Really enjoying your videos of Penang. I shall be there next year on October 16th...my 50th birthday so thanks for all those food tips for my culinary birthday tour ;-)
I'm in the middle of Omaha Nebraska and my internet stinks, too! Thank you for another excellent video, I anxiously await each one. My daughter in law is from the Philippines and I am fortunate her mother cooks for us from time to time!
O I'm glad you found this Laksa. It is 100% representing the best of Laksa as 'Penang Laksa' goes on this Planet ! The ones you had in Langkawi are also very good Laksa, but they are the Malay Laksa. They are very representative of the traditional Malay Laksa. And I love both types so very much.
hey Mark, thank you for these amazing videos that you've shared with us! I've been in Penang once too. Such a lovely place to visit indeed, lucky me :) Greetings from Turkey.
Mark ... Please keep these travel blogs coming. It is so nice of you to share your adventures. Mixing in the local attractions with the unique food experiences is just great.
Hello, mark, amazing video yet again. I'm glad you're enjoying my hometown. The black sauce on your laksa is actually shrimp paste. Try going to New Lane for better street food. It will be heaven for you there!
Just subscribed to your channel Mark! I don't normally log in to subscribe people but you are one of the few exceptions. I love every single of ur videos. Your humbleness and the excitement you show everytime you eat just make me want to follow your footsteps in the future! And the food are indeed awesome too. Anyway have a good day and continue what you're doing. God bless...
Love the video's, So detailed and so helpful , Have learned lot's watching your video's. Can't wait until I get to South East Asia and go Exploring. Great job Mark, Keep the awesome video's coming.
Great video Mark, once again I want to eat my computer screen. I went to Malaysia 2 and half years back, I visited KL and Langkawi, but missed Penang, its on my to do list.
Hi Mark, I just came back from Georgetown (13th October): I don't think the 2 sisters are making the noodles anymore as they sat at one corner while a younger lady makes them and a younger guy is also helping out by cleaning tables (maybe they're the grandchildren?) I think I also sat where you sat hahaha. You should also visit Penang Hill if you do visit Penang again :)
Wow the two elderly sisters "Sister's Curry Mee "are working harmoniously, side by side and hard at work. Surprisingly they still have abundant of energy to prepared a delicious noodles. A good examples for other elderly people to follow. The "Asam Laksa" looks healthy and delicious. The temple looks very clean and interesting.
I was also thinking that you are enjoying may be air foods.....love the noodles ....so many days i am not having any noodles .....love the video Mark...
You are KILLING IT my friend! Congrats on 200,000!!! I think you should eat 200,000 of something to celebrate ;) Hoping to reach 100,000 this year too...then we can celebrate when we finally meet each other sometime soon I hope :)
Just looked at your "25 things to do" in Tokyo ... vlog. Don't know how I missed that one, but it is very well done, and I urge others who follow your work to take a look see. Enjoy.
Another great informative video. Loved the view from the pagoda and how you timed explaining the different countries that built each section with the sounding of the gong. Ha!
You ate my favorite laksa!! It's actually include some fish broth :) welcome to Malaysia! Please do visit my hometown, Kelantan. We have Thai food too!
Hello Mark, I'm not yet sure where to go for my next visa stamp from Bangkok but this excursion for a weekend seems a very good plan ! Thanks for your vids, my wife and I appreciate a lot because we seem to love to eat the same things :) Regards Fred
I tell ya Mark, your videos are getting better and better. The noodles dishes looked great, but when I saw you eating the Rojak I could imagine it wasn't your favorite, I know you don't care for things too sweet and I know you used the word molasses. Thanks for sharing your travels with us, You are as awesome as the foods... Lawrence
Hi Mark, Thanks so much for the videos, they are awesome. I am going to be in Bangkok on August 3-6 and was wondering if you could recommend to me one or two quintessential Bangkok street food/hole in the wall experiences that I shouldn't miss, and what dishes to order. I can't thank you enough for your help. Tom C.
Mark Wiens that what you doing is awesome. its more than just a food video now its kinda story that make me feel visiting places that you visited. thank you.
Mark: Great site! Great videos! All the foods are so yummy, you have my dream job! But, there is a very troubling issue i have, regarding the unsanitary condition of many of the eateries you presented(primarily in Asian countries such as India, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam; etc. ), and how the foods were handled and prepared. Are you ever concerned about unsanitary issues in a restaurant setting? Eating delicious foods from all these places, are you ever concerned about health issues ? Have you ever gotten sick from eating in any of the places you ate from? Do you do anything in particular, to safeguard yourself from eating at "unsanitary" places?
Hi Mark .... probably you did not realize that the sisters selling the sisters curry mee are both aged 80+ year old so it is really admirable that these folks are still working at this age.
Would love to visit that temple! My wife would too, I'm sure! You & your videos are a lot of fun to watch! Never stop making new ones! Willem Tensen, Burbank, California
What a wonderful video. The people in Malaysia seem absolutely wonderful! Was this city called Penang?? The food seemed nice, but I got a bit shocked when i saw those black pieces in the noodle bowl. Was it pieces of blood?? Thanks for a lovely video and what a great day you guys had!! I have had relatives who lived for a while in Malaysia. I think they loved living there. I have heard a lot of good stuff about Malyasia, and from what i see, like, in this video, it seems awesome there. I am gonna cook South East Asian food for my boyfriend one day, and I will see if he likes it. I don't think he is so used to eating it, but hopefully when he tries it, he will love it!!!!! Peace and Love from Sweden.
Mark Wiens saw the Bata sign on a post..are there still Bata shoes out Asia way? As a kid on the islands mom always got our back to school shoes there.
Ha ! Ha ! We thought Bata sells to Malaysia only . Shock to see it in overseas. I forgotten what countries, Australia, Britain or Paris ! But the price is sky high. Yes, the kids still buy Bata shoes to School , of course , some buy the expensive brand too. But majority buy Bata !
Mark Wiens you hit 200000 subscribers. Really happy for you. And keep up the great videos. God bless! May you reach a million subscribers some day. I am have seen you come a long way Mark! Thank you for all the great food videos and travel vlogs. 😊👍👌
That rice vermicelli is known as 'bihun' in malaysia. In fact, we call the sheredded pink flower on the laksa as ginger torch which is known as 'bunga kantan' in malay that can be used for making curries. Mint is one of the herbs added into the laksa. Fritters served on rojak is called 'youtiao' in mandarin or 'char kueh' in hokkien (a kind of southern chinese dialect) and i really love it since i was a kid.
Mark while you're in Penang you've got to try the legendary Char Kuey Teow there. There are many stalls that sell it but with the help of locals you will get to a few famous ones. Definitely worth seing you react to this tasty plate of noodles :)
Omg...you went to my hometown. The brown sauce you had in your laksa is the shrimp sauce called "he ko". To make the dish not so sweet you can ask them to put less of the shrimp sauce. The soup base is a mackerel fish soup base. They put some lime inside too to make it slightly sour
Hey mark. That black sauce on the laksa is actually prawn paste. We call it petis udang or otak udang which literally means prawn brain lol. Thats a scary thought.
Omg youre so awesome mark! You dont really have pimples after eating so much spicy stuff but I get pimples after eating a bowl of curry noodles! Whyyyyyyy
I like your Expression whenever you take the first mouthful of food. Wonder how you manage to keep yourself Slim after consuming all the food from the region that you are reviewing.
