@Conssumed it's actually a design used in multiple games (they don't come to my mind) but is usually un intrusive while being at hand so it works imo, this one is a little too bright for me but hey it works
My only complaint about this game is the UI. The game can't decide whether I should click on buttons or use the cursor as a mouse. Plus double button presses on menu items?! That's just ridiculous
I think it's higher than a 4 for sure, especially being free. I do agree the story is pushing you too fast, and definitely the UI needs work for PS5. I don't think you should avoid like the plague as the title suggests. It doesn't look like he got far. A bit unprofessional in my opinion. If you like RPGs or Gachas try it out, its free, I'm enjoying it so it far, about 6-7 hours in.

I enjoy this game for what it is, there are clear flaws but the exploration is fun and the combat is pretty satisfying. Though the default keybinds for the combat are garbage so I re-mapped them to be more similar to Genshin's, so Sprint/Dodge is R1 and normal attacking is Circle. But my fucking god the UI navigation is absolutely abhorrent. And to bring up the cursor to make it less infuriating is equally annoying because it's temperamental and doesn't always register properly so I'm firing attacks at nothing with my character trying to bring it up. To switch foods for your character to achieve satiation for regeneration, you have to press Triangle and Square to bring up the cursor, move that cursor down to the two up arrows above the food icon next to your health bar, which then brings up the food menu but also removes the cursor again - which is the only way you can select a food item - so you have to press Triangle + Square *again* to bring it back. I've still yet to figure out how to scroll that menu up and down, and there have been times where food I wanted to equip was off-screen. The game doesn't tell you about the Cursor unless you press L1 to bring up the menu wheel. Which I didn't do for a long time. I also love not being able to jump when the game tells me I've made progress towards exploration with a little popup, because my Jump button is mapped to the same button that brings up the exploration menu with that popup up - X. The most common button keybind for jumping.
On Playstation use square and triangle at the same time to use the cursor. Makes all menu navigation easy. Hit again to go back to normal. This one tip made this game go from frustrating to massively fun.
Tower of Fantasy is an insanely fun game with a multitude of fun shit to do. Example: after hours of game play me and a friend decided to cross a large body of water that separates the first area (think like immortals phoenix rising) and we stopped to fish instead of flying over like we were about to (he just unlocked fishing) and I ended pulling out an ice styling gun and was blown away when I could create a whole ice bridge to cross. Not like genshin impact where you wait for a cool down for like 10 feet of ice on the water this made me feel powerful like I had control of the terrain. Also that blue bar at the bottom is your XP meter not a download IGN just straight spreading lies about this amazing game.
It's GamingBolt and not IGN. Sometimes, even the most knowledgeable and professional reviewer can be wrong. My friends say it's fun and keep wanting me to check it out. I just might.

Been playing for past year on mobile since Global launch. Every day. PS5 version is quite fun once you get adjusted to the UI controls and it's tough to avoid shifting focus to that version... but it's exciting with the new community, it seems to have a LOT of people playing on Playstation.
Same but it's only really available on PS5. I didn't even want to try and attempt ToF on PS4 it would probably explode. My biggest concern with ToF on PS5 is mainly menu controls. In games menus are literally how you interact with the game so being able to easily access what you need is important. I've had to come up with all kinds of tricks to access things like Suppressor material which is important to the story. I don't see myself recommending ToF right now to anyone. It should've spent more time in development. I love the game it's just not really something I'd be proud to tell someone else about it😑😑😑
Goodness can I look up ToF without haters being pushed to the top? Having legitimate issues with PS5 aside doesnt give you license to burn the entire game down.

I actually really like this game and I usually hate these gotcha RPGs but this one just hits different, I already have 4 about to have 5 SSRs and i haven't spent a cent on the banner currency, the controls and UI take a minute to get used to but once ur passed that it's actually a pretty enjoyable mmo with plenty of endgame stuff to do
I played the hell out of this on PC. It starts off so great. It eventually gets to a point where you have to spend like crazy if you just want to keep pace, let alone be competitive. Enjoy it while you can, but please don't spend. You will regret it.
Ignoring the gatcha and looking at this purely as an action adventure mmo it is incredibly fun and well put together. More people should play this game it’s super fun to play with friends or honestly even solo the cutscenes n shit are impressive for a free shared world/mmo

For all the good things that ToF did right in recent times, BOY did it burn day 1 players with its 2% gold equipment (the equivalent of gold artifacts in Genshin) drop rate. Basically you couldn't progress past level 60- 70 besides being stupid lucky and/or whaling on the gacha system since level scaling had you earning EXP faster than what you could keep up with grinding Memory and equipment (at the time, they forced you to advance world tiers as well). They only overhauled that system as late as May 11th, 2023 (really the beginning of this summer), meaning the real f2p playerbase only started getting a real foothold at that point by just being ABLE to progress without fear of falling behind the level scaling. The addition of Fenrir has pretty much invalidated the existence of every prior character with straight up powercreep, meaning a large percent of the current roster will be useless in the years going forward bc subsequent characters have to top Fenrir to justify higher sales by the spending population of players. For all of the vast levels to explore and the animations done, the fact that something like a basic gameplay loop took over half a year to fix does not spark confidence in Hotta Studio, the developer behind the game. Less can be said for their aggressive publisher, Level Infinite.
I like this game because its a bit more linear in narrative so you always know what to next. The gacha element is not as harsh as genshin impact cause i have spent about 50h and only got one ssr character but in tof i have five do far and i only played 20h.
One SSR character is not equivalent to one 5 star unit in Genshin. At least when it comes to Gacha. If you care about doing dmg, you're going to be paying more in TOF, and good luck getting the new outfits and skins. If all you care about is collecting and playing with new units, then TOF is a better value.
I thought the UI of HoYo games had problems, but this game takes that notion to new heights. It took me 5 minutes to realize you had to hold X and press directional buttons to adjust the slider value in character customization. Also, overall, this games seems unfinished in certain areas: when talking to characters, after finishing a piece of dialogue, they’ll just immediately hop back into their idle animation. Sometimes, localization is all messed up, like, the Scrap bot in the first area will start talking in English, then proceeds to randomly spout one line of dialogue in Japanese. Or you’ll have text to inform you of an area you’re in be in French all of a sudden, when you’re playing the game in German. It just breaks the immersion.
for new players on PS5, welcome, I've met a few of you on twitch, just wait till you see the islands and the underwater areas and of course domain 9, I just love the exploring part where you can spend days finding new stuff
I mean I decided to download it on ps5 and try it and so far I like it. I see ppl complaining about the animations and voice acting and such in the little cut scenes but they remind so much of kingdoms hearts one and two because they were kind of like that and I like it. I will admit they gotta definitely change controls, I'm on the starpath navigation points event thing and I can't move the cursor over to view rewards
As a PC player the game is fun but as a f2p it's somewhat challenging to get your overall power up since you need duplicates of the 5*s for a good portion of damage whereas in genshin it's really only based on artifacts.

