    Kemet is one of those games that i probably would have liked a lot more if i'd played the original when it came out. There's some cool stuff in here, but this style of game isn't my favourite anymore. Still, cool powers and giant monsters do elevate into the "very good" category. And if i gave out silver medals for games it would get one. I definitely see why people love it and will play it again. But it's not on my list of "OMG MUST PLAY AGAIN NOW" games.

      Egypt trivia 2: Some of the pyramids took over 200 years to build, with small towns existing for the soul purpose of housing and feeding the workers.
      Egypt trivia 3: The movement of the stones was mostly done by boat. The Egyptians flooded areas to help move the large stones closer to the build from the river/sea. They were then often moved by pouring water in front of them, to help make it easier to push. Documented in Egyptian paintings!
      Sorry saw this info on a page debunking that the pyramids were aliens and needed to share! Though, if this game is anything to go by, it was done by giant snakes, scorpions and elephants, duh!

    Really love Kemet and all your reviews. The game is tight and tense with many options. My current favourite Egypt themed game is Ankh. Despite the overload of plastic it really does have that rare mix of overbloat balanced with strong strategic choices. Also really like Cyclades and the bidding mechanic.

    I play a lot of multiplayer solo, so any game where I need to play a secret combat card against myself doesn't work very well. That aside, I know another reviewer who seems to love this game. Seems like it's for miniature-happy gamers. There are aspects that look fun, but I'd be Ke-meh about it even without the first issue I mentioned.

  • @frenchy1138
    @frenchy1138 Год назад +4

    Couple of mistakes in this, I think:
    - you can't move between matching ports. There's two kinds - military ports (red) can only be moved from. Trade ports (blue) can be moved from but also to. The arrows on each show what's allowed. The move shown (from military, to military) is illegal.
    - battle victory points are only awarded for an attacker victory. Defender victories don't score victory points (everyone gets extra veteran tokens instead, which can be spent in the night phase on prayer points, new troops or DI cards)

    • @thomashughes7336
      @thomashughes7336 Год назад

      Correct if I'm wrong, but I think in the new version, defenders get victory points for winning fights too

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  Год назад +1

      Yep, looks like we got the port rule wrong. What a weird rule. As for the Victory point for battles, i guess this is more a case of ambiguity through brevity than an error as i was showing an attacker getting the point. And due to time code left out the veteran tokens entirely.

    • @frenchy1138
      @frenchy1138 Год назад +3

      @@thomashughes7336 No, they definitely don't - there's a power tile (Defensive Victory) that lets them, but not normally. Two veteran tokens (rather than one) is the bonus for a defensive victory normally, plus denying your opponent a point.

    • @frenchy1138
      @frenchy1138 Год назад +1

      @@3MBG The ports are a nice addition which weren't in the base game that allow much greater mobility once units are away from a pyramid and can't teleport any more. Landing troops directly outside a city would be too powerful, though, hence the one-way ports.
      Fair about battles - my ears just pricked up when you said "the winner gets a victory point."

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  Год назад +1

      Cheers for the port correction. And yeah, one of the tricky things with the format is what i leave out. As its almost always something. And the shorter you make an explanation the easier exceptions are to miss and ambiguity creeps in. I could have changed the line to "and if the attacker wins, they get a point"

  • @abruwer08
    @abruwer08 Год назад +1

    I've been very tempted to buy the older version second hand for half the price of the new version. That said I do own Cyclades (also 2nd hand), which has dice rolls in battles and some reason that just draws me more at the moment.

    • @3MBG

    • @JonathanAwesomeify
      @JonathanAwesomeify 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@3MBG Cyclades is awesome. My personal metric for how good a game is, is how long it takes players to learn the rules well enough they start swearing and laughing at the problems they have to solve. The auction mechanic in Cyclades kicks that off really quickly: "But I didn't WANT Athena this turn!" Inis is my personal favourite of the two, since I really like building the map as you play, and the card drafting is fun. But the combat is ... hilariously painful since you can choose to lose units OR cards.
