isnt that almost like, 20% more damage scaling? its certainly significant, 2m is a lot of radius too
@@turtley8581 alright so just for you I actually went into the sandbox and did the math on old vs new scaling.
@@MajorCrasher damn
sub out one of the later items for superior cooldown and add that to your ultimate then you've got a very good ambushing gremlin mode