@@HellGatyr It's ok as f2p. Not the most generous of gachas but not the stingiest. You can play as f2p and do respectable damage however that requires resource planning and minmaxing your pulls as well as foresight into future character banners. You also will only main 1 elemental comp and your teams will be around 3 star across the board. It is possible to get 6 star as f2p but it requires a lot of skipping and I personally don't recommend 6 starring characters in this game cause they eventually go to standard banner where you can 6 star them later for free. If you play casually you can pretty much guarantee an SSR per patch or 100% guarantee the banner character every 2 patches (2 months) as f2p. You can decide to pull several characters instead of maining 1 element, however expect them to be at 0 star. The newer characters work fully with complete kit at 0 star, however stars do add passive benefits, QoL and power. There is vertical power creep where newer character = stronger (similarly to Honkai 3rd). However if you're a casual player, you can take time off, come back and eventually see your characters moved to standard banner (prolly like 6 months). Keep in mind usually new characters at 0 star outperform old characters at 6 star. However there are few exceptions and recently an old character got massively buffed and is on par with the new generation characters. Many support characters also stay relevant too due to the way their kits work. DPS characters are ones who usually have short shelf life. Kinda ended up writing an essay lol but hope this helped. xD Umm on average per patch = 60-100 pulls. Pity is 80 pulls (It's 50/50) and guarantee banner character is 100 pulls if you're an old timer, 110 pulls if you've played for 2-3 weeks and 120 pulls if you're completely new.
You can try this game but my tip is get your expectation low...or very low in fact. Combat and setting is fun, imo, but any other aspect of this sucks d**ks including the story. We played this for months when it released globally and we hated it eventually. We quit when we realized how cash grab-y it is and power-creeping becomes very apparent. Some stayed and still plays this, though. I tried to come back during its first anniversary but seeing how its still not optimized (it even crashed my game) I didn't bother fixing it and uninstalled quickly.

i honestly just have a problem with the UI its just horrible, plus ive tried playing eith my friend (Yes we were both in the same channel) they barely appeared on my screen and disappeared mostly it was annoying and immersion breaking
30sec in already says genshin 5 times. That's how you know it's going to be a bad review. The only thing in common with genshin are that they are both anime style, gacha and from China. Everything else is totally the opposite. Also. No bro. That line it's obviously the XP bar. 🙄 It even lights up when you get xp. Enemies are weak? Laughing in void abyss, origin or war, frontier evolution, and so many game modes.. Come on man. It's fine if you didn't like the game, but at least educate yourself first before putting such a clickbaity title 😂

After 3 days of learning how to navigate the UI and quest on the map, I actually like this game. It has a sprinkle of everything though very rough around the edges but fun to play
@@YourLastWish there are tons of day 1 players and new players having fun. You sound very jaded. Like any game if you burn through content there won't be much to do. Take your time, enjoy the game. As a new player that knows many day 1 players we are all having fun. At a minimum the average player has 1 to 3 months of just quest content. Add in exploration and all the daily stuff and as long as your not playing like a no lifer you are set for a very long time even as f2p. I used to be a hardcore player in games. That is the easiest way to burnout and feel like games offer nothing or have no content. Took a bit but now things are much more enjoyable. Want to play a game for free? You can have months worth of content for 0 dollars. If I step out my front door it costs more than that.

I quit like month after sword fan chick was released. I spent plenty of money on this game to continue enjoying it. But it required money to make it fun

I don't think the game overall is horrible but it's initial impression is proof that Sony doesn't QA games on it's platform and will let any ol garbage release there.

I was going to try it sense it’s free but when I got to the the character select and tried to pick one nothing. The left stick wouldn’t swap the selected character, I then tried the bumpers but before I know it I selected the wrong one. I wasn’t intending to play it long but this immediately cut the time I’d give it to 0.
@@Plsrateeight it’s called poor ui dumbass This would be like if you got the game on pc but the mouse and arrow keys aren’t used to select. But left click is still confirm and now you’ve just made an irreversible choice because they expected you to just know that you select with the a and d keys.
@@Plsrateeightkeep in mind the was over the course of 10 seconds while I was looking at the characters. Also the analogy breaks down at the “left click confirm” because they made the ass backwards decision to make right trigger confirm instead of X. It’s almost like they did it to be contrarian.
I like the game, but yea the UI was a trip to figure out how to navigate, which can be a turn-off. Also, the whiplash of the story was jarring for a while, as if a large chunk of it was taken out, made into a 10-sec montage clip and after a few missions and encounters, it goes back to before you reach that point with the girl turning into Nemesis. Combat is good, a but weird that the “skins” don’t come with perks I don’t think, idk, not everything is unlocked, but it’s okay for a game once you have to figure out the UI and ignore the plot-jump going back and forth

