As I remember it, this was a very strange affair. He was allegedly hired by the Italians to assassinate the king but had also been an agent for what would eventually become MI5. He claimed he deliberately foiled his own attempt.
I really have one question about this film having seen it a few times, I am quite sure that when discussing the royal visit they speak of a parade of the "Yorkshire Hussars" when the soldiers shown in the film are at least from what I can make out from the Royal Horse Artillery (I might be wrong about the specific unit, but the soldiers in the film are without a doubt Horse Artillery), I find this to be an odd decision on the writers part.
The Cavalry Uniforms are Similar so to a degree so most of the Audience watching the film won't notice. But if you want a history based answer in the 1920s Cavalry Regiments were under review by a commission when it came to the Territorial Forces and most TF Cavalry get stood down or converted to other types of Regiments but the Hussars stay as Cavalry until world war 2 and then they become armoured and in 1944 they will serve as Infantry for a time. Also TF is the TA
The Uniforms at a distance are very much alike Rather like the Standard Red Uniforms of most regiments from only a few years before the event was supposed to have happened,
