Pulled out my old D7000 the other day, cleaned it up, recharged the batteries, and reacquainted myself to it.. checked the website. Low and behold, there was an “L” update in 2020!!! So I had to find a video to remind me how to execute it and landed here, thanks for this info! Amazing and admirable that they continue updating these old cameras. With good lenses it still takes excellent photos 👍🏼
Glad to be of help. I never had a D7000, but a friend of mine did. He loved it. It was his primary camera until the 7100 came out. I still have my 7100 and it's still going strong. Nikon is great about firmware updates for older cameras. Check out my 2 videos on the 7100.
My top card reader stopped working and by default I use the second slot, can I do the update by inserting the SD in the second reader, or do I have to fix the first slot to do the update?
@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 I've done more research and apparently I need to fix the first slot. Thank you for such a quick reply though, keep up the great job.
Was ur memory card blank to begin with? Like I have a memory card in the camera already and it works with the camera in, so does that mean I don’t need format it?
@@moh9hus hi...I haven't updated as yet as my computer is old & I need to upgrade to a newer one ...also I am not confident in trying & I will get camera shop to do it for me..I still love using my D7100 as is so I haven't been in a hurry to download updates....I am only a hobbyist & just enjoy taking pics of whatever interests me... cheers 🦘🦘😊
Hi Jules, Thanks for the video. I have one question, if it is a firmware for a specific lens, do I have to have it install in the camera or not necessarily, when making the update ?
Hi, thanksfor sharing this tutorial its amazing, i have question for my D7000, can i transfer the update file to the SD card from usb data cable or is it a must to take the card off and put it to card reader
@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 I like it but I’m thinking I need a full size sensor camera. Problem is that I am not totally sold to move into mirrorless and if I do then I’m leaning towards Sony.
I don't think you can reverse it unless you have a copy of the previous firmware. You may need an update from Sigma. I had that happen with a Tamron lens a few years ago. Thanks for watching my video.
Hello. I hope you can help me. I have a D7200 I bought while in Japan. So therefore it has a Japanese serial number. I need to do an update but an scared that using this update version from a non-US camera will brick my camera. Is there a special Japanese update version for my camera? Thanks. I really enjoyed your step by step video. Well done.
For Windows users , you have to download the file to your computer, then double click (Or right click and select Open) . The file you need should be a .Bin file in order for the camera to read it. Be careful with the "L" Lens file, you need to "Remove the camera lens", before updating the "L" file. (that's what Nikon's instructions say).
Caution! I recently downloaded firmware for the Zfc from Nikon. When I hit the upload, the camera shut itself down and would not restart. Nikon support told me it would have to be sent to a service center. I mailed it, at my expense. After a week, I got an estimate for repair. Almost $ 300.00. This camera was just over one year old, purchased directly from Nikon and had less than 1,000 actuations. The camera worked perfectly until I tried to upload the firmware. Note - I own over two dozen Nikon cameras including four Z series and I am very familiar with the update procedure. Has anyone else had this problem? Got the camera back. They had to replace the Main PCB. Less than 1,000 clicks and worked perfectly until I tried to update.

Nikon says to use slot 1 on the camera for the update. I would call Nikon customer service and ask them.

It’s not for a specific lens.
@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 I know, but I have seen, they also have updates for lenses. That's what my question is about.
@@juanvenegas278 You are correct, but this one is not for lenses. There was just a lens update for some Z mount lenses.

Go the card reader route.
My camera firmware says 1.01 … is it possible to follow this and jump to the 1.04 update?
Yes. 1.04 will give you all the updates from 1.02 to 1.04.

That’s a very good question. I think it would be okay to update from Nikon USA, but I’m not positive. Check with Nikon. Thanks for watching my video.