With Genshin releasing Fontaine this week, I would spend my time catching up on that instead. Tower of Fantasy is fun but is a drop in quality compared to Genshin.
@@kafka_BOOM HSR is a different type of game though. With it's turn-based combat, it's not an open world RPG like Genshin. If we're talking about gameplay, Tof is more similar to Genshin than it is to HSR. And some ppl don't like turn-based games.
People being like "the only issue is the UI" as if that's not the means through which you traverse and interact with the entire game. I've played video games all my life, I'm usually pretty capable of picking up on what buttons do what but this is a constant guessing game. None of the functions are mapped the same way twice. There are four or five different buttons you could use to navigate, good luck finding the right one. I can't get into ruins because it asks me to enter but then....none of the buttons respond? Neither the d-pad or the joystick? The game is unplayable if you can't get down the basics of moving and working with their menus and interfaces so to say it's the only flaw....well, it's a pretty glaring flaw. After a couple days, I'm still confounded by a few things. Also I got literally like nine of the same weapon in a row. I get that it's RNG but either increase your weapon pool or weight it a little differently. This isn't even me saying these things because I like Genshin more. It's all the quality of life issues that this game has and frankly, it's unpolished and unfinished. Other pet peeve is I'm playing in English but the NPC will glitch out and start speaking some other language. That doesn't happen in Genshin and if it did, it would be promptly fixed.
Maybe im just burnt out with genshin but if i ignore the UI on ps5, tof seems interesting "so far" Also this video should have had "sponsored by hoyoverse" disclaimer xD
Well, i got it the moment it was released, and have played it pretty solidly. I expected it to be the usual free to play dross, but i am actually enjoying it. Ots true that the voice actors never met each other it seems, and reading from a script where names and the pronunciation of names was never standardised (Palu is pronounced Paul by some characters, and executor is pronounced both ways, despite having very different meanings. Reviewer is clearly a fan boy for some other franchise.. most criticism is baseless.. My main bugbear is parts of ui where it's unnecessarily difficult to change a costume colour, and once set, you can't change it without costly in game currency
despite the UI situation, i have to totally dissagree with your point of view. This game had its "Dark age" on the beggining on PC but now its very very good, pretty fun and much more F2P friendly compared to others on the same family, the gameplay is fluid and funny (At least on PC) and your biggest mistake is trying to compare it with Genshin cause the games are totaly diferent on its purposes. Genshin is a casual story game with almost none online elements, ToF is an MMO, focussed on online activities, i know that there are some similarities like graphics and World exploration but its not exclusive to genshin, other games have it too. Comparing ToF and Genshin is like to compare Fallout 4 with New world, dont make any sense. Other than that i respect your opinion! and i trully recomend you to play more of the game to see for yourself all im saying. Thanks for attention! Gave it a shot, it's nowhere near as bad as the reviewer claims. Not going to say it's impressive. But neither is Genshin and dude seems to be stuck hard on that game. At the end of the day, it's a gacha game., just like the reviewer's beloved Genshin Impact. They're all designed with two purposes in mind. Keep you playing and get you to open your wallet and keep you spending. So far the story is just your average generic dystopian JRPG. You could do better by not playing a gacha game. You could also do worse .
Tower of Fantasy on PS5 would've been amazing.... If it spent another year in the oven. Overall I wouldn't recommend anyone play Tower of Fantasy, this game is for people who already play it. It's glitchy, confusing menu controls, really touch and go story, the character creation is rendered useless with Simulacra, and graphics need polishing. Tower of Fantasy has potential just not a lot of opportunity or time to reach it🤔🤔🤔
The makers of this game should be ashamed of themselves. The PC version always had terrible controller support. But to port this game to a console without fixing that terrible controller functionality is unacceptable. Button presses don’t even register at times. This game should not be on a console in its current state. This developer has extremely low standards. You’re exposing a new potential player base to your work. Why wouldn’t you polish your product and put your best foot forward. It was obviously a lot of work building these characters and worlds. You’re not going to make Geshin money by putting out crap like this.
9:21 I absolutely agree and the amount of copium in the comment section is crazy. This game is going to be dead when the new gachas come out and thats because there aren’t that many people playing it. Get used to soloing most the content and that’s when the games flaws really come out. The leveling is the worst. While your level goes up fast your gear will be underpowered for a while and not matching your level. The exploration progression bar is also terrible because it pops up at the worst time. I also don’t need to see same button you dodge with pop up while I’m fighting that enemy
On PS5 the game is horrid. The menu and UI navigation is really bad, performance is inconsistent. The story suddenly skipped a lot of chapters. I deleted it after a few hours..

Yeah, I've been playing this game for about 4-5 days now and I'm actually enjoying the drop rates for SSR characters. No lie when I say this, I've played Genshin for a few months after launch and haven't gotten a single SSR in it before I quit. The only gripe I have with this game is using the left joystick to navigate the menu and the lag on PS4, but it's nothing game breaking for me
I played for 3 months on pc and mobile, I've run out of things to do on Honkai so I'm trying PS5 version. At its heart it's a great game ruined by predatory monetisation, yes I know its a gacha, but they've pushed it too far. You get nothing for playing the game other than profile picture frames, fancy that nice outfit, that's £200. Simulacrum have big parts of their functionality locked behind dupes, so you've managed to pull Lynn, and it only cost you £100, but then find she's borderline useless until you've pulled 2 more dupes. Genshin and Honkai used dupes but the big difference is they were playable at E0. Also after 3 months on PC the servers were empty, you sometimes spent an hour waiting for enough people to turn up to challenge the bosses. The community was toxic, high level high spenders constantly complaining about lower level E0 players joining fights, all in all a mess, there's better out there
I was so glad when Tower of Fantasy came playstation 4 and playstation 5, I've started playing Tower of Fantasy with ps4 and it looks surprisilly good on ps4. 😮
Blue bar below screen is character XP in PC, i think it's the same with PS5, please check your information. Problem with review is that they didn't view the game in MMO mode, any MMO aspect or characteristic was omitted from the review. Hence, the 500 likes from 36k views of a biased reviewer. Newsflash, this is not a singleplayer like Genshin, the fact that fanboys find that hard to believe and can't see that, is the sole reason they can't compete in MMO games, literal skill issue.
So I kinda get why cross save isn’t a thing, even though back at launch I got 4 of the limited characters. But there’s literally no excuse for no invert camera settings. Is this 2000? Games have had this option for decades now

As many other commenters are saying, i enjoy this game so far. I dont find it as annoying as Genshin, (Paimon) and like the Simulacra idea vs Genshin's 100 different characters.

