Robert Hall wow what a blast from the past. I was dressed in these clothes along with Lohmans and Alexander's in the 70 s. Pure polyester heaven hahahah
Rt. 22 in North Plainfield.I will never forget that yellow bricked store with the racks of clothes and the huge air conditioners at each end of the store. Still remember those jingles too!
'Robert Hall this season will show you the reason, low overhead, low overhead' that's a jingle I don't think I'll ever forget. Must have heard it 'too many times'..
I also remember: "Robert Hall this season / Will show you the reason / You save with cash; buy more with cash!" Meaning it was cheaper to pay the full price in cash instead of using credit.
And a :30 local tag pad inside the donut: "with six Louisville-area Robert Hall stores to serve you!" Heck, yes, I remember the annual Robert Hall back-to-school trips! Mom took sis to Sears, Roebuck and Dad and I went to "Bob Hall's," as he'd call them. We'd get matching suits every year...RIP, Daddy...sharp as a tack in heaven!
Sitting here minding my own business, when a Robert Hall jingle popped into my head. Starts at 1 minute, here. Haven't heard it in 60 years. Odd, that. My first suit was a Robert Hall suit.
My mom would sing this to us on the first day of school but replace "Robert Hall" with the name of whatever school we were attending. Every year. Through college. This jingle (the one in just the first minute of the vid) has been with me since Kindergarten and I still can't shake it now. Happy first day of school, everyone. Remember, now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less.
I remember sitting on coach watching TV (Dark Shadows of course) and that Robert Halls commercial came on. AHHHH! We threw all the pillows at the TV! I remember tight new 'hard shoes' that you had to wear with socks after going barefoot and flip flops all summer. Sad times for kids when summer is over. Here on E Coast, school always begins the day after Labor Day. So it was, so it goes on every year...
I remember these jingles though this isn't the earliest version. I think they were more mid-60s or early 60s. I went to a Robert Hall's once with my mother. It was very spartan in furnishings and décor so maybe they really did have low overhead.
my uncle just called me on the day before my first day of school out OF ABSOLUTE NOWHERE and started singing this. Mind you i didnt even have his number in my phone lmao.
"When the value goes up, up, up; and the prices go down, down, down..." I remember that from when I was a kid back in the early 1970s. Fond du Lac, Wisconsin had a Robert Hall store
Jamestown, NY on Foote Av. That's where my Mother took us. Then to Carnahan's: "Jamestown's Largest Store for Men & Boys". 1960's back-to-school shopping!
@@hschwimmer There was a book written by the grandchild of holocaust survivors who exclaimed how he hated black people...and how the black people destroyed the Bronx... isn't that ironic.
My dad was a regional manager for Robert Hall from the 50's to the 70's when they went out of business. Thanks for the memories!
I hope he got a pension

My Mom and Dad were both born in 1950 and my Dad still sings this jingle every once in a while. :D
1954 me too. Can't ask for better talent than Les Paul and Mary Ford. Part of my childhood.
My father sung this song every morning to wake us up for school
Robert Hall's was polyester paradise! The Brady Bunch gave them a lot of business. LOL
Takes me back and makes me smile !!!

Just remembered that my dad was buried in a Robert Hall suit.

Once upon a time Westchester Ave. between Parkchester and Castle Hill was a betta part of Da Bronx. I always enjoyed the Howard Johnson in Yonkers.

Awesome!
I remember the store at the intersection of Route 1 & 9 on the circle in Woodbridge NJ.
Never know it was Les Paul and Mary Ford doing the commercials. I love them...
Awesome ad. Didn't appreciate it years ago.
in Philly, PA too
I used to cringe when I heard this commercial because summer was over.
I couldn't understand why they didn't build their stores with higher ceilings, and get rid of their low overhead.
In 1960-'62, I also was completely puzzled by the phrase "low overhead". Why would having a low ceiling make things cheaper?
Wilkinson Boulevard (US 29/74) in Charlotte, NC. Now a parking lot for the airport.
Never head of this store, but I'm 47 & live in Pa.
Me neither. My mom said she went there back in the fifties and early sixties
I got some of my clothes from there
Never heard it before.