Tbh the idea of different characters having different playable forms is likely inspired by hoyo's other game Honkai impact with their battlesuit system. I too like the idea more than a crapton of characters in genshin but the games story just doesnt do it for me, they feel even worse than genshin characters which are terrible themselves. I still question why I still play these games
Ok so the UI wasn't just fighting me on PS5. That makes me feel a bit better. Also hate how spoken dialogue at the start randomly switches between English and Japanese. That's just poor quality control in the beginning of the game. The early story jumps between too many things and really didn't give me much to even try getting into it. To be fair, I liked some of the early stuff in Genshin but the artifact grind got to me.

Horrendous review its all optional it is extremely generous you just skipped ahead instead of going through the story correctly or exploreing witch gives you relics and tutorials but yes the ui is fkin horrible needs a remake
Don’t even go over story quests or all the different weapons (genshin has 5) tof has a new weapon for each charecter, you get the charecter? Bam you get thier weapon! Don’t have to roll for both! And you don’t have to play as that charecter with that weapon! Mix and match have fun!
I hate genshin no dis if you like it but I really like town of fantasy that being said I do hate that they tried to force to to skip passed the story I was so confused and just wanted to get back to the game not 30 min of cutseans

Don't even get into their powercrept hell that forcing you to get newest characters to stay relevant in leaderboard and to beat the endgame, 4 star in game straight completely useless and any old characters are worth nothing now while in genshin characters from 3 years ago still relevant in meta

The fact you open with praising Genshin says enough to me lol. Genshin is literally just a trophy collector at this point, at least TOF has end game content and real combat.
I still prefer genshin. TOF has end game content because it's a MMO. Genshin isn't. And real combat? Idk about that I disagree. I think genshin feels a lot better and it's more fun imo.
Both this game and Genshin sucks, for different reasons. Genshin developers don't care about updating their damn store to make you exchange starglitter for anything other than fucking 1.0 4* release characters, fucking awful weapon banners, only Abyss and they don't care about fixing that awful artifact system. Tower of Fantasy sure has endgame content, too bad it's only enjoyable for whales, since every month they powercreep the previous unit, so if you don't spend your soul every month, you'll only be carried by said whales in endgame anyways.
I am not really surprised about the review because every major reviewer who tried the game gave it a very similar rating and had similar experiences. The game isn’t for everyone tbh. I was a day one global release player, but I only played for a week then quit because it got really boring for me no matter how much I tried to like the game. I still keep my eyes on it, and the game has improved quite a bit since then, but still nothing exciting that makes me want to jump back into it again. And I think that’s the problem with the game. while it is very beautiful, new characters, story improved a bit, new maps, those alone cannot make players really hyped to jump back into it again. It need something really exciting, like you’d see in a new patch for any other online game that’ll get people talking and can’t wait to jump back into it. Games like Genshin, WoW, FF14, some FPS games, Legend of Zelda, Mario games, Fighting games, etc. They can create buzz. Why is it not like that for Tower of Fantasy?

Just played this. Feels like a pay to play iPad or mobile game. The menu system UI is a mess, like a busy mess that has limited movement function but may work better with a touch screen. The only thing i like about this game are the graphics and character models. The game needs a UI overhaul and some more unique combat styles and unlockables to make the game feel challenging and rewarding.

The controls are the worst and the character creation is terrible the limited hair styles the boring cutscenes i stopped playing gi because of how much I felt like I had to spend money just or a item or character that I may not get but gi opening was way more interesting and less generic
I played it yesterday on my base ps4, the only thing so far I think that catchs my attention is that the game ran at 60FPS on the base ps4. the graphics are not as good nor polished as Genshin Impact, and just like the ps5 version the draw distance looks like a Nintendo Switch game.. the trees get so low res in the distance, and just like the ps5 the popup is everywhere, I mean the moment I turned on the game everything at the start screen popped up on my face while the texture are still loading, I thought this is a ps4 only thing but even the ps5 version does that, wtf? the game on console aren't finished too probably a regional thing but most of the stuff in the game aren't available yet. the UI is very clunky and weird, some time you enter a menu and it doesn't tell you what each button does or how to even navigate them, some cut scene will let you skip them and other don't, some of the menu are so low res as if it was up scaled from a mobile device to a big screen without any polish, and the freaking game almost ate my entire HDD free space, it started as 40GB required, it grew to 50GB during during download and after it finished it hits 68.3GB which puts me off right away. since there are other games I was planning to play and need to free some space on the hard drive for them only for this game to ate all of that free space away. Tower of Fantasy is basically Genshin Impact at home, even though you can play Genshin Impact in the same two platforms for free, they even tried to copy the emergency food Pimon. I'm this close to delete TOF off of my ps4, but i'll give it one more chance by playing through it a bit. I highly recommend people to wait until they patch everything up and complete the game on console if you wAnna play it on ps4 and ps5.
They gonna fix UI in next maintenance update and the quality argument is kinda invalid since Genshin is higher budget game with better graphics and the company is rich while ToF is low budget game by a small company and still producing a good looking game and improving it.
The game is okay and almost felt impressive the first few chapters. Basically it's what you see is what you get. It *is* Gacha gambling *and* "f2p" Combat is android level Exploration is bland but "better than genshin" Story is bla bla bla and it depends on your standard of storytelling. There's the illusion of customisation which is lackluster It provides relics which are gadgets to spice your gameplay but just enough for story purposes and i guess muh combat, and mounts or vehicles which actually show the emptiness of the world actually is. It's like FFXV but worse Actually surprised to see how much people defending it from what the game actually is. Bland and stale with a few bits that actually shines.
I find myself rooting for Tower of Fantasy now. With all the constant bashing, the devs keep pushing for a super fast new map, new feature, and its free too. ToF devs might not be as skillful and experienced as Genshin or other MMO, but their passion is showing.
I still can’t get into the game, because I’m unhappy with my choice of weapons. I’d rather just be able to buy the weapon that I want, but you can’t do that because there’s a gotcha system. Yeah, the developers can’t have you getting the weapon that you want from the very start because then that doesn’t give them a chance to rip you off. The fact that some may have gotten certain weapons that you wanted is what gives them their argument, but everyone isn’t into gambling. So why can’t we just purchase the fucking weapons? I’m gonna check out Tales of Arise.

Genshin wasn't buggy at launch. It just had leggy servers in co op and that was it and money hungry? I know you aren't talking shit when ToF literally has a gacha for just about everything. Characters, gear, outfits, mounts, there's even gacha in exploration part of the game. If that wasn't enough, there's a ton of powercreep. Genshin has too many players for anyone to believe this BS.
@@galaxydust_There's no gacha in exploration, there are F2P mounts you can farm for, including underwater mounts for Innars Grand Sea map. Version 3.1 has become much more F2P friendly than 1.0 at launch.
Some TOF fans are mad in the comments, but it's true that the game is disappointing. Especially so because it had a lot of potential. But when compared to its competition, the lack of polish is blatant. The combat is good. The world looks pretty. There are good ideas in there. But sometimes it just feels like they haphazardly threw all these things in without much care. There's an awkwardness that's ever present is how I would put it I guess? And that's without talking about the port itself being just... not it - even more so on PS4.

I have got a soft spot for Tower of Fantasy, so I disliked the video. Btw, this was a terrible review; Do your research. First, the UI is cluttered because the game has been out for over a year for both PC and mobile. Did you think this game is new? It's the latest version that has 2 years' worth of patches and updates put into the PlayStation's version. "It's tedious equipping weapons". Of course, genius, on the PC version you can simply drag the weapons into place with mouse and keyboard. Damn ranting is contagious.

I dont see why all hate. I been playing Tof since launch and it has come a long way. Sure its no genshin killer but I'll chose this one over Genshin any day now just because exploration and grind is not such a chore. Gacha system is way more generous then genshin as well. I think it's higher than a 4 for sure, especially being free. I do agree the story is pushing you too fast, and definitely the UI needs work for PS5. I don't think you should avoid like the plague as the title suggests. It doesn't look like he got far. A bit unprofessional in my opinion. If you like RPGs or Gachas try it out, its free, I'm enjoying it so it far, about 6-7 hours in.

I enjoy this game for what it is, there are clear flaws but the exploration is fun and the combat is pretty satisfying. Though the default keybinds for the combat are garbage so I re-mapped them to be more similar to Genshin's, so Sprint/Dodge is R1 and normal attacking is Circle.
But my fucking god the UI navigation is absolutely abhorrent. And to bring up the cursor to make it less infuriating is equally annoying because it's temperamental and doesn't always register properly so I'm firing attacks at nothing with my character trying to bring it up. To switch foods for your character to achieve satiation for regeneration, you have to press Triangle and Square to bring up the cursor, move that cursor down to the two up arrows above the food icon next to your health bar, which then brings up the food menu but also removes the cursor again - which is the only way you can select a food item - so you have to press Triangle + Square *again* to bring it back. I've still yet to figure out how to scroll that menu up and down, and there have been times where food I wanted to equip was off-screen.
The game doesn't tell you about the Cursor unless you press L1 to bring up the menu wheel. Which I didn't do for a long time.
I also love not being able to jump when the game tells me I've made progress towards exploration with a little popup, because my Jump button is mapped to the same button that brings up the exploration menu with that popup up - X. The most common button keybind for jumping.
On Playstation use square and triangle at the same time to use the cursor. Makes all menu navigation easy. Hit again to go back to normal. This one tip made this game go from frustrating to massively fun.
Tower of Fantasy is an insanely fun game with a multitude of fun shit to do. Example: after hours of game play me and a friend decided to cross a large body of water that separates the first area (think like immortals phoenix rising) and we stopped to fish instead of flying over like we were about to (he just unlocked fishing) and I ended pulling out an ice styling gun and was blown away when I could create a whole ice bridge to cross. Not like genshin impact where you wait for a cool down for like 10 feet of ice on the water this made me feel powerful like I had control of the terrain. Also that blue bar at the bottom is your XP meter not a download IGN just straight spreading lies about this amazing game.
It's GamingBolt and not IGN. Sometimes, even the most knowledgeable and professional reviewer can be wrong. My friends say it's fun and keep wanting me to check it out. I just might.

Been playing for past year on mobile since Global launch. Every day. PS5 version is quite fun once you get adjusted to the UI controls and it's tough to avoid shifting focus to that version... but it's exciting with the new community, it seems to have a LOT of people playing on Playstation.
The only thing that probably turns me off on the PlayStation version is that I can connect it to my PC mobile account.
Same but it's only really available on PS5. I didn't even want to try and attempt ToF on PS4 it would probably explode. My biggest concern with ToF on PS5 is mainly menu controls. In games menus are literally how you interact with the game so being able to easily access what you need is important. I've had to come up with all kinds of tricks to access things like Suppressor material which is important to the story. I don't see myself recommending ToF right now to anyone. It should've spent more time in development. I love the game it's just not really something I'd be proud to tell someone else about it😑😑😑

I actually really like this game and I usually hate these gotcha RPGs but this one just hits different, I already have 4 about to have 5 SSRs and i haven't spent a cent on the banner currency, the controls and UI take a minute to get used to but once ur passed that it's actually a pretty enjoyable mmo with plenty of endgame stuff to do

I played the hell out of this on PC. It starts off so great. It eventually gets to a point where you have to spend like crazy if you just want to keep pace, let alone be competitive. Enjoy it while you can, but please don't spend. You will regret it.

First: the game is free
The UI was made for PC and mobile. Now, they r adapting...
For all the good things that ToF did right in recent times, BOY did it burn day 1 players with its 2% gold equipment (the equivalent of gold artifacts in Genshin) drop rate. Basically you couldn't progress past level 60- 70 besides being stupid lucky and/or whaling on the gacha system since level scaling had you earning EXP faster than what you could keep up with grinding Memory and equipment (at the time, they forced you to advance world tiers as well).
They only overhauled that system as late as May 11th, 2023 (really the beginning of this summer), meaning the real f2p playerbase only started getting a real foothold at that point by just being ABLE to progress without fear of falling behind the level scaling. The addition of Fenrir has pretty much invalidated the existence of every prior character with straight up powercreep, meaning a large percent of the current roster will be useless in the years going forward bc subsequent characters have to top Fenrir to justify higher sales by the spending population of players.
For all of the vast levels to explore and the animations done, the fact that something like a basic gameplay loop took over half a year to fix does not spark confidence in Hotta Studio, the developer behind the game. Less can be said for their aggressive publisher, Level Infinite.

I like this game because its a bit more linear in narrative so you always know what to next. The gacha element is not as harsh as genshin impact cause i have spent about 50h and only got one ssr character but in tof i have five do far and i only played 20h.
One SSR character is not equivalent to one 5 star unit in Genshin. At least when it comes to Gacha. If you care about doing dmg, you're going to be paying more in TOF, and good luck getting the new outfits and skins. If all you care about is collecting and playing with new units, then TOF is a better value.

I thought the UI of HoYo games had problems, but this game takes that notion to new heights.
It took me 5 minutes to realize you had to hold X and press directional buttons to adjust the slider value in character customization.
Also, overall, this games seems unfinished in certain areas: when talking to characters, after finishing a piece of dialogue, they’ll just immediately hop back into their idle animation. Sometimes, localization is all messed up, like, the Scrap bot in the first area will start talking in English, then proceeds to randomly spout one line of dialogue in Japanese. Or you’ll have text to inform you of an area you’re in be in French all of a sudden, when you’re playing the game in German.
It just breaks the immersion.

for new players on PS5, welcome, I've met a few of you on twitch, just wait till you see the islands and the underwater areas and of course domain 9, I just love the exploring part where you can spend days finding new stuff
I mean I decided to download it on ps5 and try it and so far I like it. I see ppl complaining about the animations and voice acting and such in the little cut scenes but they remind so much of kingdoms hearts one and two because they were kind of like that and I like it.
I will admit they gotta definitely change controls, I'm on the starpath navigation points event thing and I can't move the cursor over to view rewards

As a PC player the game is fun but as a f2p it's somewhat challenging to get your overall power up since you need duplicates of the 5*s for a good portion of damage whereas in genshin it's really only based on artifacts.

@@HellGatyr It's ok as f2p. Not the most generous of gachas but not the stingiest. You can play as f2p and do respectable damage however that requires resource planning and minmaxing your pulls as well as foresight into future character banners. You also will only main 1 elemental comp and your teams will be around 3 star across the board. It is possible to get 6 star as f2p but it requires a lot of skipping and I personally don't recommend 6 starring characters in this game cause they eventually go to standard banner where you can 6 star them later for free.
If you play casually you can pretty much guarantee an SSR per patch or 100% guarantee the banner character every 2 patches (2 months) as f2p. You can decide to pull several characters instead of maining 1 element, however expect them to be at 0 star. The newer characters work fully with complete kit at 0 star, however stars do add passive benefits, QoL and power.
There is vertical power creep where newer character = stronger (similarly to Honkai 3rd). However if you're a casual player, you can take time off, come back and eventually see your characters moved to standard banner (prolly like 6 months). Keep in mind usually new characters at 0 star outperform old characters at 6 star. However there are few exceptions and recently an old character got massively buffed and is on par with the new generation characters. Many support characters also stay relevant too due to the way their kits work. DPS characters are ones who usually have short shelf life.

Umm on average per patch = 60-100 pulls. Pity is 80 pulls (It's 50/50) and guarantee banner character is 100 pulls if you're an old timer, 110 pulls if you've played for 2-3 weeks and 120 pulls if you're completely new.

You can try this game but my tip is get your expectation low...or very low in fact.
Combat and setting is fun, imo, but any other aspect of this sucks d**ks including the story. We played this for months when it released globally and we hated it eventually. We quit when we realized how cash grab-y it is and power-creeping becomes very apparent. Some stayed and still plays this, though. I tried to come back during its first anniversary but seeing how its still not optimized (it even crashed my game) I didn't bother fixing it and uninstalled quickly.

After 3 days of learning how to navigate the UI and quest on the map, I actually like this game. It has a sprinkle of everything though very rough around the edges but fun to play

As a new player that knows many day 1 players we are all having fun. At a minimum the average player has 1 to 3 months of just quest content. Add in exploration and all the daily stuff and as long as your not playing like a no lifer you are set for a very long time even as f2p.
I used to be a hardcore player in games. That is the easiest way to burnout and feel like games offer nothing or have no content. Took a bit but now things are much more enjoyable. Want to play a game for free? You can have months worth of content for 0 dollars. If I step out my front door it costs more than that.

I quit like month after sword fan chick was released. I spent plenty of money on this game to continue enjoying it. But it required money to make it fun

The left stick wouldn’t swap the selected character, I then tried the bumpers but before I know it I selected the wrong one. I wasn’t intending to play it long but this immediately cut the time I’d give it to 0.

This would be like if you got the game on pc but the mouse and arrow keys aren’t used to select. But left click is still confirm and now you’ve just made an irreversible choice because they expected you to just know that you select with the a and d keys.

I like the game, but yea the UI was a trip to figure out how to navigate, which can be a turn-off.
Also, the whiplash of the story was jarring for a while, as if a large chunk of it was taken out, made into a 10-sec montage clip and after a few missions and encounters, it goes back to before you reach that point with the girl turning into Nemesis.
Combat is good, a but weird that the “skins” don’t come with perks I don’t think, idk, not everything is unlocked, but it’s okay for a game once you have to figure out the UI and ignore the plot-jump going back and forth

@@kafka_BOOM HSR is a different type of game though. With it's turn-based combat, it's not an open world RPG like Genshin. If we're talking about gameplay, Tof is more similar to Genshin than it is to HSR. And some ppl don't like turn-based games.
People being like "the only issue is the UI" as if that's not the means through which you traverse and interact with the entire game. I've played video games all my life, I'm usually pretty capable of picking up on what buttons do what but this is a constant guessing game. None of the functions are mapped the same way twice. There are four or five different buttons you could use to navigate, good luck finding the right one. I can't get into ruins because it asks me to enter but then....none of the buttons respond? Neither the d-pad or the joystick? The game is unplayable if you can't get down the basics of moving and working with their menus and interfaces so to say it's the only flaw....well, it's a pretty glaring flaw. After a couple days, I'm still confounded by a few things. Also I got literally like nine of the same weapon in a row. I get that it's RNG but either increase your weapon pool or weight it a little differently. This isn't even me saying these things because I like Genshin more. It's all the quality of life issues that this game has and frankly, it's unpolished and unfinished. Other pet peeve is I'm playing in English but the NPC will glitch out and start speaking some other language. That doesn't happen in Genshin and if it did, it would be promptly fixed.

Well, i got it the moment it was released, and have played it pretty solidly.
I expected it to be the usual free to play dross, but i am actually enjoying it.
Ots true that the voice actors never met each other it seems, and reading from a script where names and the pronunciation of names was never standardised (Palu is pronounced Paul by some characters, and executor is pronounced both ways, despite having very different meanings.
Reviewer is clearly a fan boy for some other franchise.. most criticism is baseless..
My main bugbear is parts of ui where it's unnecessarily difficult to change a costume colour, and once set, you can't change it without costly in game currency

despite the UI situation, i have to totally dissagree with your point of view. This game had its "Dark age" on the beggining on PC but now its very very good, pretty fun and much more F2P friendly compared to others on the same family, the gameplay is fluid and funny (At least on PC) and your biggest mistake is trying to compare it with Genshin cause the games are totaly diferent on its purposes. Genshin is a casual story game with almost none online elements, ToF is an MMO, focussed on online activities, i know that there are some similarities like graphics and World exploration but its not exclusive to genshin, other games have it too. Comparing ToF and Genshin is like to compare Fallout 4 with New world, dont make any sense. Other than that i respect your opinion! and i trully recomend you to play more of the game to see for yourself all im saying. Thanks for attention! Not going to say it's impressive. But neither is Genshin and dude seems to be stuck hard on that game. At the end of the day, it's a gacha game., just like the reviewer's beloved Genshin Impact. They're all designed with two purposes in mind. Keep you playing and get you to open your wallet and keep you spending. So far the story is just your average generic dystopian JRPG. You could do better by not playing a gacha game. You could also do worse .
Tower of Fantasy on PS5 would've been amazing.... If it spent another year in the oven. Overall I wouldn't recommend anyone play Tower of Fantasy, this game is for people who already play it. It's glitchy, confusing menu controls, really touch and go story, the character creation is rendered useless with Simulacra, and graphics need polishing.

While your level goes up fast your gear will be underpowered for a while and not matching your level. The exploration progression bar is also terrible because it pops up at the worst time. On PS5 the game is horrid. The menu and UI navigation is really bad, performance is inconsistent. The story suddenly skipped a lot of chapters. I deleted it after a few hours..

Yeah, I've been playing this game for about 4-5 days now and I'm actually enjoying the drop rates for SSR characters. No lie when I say this, I've played Genshin for a few months after launch and haven't gotten a single SSR in it before I quit. The only gripe I have with this game is using the left joystick to navigate the menu and the lag on PS4, but it's nothing game breaking for me

I played for 3 months on pc and mobile, I've run out of things to do on Honkai so I'm trying PS5 version. At its heart it's a great game ruined by predatory monetisation, yes I know its a gacha, but they've pushed it too far. You get nothing for playing the game other than profile picture frames, fancy that nice outfit, that's £200. Simulacrum have big parts of their functionality locked behind dupes, so you've managed to pull Lynn, and it only cost you £100, but then find she's borderline useless until you've pulled 2 more dupes. Genshin and Honkai used dupes but the big difference is they were playable at E0. Also after 3 months on PC the servers were empty, you sometimes spent an hour waiting for enough people to turn up to challenge the bosses. The community was toxic, high level high spenders constantly complaining about lower level E0 players joining fights, all in all a mess, there's better out there

I agree a little confused why some are saying this is better then genshin, but they are different enough you can like 1 without liking the other.
Tbh the idea of different characters having different playable forms is likely inspired by hoyo's other game Honkai impact with their battlesuit system. I too like the idea more than a crapton of characters in genshin but the games story just doesnt do it for me, they feel even worse than genshin characters which are terrible themselves. I still question why I still play these games

Also hate how spoken dialogue at the start randomly switches between English and Japanese. That's just poor quality control in the beginning of the game. The early story jumps between too many things and really didn't give me much to even try getting into it. To be fair, I liked some of the early stuff in Genshin but the artifact grind got to me.

Don’t even go over story quests or all the different weapons (genshin has 5) tof has a new weapon for each charecter, you get the charecter? Bam you get thier weapon! Don’t have to roll for both! And you don’t have to play as that charecter with that weapon! Mix and match have fun!

The fact you open with praising Genshin says enough to me lol. Genshin is literally just a trophy collector at this point, at least TOF has end game content and real combat.

Both this game and Genshin sucks, for different reasons. Genshin developers don't care about updating their damn store to make you exchange starglitter for anything other than fucking 1.0 4* release characters, fucking awful weapon banners, only Abyss and they don't care about fixing that awful artifact system. Tower of Fantasy sure has endgame content, too bad it's only enjoyable for whales, since every month they powercreep the previous unit, so if you don't spend your soul every month, you'll only be carried by said whales in endgame anyways.

I am not really surprised about the review because every major reviewer who tried the game gave it a very similar rating and had similar experiences. The game isn’t for everyone tbh. I was a day one global release player, but I only played for a week then quit because it got really boring for me no matter how much I tried to like the game. I still keep my eyes on it, and the game has improved quite a bit since then, but still nothing exciting that makes me want to jump back into it again. And I think that’s the problem with the game. while it is very beautiful, new characters, story improved a bit, new maps, those alone cannot make players really hyped to jump back into it again. It need something really exciting, like you’d see in a new patch for any other online game that’ll get people talking and can’t wait to jump back into it. Games like Genshin, WoW, FF14, some FPS games, Legend of Zelda, Mario games, Fighting games, etc. They can create buzz. Why is it not like that for Tower of Fantasy?

Just played this. Feels like a pay to play iPad or mobile game. The menu system UI is a mess, like a busy mess that has limited movement function but may work better with a touch screen. The only thing i like about this game are the graphics and character models. The game needs a UI overhaul and some more unique combat styles and unlockables to make the game feel challenging and rewarding.

The controls are the worst and the character creation is terrible the limited hair styles the boring cutscenes i stopped playing gi because of how much I felt like I had to spend money just or a item or character that I may not get but gi opening was way more interesting and less generic
I played it yesterday on my base ps4, the only thing so far I think that catchs my attention is that the game ran at 60FPS on the base ps4.
the graphics are not as good nor polished as Genshin Impact, and just like the ps5 version the draw distance looks like a Nintendo Switch game.. the trees get so low res in the distance, and just like the ps5 the popup is everywhere, I mean the moment I turned on the game everything at the start screen popped up on my face while the texture are still loading, I thought this is a ps4 only thing but even the ps5 version does that, wtf?
the game on console aren't finished too probably a regional thing but most of the stuff in the game aren't available yet.
the UI is very clunky and weird, some time you enter a menu and it doesn't tell you what each button does or how to even navigate them, some cut scene will let you skip them and other don't, some of the menu are so low res as if it was up scaled from a mobile device to a big screen without any polish, and the freaking game almost ate my entire HDD free space, it started as 40GB required, it grew to 50GB during during download and after it finished it hits 68.3GB which puts me off right away.
since there are other games I was planning to play and need to free some space on the hard drive for them only for this game to ate all of that free space away.
Tower of Fantasy is basically Genshin Impact at home, even though you can play Genshin Impact in the same two platforms for free, they even tried to copy the emergency food Pimon.
I'm this close to delete TOF off of my ps4, but i'll give it one more chance by playing through it a bit.
I highly recommend people to wait until they patch everything up and complete the game on console if you wAnna play it on ps4 and ps5.
They gonna fix UI in next maintenance update and the quality argument is kinda invalid since Genshin is higher budget game with better graphics and the company is rich while ToF is low budget game by a small company and still producing a good looking game and improving it.

I still can’t get into the game, because I’m unhappy with my choice of weapons. I’d rather just be able to buy the weapon that I want, but you can’t do that because there’s a gotcha system. Yeah, the developers can’t have you getting the weapon that you want from the very start because then that doesn’t give them a chance to rip you off. The fact that some may have gotten certain weapons that you wanted is what gives them their argument, but everyone isn’t into gambling. So why can’t we just purchase the fucking weapons? I’m gonna check out Tales of Arise.

Genshin wasn't buggy at launch. It just had leggy servers in co op and that was it and money hungry? I know you aren't talking shit when ToF literally has a gacha for just about everything. Characters, gear, outfits, mounts, there's even gacha in exploration part of the game. If that wasn't enough, there's a ton of powercreep. Genshin has too many players for anyone to believe this BS.
@@galaxydust_There's no gacha in exploration, there are F2P mounts you can farm for, including underwater mounts for Innars Grand Sea map. Version 3.1 has become much more F2P friendly than 1.0 at launch.
Some TOF fans are mad in the comments, but it's true that the game is disappointing. Especially so because it had a lot of potential. But when compared to its competition, the lack of polish is blatant. The combat is good. The world looks pretty. There are good ideas in there. But sometimes it just feels like they haphazardly threw all these things in without much care. There's an awkwardness that's ever present is how I would put it I guess? And that's without talking about the port itself being just... not it - even more so on PS4.

I dont see why all hate. I been playing Tof since launch and it has come a long way. Sure its no genshin killer but I'll chose this one over Genshin any day now just because exploration and grind is not such a chore. Gacha system is way more generous then genshin as well. The only lacking is the story but tof players play this game for the combat and content, story is just a bonus.
